Stay away from this company! You are better off with any other one. They rip you off, especially if your a foreigner, they just see a money sign on you. A biker hit us while we were parked and they charged me triple what it would have cost me to fix it at a mechanics. Then once I left the country they charged me with a hidden fee on top of it that never told me about. I lost so much money with them and they left me in debt. Stay away! Trust me.

J'ai effectué une réservation chez Expedia et j'ai payé l'intégralité. Arrivés sur place à Cancun Mex Rent a exigé un montant complémentaire de 500 euros pour assurance. Nous sommes restés deux heures trente à discuter pour leur expliquer que l'assurance est incluse dans notre carte Visa mais ils n'ont rien voulu savoir. Nous étions obligés de payer les cinq cents euros. C'est très triste quand vous arrivez fatigués après des heures de vol et obligé d'être confronté à ce genre de situation. Ce genre d'agence ne devrait pas exister car vous n'avez pas d'issue. C'est une agence à fuir. Ils existent sur deux noms différents Mas et Mex

Literalmente me han estafado. Fue en Costa Rica. Las luces eran tan ruinosas que no se veía NADA por la noche. Además, el capó se abría solo mientras conducías (se abría unos centímetros). Pedí que me cambiaran el coche porque lo consideraba peligroso y accedieron. Yo cometí el error de no estar presente cuando devolví el coche ya que me partía la ruta. Total, que dijeron que había agua en los bajos y que había un fallo mecánico… Yo no metí el coche en ningún sitio y si estaba mojado es porque había temporal en el país y llovía 24-7…. Total, me hicieron pagar 3400dólares que según ellos el seguro me devolvería. Yo no estaba de acuerdo con pagarlo porque no había hecho nada… pero con la presión del vuelo, accedí… resultado: meses de lucha para conseguir papeles necesarios para el seguro y todo para nada… pasaban de mi y el seguro no me cubrió nada! Fue una estafa total

hard to find - they have two addresses listed ( I went to the wrong one) and it takes a couple -shuttles to get there and get back to LAX
A mean, surly lady behind the counter, due to her having to explain to people why it ok that they are getting ripped off. There are so many details hidden in the rental contract that they find a way to overcharge you for something. Don't be fooled by the low prices. Even if they gave away the car for free rental, they would still find a way to ding you and cost just as much as any other. Not worth the inconvenience

The company is a rip off. I rented this car through AARP travel. I paid in full with my Amex weeks before picking up the car. When I arrived to pick up the car they informed me that the don't honor Amex even though the car was fully paid for. The wanted a 750.00 Insurance charge and a 1000.00 deposit. I refused and canceled the car and went somewhere else. They charged me the full fee a a no show. Made multiple attempts to contact the company. They did not pick up or return the call. AARP travel had the same issue.

⚠️ Avoid Mex Rent a Car – Hidden Damage Charges and Forced Insurance

I rented through EconomyBookings and was forced by Mex staff to buy extra insurance locally, even though I was already covered. They claimed their insurance would cover everything “directly” and eliminate the need for any claims.

At drop-off, their staff inspected the vehicle in person and confirmed it was fine — only charged me for cleaning. But 48 hours later, I received a 1,000 PLN charge for alleged damage, without my knowledge, signature, or proper evidence. This is clearly a predatory practice.

I’ve since learned many others have faced the same tactics — fake damage, max excess charges, and no accountability. I’ve filed a complaint with the platform and my card provider.

Si tuviera cero estrellas lo dejaría así plasmado. Son unos estafadores. Te ofrecen precios económicos en las páginas de renta como expedía y a la hora d llegar a recoger tu carro te obligan a comprar una aseguranza aparte de la que ya tienes puesta. Y cuando no estás de acuerdo te dicen q no puedes regresarte tu dinero. Por suerte en Experian si respondieron y me reembolsaron. Las personas que te atienden también súper burlones y se reían cuando uno no está de acuerdo con lo que estaba pagando. Súper mala opinion de esta renta de carro

**Avoid this company at all costs.** Like many others on Trustpilot, we had a terrible experience. The car we received was extremely dirty, heavily scratched, and had over 138,000 km on the clock. Despite this, they charged us €500 for a chip in the windscreen and claimed to have found 7–8 additional minor damages—most of which were never mentioned during the 30-minute inspection when we returned the vehicle.

To make matters worse, they issued an invoice without providing any photographic evidence and immediately instructed us to contact our insurance company so they could handle it directly. The whole process felt highly suspicious and unprofessional.

Attention ce sont les pro de l'arnaque !
Aillant déjà loué chez eux il y a 6 ans et ayant déjà eu une mauvaise aventure j'ai quand même reloué chez eux.
Ce sont des arnaqueurs. J'ai payé en ligne la location de la voiture pour 15 jours. Quand vous arrivez il vous demande une assurance qui couvre les personnes que vous pouvez éventuellement "tuer" avec leur voiture. Après avoir présenté ma responsabilité civile ainsi que mes assurances mastercard, il manquait toujours quelque chose.
2 options s'offrent à vous : partir de l'agence et vous perdez votre location que vous avez déjà payé en ligne.
Ou alors payer une assurance à 30 euros par jour supplémentaire. Soit 450 euros.
Après négociation nous avons payé 19 euros par jour. Pas le choix vous êtes coincés.
Donc ne louez pas chez eux.
Je leur souhaite qu'il fassent faillite. Cette entreprise donne une très mauvaise image du Mexique qui n'est pas du tout représentative.
Bref fuyez !!!

This company is nothing more than a scam. They have no interest in renting you a car for the price you agreed to online; their sole objective is to sell you insurance. What if you already have insurance? It doesn't matter. They will "find" something wrong with whatever proof you offer to them.

They take you to a remote lot, waste your time standing in line, and then tell you whatever insurance you think you have isn't sufficient, all in the service of selling you their insurance. Out of the four people who I witnessed at their office, every single one of them were told their insurance coverage was not good.

Two of them left in a huff, as did I. They hope they will wear you down so that you say "OK, I'll buy your insurance". Many times it works.

Prepare to be inconvenienced, insulted, and cheated. Avoid them at all costs. The company is a scam company and the people working for them are scam artists. Despicable.

Worst rental experience ever. They never cared customer and asked $1000 for deposit. Avoid this

This company rips you off. Beware that they offer low prices for reservation and make you purchase unnecessary insurance while picking up the car. Their rationale is that they cannot accept coverage from two companies. The cars they provide are also full of damages both on the interior and exterior. You end up paying more than you would have paid at premium companies.

Es una oficina con distintos nombres, MEX y ADDCAR entre otros. Hacen ofertas económicas, para atacarte con su seguro. Teníamos ya un seguro y no pudimos conseguir el vehículo, porque fingieron no poder cobrarnos el depósito de garantia. Hicimos un segundo intento sin saber que eran ellos con otro nombre y directamente nos anularon la reserva sin comunicárnoslo. Afortunadamente habíamos llamado antes por teléfono y nos evitamos un segundo encuentro muy desagradable con ellos. De aquí nos fuimos a otra compañía de las clasicas y todo fue estupendamente.

Pésima atención al cliente. Después de tener un problema con ellos con la tarjeta de crédito y no poder coger el coche, reservamos con otra compañía para el día siguiente y nuestra sorpresa fue que... eran los mismos. Atención! utilizan varias compañías con distinto nombre. Por lo ocurrido el día anterior anularon nuestra reserva sin comunicárnoslo. Son muy IMPRESENTABLES.

SCAM #1 — “Your insurance is illegal.”
I booked my rental through Expedia.co.uk, with full insurance included. Upon arrival, I was told point-blank that this insurance was “not valid for driving in Mexico” and that I would need to purchase their own overpriced in-house coverage. This was a lie — and they knew it.
It’s a classic bait-and-switch: they lure you in with low prices, then invent false legal claims to pressure you into paying extra. It’s not clumsy — it’s strategic. And it’s happening to other travelers, too.

SCAM #2 — The missing key blade and the gaslight show.
After signing the paperwork, they handed me a car key fob — but it was clearly missing the metal blade. I noticed immediately, walked to the lot, and pointed it out to the parking attendant. He looked confused and called the manager. I returned to the office.

That’s when the real scam started: the manager insisted I must have dropped the key blade on the short walk to the car — as if it had somehow fallen off in my pocket or disappeared into thin air. I told him I had just come from the counter and hadn’t even used the key yet. He shrugged and pretended to organize a search, sending staff out to “look for it,” even though we both knew he had handed me an incomplete key from the start.

It was so transparent — and so insulting. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, they flipped the blame onto me, trying to make me doubt myself over something I had noticed within seconds.

If you’re thinking of renting from Mex Rent a Car: don’t. What they offer isn’t a service — it’s a trap

Atención nefasta, cuando llegas a recoger el vehículo te dicen que el seguro contratado solo cubre daños en el vehículo, te exigen firmen una declaración de renuncia a su seguro y te exigen el pago de más del doble del coste del vehículo por un seguro básico de responsabilidad civil.

I booked through expedia, got a confirmation email that the rental had unlimited miles and paid their posted price, $86 total up front.
I arrived to pick up the car past the time to cancel and was told at the counter I had to provide proof of insurance, which I did. Because I had a $500 deductible I had to allow them to obtain a $500 deposit from my card. Once I got possession of the keys the staff told me I had a 50 mile limit (in Houston) per day. I showed her the confirmation email, it meant nothing to her. I explained I had a business appointment in New Orleans, 350 miles each way. My rental days was only for 4 days. She also told me I could NOT drive across the border. I did not plan on going to Mexico.
when I returned they informed me that the border they were talking about was the state border (Louisiana) and pointed out their fine for that was $1000. My total mileage was about 830 miles, excess mileage (anything over 50 a day was billed at 75 cents per mile.

FIRST OF ALL THIS COMPANY IS NOT AT THE AIRPORT! Also there is no shuttle from LAX to this rental car company. It is inside a hotel with no access by shuttle. The lady in front of me and I overheard the employee asking for proof of insurance so she got hers. When she got up there he said you have to purchase our insurance unless you have a major credit card. She had a master card. He said that was not a major credit card. Who has ever heard that Mastercard wasn't a major card. When I got up to the counter I had a visa but they said I had to have a declaration for my insurance. I called my insurance company they sent proof of insurance which I had to wait 10 minutes for. He looked at it and said, no that's not the declaration page. I said but it's proof of insurance. He said, no you have to purchase our insurance. So I had to spend an additional $130. The car had all kinds of exterior damage to it. Missing light covers, etc. my guess is they fill claims on the insurance they make you purchase but don't actually get the car repaired. This company is a racket. Do yourself a favor and do not rent from them. I happened upon them because Priceline recommended them. My guess is they pay so much a month to be the top advertised through Priceline.
Lastly, they do not share a shuttle with the hotel I'm sure because they do not share the expense of the shuttle for their customers so the hotel shuttle will NOT take you back to the airport.
