What a fantastic Aussie company and icon. I took my 5 year old RM boots back to the local store. The sole had completely given away and was starting to separate from the upper. Without question they did a full sole replacement on both and cleaned them up. On top of that they did it gratis as a goodwill will gesture. Talk about stand by your product, what a company. Couldn’t be happier. RMW for life for me.

I purchased an R.M.Williams Drover Belt after trying on a size 36 in store and confirming that was the correct size. The sales assistant went out the back to get me a new one in the box. I reasonably assumed she had brought me the same size I had just tried on.

Unfortunately, she gave me a size 38.

At first I could wear it on the tightest hole, but after some wear and the leather settling and stretching, it became too large. When I went back to the store and explained what had happened, their solution was for me to buy another belt, which by then was around $20 more expensive.

I contacted R.M.Williams customer service on 14 June. Their automated response said they aimed to reply within two business days.

They finally responded on 4 September, nearly three months later.

They acknowledged that my enquiry had been "inadvertently missed", but then refused to exchange the belt partly because of the "extended time period".

So R.M.Williams took nearly three months to respond to my complaint and then cited the passage of time as part of the reason they couldn't properly investigate it.

Even more bizarrely, they pointed out that my invoice shows a size 38.

That's precisely the problem.

I tried on and selected a size 36. Their employee retrieved the boxed belt and supplied me with a size 38. Of course the invoice says 38. That's the belt their employee mistakenly handed me.

Their final solution? Take my premium R.M.Williams belt to a local cobbler and pay to have it altered.

I'm not asking for a freebie or trying to return something because I changed my mind. I simply wanted the size 36 belt I selected and thought I had purchased in the first place.

Mistakes happen. Good companies are judged by how they deal with them.

Perhaps R.M.Williams has become big enough that losing one customer over something this simple doesn't matter to them. I'm sure one customer won't make much difference to their sales.

But treating customers as though they don't matter eventually does.

I will never buy R.M.Williams shoes again.

I paid around $700 for what I expected to be excellent quality and long-lasting craftsmanship. Unfortunately, the quality has been very disappointing, especially considering the price.

For $700, I expect much better durability and customer support. This level of quality is simply not acceptable for such an expensive pair of shoes.

Very disappointed with my purchase and with R.M.Williams. I will think twice before spending this kind of money on their products again.

Have been fortunate enough to have purchased/received 2 pairs of boots this year. I had noticed a loud squeaking with one pair and after trying various online tips I went to the store at Penrith looking for help.
You forget what customer service is until you go into an RM Williams store, and again this was no different. They know about the product, identified the issue and offered a replacement without hesitation. At no time did I feel like I was being treated like a fool or criminal and the experience and outcome was exceptional. Thank you to the team at Penrith for this; I’ll be sure to come back for the matching belt!

Expected a lot better from RM Williams. I had my first pair of RM Williams boots at 17, a point when the price was much more reasonable (even allowing for inflation). I recently travelled to Cambridge to look a resizing one pair and repairing the other. This work was quoted at £370 which was a bit painful but they have a sentimental value having owned them both so long. Perhaps this is a little pathetic but I condition them weekly with both with RM leather conditioner. To do that for 24 years to then be told that they now cannot even attempt a repair or suggest any other solution albeit they pride themselves on being true craftsmen is extremely disappointing particularly considering the money I have spent repairing them over that time.

It also took them a month to come to this conclusion and no alternative option or offer of anything for the inconvenience is not consistent with a company charging the prices they charge. Loake offered me a new pair of shoes free of charge when they were not able to repair a pair of brogues I owned.

I have not given a 1 star due to the quality of the shoes I purchased 10 and 20 years ago although I cannot attest whether this is reflective of the quality today. I should also reflect other reviews on here stating that in-store staff are consistently commended for their politeness and helpful service which was what I found.

I was surprised that this kind of company had a low score on here... Mostly I feel sadness that this company no longers seems to be what it was.

I bought a pair of rubber sole black boots online and 2 years down the line they have worn through where my little toe is. I had them measured professionally at a shop before I ordered online so this is extremely disappointing for a £400 pair of boots. I took them to a local store to see what could be done and they have basically told me that I ordered a size too small so it's not their fault.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience has been incredibly disappointing. I ordered a $600 bag online in the first week of June, and weeks later it still hasn’t arrived due to ongoing warehouse issues. The communication and customer service throughout has been poor, with little proactive updates or urgency.

What’s even more frustrating is that the bag has been in stock at the Adelaide store, yet no effort was made to fulfil the order from there while the warehouse issues were ongoing. On top of that, once it was finally dispatched, it wasn’t even sent via express shipping despite the significant delay.

For a premium Australian brand with premium prices, I’d expect a much higher standard of customer service and fulfilment. Very disappointing experience.

I purchased a $800 pair of RM Williams boots in December last year and after only wearing them for 6 months they a falling apart, I took them back to the store I purchased them from hoping to get them replaced, they have been sent off for repair, which will take 6-8 weeks, given the price I paid i feel expecting a replacement is reasonable as they are clearly faulty, I am extremely frustrated and disappointed by this, I also called the customer service line to discuss it further and the girl on the phone was useless.

Getting my husband into these boots was not easy, given the price tag so I tricked him into the store got him fitted and paid for them all under his nose. It was a birthday present. He didn’t open the box for a good month scared he’d get blisters. He came home from work and said… “ OMG I didn’t get blisters … they were soooooo comfortable… “well dear” I said that’s where my money went “

But I ruin shoes so quickly they won’t last ! He said….
No dear they will last a lifetime…

They aren’t expensive they are an absolute investment.

I purchased a pair of RM Williams boots one year ago. Unfortantly the leather on the toes started to look like it was rubbing and chaffing. I went into the Newmarket store over the weekend to ask what to do. they replaced them instantly. when you spend $850 on a pair of boots you want them to last. it was great to see RM Williams stand behind their product.

The boots themselves are great, but the aftercare experience has been extremely disappointing.

I sent my boots to an authorised repairer for assessment and was advised that there appears to be a manufacturing fault, requiring the soles to be replaced. After already paying to send them to an authorised repairer, I contacted RM through their online chat for support.

Unfortunately, the response I received was rude and unhelpful. I was simply told that the boots would need to be sent back directly to RM for assessment, with no acknowledgement of the cost or inconvenience I had already gone through by using their authorised repairer. When I asked to speak with a manager, the representative ended the chat.

For a company with this reputation, I expected far better customer service. I am very frustrated by how this has been handled and disappointed that a genuine issue has been met with such poor communication.

Vindicate Customer Service
Due to their website problems I experienced difficulties with information and getting a shipping label after a rude experience with AJ I I made a complaint I paid my money for a resole of the boots and shipped the boots A week Later AJ informs me that the boots cannot be repaired because the leather is damaged and claims that I sent photos It’s total bullshit and they still have my boots be very careful of this company lots of customer service problems occurring.

R.M. Williams are Top Quality Leather Products… everything they make are FANTASTIC

Utter Garbage. The lining in my right boot wore through above the toe and the left under the toe. I had to have a cobbler replace the heel rubber as well because that fell off. These are meant to be premium boots.
Never again. My $150 Wittner boots have lasted 5 years. My $800 RMs lasted 3 months. I expect that from Kmart shoes

I’m extremely disappointed with my experience with R.M. Williams.

I purchased a pair of boots in Australia less than two months ago, expecting the high quality and durability the brand is known for and actively markets (“crafted for life”). Unfortunately, the boots developed significant issues almost immediately — including cracking in the leather and structural problems with the sole and heel.

Before contacting R.M. Williams, I had the boots assessed by an independent cobbler, who confirmed that there were clear construction faults from the outset, particularly with the heel stitching not properly securing the structure.

I then contacted customer service and was initially told the boots could be assessed and repaired. Based on that, I sent them in.

After inspection, they refused to repair them, claiming the leather was “too dry” and that the damage was not due to a manufacturing fault. This is after less than two months of normal use.

When I challenged this — referencing Australian Consumer Law and the fact that a product should be durable and of acceptable quality — I received a generic response stating that their decision was “final.”

Since then, they have simply stopped responding altogether.

This is not just about the product, but how the situation has been handled:
• A product failing after two months is not acceptable for a premium brand
• Clear signs of construction issues were dismissed
• Responsibility was shifted onto the customer
• Communication stopped when I requested escalation

For a company that builds its reputation on quality and longevity, this is deeply disappointing and not in line with consumer expectations or rights under Australian Consumer Law.

I would strongly reconsider purchasing from R.M. Williams based on both product quality and after-sales support.

Excellent quality. Comfortable. Cant stop wearing them, on my feet all day, they are just right. Highly recommend!

I have just purchased two pairs of boots (1400) and one paid has been delivered used.

Customer service (Nataliya) was no help, apparently the best they can do is I submit a refund and then wait for the refund, and then buy new boots? The customer service is not worth the price.

Well I’m 56 and found a quality product that suits my age. I was once an Italian boot enthusiast but discovered Australian made of the same if not better quality and no doubt based on the amount of RM I’ve purchased I should own an outlet. If I could I would. The CARINDALE and Gardencity staff are stupendous in service and relational matters.
If you enjoy quality like myself then RM Williams is your best choice.

God forbid you pay £450 for a pair of boots and they arrive faulty. The return and customer service is shocking!!!

Save your time and money and buy your boots from somewhere else!!!
