Drivers start meters before they arrive

Drivers consistently start their meters before they arrive at the destination. And then get angry when you call them out on it.
I would assume it’s very easy to fix / prevent this in the app.

EDIT: My intention is not to get that individual driver into trouble. I flagged to the driver that he had started the meter before he arrived when I got into the taxi and he reset it. The issue is with the App which allows drivers to do this - in happens in about 1 in 4 drives as drivers are all aware that they can do it - this needs to be fixed as it is an ongoing issue and flaw in the App

In no particular order

In no particular order, the response time, especially at around 0800 hours, although this more the exception rather than the rule. Local drivers not that familiar with the most appropriate routes into town, more noticeable on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Normally, manners and courtesy of the drivers are well appreciated.

easy to use app, cab arrived quickly

I usually just hail cabs but wanted to get to the station from home early one day- app is great, cab arrived very quickly. shall be using regularly.

Super Service

Used the app for the first time yesterday and a great experience, press send and the full details of the cab registration, drivers name and photo appear. Hey presto 60 seconds later and an extremely courteous and efficient driver appeared.

Reliable, good service

Good, trustworthy. I like that these are normal black cab drivers that don’t use their phones to navigate. I don’t think drivers should be glancing over at a map - the focus should be on the road! I like that they use electric vehicles!

It’s always been quick for me to get a driver - much more reliable than competitors.

Often slow to arrive or cancel order

Good app but drivers slow to arrive most of the time. Their cancellations make them frustrating to use but sticking with them for now as the London cabbies know London well and don’t need to use satnav apps.

Tips on admin fees on top of fare

Price showed £26; booked taxi; fee came through for £34. Took taxi ride and spoke to driver. Final price on meter £26.03. Invoice arrives with £1.99 admin fee plus outrageously the 5% tip for the driver added to the admin fee. Have been advised to use Jump instead which is great with none of these hidden costs

According to our records, the actual metered fare for the journey was £27.40. With the 5% tip of £1.37, the subtotal came to £28.77. After adding the £1.99 booking fee, the final total charged to your payment method was £30.76. I want to reassure you that no tip is ever charged on the booking fee itself.

Regarding the £34.00 you mentioned, I can confirm that no charge for that amount has been made to your payment method. As mentioned, the total for the ride was £30.76.

Regarding the meter fare of £26.03 you mention, it is worth noting that Black Taxi meters in London (regulated by TFL) begin at £4.20 and increase in multiples of £0.20, so a final reading of £26.03 would not be possible on a standard meter. You can view your full itemised receipt within the app at any time for your records.

We aim for complete transparency, which is why we show a fare estimate, in this case, £26–£31, prior to booking. This gives our users the information they need to decide whether to proceed or consider alternatives before pressing "Order Now."

I hope this helps clarify the charges for your trip. I do thank you for raising this feedback. I will be sure to pass it on to our product team, which is always looking for ways to improve visibility and transparency within our app.

Actual fare charged was over 3x the…

Actual fare charged was over 3x the initial estimate in the app. The holding charge evidenced this, but when I flagged it with them they said it is just an authorisation. It is, but obviously it’s authorising the amount they expect to charge… I got nowhere but will never use this app again. Really dishonest practices.

Thank you for getting back to me with those ride details. I’ve had a look at the journey in our system using historical data to understand exactly what happened.

The fare estimate generated for this trip using the actual ride data (Sunday afternoon) was £26–£38. You mentioned the pre-authorisation amount was £18.84, this is because our system applied the £10.00 coupon available in your account and automatically reduced the hold in anticipation of that discount. Therefore the actual hold amount was at the lower end of the fare estimate which would have been presented at the time of booking ~£29.00

As Black Taxi fares are governed by a meter regulated by the local authority, the final total is based on a combination of distance and time. While a typical trip at that time of day takes about 28–32 minutes, this journey took 39 minutes. This suggests that traffic was significantly heavier than usual in the area at that time. Our estimates are based on historical data and, unfortunately, cannot predict future road conditions.

I’ve double-checked the distance and journey time, and since everything aligns with how the meter operates, I’m afraid I can’t see a discrepancy in the fare. I am sorry if this isn't the result you expected, but I hope this helps clarify how the final total was calculated.
