I phoned to request my appointment was brought forwards. I spoke with the practice manager who was extremely adaptable to my needs and very professional. I managed to get an appointment the next day. Thank you.

Recently Attended South cliff Station plaza. Reception girls were so lovely and helpful. Dentist and nurse i saw was absolutely professional.

I attended southcliff dental group st Leonard’s today, I had such a great experience! The staff was warm and welcoming, my nurse caris and dentist gayatri took the time to explain everything clearly. I felt completely at ease throughout my appointment, and the care I received was outstanding. The reception team was very friendly and made me feel very welcome. I have recently had a dental check up & hygienist appointment in Steyning which was easy to book and my clinician Lakshmi is very helpful and professional. I recently joined Steyning Dental Clinic as NHS patient along with my partner, which was the best decision i ever made.The reception staff is so welcoming, efficient and so helpful.I am an anxious patient,but the environment in there made me so relieved.The clinician explained everything in detail and i had a filling despite of my anxiety.Overall an amazing experience and would recommend to everyone.

The full time receptionist is very unfriendly and unhelpful to the point of rudeness. When I arrived she as in the middle of a dispute with another patient.
last time I went on a Saturday when there was a lovely friendly receptionist, however she was of a very unkempt appearance with clothes so creased up and looking like in fact she had just arrived at work without going home the previous night!
What has really made up my mind to leave a review though is the dreadful state of their toilet. It was unclean, the hand soap was just from a plastic bottle with its lid removed, but in actual fact empty. the radiator is rusty and dirty, there were no paper hand towels nor air dryer for hands and was just dreadful. If I had seen this before I had my appointment instead of after I would have walked out.
The whole property is very run down, the hygienist chair with many brown taped cuts in it. And a horrible damp smell to top it off.
I cannot understand why there are good reviews, really there is nothing good about this practice.
I had the offer of 4 appointments otherwise I would have left after the 1st one. Now I have had the 4 i will never go back again.
The only positive is that the hygienist is a lovely lady, but I can’t get past all the other negative aspects of this business.

According to their recording - My smile is their top priority, sadly answering the phone not so much !! Really hard to contact, book etc. 16 minutes on hold over 4 calls.... 'Your call will be answered shortly' ... no. no it won't be !
Dental visit
I phoned Trinity Trees in Eastbourne as they were taking on NHS patients. My experience was that all staff were very friendly and helpful. Yulia undertook my assessment and treatment, she explained everything that she was doing and put me at my ease. All the staff understand that patients can be nervous so all try to put you at your ease. A thoroughly positive experience.

Terrible treatment, no protection for patients
On 25 Oct 2024 Dr Yazdani a new 'Senior Private Dentist' at South Cliff Dental Group in Hastings replaced 3 fillings in such a clumsy way, causing acid burns to my mouth and nose and a cut to my tongue, injuries which caused me trouble for 2 weeks, that I suspected that Dr Y may not be appropriately qualified, and certainly failed to show appropriate levels of skill on this occasion. I was so concerned that I found it inappropriate to complain to him but eventually managed to refer the matter to the General Dental Council. They took some months to respond saying they had not found evidence that Dr Y, recently recruited from abroad, was not appropriately qualified though they appeared to share my concern about the quality of my treatment. My previous dentist at the Battle Road Practice in Hastings gave me excellent service but left South Cliff before Dr Y came; it may come as no surprise that he did so. Following the GDC information I submitted a formal complaint to South Cliff which they have been considering for months: the most recent response promised failed to materialise after Dr Y said he is not prepared to offer any refund (or compensation I suppose) because he had "given appropriate treatment". Apparently he deems injury and a failure to calculate the necessary depth of fillings to be appropriate. This practice and will not protect you from abuse and neither, it seems, will the numerous bodies charged with regulating dentists. An NHS dentist at another practice corrected the fillings later as well as possible. Avoid this practice and this dentist in particular.

Distressing Experience: Concerns Regarding Standards, Referral Accuracy, and Follow-Up Care
I was referred to this dental practice based on a recommendation from a previous provider who operated from the exact location. Unfortunately, my experience was marked by unprofessionalism, inadequate hygiene, and an overall shocking quality of care that no patient, particularly those with complex medical needs, should have to endure.
The condition of the dental room was concerning, with peeling paint, a general sense of neglect, and an appearance akin to a temporary setup. The equipment was limited and outdated, contributing to an environment that felt neither clinical nor safe. The dentist demonstrated an apparent lack of experience, was not attired in appropriate clinical attire, and had a backpack nearby, creating an informal and unsettling atmosphere. No comprehensive dental treatment plan was presented, and I repeatedly questioned and advocated for a referral. Additionally, no further treatment options were discussed, despite being charged Band B immediately following the check-up regarding referral for tooth extraction, which is urgent in my case.
I provided a detailed medical history that included a comprehensive list of medications and diagnoses, and reliance on maximum-strength controlled painkillers. I also conveyed my responsibilities as a registered carer for an individuals with complex special educational needs. I also work with an educational provider and advocate for SEN individuals who rely on my care and support daily. My condition was deteriorating after the visit. My pain intensified, resulting in neurological symptoms, dizziness, cognitive strain and inability to fulfil my legal duties and responsibilities.
Regrettably, the referral I eventually received was both incomplete and inaccurate. It indicated "None" across all medical categories, omitted any reference to my medication, and failed to acknowledge my carer responsibilities and communication preferences, risking further delays and hospitalisation if I do not receive help. Due to a central nervous system disorder that affects how the brain and spinal cord process pain, I experience falls.
Most frustrating was the four-day wait for the referral. Despite my explicit and repeated request for all communication to occur via email due to my professional obligations, caregiving responsibilities, and the considerable pain I was experiencing, the receptionist opted to call instead of adhering to my written preference, which I emphasised was critical for both medical and legal purposes. Upon questioning this decision, I was met with gaslighting and blame-shifting, being informed that "several calls were made," despite my telephone records indicating only one missed call .
As a professional who specialises in drafting and managing legal documents, I found the handling of basic paperwork to be shocking. I was given a form to sign with a green pen, only to be informed that a copy could not be made due to the ink colour. Subsequently, I was given a black pen and instructed to complete a second form to retain as proof. This resulted in two disparate documents without clarifying which one had been officially submitted.
The dentist proceeded to take multiple X-rays due to difficulties positioning the equipment correctly, yet I had to seek an explanation regarding the subsequent steps, future treatment, and costs. As a result, I was left confused, in pain, and lacking a proper care plan. Given the practice's over 25% negative reviews, I now regret placing my trust in the recommendation based on a former provider no longer operating at this location.
I am currently awaiting an update concerning my referral. Should I not receive confirmation that it has been amended and submitted correctly, I will not hesitate to escalate this matter. I intend to direct my concerns to several oversight and regulatory bodies, including:
- The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is responsible for issues about hygiene, professionalism, and clinical standards.
- General Dental Council (GDC) regarding dentists' conduct and competence.
- Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) for unresolved complaints and failures in duty of care.
- The Local Integrated Care Board (ICB) focuses on referral handling and prioritisation failures.
- Healthwatch England will highlight the patient experience and systemic neglect.
I am not alone in my concerns, based on existing reviews and personal experience. This practice must be held accountable for its actions or lack thereof. Patients are entitled to transparency, respect, and timely care. I will not permit this matter to be overlooked.
