Stay well clear!

Stay well clear!

Ordered a bike and luckily it did actually turn up, but by the we got it set up it was a few months later - we had to take it for a service at a local bike shop who said the wheels were buckled and that's why the breaks were rubbing, on our first ride we found it almost impossible to change gears and it would get stuck between gears. I emailed discountbicyles straight away with a very friendly email asking for help and received the poorest response ever, no 'hello' or 'dear' - email just read: 'over 3 months later is too late to say that you have only just built it and unhappy with your purchase' and then my name. Seriously rude and condescending, yet the website doesn't advise that it's too late!! Save your money - you buy cheap,you buy twice and get a load of rudeness along the way!!

Fraudulent Sale

Ordered mudguards on 15th December, listed as dispatched the same day on an email, but never received.

Attempted to contact the company by email three times, by the form on their website, and by two telephone numbers on their website, which are both disconnected.

It appears from other reviews on this website that this is a bankrupt company which is now trading fraudulently.

A claim has been made to my bank as goods not received and the sale reported to Action Fraud.

Avoid.

don’t buy from here

don’t buy from here. Ordered a bike for my sons Christmas, disaster getting it delivered, then said the bike was out of stock and he wouldn’t get it for Christmas, promised me a free upgrade then sent me a pay pal request. Henry the sales guy = moron.

It's a scam!!!

Ordered a bike for a month ago, no bike has arrived but my credit card has been charged. It's almost impossible to get in touch with the company.

No Bike, No Refund.

I ordered a bike online and a few days later received an order conformation, dispatch note and receipt.
Suffice to say, after a number of weeks the bike had not arrived but the money had been taken from my account.
I called them many many times and somehow managed to eventually get through, they said the bike was out of stock.
This was of course a surprise after giving me a false delivery date for the ordered bike...
Eventually they agreed to a refund but after nearly 6 weeks I still have not received the money back.
I contacted the fraud department of my bank and they are now investigating this company.
Please avoid Discount Bicycles at all costs. They appear to be rogue traders ripping people off.

Liquidated Company and Dodgy Director

Ordered BMX for sons birthday on 2nd April and immediately got a dispatch notice saying it would be delivered on 10th April between 9am and 5pm. There was no tracking number or shipping company attached.
The bike did not arrive on 10th so tried to get a contact number from the website, which had been removed. Used the email address on the website to contact them and got a failure notice with the words "I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out." which set alarm bells ringing.
Eventually found the number on google street view and the phone number had been cut off.
I did a bit of research into the company to find out that the company had been liquidated on 22nd February 2017 and was in the hands of a liquidator. This is available on Company's House website.
Spoke to the liquidator who indicated that Discount Bicycles Limited had been liquidated and they would contact the Director to find out what is going on.
Received an email from the director that night saying sorry for the delay but the bike has now been dispatched and would arrive within 4 days, not surprisingly without any tracking details or company details.
Spoke to liquidator again to find out if he could continue to use the website to take orders when the company had been liquidated. The liquidator confirmed that he should not be using the website as this was in contravention of Section 216 of the Insolvency Act 1986. He is not allowed to use the same company name or similar company name following liquidation.
I was then informed that his new company would be taking over the website, but the company registration at the bottom of the website is still for the liquidated (Discount Bicycles Limited).

I then managed to speak directly with the director to ask when my bike would be delivered.
He claimed it would be delivered on 18th April and would be delivered by Tuffnels. On asking him for a tracking number he said that another company had picked up the parcel to take to Tuffnels for delivery and they did not give out tracking numbers. Asked for Tuffnels contact details so I could confirm that they had a parcel for me, this is when the stuttering started. He had been caught out and tried to talk his way out of it asking if I could just wait until 18th and if it did not arrive, then phone back.
That is when I started to tell him I did not believe him.
I then told him the company had been liquidated and he should not be using the Discount Bicycles UK website as it was in contravention of Section 216 of the Insolvency Act 1986. He tried to say the website was a different company to Discount Bicycles Limited even though the company registration number found on the website was for the liquidated company.
Pointed out to him that the money had been taken from my account using another company. This should not be happening.
Eventually he realised that I had done my research into the company and himself and offered a refund straight away, received receipt from world pay and awaiting money returning to my account.
My question is why would he offer a refund if the bike had been sent?
Moral of the story, do not use Discount Bicycles UK and do not believe anything the director says.

Quick update; money still has not arrived into my account after 3 weeks. Have reported director to action fraud and will recover money through bank.

Ordered on Sunday. Arrived Wednesday.

Ordered on Sunday. Bicycle arrived on Wednesday. After reading reviews on here after I had ordered (I know) I was expecting a long wait. Pleasantly surprised. Although the eBay account with the same name has only 10 negative feedback out of nearly 5 thousand customers

Scam.

Even if these people do genuinely have a real shop, it's clear their online operation is a scam. They issued me a 'dispatch notice' right as soon as I ordered some tyres, but three weeks later with nothing arriving and no means of contacting them, I had to reclaim my money through Visa. Thank goodness these guys are such profligate scammers visa didn't put up a fight.

They don't answer emails or the phone (and according to others here are rude even if they do). By the third time I called the phone had been disconnected. With scammers like this around, why even bother going anywhere except eBay, Amazon, or a known shop chain, where you can be sure there are real people and a real service behind the website.

SCAM

Same as the previous reviews, ordered a bike, hasn't arrived. Tried to contact them, nothing. Will be getting my money back through the bank. I am also thinking of suing them privately and seeking compensation.
My plan is to make sure they won't rip anyone else off. If I have to I will pay them a visit also.

It has taken me 2 months to get my money back through Visa and it was loads of hassle.
Still out of pocket.
Don't go anywhere near them

Do not buy from discountbicycles

Despite numerous contacts by email and phone and unfulfilled promises they took the money but never delivered the bike. They do not have the stock, they keep fobbing you off with false promises of deliveries and excuses. Luckly my bank got the money back via VISA. Do not bother with this firm, just shop elsewhere in the first place. Wish I had seen other trustpilot reviews before I used them. Save yourself the hassle. Leave them well alone.

Same old story

Ordered 2 bikes for my boys, then heard nothing for a 10 days, then received an email confirming dispatch. Tried to track the parcel but the courier company quoted returned zero hits when I searched Google. Alarm bells rang, and I waited a further week after confirming with my bank that they could reclaim money. Nothing from these shysters.

If you order from this shop after reading these reviews then you are a muppet.

Total shambles

I ordered 2 bikes on the 1st December for my boys Christmas presents. I was told that delivery would be on the 12th of December. On the 12th I received an email telling me that due to lots of deliveries my order had been delayed 72 hours but would definitely be delivered on the 15th (yesterday). Yesterday morning I called the courier (Tuffnells) to see if they had an estimated time but they had nothing out for delivery to my address. I then called Discounted Bikes to be told that one of the bikes I'd ordered had gone "missing" but that the other would definitely arrive today. After asking them to check that was definitely the case I was told that they couldn't do that and then they hung up. I called back and asked for a refund on both bikes but was told that they could only refund one as the other had been dispatched. After a bit of a heated conversation I was told I was being malicious and hung up on again. I called back at 3pm to tell them that the bike hadn't arrived and was then told it till be tomorrow instead. I have just called the courier and once again they have nothing being delivered to me today. Honestly don't know what to do!!! Luckily I have been able to get the money to buy to more bikes but this company is a joke and shouldn't be allowed to trade. Anyone have any advice on where to go next to get my money back???

Possible bait and switch?

I ordered a bike and received a dispatch note, but when I tried to contact the courier to check the delivery time (this on the day delivery was due) I could find no details online.

Called the shop and it seemed there was a mix-up, not only was the bike not shipped, it was not in stock. I could have a model in a different colour and size, but they didn't mention that these were last year's (and possibly the year before's) models.

Buy in person or don't buy at all...

Rude staff, poor communication, repair delayed

They promised my bike would be ready on Monday. No communication until I called them on Tuesday. It then took them two more days to fix my bike. When I raised the issue that I needed my bike on Monday, the guy lost his temper and started shouting at me and asked me to never return. Avoid at all cost.

Appalling service - Courier didn't show up, bike now out of stock!!

I was promised delivery on Dec 2nd. Having waited in all day, I phoned DB for an explanation. I was told by the shop staff that the online team are disorganised and 'not very good'. I was then promised that someone would return my call - of course that never happened. After chasing them again today, I was told there was now a problem with the order (due to a cock up with payment, system errors and lack of communication in the despatch team) and the bike is now out of stock. Terrible service. AVOID!!!

Bike did not arrive - expect to be lied to

Do not order a bike from this company. I ordered a bike on 29 October. I was told by return that I would get a despatch e-mail within 7 days and bikes usually get delivered within 4 days. After 7 days I called to find out why I hadn't heard anything. The bike is a birthday present for my son.

I was given some cock and bull story about their e-mail server not working properly and I would get a despatch e-mail in an hour. This did not arrive. I called the next morning and e-mailed that afternoon when I didn't get the e-mail, no response to e-mail.

I was then told they could send me a despatch e-mail whilst I was on the phone. They couldn't do that the day before because they claimed not to have access to that system.

The despatch email told me the bike would be sent on 15 November (a week ahead) and 16 days after the order was placed and they received my money.

I asked to cancel my order there and then. They said I had to take delivery and could only cancel it by returning the bike (and of course paying the courier for the return). They said if I refused delivery they would deduct a higher charge from my refund and this could be as much as the cost of the bike.

At no time did they offer any explanation as to why it had taken this long to send me the bike, or offer any apology.

Please don't make the same mistake as me. Buy elsewhere. I suspect I won't receive the bike next Tuesday based on the feedback I've read on here. Wish I had read this first.

Update
So bike didn't arrive on day promised, waited in all day. Emailed Henry to check why. No reply. Chargeback now processed by credit card company. But I ordered bike on 29 Oct and this took until 17 Nov, so have had to deal with my child's disappointment every day since then that his new bike hasn't arrived yet.

Ordered another bike today from another company. Similar cost. Same day delivery guaranteed in terms and conditions. No adverse reviews anywhere. So DISCOUNTBICYCLES are not offering a good deal worth waiting for. And if you read their small print you will see that they say they have 28 days to deliver rather than the usual 4 days that they mention you can expect to receive the bike in.

Bicycle not delivered.

I ordered a bike a few weeks ago, after hearing nothing for a week I called them and was told my payment had not been processed. This should have set off alarm bells but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and re-ordered the bike. I had to call them multiple times to get a confirmation email and delivery date. When the bike didn't turn up the first time I was told that the courier was 'running a couple of days late' and would be with me by the end of the week. I called them again when it didn't show up and was given a definite delivery date, with a confirmation email, of the next Tuesday. After waiting in all day and it still not showing up I called for a refund, the response was that I wouldn't get a full refund as I would be charged a 'warehouse fee' of £50-60! I told him that this was unacceptable and contacted my bank, I paid by card so am using the visa chargeback scheme to get my money back. I wish I had read the other trustpilot reviews beforehand, would not have gone near the company. Please be careful before ordering anything from this company, my experience has been VERY similar to a lot of others who have written reviews on this site.

**Update**
My bank re-imbursed my money through the chargeback scheme the day after I reported this.

Always going to deliver "Next Tuesday"

My seven year old's birthday was 3 weeks ago and her present still hasn't arrived even though we ordered in plenty of time. Every time I speak to Henry in the office his response is the same.

"It will be with you next Tuesday"

Has sent me a courier note which clearly he has knocked up in the office as it has no reference who the couriers are. When I said I wanted to cancel the order he told me I would incur a £50 admin fee.

This has got scam written all over it. Wish I checked these other reviews on here before I ordered. BE WARNED!
