Terrible customer service

Unfortunately it’s not possible to give zero stars otherwise I would.
I had shares in a company and was given the opportunity to sell them or roll them over into another fund. I sent my election form back to link in the allotted time, clearly stating I wished to roll my holdings over into the new fund. I sent it by special delivery (as advised by one of their employees who said to do that as ‘we’re always losing things’), only to receive a cheque some weeks later as they had gone against my expressed instructions and sold my shares instead of rolling them over.
I phoned them asking why they’d done that and asking for the error to be rectified, I was told someone would contact me.. 2 months, numerous calls and emails later I was still waiting for a response so I contacted the liquidator for the firm who’s shares I originally held, and asked them to intervene. I have now received an email from
Link acknowledging that it was their error and that they are looking into it, but reading these reviews I have little confidence that this will be resolved quickly and to my satisfaction.
When I saw all these poor reviews I felt I just had to add my experience to these.

Appalling service and a web of misinformation

The solicitor dealing with my Mum's estate was asked by Link to provide a cheque for £118 as an indemnity for a missing share certificate. I could have obtained a replacement free of charge as the executor. A month after the cheque was sent I rang Link to be told "the cheque was made out to the wrong entity" but they had taken no action to inform us so I paid by card. Then a saga of misinformation over a period of weeks before we finally got paid.
I am going to write to the company for whom Link are the Registrars to complain and also to the Financial Ombudsman, as Link have now deferred dealing with my complaint three times now.
I will never chose to deal with them again, but in order to sell these share I had no alternative.

Contact the police

Contact the police. Don’t bother speaking to them and wasting time waiting on a premium rate number only for them to fob you off and lie. I’ll say that again LIE!
Just call the police. They have stole your money I assure you

I am experiencing some of the issues…

I am experiencing some of the issues that others have stated in their reviews about this terrible company.
Lost paperwork that has been sent by registered mail having scrolled through a lot of these reviews this is a common trend I don’t feel like I trust this company at all.
I think it’s time to escalate to the financial ombudsman they need showing up for what they are.

As bad as it gets

They do not deserve a one star they are that bad, don't answer the phone. They lose paperwork. Then tell me it will take weeks even to acknowledge paperwork I sent recorded delivery.

Then even they say they are in chaos because they have moved offices - just shocking.

Incompetent liars

We’ve been trying to redeem our late fathers SSE shares since the summer of 2019. Our late mother’s shares were handled separately by the family solicitor and took six months to redeem, but he got nowhere with our father’s shares, and I have been trying myself since February this year, paying an additional fee upfront. I received a final dividend payment earlier this month, but am still waiting for the money for the shares. This is despite ten emails from the solicitor to Link Asset (stated in one of his emails to myself), countless frustrating telephone calls by me which on average are in excess of an hour and a half and numerous forms being completed.

Excuses for the delay and other issues over the past two years have included; never ending problems with Royal Mail, staffing issues relating to Covid 19, working remotely, backlog of mail, missing death certificate, constantly being told to wait 10 days for mail to arrive (to and from them), claiming mail never arrived, being asked to wait for 10 working days to process received mail, multiple completion of some forms (have been waiting seven days for the express delivery of a document which I know I have already completed and I like the solicitor being repeatedly assured is all that’s required to complete selling the shares), constantly passed from the Bereavement, the Registrar and the Telephone Share Dealing Teams, each passing the buck. An inability to amend my correspondence address despite it being clarified in five telephone conversations. Was adamantly informed twice that a document had been sent to discover later it had never been posted. I’ve been told several times that letters will be posted by express delivery; it’s never happened. I’ve started returning mail recorded delivery, but even that is not safe as I discovered the office in Kent, given as the return address on one document, is closed and mail is being redirected to Leeds. I have made staff aware their stationery is inaccurate but, goodness knows how long it will take them to update the stationery and website. There has never been any spontaneous communication from Link Asset.

I, like everyone else who has written a review here am totally exasperated with this dreadful company.

Surely, it’s time Mr V. Bhatia the CEO starts doing his job and addresses the issues raised in all the comments written on this site and seriously reviews staffing levels, staff training / support, management supervision, the IT system and the administration process his clients endure. I will be seeking compensation via the Financial Conduct Authority, if it’s not automatically given, for the over payment of fees, distress caused by their incompetence, the hours spent on the telephone and the delay in being able to finalise our parent's estate.

I forwarded a copy of the above, as an act of courtesy to Mr Bhatia this morning via Link Asset shares enquiries email and titled it for his attention.

My wife's company use link assets for…

My wife's company use link assets for their company shares of which my Mrs sold her shares on 1st April this yr and after phone calls all lasting at least 1 hour b4 they answer then to be lied to fobbed off with we have sent your cheque.well I dont like to be lied to and am now in correspondence with our mp.i am sure they are sitting on money they tell the tax man they have paid and so are making millions on interest while not paying tax??!!! On it.do not use.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. EVER.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. SUMMARY: It has now been 16 months since I started dealing with Link Asset Services (Link Group), almost two years since my father died, and over a year of a global pandemic. I am still waiting for outstanding dividends totalling a measly 125 GBP. I am eons older.

--- THERE AND BACK AGAIN (AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN): A LINK ASSET TALE ---

- After my dad's death (Nov. 2019), I submitted the relevant paperwork (Probate, etc.) to Link Asset Services (LAS) via post on March 2, 2020.
- At the end of March 2020, I initiated contact with LAS via email to confirm they had received the documents.
- Over the next month, I was repeatedly told by LAS that they have yet to receive the documents I had sent, and additionally, they could not provide me email confirmation as to whether they had received them because, "our postal department do not have this facility." Their words, not mine.
- May 3, 2020. I emailed yet again asking for assistance and an update. I was informed that the original documents I had mailed to them were sent back to me by post on April 27 and were now registered to the relevant account.
- May 12, 2020. I receive the following from LAS: Probate and other originals, and two letters from them stating that they have included several documents for me to fill out so that I can access my father's shares. Guess what? They did not send the aforementioned documents. Additionally, the letters they sent me only referenced ONE of my father's accounts -- the one with considerably less shares in.
- May 12, 2020. I send another strongly-worded email to LAS asking for them to actually send the paperwork they said they would, and to confirm the existence of my father's second account (the one with the larger number of shares in it).
- May-July 2020: Continued email correspondence (facilitated by me, weekly) to enquire about the status of the documents. Not all of my emails receive a response.
- July-August 2020: I finally receive paperwork in the post to sell the shares owned by my late father, as originally requested.
- 17 August 2020: Cheques for my father's sold shares are released by LAS, 6 months after I first sent them the paperwork required for this. The money is promptly deposited. I assume the matter is over with. (Haha!)
- (Interlude.....)
- December 31, 2020: I receive a letter from Link Group noting there are outstanding dividends in the closed account(s). I email them in January 2021. I am told my request for the cheque to be released is being sent to the relevant department. I am also told it will take 21 working days (to write a cheque?!) NOTE: The outstanding dividends are a measly 125 GBP. I am wondering if it is even worth my time.
- I sent follow-up emails biweekly from January to May. Not all of them receive a response. The ones that do assure me my request is being handled (by WHOM?!). I start to count the wrinkles on my face, the appearance of which is no doubt being accelerated by the time lost on this company.
- March 2021: I receive ANOTHER letter advising me that there are outstanding shares. I take a photo of the letter and send it to LAS via email. I enquire why they can write and send another letter about my outstanding dividends, but not a cheque for said dividends? At 28, I am now on the cusp of owning my first grey hair.
- May 19, 2021: 5 months after I first receive notification of outstanding dividends, I receive an email from Link Group telling me I need to MAIL THEM A LETTER advising what to do with the funds. I write my letter on May 19 and promptly send it. I receive no response/confirmation that it has been received, so I begin the ordeal of sending weekly emails to LAS. Only some of these emails get a response, which is usually along the lines of, "I have forwarded your query to the relevant department and someone will be in contact shortly."
Spoiler alert: Nobody ever is.
- June 2021: I email LAS demanding that my issue be escalated to a manager. I receive a reply that someone will call me in the following week. I never receive a phone call. My subsequent (increasingly frustrated) emails continue to go unanswered.
- July 15, 2021: I receive ANOTHER LETTER from LAS dated June 30, 2021, advising me there is outstanding cash. I take a photo of this third letter and send it to LAS, expecting nothing, but hopeful that maybe something might change?

THE SAGA CONTINUES. STAY TUNED!

NEVER DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY IF YOU HAVE THE CHOICE. It is the most soul-suckingly terrible "customer service" I have ever encountered and organizations like this should be disbanded as apparently the only qualification needed to work there is: ineptitude.

Worst company I have ever and hopefully…

Worst company I have ever and hopefully ever have dealt with , communication skills are awful! Email reply’s about my own money take 5-6 weeks ! Waiting on share certificates to be reissued and getting no information back .. honestly don’t know why some of the majors use them at all !! It actually would put me off buying shares through any company if they were associated! I suppose if we don’t complain then they won’t know hence I write this .

Worst company I have ever had to deal…

Worst company I have ever had to deal with which is only because my employer uses them for their share scheme.

Every time I need something they are unable to do it. Customer service agents conveniently unable to deal with back office team which means that you have no way of knowing what is going on with any sales.

Cheques go missing which you might ordinarily give them the benefit of doubt about but a quick look on here shows that they have never been sent. Absolutely dreadful. I sympathise with people who are having to use them when dealing with a deceased's estate. Disgraceful and a report to the ombudsman is due to follow.

All I want are the proceeds of my share sale but no one will take ownership of the issue and help me. Stuck in limbo.

just awful

just awful, worst service ever! I sent them a request to transfer shares from them to my bank on the 13th January, it's the 10th of May and still nothing from them. I resent the request form on the 26/3 as per their request and my bank has been chasing them on a regular basis.

If you have a choice AVOID AVOID

Don't use these guys, I am still waiting to be paid for some shares that were sold under a SIP scheme. Appears to be a common problem. 7 weeks and counting - 2 lost cheques and a non existent BACS transfer to date. Total shambles.

I felt I had to give a truthful review on this company.
I was given 2 shares by Bournemouth Water on their share scheme.
They didn't have a great value just £20 but when I rang to ask if I could buy more, they said no and promptly sold my shares without asking me.
They say I wanted this but at no time did I ask to sell. they showed me no proof that I did . I have got no where with this and don't want to contact the ombudsman just for this.
Very dishonest I think and would steer clear !

Totally incompetent and uncommunicative

Like many other reviewers, I am dealing with a deceased's estate. I have easily dealt with all holdings where Equiniti are registrars, but months later, Link are still difficult to communicate with, do not reply, and do not return documentation. They've lost my original grant of probate and a death certificate. I can see why National Grid moved away from them and I suggest any company still using this shambolic outfit does the same

I never leave reviews but I am so utterly upset with this company that I feel obliged to add my voice to the many complaints. My father passed away in January. They managed to mistakenly send him a cheque 2 months after. It took them 3 months to decide probate would be required, this came as a shock as on four separate occasions they'd advised a small estate package was required and promised it was on its way to us. We had waited 4 weeks and made several calls to reorder the pack (amounting to an additional £30 on the phone bill due to the 0371 number), only to be told the day I was leaving the UK that probate would be required. Something I cannot arrange outside of the UK. 3 months in the UK, enough time to settle everything else with my dad's estate only for this company to 'move the goal posts' the day I was leaving. Their response when I asked for clarity, was to copy and paste the part of the letter that mentioned how to get probate. Patronising and ignorant in equal measure. At the time of writing, I've been on hold for an hour, for the second time today, as a promised call back has not materialised after waiting all day.

Awful customer service

I have been trying for over a year to sort out 1 shareholding from a deceased estate. I have lost count of the number of times they claim to have written to me but I never received a letter, or I've written to them and they "never received it". They sold my shareholding over 6 weeks ago and I still haven't received any funds. The first cheque was "lost in the post" so cancelled and re-issued. I'm still waiting for any sign of the 2nd cheque (which was requested 1 month ago). I can only imagine this is a deliberate policy to hang on to investors money, as I cannot imagine any firm being as incompetent as this shower.

Appalling

Link Asset Services are appalling to deal with. I've been trying for a couple of years now to transfer some shares from my late mother in law to my wife in accordance with her will, something that was complicated by the fact we couldn't find the share certificate and so needed a replacement.

We are still waiting. We sent them all of the information they needed and did all the forms they requested.

They have consistently said there would be no charge for this, then they said it was a free as long as we didn't need their fast service, then a letter arrived saying there was now a fee of £42 so we needed to send them a cheque for £89! No explanation at all for this.

And we're still waiting. It does of course mean that we are unable to trade shares that legally belong to my wife.

Inefficient, little or no communication or explanation, just terrible to deal with. It's exactly the kind of thing that I feel would put off small investors.

ADD: Just something for TrustPilot to think about. There are 26 reviews for this business, all of them giving one star and several of them saying they would have given no stars if they could, which I too would have done. How can that possibly give them an average of one and a half stars!

Will I ever get my money??

I own shares via my company employee share scheme. After instructing Link to sell some shares two weeks ago, I've had zero communication from them, despite several chasing emails. Where is my money? Does this company even exist? Who knows?

The worst customer service in existence

I'm afraid I can only echo the exact experiences of everyone else who has rated 1 star but would rate 0 if possible.
I have been 'dealing with' Link since January trying to finalise my Grandfathers estate.
They have so far lost original share certificates, called and left a voicemail acknowledging receipt of my letter but then denying they have them (there is a charge for new ones of course).
Promised calls have never materialised, onward referrals to managers have had no effect, and I am STILL waiting to even be able to get the small estates process in motion. The single worst experience ice ever had. Every other company I've dealth with has been excellent and true to their word. Link actually lie about what's happening.
I have sent a formal complaint by registered post and 2 weeks later I've heard nothing.
An absolute shambles, disgraceful service...but I seem to HAVE to use them for SSE shares.
Complain to everyone you can about them and prepare to be patient.
