Absolutely horrendous customer service! You have to wait about 90-12” minutes if you’re lucky just for a customer service agent to come onto the suppprt chat - that’s only to move down 15 positions.

And they remove your listings that violate their policies without referring you to exactly what has been violated!!! Yet everyone else is listing these exact same items.

I’m done with gumtree now! Customer service is everything and this is just appalling!

Since the 7th of May I can't access the Gumtree web page while using an ad blocker in Firefox. It just won't work. I can't even log in.
Now I'm forced to watch all these very distracting flashing external ads while trying to find items in the listings. It drives me nuts. The search keeps changing back to most relevant when I set it to most recent, even when i just go to the next page. I keep getting listings now that are months old when I just want the most recent when I do a search.
It won't save my location any more. They removed date of listing on main search page.
Repeated listings, Lots of glitches and sign in problems. Notifications only work ocasionally,
Don't get me started on the amount of time wasters and scammers.
I've been using Gumtree for years but now it's just a nightmare and I won't be using it again. Forced external ads in my browser has done it for me, thats it.
The phone App is even worse and unusable.

Very poor customer service. They are stole my money and removed my advert for no reason. In my opinion they are scamming. Watch yourself.

Do not use the delivery and payment service, they first said that it would be paid in to my account in 48hrs after delivery if the buyer does not contact to confirm receipt of the item, 48hrs later the in app info changes to 'when the buyer confirms the item' I do not have the money!

Gumtree is a pain in the neck. I want to receive only messages from potential buyers and not Gumtree promotional offers and other rubbish they keep messaging me. I've already clicked off the Gumtree button to stop Gumtree from harassing me but still there silly messages keep coming through. I'm seriously thinking of closing this account down and selling my items on Ebay just to stop Gumtree harassment.

Second time selling on Gumtree. Paid to bump up and featured my ad and they didn't do any of the above but still took my money. Its absolutely impossible to get hold of help from customer service. The company literally stole my money and didn't complete my request.

Scammers scammer’s I tried to sell my car on there. Had one man come to view the car said it was for his daughter..🧒 she just passed her test. Said he didn’t want to purchase it there and then said he would be back tomorrow. Didn’t hear from him. So I said to myself time waister.next morning another message on gumtree saying I’m looking for a car for my sister. He told me his going to see a few cars and would contact me. Then the next message comes through saying do you have a number I can call. So I gave him the next thing a woman 👩 is ringing saying you spoke to my brother she was talking so fast asking to come now to see it’ my gut instinct said something is not right here. I believe the man who come to visit the car saying. It was for his daughter was working with the other two. So if you get the same thing happen to you it’s a scammer all Woking together. My advice don’t sell on GUMTREE

Website is unbelievably slow at loading, buggy, and puts an enormous load on my PC - and I have 128gb of RAM to play with. It's actually pathetic how useless your developers are.

Gumtree want to be ashamed of them self's for letting the same sellers keep breeding there dogs for puppy's.

I had a really positive experience using Gumtree for local second-hand shopping. The site is easy to use, and I managed to find exactly what I was looking for in a short time. Communication with sellers was smooth, and arranging local pickup was simple.

After over 10 years using Gumtree, I’ve finally given up — the platform has become completely unusable.

I tried listing a simple, legitimate item — a brand new dolls house from Hobbycraft — and it was removed repeatedly for supposedly “breaking rules.” Each time, I was told an email had been sent explaining the issue, yet not a single email was ever received. No explanation, no transparency, just automated removals with zero accountability.

There’s clearly an over-reliance on broken automated systems that flag perfectly normal listings, while genuine users are left guessing what they’ve done wrong. Without proper communication or support, it’s impossible to use the platform properly.

I’ve now deactivated my account because there is simply no point. A selling site that doesn’t allow you to sell — and won’t even tell you why — is a waste of time. Avoid.

I now refer to it as Scumtree.

Discovered Gumtree back in 2005 and found it used to be a good site but has gone downhill over the years.

I have noticed in recent years that hardly anyone responds to ads anymore (despite you leaving a contact number as well) and pricing my items very fairly (in my case bikes) and making your ad honest and in detail.

On the rare occasion you do get a response, it is always one of those 'is this available?' messages via the site (rather than them calling/texting you) and what I find with these kind of messages is that when you reply with a 'yes it is', nine times out of ten they don't reply back - What is that all about ??

If you do get a call on your phone, it is always one of those cold calls from someone (usually with an Indian/Pakistani accent asking about your 'recent motoring accident' (which you never even had) so clearly they get your number via Gumtree.

Site is now an absolute waste of time and clearly the only people who use it now are sad timewasters with nothing better to do, deluded morons/chavs who want something for nothing, people selling dodgy items or even scammers.

Seems Ebay is the only way these days.

Terrible place to sell anything. Always strange people messaging you late at night with " is this still available " . When you reply most don't answer or offer £2 for something listed at £20 etc. More time wasters than genuine people. Have sold things on there eventually but have to put up with the time wasters.

Generally works well with good penetration and views of ads posted. Not as advanced as Facebook in that you can't see if ads have been favourited which would give you an idea of how effective the ad is. Also, ads posted over listing pictures often obscures the content, surely there must be a way of making the advert separate from the listing image?? Also, a buyer shouldn't be able to negatively rate a seller just after a few lines of messaging and they haven't even bought the item! I had a guy gave me one star because I didn't accept his low ball offer for a car I was selling! I wrote to Gumtree to ask that the 1 star be removed, no response, pretty poor customer service, sorry, none and it's sellers that drive the views, no items for sale equals no site traffic. I'd recommend a board member or two do the customer journey and buy/sell a few items each month, I bet that's never done. Being locked out of the app when we toggle between family member accounts is intensely frustrating.

Mostly people selling stolen items and or they just don't respond if you make an offer and it's even £5 under for a 50+ items just for people wanting to be scammed if I'm honest. Unfortunately iv had my identity stolen possible from contact with someone on this site

I posted 3 times in the past week… 2 times they removed it within 2 minutes after posting , 1 time they removed after 24 hours after posting… all 3 times saying add its not in the right category or something like that…. I post add with them for 15 years I know what i am doing !!!
They charge all 3 times and no refund whatsoever
They don’t care…. They take your money and don’t give a s…..
Appalling behaviour

The upgraded version of the Gumtree app no longer shows notifications for new listings for saved searches and I never receive any notifications for messages so I have to check the app or my emails repeatedly. I have used Gumtree since 2012 but no longer will I be wasting my time! It seems that the app could not have been rigorously tested

Despite being in Northern Ireland Gumtree very kindly return searches for stuff in Scotland. This makes the site practically unusable having to sift through items that aren't even in this country! Have reported this before but just get blah, blah, blah from customer service.

This is the worst place to sell & the worst company to deal with i have been registered with Gumtree for over 12 years not anymore its a joke now can not speck with anyone about my account also have sent emails / messages to there ceo Mr Harper with no response at all please dont bother with Gumtree when there is better places to sell your unwanted items.

As an employer looking to recruit employee I paid £18 to list the job I was advertising. Gumtree didn't hesitate to take the payment. But the job never got listed. Instead I just have a screen that says my listing is in a queue. It has been that way for some time now. I have even emailed gumtree multiple times telling them to refund my money. But they have never replied. Dont pay to advertise on gumtree. It's a complete scam
