Crappiest customer service
Crappiest customer service, will pass you to one after another, waited for 1 hour just to get passed again for 1 hour. WORST BANK I'VE DEALT WITH. Credit increase will take you almost 2-3hrs to get done. It would have been fine if people are paid for the time spent waiting, but of course no. NEVER GO TO THIS BANK IF YOU DON'T WANT HEADACHES. THIS EXPERIENCE MADE IT CLEAR THAT I MADE THE RIGHT DECISION TO CHANGE BANKS. I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE NEGATIVE STARS IF THAT WAS POSSIBLE.
CIBC has caused me to potentially lose…
CIBC has caused me to potentially lose my home. Four years ago, my husband wanted to move all his investments to CIBC. He took statements from his current management company and asked that they transfer all accounts to their wealth management program. While he sat in the office, they transferred all information from the statements into their system. They had my husband sign and we were on our way. Three weeks ago my husband passed away unexpectedly. In order to continue with mortgage payments, I need to start drawing and income from his and my retirement funds. I went to the bank to start the process and they informed me there was no beneficiary named on the RRSP's. What! There certainly was on the statements they copied from. Now, because of their mistake, the retirement funds have gone to probate and I cannot continue the mortgage payments without an income and I lost my job at the start of COVID. Thank you CIBC for your efficiency and due diligence when transferring hundreds of thousand of dollars in RSP funds. What am I suppose to do now.

Dealing with CIBC is the worst…
Dealing with CIBC is the worst…
Dealing with CIBC is the worst experience I have ever had from a service provider. Dealing with Sophia, Robert and Harris in the Toronto Credit Card Center was nothing more than a run around for almost 3 hours where I was transferred in circles without any help. These people forget that if it were not for their customers banking with them these people wouldn't have jobs !!! Why Costco has decided to go with CIBC as their card holder is beyond me, Costco could do far better than this. CIBC is the worst, nothing short of my worst experience ever !!!! CIBC should be ashamed of themselves for treating their customers in this manner. Maybe they need to send their employees for some customer service training, because they don't seem to know how to treat people !!! If you need to bank with anyone go with TD or Scotiabank. In the 44 years I have been banking I have never been treated like this by TD or Scotiabank. At least they value their customers !
Students beware
TLDR: Long customer service contact, Hidden charges on credit card.
I signed up for CIBC because of some good deals I got when I started. I am now working and had recently reactivated my credit card. The bank promptly started charging me for some 'protector plan'. Pretty much all of my other banks would remove services on request and it refund any service charges; CIBC however says that these charges non refundable as well. I would be extremely careful on what services are getting activated without your knowledge.
To make things worse, the customer service seem to be overloaded and there are no callbacks offered.
Avoid at all costs!
Worst experience ever. As a long-term client I was horrified by the excessive and arbitrary charges. My overall charges for 2021 added up to $840! At the end of my mortgage term I moved to a new provider. Despite there being only one CIBC charge secured on my property covering both mortgage and HELOC, the discharge fees and registry fees were doubled up. In Alberta, the discharge fee is capped at $5. CIBC charged me 2 x $300! And wire fees, and extra interest because they dragged their feet after receiving the money from my new provider. There are monthly charges for accounts - an archaic and offensive practice. And crazy $5 overdraft fees per transaction. I'm usually very good with my money but one month a transaction went to my current account instead of my credit card by accident and I didn't notice. $5 fee for going into my APPROVED overdraft. Then the CIBC monthly charge hit and another $5 was charged, then another transaction hit and another $5 charge. I was charged $20 plus overdraft interest for using an approved overdraft facility by the time I noticed my mistake. Every process has unnecessary delays to make CIBC more money. To do anything at all you have to call and speak to someone instead of doing it quickly online. If you want to close your account you have to physically go to a branch. A truly despicable company with abhorrent business practices. I could not be more disgusted with this bank. AVOID at all costs!
Just OKay.
No issue so far with them. Even though I am banking with CIBC, they did not offer me a better mortgage rate than BMO bank which is a bit sad.

I got an email from CIBC about a promotion! It says to open a smart CIBC account and get $300 + 1 year no monthly fee! I opened a smart account on December 6, 2021. They sent to me the Visa Debit Card. I registered my CIBC online account with this Visa Debit Card! Everything was good! When I started to do some online transactions I could not. I called customer service. They told me that "My current Visa Debit Account is not activated. They sent to me a new card. I should wait for it. Then they said I should visit a CIBC branch to show them my ID Card." I have been at the CIBC Northland. I showed them my Driver's Licence. They told me I have to show them one more ID card. I showed them my digital copy of the PR Card! They said ok! Then they called a number. They told me I should bring them my original PR card. They will send a copy of these ID cards somewhere. And I should wait. Why? Because they need proof of identity!
Hey CICB!!! If you need proof of identity to open a smart account why you didn't ask me before opening the account? You opened my account. Sent to me Visa Debit Card. I got many emails that said my account was ready to use. 1 month later "Sorry, your account is not activated".
I don't know what can I say!
You should be more professional.
I immediately closed my CICB account. Because I can not trust you!!!!
Simpli and CIBC working together rippoff
Simpli and CIBC working together, so even your Mortgage is with Simpli the bank in behind is CIBC, spending million in advertising, but for missing $4.13 they charge you twice for NSF Fee. Simpli $45.00 and CIBC again.
In that case I can only say we need much more Covid-19, maybe we cab stop the greediness.
So if you like to get your Mortgage go better to ATB or BMO, but not by that organization.Sorry the Evaluation is far to high with one Star, it should be - 5 Stars. Sorry is not available. So in the future make sure what ever bank you go that CIBC is not shareholder.
Great app, but stop the constant fraud checks
Great app, less hassle transferring money than I had with RBC as a newcomer, but the constant fraud checks on my credit card are a massive pain. I get one a month!

CIBC Rating
CIBC Rating: 1.4 /5 478 reviews.CIBC let merchants steal money from my account. I called CIBC and they hung up my phone. Their manager is very irresponsible and provides the worst customer service in the world.

If I could give CIBC a negative 5 rating, I would! The fraud department is spectacularly incompetent, I don’t buy online with my debit/credit card, yet over the past year I have had to dispute thousands of dollars in unauthorized transactions, which took months to recover. Today, I could not open an investigation since I can’t cancel my card since I’ve been exposed to COVID! What a farce, and complete lack of compassion and service! I’m closing my account as soon as my ID has been replaced. Appalling!
CIBC OLIVER SQUARE EDMONTON
Went to CIBC Edmonton on June 2. A lady took my cibc card and said she will get a financial adviser for me. She had my card and refused to give it back to me even after 20 min. During the 20 minute wait, I asked for my card three times. She was seated and talking to me from her desk behind tellers to my seat outside of counter. More than 7 clients passed me by and yet my card was not returned nor was I helped. She finally stood up when I told her I cannot hear what she is saying.. She came closer and told me there is no adviser available and I must call their toll free.
So I said, she should not have made me wait if there is no financial adviser.available. I told her she should not be holdibg on to my card for that long while talking to me more than 10 feet away and holler across.
Coming home. I phoned CIBC and the assistant manager didn't acknowledge the mistake there. She was defending her staff. Didn't call back ever.
Terrible service
I recently contacted CIBC about using some of the equity in my home to do renovations. I was told that after I was approved the money would be in my account in 10 business days. It’s now been over a month since I was approved and have not received the money. The person I am dealing with is virtually non existent does not return my voice mails or emails. I have called their contact center a few times and they told me they can’t help me I need to deal with the person handling the transfer. I would never recommend CIBC to anyone and will be changing banks when my mortgage is up for renewal. I’d give them a zero if it were available.
...i am giving it one star only because…it deserves just that
...i am giving it one star only because there are a lot of great people working there... however, the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) is, without a shadow of a doubt... the worst bank in Canada -- and among the worst on the planet...
...not only are their investments overseas and in teh US highly-risky with little to show for in terms of rewards, this institution is absolutely oblivious to the needs of its customers... in fact, i would argue that their tactics are downright abusive... fault lies with the senior management, but ultimately the buck stops with the CEO -- if i was a shareholder (not that brave), i would launch an investigation into its practices -- particularly during the pandemic, when many people rely on credit to get by... i mean, isn't that what credit is supposed to be for?..
my relationship with CIBC began as i entered university, with the student loan i took out being disbursed by that very bank... as such i had to open an account... this was no easy feat, with most of the branch staff completely oblivious to my existence/presence (i guess the downtown branches won't talk to you unless you have money or look like you do)... it was downhill from there with lack of communications, underhanded tactics, and rising risk-profile (since the gov't will bail them out if anything)...
i was thrilled to have paid off my student loan early, but was again stuck with CIBC upon the purchase of our home... this was not because i chose the bank... instead, the bank bought the institution that i had my mortgage with (FirstLine), leaving me once again to have to rely on cibc for my affairs...
the second time around was even worse... between the lack of professionalism exhibited at the senior levels, and the disorganized structure -- whereby corporate, branch, and back-office do not communicate --- this institution may be one of the worst on the planet...
i have been a customer for over twenty-years -- filling pockets of its shareholders through student debt, credit card debt, fees of various kinds, lines of credit, heloc, and mortgage... i've had my mortgage with cibc from the get-go, some ten years, without one missed payment... last summer i've began doing therapy for PTSD alongside with my wife... we were both experiencing severe emotional pain which affects memory, concentration and focus... during this time, my mortgage was going to renew... this did not go according to plan as the account manager left for holidays and then quit the firm... my file got moved to someone else who, while doing her best, was simply not competent enough to help...
... this company has nearly wrecked my marriage, causing my wife and i undue stress ing to be helpful... and set back our recovery by months... i will be pursuing the matter further, but wanted to warn anyone thinking of banking with these guys to think twice...

CIBC lies/unprofessional
My daughter ordered a speaker with her CIBC Rewards points, for several months they said it was discontinued in the black colour, then they said they would send a white speaker, then that one was discontinued, then they said they would send a yellow speaker, then suddenly they stated that they sent out the original black one several months ago. She never received any confirmation or tracking for that. So since she never knew that a package was sent out, it’s now too late to make a claim with the shipping company. Why would CIBC claim for months that the product didn’t exist, offer substitutions, and then suddenly claim the item was shipped? We were always home at the supposed shipping date as we were in a pandemic lockdown, so no, this is BS.
Things never change with CIBC
First, I have this account with CIBC only because I am helping an elderly parent. I did a CIBC e-transfer for them yesterday which seemed to go fine. I received a text from the Fraud Dept which asked if it was me doing it, and asking for a Y or a N. I texted an answer, ( Y),
The transaction apparently did not go through, An automated call woke me up and hung up before giving me time to unplug cell phone, answer, get glasses, switch to the number pad, and push the required # was to talk to someone. I called the # on the back of the card when I got up and after a while got through to the fraud Prevention Dept who I believe got the transactions to go through. They would not give me a reason for it not going through other than an automated system felt it may be fraudulent and no way to reduce the chance of this happening again. I can't fathom that if CIBC sent me a text asking if this was me sending it, and I answer correctly, they would then cancel the transactions. Why even send the text? !
Out of all the e-transfers have sent from bothTD or Scotia I have only ever had this happen once out of over 100 times.
Reminds me of why I switched my banking from CIBC to Canada Trust years ago. Then, I had used my CIBC credit card (which I used regularly), to buy ski passes and it was rejected. (days later they said it was out of my normal spending pattern). I had rented a house at Sun Peaks Ski Resort, there was no phone I found out, it was a rental, so no way to phone the card issuer. Could not use the lodges phone so I drove 40 minutes to Kamloops and withdrew money. Really screwed up the ski trip, no idea how I would have got home if it was the weekend. Should have carried cash and probably a second credit card as there was no ATM then, but these things happen at exactly the worst times.
compared to TD
Compared to TD, resetting a trading password took less than 10 minutes on tuesday. BNS 15 ... sat in TD branch same day for 6 hours before TD cut off TD for internal technical issues...seriously!
I am at level 3 complaint at TD, 6 months 30 hours,2 visits to town and counting for my locked accounts at TD...all for a PW reset,,,,so CIBC has become my choice out the oligopoly
Nothing but problems.
Will be listing home for sale as soon as Covid-19 pandemic ends to pay out CIBC. Nothing but problems. Being generous with a one star rating.
