Well I live right besides a cross road on Sherburn hill - constant car crashes and I seen it on bbc 1 news tonight. The response from the council is a disgrace and I would argue factually incorrect- just boils down to money and the fact they would rather spend it on them selves than the people there supposed to actually work for!

Why do I have to go into debt before I can change the date to pay my council tax
The council notified me by SMS regarding a problem with my council tax bill but they sent it to another mobile number.
I paid my last payment in March this year for my council tax and they credited my new council tax bill with the payment leaving me in debt for march.
I was told they notified me by SMS and post before I recieved my summons, so they sent notifications to another mobile, and I recieved no notifications by post they must have sent it by carrier pigeon, but I did recieve my summons with the extra costs, and it in the paper work with the summons option 3 to arrange a payment plan, so I did and they rejected it.
So I can only presume that the council need more money for there hanging baskets and payment for sombody to water them seven days a week.

The worst Highways department in the country! Absolute numbskulls. Spend a fortune making so called roundabout improvements only to find it makes things much worse! Where do they get these clowns from!

Horrible useless council and staff. They pass you from one to the other and no one helps you. Their errors made me to be street homless, then when I was street homless they refussed to help me any. They told me ad I wa knew to the area ,they wouldn't fo anything for me. A few months later after I slept on the streets or in most cases didn't sleep for days, they had the nerve to email me and ask if i still wanted to be on the council list. My reply was you told me to go away and you weren't helping me any. Horrible Horrible people and council . Overpaid and useless.

Absolute spackers! Never in my life have I had to deal with such a big bunch of thick useless incompetant monkeys. These people are useless, how they get by in day to day life is beyond me. Well what goes around comes around, i pay my tax and get nothing back, my bin will be emptied on the council office doorstep now

Reported my damage refuge bin on the 5/7/24 that had been sliced by the bin wagon, 8/8/24 spoke again with a lady called Patsy who spoke with a lady in the back office called Michelle who said she would override the team leader and get a new bin out for delivery within a week. 16/8/24 Spoke again with the council a lady called Racheal who basically tried to fob me off.said she would get a manager to ring me. How hard can it be to get a replacement bin when it’s been damaged by the bin wagon.

Saddened by the continual deterioration of a once beautiful city. The state of the roads is appalling. It's like off roading in the city centre and surrounding villages. Council tax continues to shoot up yet they do less and less, blaming it on adult social care. The city centre itself is an absolute dump. Garbage lines the streets, all the shops are closing as no one can afford the rates, the streets are lined with the scum of the earth hanging around and drinking and drug taking is rife. Little to no police presence yet we are having to pay for a crime commissioner. Lawless by definition. Business owners around north road and the market place are fearful of all the drunken beggars hanging around swearing at passers by, spitting in the streets and fighting with one another. The city is a pitiful shadow of what it once was and it all comes down to financial greed and bad planning.
They close things associated with our heritage such as the DLI museum to "save" money yet where is the saving. They let the building deteriorate over years and are now spending money on doing it up again.
The only thing they seem to want to do is to appease the Univeristy who's mission is to take over the city and have construction works constantly blotting the landscape with no end date in sight. Buildings sit dormant such as the new premier inn and brewdog due to planning blips and the city remains in a constant state of limbo, financial ruin and at the mercy of the scum who seem to rule the city centre streets. North road is often likened to the wild west and the bus station despite being brand new (another planning fail that took years to complete) has to be amongst one of the roughest in the country.
Absolutely awful experience and shameful management.

Durham county Council is the worst Council iv been in . Iv lived here for 2 years & the services are rubbish. I suffer from mental health & have been in contact with police , mental health service with no real help . I have noticed a high number of suicides happening in the durham area . I feel I will b failed by this broken system & b next . Don't move to Durham .

Durham County Council is an absolute joke, waste collectors, bone idle, telephone staff a waste of space, robbing council tax and not doing your job, complete joke, the sooner you lot are voted out the better

Trying to locate the DLI V. C’s so a family descendant can view the one his ancestor was awarded , where are they on display now , the web site does not help and I trying to email just comes up with action timed out ☹️

They refused to empty my bin because of a banana peel inside it. Food! I watch the binmen drop litter all over the place when emptying the bin and they do not pick it up. One rule for us and none for them! A Council that is not recommended by its people. They should pack it in and give another company the jibs they cannot do! They will not inform me how much they take from my council take to empty my bins.

NW29 John Smith responded to a stray dog call (my dog) he returned the dog, a rather large labrador, in the street to a 12 year old child despite my partner asking him on the phone to give it to her son who could handle the dog.
When I complained that it was unsafe to give such a large dog to a child he denied doing it and said he returned the dog to an 'adult member of the public'. He even went as far as writing that lie in a witness statement for court, basically perjuring himself although it never went to court, luckily for him.
Durham have consistently lied about these events and subsequent issues I had regarding it.
The blatant disregard for their own complaints policies is unbelievable.
They updated the wording of their website after I complained and then claimed it was done 3 month earlier despite me having a digitally dated screenshot of the website. They have now admitted this was a lie , sorry 'honest mistake', but then repeated the lie in a freedom of information request and are now been investigated by the ICO for it.
Unfortunatly for the good honest neighbourhood wardens out there, NW John Smith along with his bosses Mr Lancaster and Mr Ferguson are destroying the integrity of the department by not admitting their failings and preferring to hide behind lies and technicalities.

DCC just don't listen.
They do not acknowledge when you repeatedly give them correct information
I've received every year at least 4 letters ( usually on the same day ) each with between 4-6 sheets of the
same useless repetitive
information
Once again correct info given by .e via email then I receive phone calls on the reason I'm asking for a benefit claim !!!
Followed by more useless information !!
And ....it appears they've got it wrong again !! Really all this money we pay for a really poor service

Useless! What is the point of these overpaid useless roles?

Fobbed off constantly with political red tape BS, just do your job and stop excusing your less than poor service. Country and County going down the pan

Staffed by clowns from top to bottom, from bins not being emptied (4 times) to pot holes bodged, to raising the C tax by a max every year to pay for the ineptitude.
Today was topped by a call to births deaths marriages, for the third time in a week. Where I was again told that nothing had been sent over from the coroner yet. I asked could they look into it as it was nearly 2 weeks. The nice person did and hey ho, it's there and with a note to wait until the family called you? Why when I was a) told that DCC would call me back and not to keep calling and b) I have called twice this week and once last week so why wasnt this note picked up.

Zero stars would be generous for this council. I wrongly got issued a fine for a property I had sold 6 months before the illegal waste disposal offence. I showed them the proof that I didn't even own the property and asked them to sort it out and send the fine to the new owner, but they flatly refused and told me to sort it out with the court. I was contacted by a solicitor with the name James Langley and I don't know if he issued the fine in the first place, but he contacted me. He didn't want to listen to reason, ignored the proof I sent him and didn't even want to give me the case number. And here I thought that it was a solicitor's job to uphold the law. He knows I'm innocent, yet chose to ignore it. That says a lot about someone's ethical standards. In the end, the court told me that they would need to speak to the council anyway to get this sorted. Good luck to anyone who has to deal with this council. I can definitely understand all the bad reviews on here.

Awful experience with multiple departments following the death of a loved one. Every other organisation, even government organisations, have been great but DCC have been disgusting. Made the process of burial/sorting estate as difficult as possible. Refused to provide information to the NOK/Exec, hiding behind jargon and then not accepting responsibility when wrong information has been provided. They also demanded information that they were legally not entitled to before they would issue a refund for an overpayment.
The most expensive council in the area for Ctax yet offers very little service and when you do manage to actually speak to someone, they fob you off with false promises and jargon.
As a former employee of another local authority, I would be disgusted if I was dealing with people the way that DCC do. I would not recommend that anyone live in any area controlled by DCC.

Recently had to sign up to their bin collection so they are supposed to collect it and return it etc. However they have been constantly missing my bin collections and they not only missed my household waste bin last week just before Christmas but they also missed my recycling collection this week shortly after Christmas. Both bins are scheduled for collection by them from my outdoor storage area which has unlimited access for them every day of the week so there's absolutely no excuse for their lack of competence and it's beginning to feel like the bin collection team is either new or just can't be bothered to actually do what has been asked of them. If you want to discuss anything with regards to benefits or money from work or even just general enquiries etc, the female staff on the phone are incredibly rude, condescending, and entitled. Why does it seem to be that they are always miserable? Literally every time I ever phone them which thankfully until recently isn't that often, it's like any problem you have makes their day a living h*ll and I really don't care if you have abusive customers because even though they state on the phone that any abuse won't be tolerated and that you will be reported, somehow they make it easy for their staff to be abusive and difficult to report such ignorant and nasty scum.

They suppose to keep families together but rip them apart with there lies. My grandson went to care and they keep him there and make lies up and twisting words. Chloe Macalister is the social worker who twisted my words. I am the grandmother. Every section of the report was fabricated. She done the same to my daughter. My grandson complained about his foster mother and I told Chloe. Now the get rid of my grandsons confidence twisting his words. The foster mother Yasmin keeps him a prisoner. He is 11 and it not allowed out or play with friends. He is lonely. She is just out for the money. She does not interact with him. He is all day in his bedroom on his Nintendo switch with just 2 games. Not allowed the Xbox as he is not allowed to interact with other kids. He has been told the area is to rough, but after I complained, now is to to rough with other kids but he can play with her grandkids. She should not look after kids as she is to old too. To lazy to bring him to school or the center. He comes in a taxi. Chloe Macalister and Yasmin should be struck off. This will go further to ombudsment and local councillor. My grandson is already harming himself and cries for us. But social service are cold and heartless
