Dubious working practices

Called them about my late fathers shares and they would not tell me what shareholdings he held. This despite fully verifying my identity.
They would if I paid for a complete search of their records! This is just an awful money making policy.
I rang Equiniti and Computershare who provided this information without any problems and for free.

In addition I sent them a letter instructing payment of outstanding dividends to an executor account. I called them after a month to be told they had no explanation why it had not yet been actioned - then had to wait another month for payment!!
Thank goodness I have transferred my holdings elsewhere, not just because their sale of executor shares is way above the cost of other brokers , but because of their incompetence and unscrupulous practices (ie their policy of tell us , not we will tell you/be helpful).

Absolute disaster of an organisation

Absolute disaster of an organisation - trying to obtain copy of company annual report & accounts since August without success, despite intervention from Diageo Secretariat. If a simple task like this cannot be achieved I dread to think what they are like with anything requiring a little bit of thought. They should be regarded as being in terminal decline

The Worst I've come across, I'm off to the Ombudsmen out of desperation!

This is the most useless customer service by way of incompetence and process I've ever come across. They've never sent me the original share certificates but charged me GBP 350 to replace them, I signed an indemnity form which they've lost. They call my mobile whilst I'm in work meetings from a private number and never leave a message, I've asked them over and over to email me a response, they've given me no outcome of where the internal investigation is! I recommend anyone using this useless group, get out while you can and on your way out, report them to the Financial Ombudsman!

I held shares in Signature Aviation…

I held shares in Signature Aviation which were taken over by Brown Bidcoe earlier this year, who in turn paid shareholders outright, through Link.
On 11th. June I received my cheque....in dollars, from Link. This is odd, as my dividends were always paid in pounds sterling and when I phoned to find out why (I was on hold for 20 mins), was told that I did not return a form stating that I wanted my payment not to be paid in dollars, but in pounds sterling. I am still waiting for that original form.
I returned my cheque (as agreed) with an IPS form sent to me after my call.
On 6th. July (after thirteen days), I phoned (again, waiting for about 20 mins) to see when I would receive my replacement cheque and was told in a few days. On 14th July ( and after almost one hour) I was told that the cheque had not been attended to and that it would be sent to Deutsche Bank to be processed and returned to Link in three weeks, with an added cost for the processing. The person during the call had a "take or leave it" attitude and basically said that there was nothing that could be done.
So far I had lost about £20 on phone bills and Link wanted to charge me for their error.
I wrote to ten of the board members, which were all signed for, adding my costs to another £20 (so far I have lost £40 and am still going to be charged a fee).
Eventually, I received an e.mail from Link, alerting me to the fact that my complaint was being seen to and would be dealt with within fifteen days.
More that fifteen days later, I received another such e.mail.
When I had received the "dollar" cheque, I had the opportunity to add the amount to another that had not been quite enough to buy a decent amount of shares in Biffa, which stood at £3 at the time. It is now £4., with no immediate signs of falling back. Dealing with this Service is proving to be quite expensive and as I am seventy six years old, wonder if Link will actually release my money while I am still living.

Rated zero if it had been possible

This must be classed as one of the most inept companies on the planet.
They take payment for a service that they never carry out.
Attempting to get a refund is met with complications, time wasting, lie after lie and a complete evasion of the issue.
Do not have any dealings with such a totally unprofessional company

Still in the stone age...

My company sharesave matured on October 1st, I instructed Link Asset Services that I wanted to keep the shares through the use of their online portal in September.

On the 18th of October I started to chase them to find out where my share certificate was. They told me the "allocation date" wasn't until the next day and that it would be a further 6-8 weeks before I would receive the certificate (From the 3rd to the 17th of December).

I don't understand how it is reasonable or even legal for them to take so long, while inhibiting me from exercising my right to sell shares that I own. Many of my colleagues have had it take 3 weeks for their share certificate to arrive, but 2 months plus is beyond the pale.

sold my shares without my permission, blamed royal mail that I didn't receive letter

After leaving a company with which I participated in a share incentive plan (SIP) in August 2021, I received a letter from Link asset services in September stating that they had sold my shares (without my knowledge)! This came as a complete surprise as my intention was to keep my shares. They claimed they had sent me a letter in the post which supposedly stated if I didn't reply within 21 days my shares would be sold. This is a lie of course. I received no letter. They blamed royal mail for it not being delivered (seems to be a common theme for this company). Although they are regulated by the FCA, it's convenient for them that their particular role as trustees for these SIPs is unregulated, meaning I can't even make a complaint to the financial ombudsman for their wrongdoing.

I'm not sure what would have incentivised them to act in this way as I'm no financial expert but they are dodgy for sure! Letters of this nature should be recorded, and reminders should be in place for those who do not respond. In a way I'm glad I now have nothing more to do with them, and relieved that I actually got the money from the sell as it seems others on here have not. Outrageous.

Complaints procedure is a joke.

Took 3 months for them to give our solicitor a simple confirmation of number of shares my late Mother in law held. Only got the information after numerous calls made by my husband. He made a formal complaint. I won't bore anyone with the details, but needless to say the complaint wasn't dealt with just numerous letters including duplicates extending the time line. Pathetic is a compliment.
We are now waiting for a transfer of the holding into my husband's name. After reading all the reviews I expect we are in for a long wait.

Profiting from the dead !
My wife passed away 8 months ago, and they still will not sell her holdings despite having all the required paperwork !
So call them and no one has the capability to help, you get promised a call back and guess what - never happens, they should be investigated and shut down

Instructed link to sell shares for me…

Instructed link to sell shares for me on the morning of the 31st August. Was told that if I sent it in the morning they would be actioned after noon the same day.
4 weeks on after numerous phone calls (every other day) 2 times they have raised to "urgent" which meant I should have gotten a response within 5 days. 2 weeks later I put a complaint in which was meant to be responded by within 2 days, 3 days later nothing.
Still in the process of trying to find out where my money is, how much it sold for and how much they are going to charge me for their "service" worst company I have ever dealt with.

Have had to complain to the Financial…

Have had to complain to the Financial Ombudsman about this company, after they sold my shares in Pennon without my knowledge or permission. They requested four weeks to deal with the matter and I'm still waiting (Sept), after they sold the shares in April!! They don't phone back, or respond to emails, shocking!!

Exceptionally bad Customer service

It took around 8 months of dealing with the "bereavement service to get shares transferred over to my elderly father. Much of this time we were waiting for forms that never arrived and the call centre were claiming had been sent. We sent letters in early January but these were ignored. A "final" letter of complaint sent 4th May was not responded to until 17th July when we did receive a call from a manager where it was explained that previous documents had been "lost", including death certificates and letters. I'd like to say it was plain sailing from this point but there was still a mix up over indemnity fees which should have been waived. We decided to pay "under protest" in the end because the department we were dealing with simply ignored our emails. Fortunately, my father has recently received new certificates in his name. No covering letters and no apologies from Link but at least we can draw a line under this episode now. My advice is not to touch this company with a bargepole!

I rang linksharedeal.com first thing this morning wanting to buy 49 Pennon Group shares. The person I spoke to in my opinion was nervous and inexperienced it took more than twenty minutes to go through the so called procedures and he told me the price was £697.84. He informed that he was not authorised to complete the deal and that within two hours his senior manager would email me with the form and then telephone me. It has not happened and therefore I am unable to purchase further shares in Pennon Group as you can not buy directly online. I am amazed at the number of British organisations that employ people who are quite simply unable to do their jobs. A very sad day for what was once a very great country of which I was very proud. We are now rapidly becoming the laughing stock of the world. I will be contacting Pennon Group directly to see what their reaction is.

I started selling my deceased parents shares on February 20/2/2021
It took three attempts for link asset to send me forms
I kept calling them and they said it was in post blaming Royal Mail.
When they received my documents it took them 2 months to acknowledge after chasing with several phone calls everyday
I have list of references from all call handlers
Nobody actually does anything at link asset
They copied two letters on one reference and denied receiving the correspondence
Kept blaming me for not paying and completing the forms
When I finallly sold the shares one month ago
Link asset promised 48 hours of turnaround in receiving the funds in my account
I am still waiting for the cheque to arrive
Their answer ‘Delay are due to the post’
If you do decide leave you review on phone please note nothing is done about it 😡
Never ever deal with this company

Dreadful and will be reported to the FSA

Appalling call waits, no confirmation of share deal and most importantly not received the proceeds (now over two weeks)
Hopeless trying to get any answers from the ill trained call handlers, impossible to speak to anyone in authority
Promised a callback a week ago (not received), chased today and was given the runaround
Fed up with wasting my time and money getting hold of MY money
Why does the FSA let these cowboys operate

Horrible

Had a share plan through the company I work for. When I opted out, I have requested for my funds to be paid directly into my bank account. My request was ignored, over one month later still haven’t received the cheque they sent or the bank transfer. Every time I call to chase up my case they keep adding time to it. Very poor way of dealing with my own money

Sold shares but no cheque

I wanted to sell some certificated shares quickly and decided to sell them via Link, the registrar. The sale went smoothly enough, although the fee they charge for selling shares is much higher than with a broker and is a percentage of the value of the shares - in my case the fee was several hundred pounds.

I expected them to send the cheque for the proceeds. Their website states that they will send it after three days. I waited but it did not arrive. I had sent them the transfer form and share certificate, so that was not the problem.

I phoned them and they said that they had not sent the cheque because they want to perform an identity check - they told me to just wait, which I did. No cheque arrived. I phoned them again and this time the story was different - now they claimed that they had sent me a letter requesting identity check information. I have not received such a letter and I suspect they never sent it. Then they sent an email requesting identity documents which have to be certified by a professional. Done that. Waiting for my cheque. I suspect that they do this to hang on to the client's money for as long as possible.
