With all honesty and pure intentions, I have gave this bank all the chances in the world before I get to this point and they never cared. Not going to explain the whole story but do yourself a favor and stay away if you don't want to be lied to, don't want headache, stress, loooooong wait times, transfered around in a never ending loop, be told " we don't know ", and most importantly disrespected, it's your time, your choice choose what's best for you.

Been banking with CIBC is since 2004 one large loan paid off and on a second with them now for 11 years. Absolute money grabbing fees and charges associated with them. It should be criminal. The customer service dept has no idea how to conduct themselves with customers at all. If I spoke to a customer at my job in the same manner and tone I would be fired. Moving to another bank now. Do not use CIBC for anything!

I have been with this bank for 46 years. There have been many loans, a mortgage, and credit cards through CIBC. I am in Edmonton and I go to the Parkdale branch. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and I love my bank.

Worst bank I have ever dealt with . Ruined my credit after I had paid overdraft off. Had a heart attack and why I was on the mend I made a promise to pay and fulfilled my agreement and they still sent bad debit report to the credit bureau. Please don’t bank with them as they have no compassion at all ! For a measly $500 I now have a ding on report for 6 years

Went to cibc to pick up my card that Purolator had dropped off a day prior. Went to pick it up and was told it wasn't delivered yet even though I showed them a Purolator tracking number telling me it was delivered. I get in my car and start to drive away and I get a text saying it was delivered all of a sudden. I must admit that being in that bank looked like I was in India and not Canada so I guess diversity hires certainly doesn't bode well for work ethic.

Where to start...so many errors...this week new girls next week there will be new ones and they dont know how to do a basic withdrawal! Then blame the customer! The new admin steps in and asks me what l think l am doing? The best bank
The best bank, I haven't experienced any of the issues from the other top 5 banks. They're more approachable, give advice which is in my best interest, and have seamless digital software.
Back to good standards, for now
CIBC returned IBV and so my review has been updated to reflect that.
Although I have had my problems with CIBC, it’s notable that they are always making improvements. Their customer service has been top notch for me, in the last few months. So I give credit where credit is due. 5 stars.
Read before banking at CIBC
Before you think about openning a regular account at CIBC, know this: if you keep over 100k there, they "pretend" to like you - if it goes down to 30k, then you just become pure garbage thru the financial advisor's eyes! It happenned to me. I kept a large sum of money there for over a year; The minute it went down, I was being charged $30,00 service charge I didn't even know for months! When I asked 3 times over 3 days in a row plus an e-mail to the financial adviser to reverse that and to get my TFSA into checking, (I'm still waiting for all this to happen after 5 days and nothing). By the way, I was at the bank 3 times in person and got ignored right there. A new transaction will be coming my way, but I just want to close this account and NEVER bank with CIBC anymore and for sure I will NOT recommend this institution to EVERYONE I know and don't know either. I wish there was an option for ZERO stars!

Zero Stars out of Five
If I could give CIBC Telephone Banking and Fraud Telephone Reporting zero stars instead of one, I DEFINITELY would. I did an e-transfer today that went through to the intended party, HOWEVER, then I received an auto-generated email from CIBC's fraud department saying there was recent activity on my account which seemed suspicious (there wasn't), my debit card/account had been placed on hold, and that I needed to call them to fix this. I called and was placed on hold for over 30 minutes, so I hung up and called the main telephone banking number - also placed on hold for over 30 minutes, so hung up again. Then I tried my home branch - branch manager's not answering their phone, so I've left a message. Who knows when I'll get a call back. In the meantime, I've called the fraud line a 2nd time, and I'm on hold again - God knows for how long this time. This is totally unacceptable, and I'll be closing my account as soon as I can. CIBC customer service is disgustingly bad.

The worst bank for newcomers and international students. They simply don't understand that these international students will be citizens one day and when that day comes, CIBC won't have a good time.
CIBC account for newcomers is awful
I opened an account for newcomers there and my experience was terrible. My debit account got blocked because a bank employee didn't submit all the documents I provided. It took a week to fix it.
Then I applied for a credit card. After 3 appointments with incompetent representatives and 2 calls where I was switched between incompetent departments, my request was declined because I'm a refugee and not human enough for them. Despite that, I have a job with a deposit to their account.
Choose this bank if you want to be treated as a sub-human.
