Excellent service from LR ASSIST
Velar trouble free for twenty months. Called LR Assist for warning light. Dirk from Land Rover arrived at my home within 2 hours and diagnosed an issue which he immediately resolved. This is what I would call REMARKABLE SERVICE.
My 2019 L494 Range Rover Sport
My 2019 L494 Range Rover Sport, despite having a FSH and being cared for, had a catastrophic V6 diesel engine crankshaft, failure having covered only 25000 miles. The engine had to be replaced. The local dealership have been excellent in effecting the refit and offering their support. My issue is that, due to the low mileage I had hoped, with dealership assistance, for some goodwill from JLR to help with my resultant £20k repair bill.
Apparently any request from the dealership for goodwill is made on line…there are no numbers the dealership can call on my behalf….and the computer said NO.
My wife is in her 80’s, I am in my late 70’s and the repair bill has broken us financially. It is bitterly disappointing that this known crankshaft problem is not viewed more responsively by JLR. I have lost confidence in the robustness of this 3.0l V6 diesel engine and……JLR Company customer service.
Major engine failure on a 2020 Range…
Major engine failure on a 2020 Range Rover Velar at just 68,000 miles. Completely unacceptable for a premium vehicle.
My 2.0 Ingenium diesel engine has suffered a serious failure which is likely to result in a very substantial repair or replacement cost. A modern diesel engine in a vehicle of this price should not be failing at this mileage.
What makes this even more concerning is the volume of similar complaints from Land Rover owners involving Ingenium diesel engines, including reports of timing-chain, lubrication, oil-dilution and internal engine failures.
Land Rover has also acknowledged timing-chain defects affecting certain 2.0 Ingenium diesel engines in other markets and has operated repair campaigns. This raises obvious questions about whether similar underlying issues affect UK vehicles.
I am now formally pursuing Land Rover UK and will be asking them to explain the cause of my engine failure, whether it relates to any known Ingenium defects, and what financial contribution they intend to make towards putting this right.
For a brand that markets itself as premium, an engine failure of this magnitude at 68,000 miles is extremely disappointing. I will update this review once Land Rover has responded.
Update – 29 September 2026
I have now received a written diagnosis from an independent Jaguar Land Rover specialist confirming that the engine failure was caused by a broken timing chain, with extensive consequential damage requiring a full engine rebuild. The quoted engine repair cost is £6,600.
I have raised this with Jaguar Land Rover UK. Their position is that they will not consider any goodwill contribution unless the vehicle is transported to a JLR Approved Retailer and diagnosed again within their network.
The difficulty is that the vehicle is immobilised and I have already paid £876 for specialist recovery. Moving it again is likely to cost a similar amount, plus further diagnostic charges, and JLR has confirmed that it will not cover those costs and cannot guarantee any contribution towards the engine repair afterwards.
I have made clear that I am not refusing JLR the opportunity to inspect the vehicle. The engine has deliberately not been rebuilt and remains available for inspection. I have asked JLR to offer a practical alternative, such as inspecting the vehicle at its current location, reviewing the existing specialist evidence, or assisting with transportation.
I am now awaiting their response.
I will continue to update this review as the complaint progresses
Range Rover Evoque problems Shocking customer service from a so-called premium brand – 10 months to resolve – steer clear
I purchased a brand-new Range Rover Evoque from Stratstone Land Rover Birmingham in April 2021, expecting the quality, reliability and customer service associated with a premium brand.
Within weeks, water began entering the vehicle through the roof control panel and dripping into the cabin. I reported this to the dealership in May 2021, provided photographs and continued raising the issue over the following years.
Despite repeated reports, inspections and attempts to obtain a lasting repair, the problem was never properly resolved. The vehicle eventually broke down in May 2025 with only around 27,000 miles on the clock and had to be recovered to another Land Rover dealership.
The repair bill was huge. The matter then took a further 10 months to resolve. After speaking to a solicitor, I had to pursue the complaint through the Financial Ombudsman Service in relation to the finance provided by Black Horse before the matter was finally settled by the ombudsman.
During this period, communication was frustrating, and I felt I had to repeatedly chase for updates and push for the issue to be properly addressed. Instead of receiving clear and timely support, I was left dealing with uncertainty, delays and the practical and financial consequences of a serious problem with a vehicle I had bought new.
The offer of only 40% goodwill towards such a substantial bill was particularly disappointing. After years of problems and repeated attempts to obtain help, this fell far short of what I expected from Land Rover and a dealership representing a premium brand. The costs, disruption and stress involved were considerable, and I did not feel adequately supported.
I was also disappointed with the after-sales manager. The dealership manager had suggested that he would be helpful, but my experience was that he was not particularly supportive or effective in resolving the matter. In my opinion, he would benefit from further training in customer service, complaint handling and communication.
Although the dispute has now been settled, it took 10 months to reach that outcome, on top of the years I spent reporting and trying to resolve the original problem.
As part of the resolution, the vehicle was sent to auction to recover some of the money. It was sold to a dealer in Birmingham and, as far as I understand, is now back on the road. I hope the dealer and any future owner are made fully aware of the vehicle’s history and the problems it experienced which the new owner won’t be as I have emailed Land Rover and black horse and they don’t want anything up do with it.
I bought a premium vehicle and expected premium customer service. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.
Never again would I waste my money on a Range Rover Evoque. Based on what happened, I would urge prospective buyers to think very carefully before purchasing one, particularly if they expect Land Rover to provide effective support when serious problems arise.
The matter is now resolved, but the way it was handled has seriously damaged my confidence in Stratstone Land Rover Birmingham, Land Rover and Black Horse.
£77,000 car, full main dealer history, engine dead at 69,000 miles — Land Rover paid nothing
Bought a Range Rover Sport brand new in 2017. £77,000. Engine destroyed itself at under 70,000 miles.
Their own technician took the oil filter off and it was full of metal. Sent me photographs of my engine oil with pieces of the engine floating in it. Engine finished, £17,000 for a new one.
Then I found out THEY KNEW. Land Rover issued a bulletin to their dealers in January 2016, SSM 72578. Range Rover Sport 3.0 diesel. Loud knocking noise, metal debris in the oil, main bearing shells rotating. They thought it was serious enough to change the crankshaft tolerance over it. Eighteen months later they sold me that car for £77,000 and said NOTHING. That's not bad luck. That's a fault they already had a document about.
Contacted Jaguar Land Rover for a contribution. They didn't ask the mileage. Didn't ask the service history. Didn't ask what had failed. NEVER mentioned their own bulletin. Warranty ran out in 2020, "we would not look to review this further."
Though in the same email they admit they do usually help outside warranty, up to 4 years. So the goodwill exists. I just wasn't getting any.
And the people you deal with along the way couldn't care less. Rude on the phone, abrupt in person, promised call backs that never came. Nobody wants to know once the car's broken.
The stress and anxiety this has caused has been UNREAL. Nearly two years of chasing, ringing, emailing, getting nowhere, with a car I can't use sat on somebody's forecourt and a five figure bill hanging over me. It genuinely gets to you after a while, and not ONE person at Land Rover has cared enough to even look at it properly.
And it isn't just me having a moan. There are legal cases running against Jaguar Land Rover over this in THREE COUNTRIES. A group claim in the High Court here with more than 42,000 drivers in it, approved November 2024, over diesel particulate filters that clog up and cause ENGINE DAMAGE, with the Range Rover Sport named on the list for cars bought 2015 to 2023. That's mine. One in America, Nejat v Jaguar Land Rover North America, case 1:21-cv-14698, covering 2017 to 2021 Range Rover Sport diesels, where the lead claimant's engine failed completely and she says JLR knew long before it happened to her. And one in Australia run by Maurice Blackburn alleging oil dilution and engine wear. Plus a petition with thousands of signatures from owners of this exact engine asking for a UK recall investigation, which has never happened. Tens of thousands of people, and they're still treating every one of us like individual bad luck.
If you own one of these, GO AND CHECK IF YOU CAN JOIN. The UK one is being run by Leigh Day and Milberg, cars bought or leased 2015 to 2023. Takes five minutes to look up. Don't just sit there and take it like I did for two years.
And if you still think I'm just unlucky, look at Warrantywise's 2026 Reliability Index. The Range Rover Sport scores 21.1 OUT OF 100. Sixth worst vehicle on the entire list. Average repair bill £2,002, highest single repair they recorded £24,708. That's not me being bitter. That's the data.
I've owned a BMW in the past and the customer service and aftersales is worlds apart. And I can fully understand why people are buying Jaecoo's now, I've heard nothing but positive things about their aftersales from multiple people. Couple of people sat in the waiting area at Land Rover the other day were both saying the same thing, they're buying Jaecoo's instead.
I knew the reputation before I bought it. Everyone does. I just thought I'd be the one that got away with it. NOBODY DOES. That's the thing. Every single person I've ever spoken to who's owned one has had something go wrong, and when it does you're on your own.
Premium price, premium badge, and the second something expensive breaks they don't want to know you. DO NOT BUY ONE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Never again
Never again. Land Rover won't tell you that they have a major design fault with one of the most popular vehicles that they sell in Australia. The result is a timing chain issue which means that you will be lucky to get 10 years from the car or even less than 100,000km. For those that don't know, this means that the car is undriveable because, from Land Rover themselves, doing so risks irreversible damage to the engine. If that happens, you're up for $20k to $20k for a new engine.
The sting, all they will do is offer to investigate the issue at around 4 x the quoted price for other mechanics to perform the same work. So rather than offer to assist their "customers" who bought a dud product from them. they still plan to profit from it further.
Just remember that this is the company that you are buying a car from if you choose to go ahead and purchase a Land Rover (or a Jaguar). Nasty company from my experience.
Poor Experience at Marshall Land Rover Melton Mowbray
Booked an MOT back on 28th August for my Land Rover on 14th September along with a 1 litre oil top up and a request for the body shop to look at a scratch on the driver door. Arrived at 12.30pm (as agreed), was booked in, offered a cash wash and asked what time I would like to collect. Agreed 3pm. Returned just after 3pm to be told that there was a unforeseen backlog and my car would not be ready for 1 hour. Was told that in the meantime they would talk to the body shop and let me know about the scratch on the door. At 4.15pm I checked progress to be told it would 10 minutes. Car was returned at 4.45pm, no oil, unwashed and no comment or feedback on the scratch. Have dealt with several Land Rover dealerships in the East Midlands over the past 9 years, including Melton, and have never had such an experience. Will not recommend and will not return.
Ingenium engine lasted 40k miles, twice, before catastrophic fail.
Ingenium engine lasted 40k miles. Then the replacement died after another 40k miles and cost £18k to fix. JLR sell a product that is a financial disaster. Barge pole? Don't touch.
Disappointed with premium quality & service — brand new Evoque PHEV
I bought a brand new Range Rover Evoque Plug-In Hybrid last year — this is my 7th brand new car, so I know what to expect from a premium brand. Right from delivery, the seat covers arrived with deep wrinkles and creases across the seats. With under 2,000 miles on the clock, the seats already look like they belong in a 10-year-old vehicle — completely unacceptable for a premium car.
I have been trying to resolve this for a long time. All I get is endless appointments, excuses, and no real progress. Nobody takes ownership, nobody calls back, and nobody at Land Rover UK or the dealership is actually helping me. In this price bracket and premium segment, this level of build quality and customer support is simply shocking.
I expected luxury, durability, and aftersales care — instead I’ve been met with silence and poor quality. Very disappointed.
Great
We had vicky. Lovely customer service could answer all the questions other places couldn’t, great knowledge. Thank you so much!
ONE OF THE WORST VEHICLE OWNERSHIP…
ONE OF THE WORST VEHICLE OWNERSHIP EXPERIENCES I HAVE EVER HAD
I genuinely regret buying this JLR.
This is quite simply the most horrible vehicle I have ever driven and owned. The experience has been extremely stressful, expensive and, most importantly, deeply disappointing.
The major issue I have experienced is the timing-chain failure. I have evidence relating to the failure, I have personally experienced the consequences, and I have also become aware of numerous other owners reporting similar timing-chain problems.
Based on my own experience and the evidence I have seen, I find it extremely difficult to understand how customers are expected to have confidence in these engines when such a serious component can fail and potentially result in catastrophic engine damage and thousands of pounds in repair costs.
In my opinion, JLR should be doing far more to investigate and address this issue. If a manufacturer is aware of a recurring safety or reliability concern affecting a significant number of vehicles, I believe customers deserve transparency and appropriate action rather than being left to deal with the consequences individually.
JLR CUSTOMER SERVICE – EQUALLY DISAPPOINTING
Unfortunately, the problems did not stop with the vehicle.
The customer service I have received has been absolutely appalling.
After spending thousands of pounds on what is supposed to be a premium vehicle, I expected a premium level of customer support. Instead, I have found the complaints and escalation process incredibly difficult to navigate.
There should be a clear and effective process for customers experiencing serious mechanical failures. In my experience, there simply has not been an adequate level of support or accountability.
What makes this even more frustrating is that this is not a minor cosmetic issue. We are talking about a major engine-related failure with potentially significant financial consequences.
Customers should not have to fight this hard simply to have a serious complaint properly acknowledged and investigated.
WOULD I BUY ANOTHER JLR?
Absolutely not.
Would I recommend this vehicle to someone else?
Absolutely not.
I have completely lost confidence in the vehicle and, based on my experience, in the level of customer support provided by JLR.
JLR markets itself as a premium manufacturer. In my view, a premium manufacturer should provide premium engineering, reliability and customer service.
My experience has fallen dramatically short of that expectation.
I believe JLR needs to seriously examine how it deals with recurring mechanical problems and how it treats customers when those problems occur.
People spend their hard-earned money on these vehicles trusting the manufacturer. That trust should not disappear the moment something goes wrong.
I am sharing this review because other potential customers deserve to research these issues carefully before making a significant financial commitment.
This has been an extremely expensive, stressful and disappointing experience, and I would strongly advise anyone considering one of these vehicles to do their research into timing-chain issues and JLR's customer-support process before buying.
JLR should be ashamed of the experience I have had as a customer.
And funny enough they don't have a complaint procedure so you'd deal with with that crap car!!
Land Rover Defender delivered in March
Land Rover Defender delivered in March, it broke down with a complete failure having no power to drive, steer or break becoming a hazard in the middle of the road.
Repaired by Land Rover Conwy and returned. Same thing happened again the next day.
Vehicle still being repaired by Land Rover Stockport.
Land Rover not interested they have supplied a death trap having completely failed twice.
Look good but they are unreliable and unsafe!.
I've had 5 Land Rovers / Range Rovers all leased new with only minor issues. I will never have another if you want a safe reliable car get anything but a Land Rover!
Land Rover Approved Used at Southeast…
Land Rover Approved Used at Southeast Motors Land Rover Brighton
How can this dealership be allowed to sell Approved Used Land Rovers that either haven’t been inspected correctly or they have blatantly lied on official paperwork?
We bought a 2020 Range Rover Sport Autobiography on Wednesday 26/08/2026. We flew down from Scotland to collect the car and on collection of the car we noticed damage on the offside rear quarter panel that wasn’t on the online images. We agreed to accept the car on the premise that we could have the vehicle fixed at a local bodyshop in Scotland.
When we got the vehicle back to Scotland we noticed that there was sign of poorly repaired previous damage on the car.
When our local bodyshop carried out a visual inspection of the vehicle they reported that this vehicle had been involved in a major rear end shunt and has been poorly repaired.
Plastic panels with tool marks, panels not fitted correctly. A space between the bumper one the boot floor on the offside of the boot where you can fit your finger in. The rear tail gate is totally misaligned with the quarter panel.
The electric tail-lift is struggling to raise the boot lid. Behind the bumper the cables have been cable tied, have Land Rover started tidying cables using cable ties to store cable.
This vehicle was sold by this dealership as Land Rover Approved. My question to your dealership is who inspected this vehicle? Because this should never have made it through an approved used inspection.
When we got home, and the car was warm on pull off we noticed a load bang on pull off, either an issue with the transfer box or the differential we believe.
I offered the dealership a chance to make this right and cancel my finance, or replace our vehicle with a suitable vehicle. However they have offered me a lower spec Land Rover and want me to pay £1500 more to change the car out.
We have requested the detailed approved used Land Rover inspection documents. Because whoever inspected this vehicle is either absolutely corrupt or they are totally inept.
Tomorrow we will book a full mechanical and damage inspection from Lairds Assessors before we return this car to Land Rover Brighton. As well as getting a full MOT of this vehicle. As we cannot trust anything that this establishment puts to paper. We will be sending our findings to Land Rover Uk, FCA, Trading Standards, The DVSA as I firmly believe that all inspections and the MOT have been either negligent or in favour of the garage.
Someone’s head need to roll for this, Southeast Motors Land Rover Brighton are a massive let down and I believe they have sold me a vehicle that hasn’t been properly inspected. Please note the initial bodyshop quote to fix the paint correctly and the small piece of damage we noted on the car on collection is already estimated at £3800, which after a full inspection I fully expect to run into the tens of thousands.
Sehr zufrieden
Hallo,
“Buy a Range Rover for vanity not for sanity”
“Buy a Range Rover for vanity, not for sanity.” Unfortunately, after my experience, that saying rings very true.
If you are considering buying a Range Rover, I would strongly recommend thinking again.
I have owned mine for around six months and it has spent more than half of that time in the garage.
It went into Stratstone Milton Keynes on 27th May for what was supposed to be a one-day job. It is now the end of August, over three months later, and I still don’t even have a confirmed date for when I will get my vehicle back.
It has been issue after issue after issue. Every time you think you are getting somewhere, something else seems to go wrong or another delay appears.
This isn’t a cheap vehicle. You buy a Range Rover Sport expecting a premium product and a premium ownership experience. Instead, I have spent more than half of my ownership without the vehicle.
Three months to deal with something originally booked in for one day — and still no confirmed return date — is frankly ridiculous.
So, to anyone reading reviews because you’re thinking about buying a Range Rover: DON’T.
However good they look and however nice they are when they’re working, none of that matters when the vehicle spends months sitting at a dealership.
“Buy a Range Rover for vanity, not for sanity.” I wish I’d listened.
I certainly won’t be buying another Range Rover and as soon as I get it back I’ll be selling it whilst losing roughly £5,000 worth of depreciation from it just sitting in the garage.
I will update this review when I eventually get the vehicle back with the final amount of time it spent off the road.
Massive claim incoming.
Bonjour
Bonjour
