They do not care about customers or reply to emails

I bought a small greenhouse from Buttercup Farm. It came on time and I thought everything was good. Within a couple of months, the glass randomly shattered into pieces all over the floor with 0 contact at all. I reached out to the company, assuming this would be covered under warranty, only to find out it isn't and they are not going to help at all because I "didn't purchase accidental cover". I then replied explaining how it was a design issue, only to be ignored several times, tried to call, only to be told the only way to get hold of anyone is via email. How can you have a customer service that tell you to email and then ignore all of your emails, it makes no sense at all. So I followed up via emails for months, then got the same we cant help you response. Then I sent them video proof of it being a design fault, where the glass door is continuously banging very hard against the frame without anyone touching it , only to get no reply again. Very bad customer service and I would not recommend this company to anyone. I am now left with a greenhouse that doesn't even serve its purpose.

Many thanks for the email and the video.

The video shows a single sheet of glass in the channel. The channel is designed for two sheets of glass, so there would be more space in the channel if there were only one and hence more movement.

The channel is 11mm wide, so with two 4mm sheets of glass and the thickness of the handle (9mm total) there is then a couple of mm free movement. This is needed to allow free sliding of the glass.

We have been using this basic glass mounting design since 1958, and the units are used extensively in windy environments such as Scotland. In fact, the original designer of the units lived on the west coast of Scotland, so was very conscious of the effects of the wind when he designed the products.

Many thanks for the email and the photos. I have taken a look and that greenhouse was shipped to the customer in July 2024.

The good news is that the sheet of glass shattered exactly as we would expect, shattering into tiny pieces for safety. The glass sheets are toughened to European standard EN12150 which is the standard that covers the use of glass in buildings.

It does sound rather strange that a sheet of glass should shatter on its own, however the way toughened glass is made does mean that sometimes damage can build up over time with then a small event tipping the sheet over to shattering.

Once the glass has shattered, it is very difficult to try and work out what has caused the breakage. To explain the reasons as to why the glass shattered, I thought it best to explain a little bit about the glass toughening process:

Toughened safety glass is widely used in the glazing industry for two reasons – it preserves all of the advantages of glass while addressing the safety issues of untreated glass, which can break into large, dangerous shards. The toughening process works by heating the cut sheet of glass back up to its almost molten state, then quenching the glass very rapidly in cold air, making the glass up to 7 times stronger. This creates a permanently stressed inner core of glass, surrounded by a thin ‘envelope’ of un-toughened glass. This outer ‘envelope’ acts a little bit like a balloon – any piercing of this outer layer causes the release of the tension held inside, causing the glass to shatter into thousands of small fragments.

This thin outer edge can be pierced in a number of different ways, but most frequently it is either by a corner of the glass being twisted or bent (most typically in our greenhouses this occurs when a sheet of glass is removed and the trailing edge of the glass is caught in the channel); or the edges of the glass have been damaged. Sometime this damage occurs all at once, eg. it is put down heavily onto a patio, or it can occur over time with small amounts of damage being sustained to the edge of the glass. Eventually there comes a tipping point at which the damage to the edge causes the glass to shatter.

This tipping point is what causes issues with toughened glass as, rather like the straw which breaks the camel’s back, sometimes the thing that takes the glass over the tipping point and causes the glass to shatter is quite small. The cracks propagate through the glass at the speed of sound - this leads to the feeling that the glass has somehow spontaneously combusted!

Please be reassured that glass breakages are quite unusual – however for further reassurance, we do offer accidental glass breakage cover – I have attached the leaflet on this that is sent out with every order.

We had a great price for the shed…

We had a great price for the shed ,after researching many sheds we chose Buttercup farm for the quality of the product ,after un packing it all looks as it should ,Haven"t put it up yet so will review again after erecting the shed many thanks.

The service was incredible. Nothing was a problem and questions were answered in super quick time. James was amazing with customer service. I will definitely use the company again.

Well made and stylish wellie box

The wellie box I ordered arrived within 10 days and was of good quality wood, pleasing to the eye and made well. A sturdy, stylish box with waterproof lid and hopefully will last and last! Perfect for storing my wellies, hats, gloves etc. and looks great in my rustic kitchen (although I could store it outside if I needed to). Useful for storing dog / pet food or anything else too!

Delivered when others failed too

I had ordered the Charles Taylor rocker bench from 2 other companies who after 3 weeks just cancelled the order without any information. I did an online chats with Buttercup Farm asking if I order from them could the assure delivery which they did. I ordered the bench hand was sent a delivery date of only a few days away. Didn’t hear anything more until it showed up at my door.
I’m really happy with the bench, it was easy to assemble and looks great quality.
Thank you Buttercup Farm, I would certainly order from the again.

A poor company with poor delivery service

So I have given the company and opportunity to reply but they haven’t so rather than type it all out again below is the email I sent which details my experience -

Hi

Sorry for the tone of this email but I am rather annoyed with the delivery service of my item.

After ordering the furniture set you informed me that the company would be in contact to arrange delivery. Well they did not contact me and this week I was away as was my partner with work.

Checking my emails everyday and the web link you sent me I still had no idea when the item would be delivered.

So when my partner got home after a very long day at work she was rather cross to find the below, dumped on the pavement outside the wrong house -

God knows how long it was there for, and my neighbour who is disabled and in a wheelchair chair could not even go out until it was moved. Janie managed to unpack and move it as I was away so now I had a very cross partner and neighbours.

So I checked the pallet force web site to see the below summary -

This is clearly a lie as I was roughly about 200 miles away so now I am cross and annoyed.

Before I leave a negative review about my customer experience with you I thought I should give you an opportunity to offer some sort of explanation in relation to this chain poor service.

So in summary they take your money and the delivery company they employ turn up when they want without notice dump the item in the middle of the pavement blocking access and then lie that I have received, checked and signed for it.

Not acceptable ….

Communication is poor

Products are good value, well made and if decent quality (excellent for the price)
Communication is the company's only downside, no information until the date of delivery - which was 8 days!!
