The worst bank ever in Canada.
This bank will screw you if you open an account with them.
My VISA card had an issue. they took forever to send me a new one which never arrived. I asked them to cancel my account and they didn't. Now after a year they reported me for delay 50$ payment which affected my credit score. Worst experience won't open an account with CIBC.

Extremely dissatisfied

I am writing this letter to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the customer service experience that I have had with CIBC over the past 14 months. I have been attempting to close my account with CIBC and cancel my credit card for almost 14 months now, and I have encountered nothing but frustration and inconvenience during this time. I have spent over six hours on the phone with various customer service representatives, and during this time, I was locked out of my online banking app with CIBC and could no longer see what transactions were being processed. I spent more hours attempting to gain access to pay the final amount owing, and despite my best efforts, I was unable to resolve the issue. I finally went into a branch to attempt to resolve this issue, but to no avail.
During my last interaction with CIBC, I was assured that my card was cancelled, and the amount owing would be void in acknowledgement of the struggles I have endured (less than $30). However, credit card statements continued to arrive at my home, and I have been told that I now have to pay the balance outstanding. I have spent an additional two hours on the phone trying to resolve the issue, but it seems that I have been getting nowhere. Daniel, the credit card CSR I spoke with this evening told me it was his professional judgement that I did not warrant the amount owing to be waived. For over a year, I have been held hostage by CIBC and this terrible customer service process. I have had to log many hours of personal time and have been transferred from department to department. This has been an incredibly frustrating and time-consuming experience for me, and I feel that my concerns have not been taken seriously.

CIBC Regina

Twice received consultation and help in solving banking services. Malek Salim is a very good, friendly and competent employee. Conducts a constructive dialogue. Services were provided quickly and efficiently. An employee who knows his job perfectly. I will definitely contact again.

Don't order foreign currency on CIBC online service!!!

I ordered Vietnam Dong on Jan 23, 2023 for my trip to Vietnam in February. I ordered $1500 CAD and received 22,000,000 VND. I thought nothing of it, and there was no information on the site regarding any extra fee for ordering foreign currency.

I found out later that the CIBC's currency rate gave me 4,000,000 VND less than if I were to take cash into Vietnam and exchange it in any of their domestic banks. In short, it pocketed over $250 CAD for ordering VND ahead of the trip! That's over 15% of my total cash! The rate on its site was different than the average exchange rate which was not common knowledge to anyone using this service.

UNBELIEVABLE GAUGING! Shame on you, CIBC!!!!!

Managed to get an AMAZING Customer Service Rep

I got an account years ago to manage a car loan. Fast forward to the loan paid off and I had a hundred or so dollars in that account which slowly was drained off due to the fees. When I got the notification of the $45 NSF fees, I called to close the account. This had actually happened 2 months in a row, so initially Jessica offered to reverse the 1 $45 fee, however after checking with the supervisor a 2nd time, agreed to credit 2 x $45 NSF fee back to the account so I could close it. My fault for not closing it earlier, however I am impressed that they did not greedily grab every dollar out of the account PLUS an additional $90 for the account being overdrawn.

Good to see some common sense when dealing with customer service.

CIBC Can't Use Basic Credit / Debit Columns

It is hard to believe that I need to put this in writing as advice to a bank. Remember how one's bank account should have a debit and credit column - if you do, you know more than CIBC. CIBC lumps all things in one column with these microscopic - symbols. Really. Complained about it 4 times in a year - no change. I am only with them due to Costco and only for the Costco Mastercard. If not for Costco - I would never deal with this bank. Lots of other complaints, but don't want to give my fingers a typing work out.

Closed my accounts a long time ago but trying to help a senior parent that doesn’t want a change in banking navigate through their mess of poor communication and lack of any customer service is a nightmare…

One star is being generous

One star is being generous. I have been trying to resolve my deceased mother's estate since 2021 and I am no further ahead. On Nov. 21/22, I raised a complaint. The Complaint Acknowledgement email I received on Nov. 24th was addressed to my deceased Mother, which was upsetting. When I spoke to a supervisor on the 21st, I was assured that it would take about 15 business days to resolve my issue. When I called on Dec. 20 to find out what was happening, I was informed my case hadn't even been assigned yet! CIBC doesn't care about their customers. I can't phone any one higher up, I am not told who the case is assigned to, so I am stuck waiting. There is no way I would recommend CIBC to anyone. To be fair, whenever I have contacted my local branch to resolve something, they have been very helpful. The difficulty arises when you have to go higher. Now I have to wait again (up to 48 hrs) to be told if my case has yet been assigned. How can this be good business practice? CIBC's policy is not worth the paper it is written on!

I wish there was a way to give zero…

I wish there was a way to give zero stars. This bank is set up to service robots and not human beings. I used to have access to my online banking with no issues. I took out my mortgage with them and of course COSTCO switched to CIBC. One day I was basically locked out of banking because I did not have a cell phone for them to set up 2factor verification. They also use your voice as Identification and each time I have to tell them that I wish to opt out. You will spend many hours on hold waiting to speak to someone to get help. Today I have been holding for over an hour. I have just wasted that time and will now hang up and try again later or tomorrow. I have been trying for a few days. All of this to get them to post me my statements. They will not use my private email, but have gladly accepted my work email. Like really?????

CIBC puts people in debt with their terrible service and poor policies

I recently had to withdraw money from an ATM machine at CIBC. Upon doing so the money hatch refused to open. The machine froze and essentially became a paper weight as it would not leave the withdrawal screen.

I checked my account and noticed that the amount I tried to withdrawal had been debited from my account. So, I called their support where I was told to wait 15 days or more and was given no guarantee of receiving my withdrawn money.

Better yet, I also visited the CIBC first thing in the morning and was told to wait on the online ticket previously created.

Basically, if you are wanting a dependable bank that puts you first, please don't pick CIBC. They have awful customer service, and poor policies. I've had too many altercations to ever recommend them as a banking institution. I am a student who does not have a lot of money, and CIBC has tried to rip me off every turn of the corner.

I love CIBC and its wonderful and helpful employees!!!

I just finished a phone conversation with a wonderful CIBC employee named Kiera...I called about some kind of "fraudulent" charge on my debit card and she was extremely patient and very helpful solving my problem!!! I only wish all banks had such knowledgeable and gracious employees as Kiera. My name is James Ince and I bank with the CIBC branch at #1 Toronto Street. Thank you.

Impossible to contact

I have a bank account with CIBC that I haven’t used in weeks. I am desperate to get access to it, but it is impossible to contact CIBC if one is not in Canada.

DO NOT Trust CIBC

Absolute and total cheats, after paying mortgage insurance premiums for three years and getting cancer and subsequently presenting them with a cancer claim, they simply refunded the premiums and washed their hands of me. Their heavily funded legal department and Treacherously Corrupt Ombudsman office made quick work of me and my incompetent lawyer, while politicians fail to regulate or control this cruel and unusual behavior. They will actually sell you Mortgage Insurance that you do not qualify for, they work with their underwriters who can warp details into any denial of claim regardless of truth and facts. Never once was I presented with a fair opportunity in a neutral arena to speak or introduce my details and argument . Do NOT TRUST CIBC they will mislead you.

I have received 4 phone calls from CIBC with NO message. Who am I supposed to call if all I have is a phone number for CIBC and when I dial that number I get through to card services. NOBODY at card services knows why I am receiving these calls as there is nothing wrong with any of my accounts.
It is so typical of the incompetence of Card services to call and there is no message, who called or whatever.
They are the most incompetent card service in the world. If you get through on the phone by some miracle, some of the agents are so rude and sarcastic
So CIBC if you read this perhaps you could have the courtesy to leave a message

I can never get my on line banking…

I can never get my on line banking sign-in to work. There's always an [error] code. Tells you to try later. This is the worst on line banking of "ALL" banking institution's out there! You'd think they would have resolve by now! What a horrible institution to be connected to! makes me wonder who took over this banking institution? I plan on changing banks damn soon. Enough is enough!

Worst experience in my life!

I opened an account with them. My account got hacked and a bad cheque was deposited into my account. They instantly froze my account and after several phone calls explaining I'm not knowing anything about the cheque I received a letter in the mail. The letter states my account has been closed and I'm banned from having anything to do with CIBC again. Like wth? Totally dissatisfied. Wouldn't go back even if I could!

They falsely charged me an nsf fee for their own nsf fee

I had an account with Cibc and then fall 2020 I had a fraudulent charge go through PayPal and they attempted to take it from my Cibc account but I didn’t have that amount of money in the account and so I had discovered it immediately and had that reversed and corrected within an hour or two and it should have been fine since Cibc says that if something like this were to happen there’s a 24 grace period for it to be corrected before an nsf fee is put on the account and so I didn’t really think about it until a few days later and I realized that not only had they charged me an nsf fee but because I didn’t pay that fee they started charging me an nsf fee on the nsf fee and this continued and extremely quickly it was about $1000!!! And because of the covid situation I was very distracted and I foolishly thought that it would be realized by the bank and corrected and then I forgot about it because I didn’t use it often because I usually use my tangerine account because it has a better visa debit that works at all locations online. Fast forward I realized that I had over $500 in returns deposited into that account and I actually thought it had been resolved because I was only sent good things to my email including an email stating that I was in good standing for the initial part of my account and I qualified to get the $300 sign up bonus and they said they were going to be depositing it soon into the account. Then I realized I was unable to access the account and then I started to receive stuff from a collection agency and I looked on my credit report and it wasn’t $1000 owed anymore but instead about $500 and it said that I had made a couple months of payments of the amount owed ($500 of my refunds that had been sent back to me) and when I finally got someone to listen to me I was just handed off to some customer support person and she was going to be looking into it and it’s been a couple months and still nothing but collection letters constantly coming and my credit getting screwed over and the situation was so easy to see the mess up was their fault and I didn’t owe them but instead they owe me, so easy to see that when I showed it to my 9year old nephew he even seen what was wrong and what happened within 2 minutes of looking without me having to explain a single word. And so now they are just ignoring me and I don’t know what to do.
