I’ve been with 123‑reg for many years, but the service has gone downhill recently. I received an email saying my website would be removed due to an outstanding payment. I checked my account and the payment method on file was valid, so I contacted customer service to report what I believed was a suspicious email.
Instead of addressing the issue, the conversation was immediately turned into a sales pitch about upgrading my hosting for a longer period. My concern about the suspicious email was brushed aside, and the call became more about selling me add‑ons than solving the problem. This was followed by multiple cold calls trying to sell more products.
In the end, the email was not suspicious — but they still removed my website, claiming my card had been declined. I then paid using the exact same card they already had on file, and suddenly everything worked again and my services were restored for another year.
After years of loyalty, this whole experience felt careless, sales‑driven, and dismissive of genuine customer concerns.

Hosting works fine until something goes wrong, at which point support immediately deflects responsibility. Spent an entire day troubleshooting slow WordPress admin performance and JSON save errors after a PHP upgrade. Support told me it was a WordPress issue and to hire a developer.
After doing the technical investigation myself, I proved conclusively that PHP 8.1 on their server produced 4 second save times and PHP 8.2 produced 30 second save times - identical WordPress setup, identical plugins, identical configuration. The only variable was their PHP version.
Their response? 'Not our problem.'
The hosting works. The support is useless the moment anything requires actual technical knowledge. If you're running a business-critical site, make sure you know what you're doing yourself - because they won't help you.
In repose to Vera's reply - first line support told me they were speaking to technical support - who offered the 'not our problem' solution.
I feel I must add as well, that I find it strange that the problem I am having is one that you are looking to charge users for starting in June... it's almost as if you don't want to help (or, are even causing the issue) so that you can charge for additional support moving forward.

We were moved to 123 Reg after they acquired our previous hosting provider. We were explicitly told our package and service would remain the same.
Before the move, SSL certificates were included and installed automatically. After the transfer, our websites began going down repeatedly because SSL was no longer being installed. Each time, we had to contact support to get it fixed.
On one occasion we were told there would now be a £50 charge to install the SSL, which we reluctantly accepted just to get the site back online.
Most recently, the site went down again and we were told they “no longer offer that service” and that we would need to add a paid “managed SSL” add-on to our hosting. At that point it felt less like support and more like being forced into paying to restore a broken service that was previously included.
To make matters worse, when we called back to proceed, another member of the sales team had no knowledge of this add-on and instead tried to push a full hosting migration. When challenged, there was little interest in resolving the issue, and we were told someone else (“Robert”) might call back. He never did.
In the end, our website remained down and we had to pay an independent IT consultant to resolve the issue ourselves.
This experience has been frustrating, inconsistent, and ultimately costly. Based on this, I would strongly recommend avoiding 123 Reg.

My bank records show no attempts to take payment. After I complained, they were miraculousy able to take payment without any further information from me. When I complained, they insisted they had sent email notifications but later admitted they hadn't. Shocking.
I realised that I had not received any emails for several days on the address managed by 123. On testing I found that emails sent from that address had never arrived either. Tried to sort it out via the chatbot. It claims to have fixed the problem and that it will take 48 hours to take effect. Gave no proper explanation of the issue, insisted that it was not 123’s fault or responsibility,( implying it was my fault despite me not accessing my account for years) refused my request to speak to a human and said the undelivered emails were lost and could not be recovered. In summary useless

For some curious reason, 123-reg has stopped auto-renewing random domains. Over the past month, one domain was renewed, two said they would auto-renew but didn't.
And don't get me started on their control panel. Finally rewritten, and still feels like something from the 90s. Poor navigation and clumsy design.
What is the point of using a domain registration company that can't perform the simplest of admin tasks for you, and makes it difficult to manage the domains they haven't let slip into the ether?
Time to start looking for somebody that does the job properly I think...

Big problem with Invoicing, no matter what, if PayPal is set to the invoicing team, won't update the address on Invoices. This is fine if you need a receipt, but these are invoices. After weeks of talking to various teams, including the "Office of the CEO" team, they refuse to correct the address on the invoices despite the address not matching the PayPal Address. Complaints to the ICO have also been filed, as I changed the address on the account and PayPal orders 3 years ago. They're also slow to allow you to add Security features (DMARC being one, which took 2 years after it was main stay to implement)

After 3 attempts at contact to access my domain, each time a ticket being raised to upper technical support, I’ll likely have to wait for the domain lapse and move it to another company.
Shane really, as the ability to contact was good, just the fact it doesn’t actually do anything.

I can’t do this any longer. I’ve had a brain injury and managed to lock myself out of my account because I forgot my password. My short term memory is very bad so have made a mistake with my recovery email. I have been trying to just pay them so I can get my emails back online. It’s been weeks now. All I need to do is pay them, all they need to do is send me a payment link to the correct email address. Thats all that needs to happen. I’ve spent hours on the phone with people telling me there’s nothing whatsoever they can do. I really need access to my emails, this is now urgent. Just send me a payment link to the correct recovery address which I have provided so I can pay and regain access to my emails. They even sent me to a domain website to sort out my domain and get back to them. It’s flippin them. The number redirects to 123 reg. This is very urgent now. I need access to my emails. Just send a link to the correct email address and I’ll pay the money. And bear in mind I’m disabled with a brain injury.
Update: I’ve now gotten to the bottom of it after his knows how long. My website was set up by a third party who I’ve now spoken to who is going to sort it out for me today.

The subscription for one of the products auto renewed and I haven't used for a while and have no immediate plans to use - when I contacted them in the chat facility I was chatting to Alexandra in almost no time and with super clear information and instructions the service was cancelled and the subscription refunded. I am rather pleased with the great level of support.

I've been a 123-Reg customer for nearly two decades, at one time managing around 18 domains. For most of that I was happy to recommend it to other business owners. Not any more! Now I advise everyone who values their sanity (and their wallet's contents) to stay well away.
Let's start with this. It has come to feel that periodic service outages have been almost the norm. Stable platform? Not in my recent experience.
Then there's the so-called technical support that has been going steadily downhill over recent years, making the latest iteration of their now-awful user control panel even more of a problem. It's as if they lose interest once you've ordered a service and paid for it.
Billing itself is also haphazard. I've been repeatedly charged over the last several months for services that have no invoices attached to them. They haven't sent me any kind of notification that there's a bill to be paid. They just keep charging my card. I can't find out what they're for, can't stop them, and I can't even change the card linked to my account to stop 123-reg trying to take yet more money off me without telling me what they want it for.
My mailbox (when it isn't having another technical outage) keeps telling me I'm over-quota, despite my having purchased a larger package up front that has apparently been downgraded without them ever notifying me. They do keep billing me, however.
I've built and managed numerous large and complex websites, so I'm not exactly a newbie in this field. I put together a simple business site for a friend on 123-reg. Never again! The site builder is clunky, glitchy and a real pain to work with. I've suggested they move their site elsewhere.
Now I'm attempting to move the last domain away from this "provider", and neither the "control" panel, "help" center or the chat operator have been anything other than non-helpful. This should be a simple process. Not with 123-Reg it isn't!
When I started dealing with 123-Reg, they were an industry leader, the best of the best. That's why I shifted all my work there. What has happened to them? Asset strippers? I don't know. All I do know is that I will never, ever willingly deal with them again and that is a real pity.
Actually damaging my business by barring me from my own account. And YES ive offered to provide every scrap of id I own bank statements bills birth certificate. They need banning from the uk. 6 months and still cant use my own domain for my business.

They have made it impossible to contact support, by email or ticket. I do not wish to use live chat or phone as this takes my valuable time.
They provided me with a mailbox, that I paid for, but it had faults and I asked for a partial refund as it was not fit for purpose. I also raised a complaint, which was logged. However, after several weeks I have heard nothing. Its impossible to log in to see tickets and the log in for the complaint pushes me to a new domain, for go daddy but I only have a 123 reg account. Not happy and feeling frustrated.

In my numerous attempts spanning months to access my account I've been mislead by incompetent staff phone and email from 123 customer service to account recovery who all advise the other department is responsible in helping to reset the password and retrieve my account. Never experienced such ineptitude from an organisation like this. PLEASE RECOVER MY ACCOUNT!!!!

charging £15.50 for a .co.uk renewal after they bought out my hosting company. before that, and with another service provider i also use that should be around £7.
Contacted support who raised a ticket and then never bothered to respond to it.
Would never have chosen to use this company had I had the choice, now this has confirmed it. Will be transfering the domain name away as soon as I get the chance. will never willingly give them a penny of my money ever again.
Purchased a domain name, then a few months later a web hosting package. My web designer has spent the past 5 days trying to connect via ftp. The advisors on the phone are chatty but have very little technical knowledge. I was promised a phone call back within an hour and it took all day and then a ticket was raised. I was told I would get a ticket number via email immediately. This never came and so I had to phone again and repeat the story over again. Then I got a ticket number. I spoke to several advisors over a day or two. I was promised a manager would phone to sort this out. This never happened. Basically I've been pushed from pillar to post with bits of different advice to convey to my web designer all to no avail. Over Easter and meanwhile, I've consulted AI for advice. This is far better than anything 123 has offered thus far. In desperation we are going to launch my website via the file manager rather than ftp as my web designer of 20 years cannot access the ftp. This is unsatisfactory to say the least and has delayed the launch of my website by several days and many hours of frustration both for myself and my web designer. I will be resuming my efforts with 123 tomorrow to try to get a result with ftp connection but have very little faith in this company. I hope they will give a partial refund for all this hassle. I will write a further review with the final outcome.
In the end they stepped up to the plate and sent a detailed email when they eventually managed to log in themselves. So finally we have access to ftp and have a live website. It's a pity they couldn't do this to begin with but better late than not at all. The staff at the lower levels do their best within their remit.

I had my hosting from tsohost transferred. They recently told me my renewal was due but they made a mistake and gave an extra month as goodwill, that allowed me to transfer host.
Today I received an email saying they made a mistake and the renewal is actually April 2027. So I have paid a year sooner than I needed to.

Whilst they are brilliant at answering the phone, I have now been calling every day for two weeks as access to my microsoft apps has stopped all of a sudden although i paid 5 years in advance, they keep telling me it will be resolved "today". i get emails saying an issue has been resolved but it isn't the one I raised. There is no escalation process or complaints department, just the call centre who pass on your requests to someone that you have no contact with.
