OK wines, terrible service.

The wines are ok. They are not amazing and you can definitely buy wines of similar or better quality for less money from many other places. The booklet you get each month feels expensive to make but wasn't of interest to me and the snacks were not to my taste.
I'd have been happier for the money spent on the booklet to be reinvested in product cost savings and / or for options on the snacks to be offered.
Cancelling my subscription was a nightmare. You have to go through multiple pages on their website only to be told that you have to phone up to cancel. I had to wait almost 10 minutes for the call to be answered (while listening to some terrible music). I really wanted to hang up but needed to cancel my subscription.

I then got no apology for the wait and was subjected to more delaying / persuasion tactics to remain. Given this bad experience I would not consider returning.

Additionally, having read their response to my review I would add that

An apology goes a long way. Really disappointing that this response doesn't include one.
Improve your website to make it clear that you dont have to call to cancel. No point in sharing this information after the event.
Information about wines is not a USP. I regularly buy from Majestic and their knowledge and service are excellent. I also research supermarket wines before purchasing.
Value for money is key. I happily spend more for better wines. I dont believe that you offer value for money.
Just because something is from a small producer doesn't make it worth paying more for.
Stop spending time and energy on lengthy responses to bad reviews, particularly where they don't address the issues or acknowledge the points made.

Hi Angela. We appreciate your feedback. Here at Wine52, we are a discovery club for those wishing to experience wines they may not always have tried or be able to find themselves. Our prices reflect that we support our smaller breweries, vineyards and distilleries, rather than larger productions. Our suppliers often have larger overheads when producing smaller batches of their beers, wines, whiskies or coffee. Our products are of the highest quality and we offer many products that aren't available elsewhere, we produce a monthly magazine that customers enjoy reading, Our magazines for our products are included in every box and give our customers a wealth of knowledge on how we source our products, how our producers make their products as well as wonderful stories about the region they are produced in the stories behind their breweries, vineyards and distilleries. Which we find is what our customers enjoy each month as part of their interest in trying out new wines, rather than those you can pick up from your local supermarket and without any background to the wine's origins.

Our boxes not only include our beers, wines, whiskies, and coffee, but we also offer a quick postal service, snacks with our beers and wines and our product magazine in every box, as well as amazing offers to use and share with family & friends. Our subscriptions are where our customers can choose to enjoy new and wonderful products every month, bi-monthly, or tri-monthly, and of course, can cancel at any time should they wish to. We are sorry our prices may not be within budget for everyone all of the time, but we, of course,e try our best to balance our cost and supply prices as best we can.

When customers do contact us we do occasionally have deals to offer and so, where possible we mention these offers if a customer is thinking of leaving us, requesting to change an element of their subscription or simply asking to pause their account for personal circumstances. We also ask a few questions from the customer so that we see any areas for improvement. Our agents are trained to recognise the very best way to support our customers, whether that be to tweak a subscription payment date, upgrade or downgrade a plan or if a customer is simply asking to pause for a while - we just simply want our customers to enjoy our product and experience a service and plan that works for them.

AWFUL COMPANY POLICIES AND CUSTOMER SERVICE

I ordered a ONE TIME PURCHASE and the terms and conditions were conveniently hidden on the phone format when I ordered so It wasn't clear that I would also be signing up for a subscription. I was a brand new customer (so not the greatest first impression) and the fact that I called as soon as they opened the day the money was taken from my account and I was denied a refund after stating I didn't want the order was abysmal service. I was rudely told by the woman on the phone that it was 'too little too late' and maybe I should have read it better. I was sent no email stating I had signed up to a subscription and further more no email notifying me that I was getting another order until my bank notified me that almost £40 had come out of my account at 2am.

Also, the fact that in order to cancel your subscription you need to call as there is no option to cancel online is ridiculous especially when it takes them about 15 minutes to even answer the phone.

This has immediately put me off ever ordering again, the only good thing I have to say is that whoever I spoke to today (08/04) was so incredibly understanding and helpful, he was great. I didn't get his name but he was so lovely!

As part of your becoming a member of this exclusive club, the information detailing the subscription element was provided to you at each stage during sign-up. We also sent you our "Welcome to the Club" email immediately after completing your purchase. This email was sent to your registered email address and detailed your next billing date and cost. Additionally, your billing information and renewal date are always accessible at any time through the ‘Manage My Subscription’ section of your online account.

You must cancel your subscription before your billing date. You can contact us by phone on 0131 285 2684, via Facebook Messenger or via our helpdesk https://www.beer52.com/helpCentre/home. If this was not done then at that stage we cannot offer a refund as the order has already been processed to our warehouse.

Great offering

Received a lovely trial box of 3 bottles of wine and snacks which came well packaged and had a great booklet. I cancelled the subscription because it was a bit expensive for me regularly, but will absolutely order one off orders on their online shop as I love that they support independent wineries. Great customer service when calling to cancel the subscription (thanks Lewis).

Overpriced

Overpriced, mediocre wine. You can get better quality in supermarkets. They make in so difficult to cancel the subscription. With no option to return if you don't want the wine. Would never recommend signing up - not worth your time

The nature of our wines is that from time to time you may receive some that are not ones you might usually drink, and while our wine experts always try their best to choose what they think our customers will enjoy, they can't always meet everyone's specific tastes. I can assure you that our wines are selected for their high quality. We work with and support our smaller vineyards, rather than larger productions. Our products are of the highest quality, and we offer many products that aren't always available elsewhere.

Overall good service and nice…

Overall good service and nice selection. I signed up for an introductory offer and loved having the first one and cancelled afterwards. I would have loved to continue if I wasn't an occasional consumer of wine.
