Communal spaces.
When you first move in told what your service charge will be spent on. Community spaces will be updated every 5 to 10 years with new furnishings, carpets etc. I suppose first impressions from perspective buyers are put off by conditions of Communal lounges when they first enter.

Company has too many restrictions ie service charge 1% buyers fee. One thing that is right is our house manager Debs she is so helpful and kind nothing is too much trouble we want her forever please.

I love living here

Whitefields Court, Whitfield.
I'm a visitor to Whitefields Court and I've noticed how beautiful the garden is looking. All of the hedges are neatly cut & there is a lot of colour to make the garden look vibrant. Linda is doing a fantastic job as a house manager, keeping things running smoothly. All of the residents are in fantastic spirit about the job Linda is doing, organising activities & being available for any issues that needs resolving. She takes great pride in watering the hanging baskets to keep the vibrancy alive at Whitefields Court

Our House Manager Liz Franklin at…Lewsey Court
Our House Manager Liz Franklin at Lewsey Court, Tetbury goes out of her way to make sure everyone is safe and happy in our development. Nothing is too much trouble for her. We are extremely lucky to have Liz here. I personally don't know what I'd do without her. It is a comfort to know she is here for us. I've never known someone as hardworking too. Liz also indulges us with her gorgeous food and cakes throughout the year, which are very well received. Liz is the best!!

Overall a great decision by my mum
Overall this was a great decision by my mum to retire here. The house-manager is fabulous & couldn’t be more helpful. Its a lovely friendly safe community (36 flats), beautiful building & lovely communal lounge & shared garden. A great way to keep independence.
The only negative ls are that this not an investment like a house, most people loose money on resale (we estimate 20% loss) but will probably move in ourselves rather than sellup. McCarthy & Stone can be a bit tricky e.g. trying to put unnecessary additions to ground rent etc (currently reasonable for mum) as presumably go for the one size fits all model. Otherwise would be 5*

I have been charmed on each visit. Through teaching chair yoga I have…
Through teaching chair yoga I have become acquainted with the McCarthy & Stone residence & community at The White Field independent living flats in Whitfield, Dover.
This has been my first introduction to the building & this way of living. Firstly I would like to share what a beautiful building it is - set within a pretty grounds of lovingly well kept flower beds, shrubs & welcoming hanging baskets at the entrance.
The foyer & community living area are beautifuly decorated. The ambience is fresh, clean, airy & inviting. Louis the 14th cream damask chairs await residence, family & friends with a kitchenette for cosy cups of tea. There is a wonderful laundrette & toilets located further along the corridor . Easy to access & cleaned to the highest of standards.
Linda the Manageress is an absolute gem. She is supportive, kind & caring towards all the residence. She also is very enthusiastic & passionate about creating a strong community for everyone. She wants very much for there to be opportunities for the men & women of the community to have social activities. There is a vibrant notice board area with weekly chair yoga, sing-a-longs, games nights, outings & the fish & chips on a Friday is very popular. Residence can dip in & out of these groups if they so wish creating friendship, decreasing loneliness & isolation, have fun or maintain movement & strength.
I love teaching the chair yoga group in the communal area. Many who attend walk in with zimmer frames & many walk in un-aided. We gently stretch, softly strengthen, maintain range of movement & find some relaxation & calm together. There is 50’s music & much laughter.
I truly think the McCarthy & Stone standards, facilities, ethos & community are a five stars development. They offer a wonderful option for this later chapter in one’s life. My eyes have definitely opened in a good way to the options ‘out there’ for later ways to live life. I personally see so many plus’s to this type of independent living. I can see so many beautiful, supportive & caring friendships blooming around me when I am there.
Selling your own home must be the hardest decisions but that doesn’t mean you have to loose Independence. In life there are many chapters & I see this chapter as one where you can meet & nurture new friendships, be less alone, less isolated, join in activities if you want to, have support all whilst importantly maintaining your own personal space & sense of independence.
I see the folk are thriving & it makes me at 55 less worried about my future. They have new lives. It’s like a whole new start. I think it is wonderful, important & very reassuring that such high standards exists for when these huge life changes & milestones may come to us.
I have been very charmed by the community, manageress, building & flowered grounds.

Marbury Court simply the best!
Shelly (estate manager), Katy (duty manager), Lynn (reception) and ALL the wider team consistently go above and beyond and for that as a family we are extremely grateful and will never be able to thank them enough. Mum was initially reluctant to move from her 3 bedroom home but immediately fell in love with her apartment, enjoying making new friends, dining in the bistro and having Waitrose as her corner shop! She also felt safe. When she was poorly the staff were immediately on hand, escalating when necessary and phoning us, a much valued emergency service! When she needed extra support it was very quickly put in place by Shelly, with thorough risk assessments and it was lovely that mum received care from staff she knew.

Great Hospitality
I recently stayed a few days at the Crayshaw Court Guest Suite in Reading. Because of the heat wave, the house manager Donna, had very thoughtfully closed the blinds and curtains and left a jug of filtered water in the room's mini-fridge. This was very much appreciated after a long day of train travel and felt very welcoming.

New to the area!
We have lived in our flat at Queensgate, Wokingham for just over a year. We are 100% happy with our move. The location is good, close to transport and town. Our house manager Lorraine Roger’s has been a huge help. She keeps her eye on all residents and is always willing to help. There is a nice community feel in the complex.
