The most unorganised business I have…
The most unorganised business I have ever known.
Our group of comedians sourced our practice venue and equipment. Our admin/leader seemed heartless. No encouragement along the way, just cold texts telling us we haven't sold enough tickets. This is a terrible business model, which will not last long. Why would we strive to sell tickets knowing that not selling enough tickets could mean our loved ones could not get to see us and would not get a refund. One online meeting was all we had to meet Ultra 'organisers' they left all the hard graft to the comedian leader and the group. Im not sure any of the Ultra people even bothered to show up at the final event. If they were there they were hiding as they did not introduce themselves to anyone. This was a case of neglectful and unethical practice and one for the Ombudsman.
Absolute Rip off
Ultra Comedy -Birmingham.
I believe this entire event is a rip-off. I attended to support a friend and paid £27 for my ticket. My friend was required to sell ten non-refundable tickets at £27 each in order to be allowed to perform. If she had sold fewer than ten, she would not have been permitted to go on stage — meaning those who bought tickets specifically to support her would have paid for a show she was not even in, with no option for a refund. Fortunately, she managed to sell the full quota.
The event was marketed as raising money for charity. We were under the impression that a portion of the ticket sales would go to the performer’s chosen charity. This turned out not to be the case at all. Performers are expected to set up their own GoFundMe pages, and only the money raised through that route goes to charity. There was a clear lack of transparency on the company’s part.
Several of us paid the extortionate price simply to support our friend. For context, I have paid less to see professional comedians like Jimmy Carr perform for two hours. Here, I paid £27 to see five minutes of amateur stand-up.
The venue itself was disappointing. No food was available, which was frustrating enough — but what truly angered me was having my snacks and drink confiscated at the door. As someone with diabetes, this was completely unacceptable and posed a genuine health risk.
The stage setup was also poorly thought out. Lighting was inadequate — when comedians moved to certain parts of the stage, they were barely visible. The microphone was fixed too high and many performers were not tall enough to reach it. Due to the rushed schedule, they were not given time to adjust it, and those who did not remove it from the stand visibly struggled.
As for the compère — what can I say, except: was he deaf? He yelled down the microphone throughout the event. It was unpleasant and entirely unnecessary — does he not understand what a microphone is for?
I will not be attending another of these events and strongly advise anyone considering working with this company to think again. If you want to try stand-up, go to a local open mic night instead — you will get a much better experience, for free.
A bit of a nasty tase
I signed up for this and was a bit sceptical. You have to sell 10 tickets at £25 each. If you only sell a few you wise kicked off the course and your friends will not be given a refund. Luckily I managed to get on and do a set. The training was undertaken by John Scott who was fantastic and was hired by Ultra. From over 50 people signing up from the start we were reduced to 20. On the night and throughout the course, and at the event, we had absolutely no face to face contact with any of the organisers. Ticket holders were sent information that there would be two events and they would be told which one they would be attending to see their friend. However, when they decided to change to one event, no one was informed so they turned up late and missed their friend performing. I was one of the lucky ones in that I had sold enough tickets. I did have an amazing experience and got some fantastic feedback. However we
did our sets on the understanding from ultra that we would be recorded. That was totally cocked up because ultra just sent a GoPro and expected the venue to set it up and there was no SD card in it. All attempts at contacting Ultra have been met with total silence. Be warned.
avoid
Bit of a shitty thing if they cancel the person you paid to see and they don’t allow a refund.
Avoid.
Got some useless tickets and wasted my money.
Let’s shut them down.
Scammers dressed as a charity event.
It's a real shame, but I had a gut feeling from the start that this was a scam.
I think a lot of us doing the course got booted out for not selling enough tickets by week 4. Have to sell 10x tickets for £25 each!! No refund on the ones sold.
I think a lot of people may be realising that the comedians, the art and the charity's are playing second fiddle to ultra getting the money off us.
£250 per person minimum is a big ask for 10 of my friend/family. Plus the charity donation.
It seems the comedy training isn't free as advertised in fact it's £250.
On top of this there has been no face to face contact from any representative from ultra on any of our sessions!!
The only contact I have had is texts demands for money, not offering support, help or advice on how to sell tickets.
And how come ultra doesn't sell tickets on our behalf?
Because of course it's all for charity. Yeah right. Ultra is about the owner making money. Which is absolutely fine we all need to make money but don’t disguise it as a charity thing, let’s hope Jon Leonard can afford another Porsche for his collection (check out his insta page)
It's such a shame because the course has a lot of potential, great crowd of people and the comic tutors were great, if not throw in the deep end a bit.
But we haven't had any support along the way for Jon Leonard or any of his employees at ultra.
Just a hand out for the £250. Shame. This could certainly be something to cross off your bucket list, but it’s not gona be the 1st step into comedy as a career. Better off with a few open mic nights.
Feels like a scam – poorly organised, profit-driven, and deeply disappointing
I signed up to Ultra Events’ comedy fundraiser to raise money for a cause I genuinely care about. But the experience turned out to be chaotic, misleading, and frankly, exploitative.
The training was a complete shambles. Around 45 people turned up to the first session, which was clearly oversubscribed. An entire hour was wasted just doing the roll call, and the only actual training we received was how to move a microphone stand. That’s it. Nothing about writing material, performance, or delivery.
The trainer – a local comedian with no affiliation to Ultra Events – did what he could, but was visibly shocked at how badly set up the session was. He had no support, no resources, and was thrown into an impossible situation.
No Ultra Events staff were present. Zero communication, zero support. Just a faceless company hiding behind the language of charity.
We were then told we had to hit a strict ticket quota or be removed from the show, and that anyone who’d bought tickets to support us wouldn’t get their money back. That’s not fundraising – that’s pressure selling.
On top of that, Ultra Events had no involvement in the actual fundraising. We had to set up and run our own JustGiving pages. They don’t handle any donations – they profit solely from ticket sales.
It reminded me of an illegitimate money-making scheme dressed up to look like charity. It’s not a non-profit. It’s not a genuine charity initiative. It’s a scammy business model that exploits goodwill and volunteers.
I’ve pulled out, and I strongly urge others to stay away.
Overzealous & Predatory Cash Grab Disguised as Charity Fundraising - AVOID
I saw an ad for Ultra Comedy and was intrigued so signed up. There were a few things from the very beginning that made me a bit wary. Immediately after signing up, I received two emails and a text message pressuring me to get set up with a just giving page and start raising money - all before attending the first lesson to see if I was even going to like it in the first place. Already I was beginning to suspect that these people cared more about the money than the experience of those doing the fundraising.
Another day passed and I received a text telling me to respond if I was able to attend the registration. I did respond, but I also made it clear that I wasn't committing to anything until I determine if I was going to enjoy it. No response. After getting peppered with comms over 2 days, I have now been met with silence.
I did some more digging, found these positive review stuffing and a lot of negative reviews confirming my suspicions. I found the original ad and some comments were there confirming that it's just a big cash-grab scheme disguised as charity fundraising. I'm glad I trusted my gut before going any further than I did. It also explains why I got no reply, clearly I wasn't like their usual "easy marks" and I was just going to make their jobs too difficult
BUYER BEWARE!!!
BUYER BEWARE!!!
The event I'd booked was rescheduled, but there was terrible comms around this, but then I was unable to attend the new date, but I can't get a refund, just a barrage of excuses but no money back! Said they'd made policy clear at purchase; they hadn't!
Very aggressive customer service (if you could call it that)!
Really poorly organised events and awful after service. Not a reputable company, not even registered with STAR as ticket sellers should be!!
So be warned, if you buy from this company, you may well end up out of pocket with no event to go to!!!
Went to a boxing event in Newark
Went to a boxing event in Newark. £500 for a vip table, which was beyond ridiculous two picnic tables put together and rusty chairs that one of them couldn’t even be used.
They kept the room hot so people would just buy drink after drink. VIP table had table service but you had to pay a service fee with each order considering it was £500 plus admin fee of £30 on top and then to pay service charge: the drinks were vile.
Spectators fighting between themselves and well the security couldn’t manage a nursery playgroup it really was poor and all they wanted was more money. White collar and dress codes well, I would like to know who was monitoring that because let’s say it was more like a scene from a Benidorm night out.
We had a family member boxing and that was good as the training and the premise of the event was good. Overall really poor over expensive evening and could have had so much more effort put in.
Modern day smart scam
ULTRA MMA Manchester, Do not be fooled; they disguise being about charity, but all they really care about is cash for themselves. It's why they remove people from events if they don't sell as many tickets as they would like.
Got removed, even though the event still 3 weeks ahead after been attended training for long distance. Very toxic the way they runs it, especially the MMA coach who's values money rather than people to teach or share experience to.
Especially for a dumb price as well, plus they expect people taking part to do the ticket selling, which is ludicrous.
I was about to sell 14 tickets, but got removed because the organisers are rushy and rational.
They have been painted as "Charity" but in fact, they are just modern day scammers.
Absolutely Loved the Experience
Absolutely Loved the Experience. Would Highly Recommend. To anyone else who is thinking about it, Do it.
Great event
Great event, had a brill time with family and friends. Easy steps to buy tickets.
fake reviews
People don’t believe or trust these new positive reviews. They are from the organiser himself, along with his friends and colleagues. The positive reviews are not genuine.

Ultra the best
Fantastic events and very well organised the medical procedures in place is far better than any boxing event I have ever attended.
Overall, very happy!
I found the site really user friendly, and the service fantastic! The event itself was amazing and really well organised.
Easy to use
Have bought tickets for a few different events through Ultra tickets and Was super easy to do. Found it really easy to follow the options and enjoyed the events that followed. 10/10
Easy, quick and no issues!
Been to a few of these events over the years and used Ultratickets for my mates last event and will use again for next one, easy to use site and no issues with bookings.
Team Were Really Helpful
Went to a boxing show and a Funky Bingo event recently. Easy to use and when I had to change my ticket order the team were really helpful
I have been to a few of these events to…
I have been to a few of these events to support friends as well as events ran by other organisers and I’ve got to say ultra events are amazing. They are always well organised and a great night out and worth the price of the ticket, especially when you compare them to other boxing shows about. I have always really enjoyed my night at the event and would go again
