Unpleasant experience

I would strongly suggest avoiding Data Energy if you have a choice. I am unfortunately, in an apartment building where my developers build communal boilers, and by default my broker for energy is data energy meaning that unfortunately I have to be on a pay as you go scheme. Being on a pair as you go scheme, you are put on a very high tariff with a daily hefty standing charge. Data energy has a very unreliable customer service. Numerous times I have tried contacting them to get clarification on issues with my usage. I am being charged very unpredictable payments each week and I don’t think my usage metre is correct however they refuse to listen to me and help me. This is extremely frustrating as my heating system hasn’t changed and I always have the same temperature ambiance going on so it’s extremely confusing having to pay various different payments each week. I have requested for this to be reviewed further as recently there were issue with building boilers and I was paying for service that we did not have access to however they have not looked into this ticket that has been pending for nearly 2 weeks. I don’t know if I’m getting a response from an AI agent agent or a real human agent that keeps saying my ticket is on pause and someone will get back to it eventually. Therefore, in summary, I would highly suggest avoiding data energy unless you want headaches, expensive, tariffs, and unreliable customer service.

Please note that we are not a broker or supplier but rather the appointed metering and billing agent.

Having Data Energy as a metering and billing agent does not automatically mean that you are in a Pay as you go (PAYG) set up. This billing set up is defined by the building owner/freeholder, through the managing agents of the development.

The tariff's calculation is done as accurately as possible, and it's never applied to a development without the managing agent's approval (working on behalf of the building owner/freeholder who is ultimately the supplier).

As a 3rd party metering and billing agent we do not own any of the equipment on site and for this reason any potential issues with this must be raised with our client and any other parties required to help resolve the matter. We cannot deliberately conduct investigations or reparations, what we can do is raise matters to the relevant parties to ensure that they are aware of the issues, assist where and when possible and chase for updates so that we can provide them to residents.

We can confirm that your case has been and is being handled by a member of our customer care team; they raised your concerns and all pertinent information to the relevant department who has been in touch with our client and from whom we are awaiting further information. Your ticket has been placed on hold to ensure this does not close whilst the matter is not resolved. You can rest assured that and we’ll continue to chase this on your behalf and that we'll keep you updated as soon as new information is available via the ongoing ticket.

No consumption data being received by…

No consumption data being received by the 19 individual property owners for over 1 month. No customer service received at all from Data Energy. A simple reply saying that they had closed the matter as they regarded it as ‘solved’. DE say the matter is the managing agents responsibility. How can a problem which ultimately is Data Energies responsibility be solved when the consumers (paying their inflated service charges) are not receiving the service?
Ridiculous situation leaving 19 property owners (average age 76) with estimated invoices indefinitely.
No zero star option, so 1 star given reluctantly.

We understand how concerning it is not to have up-to-date consumption data and to receive estimated bills as a result. That is not the experience we want for anyone, and we appreciate how stressful this is for the residents affected.

To clarify, although we are responsible for collecting and processing metering data for billing purposes on behalf of the heat network owner and managing agent, the issue causing the lack of reads and subsequent estimated bills relates to the underlying data flow from the site, which requires access and remedial action to be coordinated by the managing agent.

Without this, we’re unable to retrieve live readings, even though we continue to monitor and flag the issue. That said, we completely accept that from a resident’s point of view this distinction is irrelevant - residents just want the problem fixed.

We have looked into your query and can see that our Customer Care team advised that, unfortunately, for any repairs or investigations you will need to contact the managing agent as due to the location of the site we are unable to investigate this ourselves. Having said this our team proceded to mark the ticket as 'Solved', however, we would like to highlight that this was not done in the sense of abandoning it, but rather because fixing the underlying issue is predominantly out of our hands. You can rest assured we are continuing to push for the required on-site actions so the data can start flowing again as soon as possible and bills can be resumed on actual reads.

Amazing support staff

I was put in a very unfair and dishonest position with Data energy by my previous landlord.
Called support to discuss the sensitivity of the matter. The assistant named Sara was Amazing!! Very quickly she explained in detail my situation giving me reassurance. Her professionalism and kindness combined were superb.

Quick, Informative and Helpful

This was my first time reaching out to Data Energy as I needed to clarify some outstanding bills. Although the wait was quite to speak to someone was quite long, Sara, the person who assisted, made sure that all my questions were answered and clarified. As a third-party metering and billing agent, we rely on our client to instruct us on how accounts must be set up during onboarding. They advised us that leaseholders should be the main account holders, and therefore provided us with all leaseholder details so the accounts could be correctly created.

Please note that it is not mandatory for tenancies to be reflected on the account, even when one is in place. This is entirely the leaseholder’s decision. For a tenancy to be added, we require the landlord or letting agent to notify us by submitting our online Change of Tenancy form with all required information (tenant names, email addresses, and tenancy start/end dates).

After reviewing your case, we can confirm that our Customer Care team explained this process over the phone when you contacted us and advised that the form needed to be completed. We can see this has now been submitted with all the necessary details. Our team will update the account and come back to you as soon as possible.

We sincerely apologise for the delay in our response times. We’re currently experiencing a high volume of queries across all channels, but you can be assured that we will provide an update regarding the account as soon as possible.
