Terrible. Do not use this company!!! They are not a UK company, so goods are subject to duties. They withhold information and refuse to give money back. They are a complete con who will be as dishonest as possible. What a disgrace

After reading a few reviews I thought I'd risk ordering something from this website. No issues at all. Item turned up in a few days from Germany.

Despite a lot of bad reviews i can only praise this company. I ordered an incorrect item in error on the 16/12 so sent email explaining this. I received an email response on the 19/12 and a full refund on the 21/12. I will no problem ordering from them in the future. Great customer experience

I am assuming this is a scam site please BEWARE.
1. It's a German company based in Germany with no UK presence.
2. After you pay for your item, you will hear nothing until you are asked to pay even more money to 'clear customs'
3. If you don't pay the additional costs that you were never made aware of and cancel your order, you will get nothing. No refund and no item.

I order my item and paid for it in September. 1 month later I queried where the item was, only to be told it was waiting clearance at customs and I had to pay the charge to have it released.
I also had to make sure I provided sufficient proof to be able to claim back this cost from illumminations (the German company).

I decided not to as I felt like I was being scammed so requested to cancel the item. I was told it is not possible to refund me any money until they get their item back. It is now November and I have heard nothing from the company and get no contact. I am out by £200.

Please don't buy from this company. They know what they are doing and will take your money and run. I will try the small claims court but being a German company I don't think I have a chance.

The proof was in the cost - if it's cheap you can be sure that it will be the work of shoddy Chinese workmanship is at hand regardless of the fact that the company is based in Germany. I bought two large LED ceiling lights - neither made more than a year before they broke down. I did get refunds for both in the form of identical replacements and guess what happened? They barely lasted more than a year between them ! If you insist on buying lights cheaply probably get ones which require lightbulbs as they might be more hard wearing - certainly avoid a company as poor as this especially LED lights.

Terrible. Do not use this company!!! They are not a UK company, so goods are subject to duties, their phone number does not work, and despite ordering for delivery to an address other than billing address, once the goods are at customs, they refuse to deliver to the right address. Hours on hold, frustrating and waste of time and money!!!!!

Warning, this online shop isn't based in UK. It is actually based in Germany which, due to Brexit, is a bit of pain. Apart from short delay with the delivery (less than 2 weeks), and paying import tax (which was refunded by the company) my overall experience is positive and I would recommend to buy from this shop if you find a light that you really want and you can't find it anywhere else in UK. I couldn't call them when I had questions (phone nr didn't work) but they have always replied to my emails, usually on the next day. Apart from the logistics the quality of the products are as they should be. I have bought 4 different types of lighting, all very sturdy, looking amazing and very unique. I will buy again from them if I want a specific lighting.

Like many other reviewers here, I realised that this company was not actually based in the UK only once I had placed my order. However, my experience has been very good, despite feeling duped.

I ordered lighting on 4 April 2022, and received confirmation that day. Shipping information became available the next day and I was able to track online - this is what alerted me to my shipment originating from Germany. By 8 April, my shipment was in the UK. It was then stuck in customs for several days. (I imagine Easter weekend created a small delay). A letter from ParcelForce was received about customs import duties payable on 16 April. This was paid immediately online and I was able to schedule a new delivery date. Could have had it by 19 April, but opted for the 22 April. Arrived as scheduled, and lights were installed that day.

In the meantime, I had looked again at the illumination.co.uk policy on their website and found the FAQ that said to email them my customs payment receipt for that to be reimbursed. It was, a few days later.

So it took just under 3 weeks from order to installation for me, and I incurred no additional costs due to import.

I only have two issues.

1) Due to my package going through customs - they opened it up. This meant that some of the protective packaging on my lights had been dislodged/removed. Thankfully no breakage or damage for me, but I could see how this would cause problems in some instances.

2) Being misled by this company is enough for me to not use them again. Everything on the website is designed to lead consumers to believe the company is UK based. The same goes for several other online lighting .co.uk companies that seem to use suspiciously similar approaches. I do have some sympathy that pre-Brexit such a company wouldn't have had any issues with their model (in fact, many customers would have been blissfully ignorant of the company location). But the fact is, the company misleads people to secure its sales. It worked out for me, but if something went wrong they are outside UK consumer law, so there is limited recourse.

Use with caution.

Absolutely disgusted, ILLUMINATiONS UK are in Germany, I have just had to pay £60.60 custom charges!

Stupidly as they are called Illuminations UK I thought that where my lights were coming from! Currently according to the track and trace my lights are awaiting customs clearance ie money! I have emailed Illuminations UK and surprise surprise no response!
AVOID AVOID AVOID. Going to contact my bank to try and cancel payment.

Great customer service in spite of I bought 4 years ago in 2018 and 2 off 11 lamps LED stop function they send me return label. I returned the 2 defect lamps and short time after I received 2 brand new. so I am very happy of the service and it seems to be a very proffessional company.

Does anyone have a phone number for this company? Trying to return a product but no response to emails. Actually it’s not an email, it’s a form. Help gratefully received!!

I ordered then read these reviews so I contacted the company, they couldn't be more helpful they assured me I wouldn't have any custom charges as my order was under £135.00 I was going to cancel but went ahead was told when my order was dispatched from Germany it went by DHL then once in the UK was tracked by The Post Office. The lights have arrived safely, well packaged and the lights are fantastic quality really pleased with my purchase and their service. 😊

So annoyed with myself that I didn’t read all these reviews before purchasing my lamps and having to go through all this grief!

The lamps come from Germany and got stuck at customs. I had to pay £50 to receive them, which the company did refund me, but obviously a real pain. When it came, the lamp had damage and the description online says it’s adjustable, but it isn’t. They insist on returning the item before any refund is even considered and given all the hassle with receiving it, this is undesirable and I have no confidence I’ll receive any refund.

Communication with the company is all via email and they take days to reply. Seriously avoid this company and save yourself the grief!

Given they charge premium prices, it’s not a premium product or service.

I ordered from this site and had to pay extra import charges - this is not what i was expecting from a .co.uk site !!! and then when i finally received it, it was the wrong product they told me the product i ordered was now out of stock - (yet i could still see it available to add to my basket on-line ) - they told me to return the product and they would refund me after they had checked the returned product and this could take up to 10 days after they receive the returned product and to reorder a replacement myself off the website. so they are not willing to help sort a replacement and I would be out of pocket further while awaiting a refund !!! shocking customer service no help at all - my last email from them states they will check the product before they allow my refund!! I wouldn't be returning the product if they had sent the right item in the first place - after reading the reviews I'm even more doubtful i will get any refund back.

So as far as I am concerned its a totally UK sourced transaction. 13th December I receive a letter to pay import duties of circa 20% value of goods!!
Not a chance! - In 20 days time, the parcel will be returned to supplier. We will see what happens then!!
Also they will not answer their telephone!

Ordered a lamp and lightbulb from this German company. Bulb failed within days, but when reported it was faulty, was told bulbs do not have a warranty so tough! Strongly advise not to risk ordering from this company, as the customer service response was slow and negative. Also packaging was poor, so high chance of damage.

I've just made an order with this company. I've just received an invoice from Parcelforce for import Vat/Customs Duty and Clearance fees which is a an additional 25% of the original cost. I had no idea that I was ordering from a German company. There was no warning during the ordering process that these fees could be incurred yet it is obviously a common problem having now looked at other peoples reviews.

I am an Accountant and know when I am being messed around, and, my advice is you avoid this company like Covid. You will be asked to pay extra Vat & Duty once the items arrive. They are clearly not UK based and the phone number listed does not even work. I will be seeking compensation through my credit card

I am very surprised to see so many negative reviews as I had a very good experience with this company. I bought two lights for the kitchen about a year ago (Sept 2020) which are both amazing quality and shipping was very quick - they came within a week from Germany. I also bought lights for my bathroom recently - this was delivered within 3 days! The lights were amazing but unfortunately they just looked too big for the space (my fault - didn't really think about the dimensions). I emailed the company and was refunded within 2 days (didn't even have to send the lights back) - amazing customer service. There were no customs fees and the delivery fee was as advertised. I will probably be buying all the lights for the rest of the rooms from them as they have really good looking lights, huge selection, and they are made with good quality materials (at least the mid-higher range lights - I can't comment on the cheapest ones as never bought any of those). Yes they are based in Germany - but have you heard the term "German quality" before? If they did have some issues during the pandemic with shipping etc., as many companies did, they seem to have resolved them. If you are having doubts, I would suggest that you give them a chance and pay via Paypal, so if there are any issues, you can make a claim and get refunded easily. And for goodness sake - do not book an electrician before actually receiving the lights - why would anyone do that?
