CIBC NOT TRUSTWORTHY

My father has dementia. He’s 96. He’s also been with CIBC since he was 15. As caretakers, & POA’s there have been an umpteen amount of problems starting with not recognizing our POA status. They are also not paying his bills in a timely matter. They claim all bills need to be approved by their legal department, which takes weeks!! In that time, interest and late payment charges are incurred which they do not release the funds for, now causing our father to appear delinquent when coming to pay bills. We also requested that our fathers 250,000. $$ acct start paying interest. This was requested 4 yrs ago. We are still waiting. At our fathers’ LT facility they occasionally take seniors out for lunch, which is paid for out of the snrs own kitty. This ‘kitty’ also pays for their barber, a foot massage, etc. Because CIBC has decided to not recognize our POA, they are hesitant to release this money into our fathers acct kitty at LTC. They absolutely refuse to let us see what forms they were having him sign just days prior to, & AFTER his drs found him incompetent to handle his financial affairs. Our father set up his accts to take care of him as if he were still competent to do so but CIBC is doing exactly the opposite
My advice to anyone, do your research. Do not deal with this financial institution!! My father, approx 10 yrs ago sent me a 100.00 for my bd in the form of a chq. I took it to a CIBC branch near me, thinking it would be easy for them to verify the money in his acct. They refused to cash the cheque because I did not have an acct with them!! And shame on branch managers who hire underlings to deal with processes in which they are not qualified to handle. These are the ones who will be thrown under the bus. We will be getting a court order as this is absurd!! They even phoned other family members stating that as POA’s we were trying to steal our fathers money because we wanted to transfer his money to another institution “in his name solely” thereby causing irreparably family dissension, which couldn’t be further from the truth. As POA’s there is a fiduciary duty to maintain and pay persons bills, do taxes etc, in a timely manner!! We also hired an estate lawyer, to be paid by our fathers cibc acct. CIBC refuses as they have requested an “itemized” report and explanations as to items discussed.

Cibc won’t give me my 25.000 dollar

On October 29, 2025, I tried to send money to another country through a CIBC branch. In short, CIBC gave me a very bad experience. Almost a month has passed, and my money is missing. I can't get my $25,000 back. They say they're making me wait for the intermediary bank and the other bank to refund it. I've been incredibly victimized by this process. I've had a terrible time. My family desperately needed the money. I've suffered a great deal financially. And this process is still ongoing. All I want now is to recover my money and never go near a CIBC bank again. I don't think they're willing to work through this process. All they do is say sorry. They've practically withheld $25,000.

Système défectueux

Le plus défectueux système informatique et téléphonique que je n'ai jamais vu : J'utilise votre site pour faire une demande de carte de crédit, Erreur à la fin du processus, j'appelle vos numéros, on me demande un numéro de carte alors que je n'ai pas de compte avec vous et le système me coupe la ligne à la face. J'utilise votre site web pour prendre un rendez-vous, Erreur dans votre système à la fin du processus. Finalement vous êtes une banque injoingnable, je ne sais pas combien de nouveau clients vous avez perdu ...

CIBC Ventura visa credit card customer…

CIBC AVentura visa credit card customer service representative has the worst customer service support. They placed us on hold for almost 2 hours just to cancel their credit card. We called again and the customer service representative said she will give us a number so they will just call back and the number she gave was for Ford car dealership. The reason for cancellation is also the advise of CIBC financial officer to cancel their previous credit card because CIBC will issue a new credit card that is better than the previous as part of promotion. Terrible and horrible customer service like SCAMMERS.

This is a bank whose staff has…

This is a bank whose staff has inaccurate information and even makes false promises, and after asking, they simply say they have no information and to contact the customer service center. I regret trusting this bank. Unfortunately, it took more than two months to simply send a card, and now they are announcing that it is not clear when the card will be sent.

CIBC is a highly bureaucratic bank that…

CIBC is a highly bureaucratic bank that simply doesn’t value its clients. Every simple process becomes an exhausting maze of forms, delays, and indifference. There are banks in Canada that treat their customers with genuine respect and efficiency — CIBC is definitely not one of them.

I’m closing my account and will stay only with National Bank, which in my experience is the best bank in Canada. They actually understand what customer service means.

The worst bank I have ever dealt with…

The worst bank I have ever dealt with in my 60+ years of life.
I was promised 4.9% for 3 months if I opened a savings account. So I did on Aug 11th. I did a mobile deposit of a cheque from my regular bank. The funds ended up getting deposited to my credit card with them instead of being deposited to my newly opened savings account. No problem, I'll just call them and have it transferred from the credit card to the savings account. After 2.5 hours on the phone, I was told they would hold the funds until Aug 22, I was not impressed, but what could I do. A couple of days later, my credit wouldn't work, so I called again, got through right away. I was informed that not only did they hold the funds, they froze the whole account until the 22nd. but was promised, again, that the funds would be moved to the correct account on the 22nd. On the 22nd, nothing happened! On Saturday the 23rd, after 30 minutes on hold, I decided to visit my local branch at St. Vital Centre in Winnipeg. The teller phoned to get it straighten out, after about 30 minutes of her being on hold, she gave me her phone and I waited. Over an hour later, and about four transfers later, I was told they could do it, but i would have to wait another 3 to 5 business days. So I waited again! The following Friday, Aug 29th, I went down to the branch at St. Vital Centre again. I wanted to talk to someone in the branch that could fix this! I was told that because it was the end of the day, nobody was available to help me. The teller informed me that she would have the manager call me on Saturday morning. No response, AGAIN! I went back to the branch and was informed that the manager was transferred to another branch that day, but she would be requested to call me on Tuesday, Sept 2. On Wed the 3rd, I researched my options to get this resolved through the government agencies. Today, Sept 4, I checked my account, and the funds were finally moved. I can almost guarantee that I will get screwed for ALL of the promised interest. But I'm just happy it's over! NEVER EVER DEAL WITH THESE CROOKS!!!

they are complete idiots when i go online it gives me total payout on line of credit its not true false advertising then what is total payoff mean

the are like thieves and customer service dont car about 35 year plus customer
you can get abused by any other bank AND NOT TREATED LIKE A SECOND CLASS CONSUMER

CIBC has the worst customer service…

CIBC has the worst customer service ever in Canada. How are they still in business? My credit card was compomised on 14 Jun. Now it is 13 Jul and I still don't have a replacement card. A Manager I spoke to told me he will give me a $5 credit towards the $199 fee I pay yearly. Really? I spend over $120,000 on my card a year and have been a customer for 28 years. They have ambulance chasing employees at Pearson airport in Toronto chasing after people checking into a flight to sign them up for a card. They don't care about a 28 year old customer who spends a lot of money on his card every year? Very very very bad. I am done. Leaving CIBC for good. Will never ever again work with this Bank registered somewhere in the 3rd world (perhaps the 5th world).

I have a Costco Master credit with CIBC…

I have a Costco Master credit with CIBC and have been calling for one month to remove insurance protection on this account and they keep you on hold and cut off the line. This is deliberate attempt to continue to exploit me despise my efforts in resolving this issue amicably.

CIBC HAS TAKEN THE LAW INTO THEIR OWN HANDS. THEY HAVE OUTSOURCED AGENT WHO ARE NOT EFFICIENT NOR WELL VERSED IN ENGLISH. CIBC IS A NIGHTMARE AND THEY HAVE FRAUDULENTLY DECLINED A PAYMENT THAT NORMALLY GOES THRU EVERY MONTH.
CIBC WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR ALL INCURRED EXPENSES, NFC FEES AND OTHER RELATED EXPENSES. CIBC YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN CANCELLED YEARS AGO.

I received an offer through Credit…

I received an offer through Credit Karma that, because of my "Very Good" credit rating I qualified for a low interest rate credit card with a great transfer offer. I didn't get the transfer balance offer I applied for but they sent me a card anyway. I didn't understand this until after a week of two visits to the local CIBC, two days of calling customer service and after an hour wait on the phone they activated my card so I could then register it online. That's when I discovered there wasn't a transfer. After waiting 30 minutes, a condescending person, obviously reading a script, wore me out and I hung up. Be careful. They're just handing out credit in these hard times. Shame on you CIBC. Update.... they sent me a text today to say my card was ready for pickup. I picked it up ten days ago. I don't know what's going on with CIBC but I am worried that they have my information.

bank here at your own risk

I wish I had read these reviews before switching to the CIBC. After high pressure sales of products we did not want and taking a loss, we had to put up with an argumentative and rude manager. We started to move all our funds to another bank, and the CIBC has( what appears deliberate ) delayed every request or made mistakes on the transfers. We asked for a transfer of funds in Mid December to another bank with all Ts crossed and Is dotted and as of the end of January they still are holding funds. P.S. The competitor (TD) is a great bank.

Incompetent call centre agent.

I requested a replacement debit card by telephone banking and my present card was cancelled and l was not told this by the agent in the call centre managing the request.
They obviously don't know the procedure for processing this request as l was told to destroy my old card remove it from Apple Pay and add the new card to my Apple Pay on receipt of the new card.
This means l have to make an unnecessary to the nearest branch to get an emergency replacement until the new card arrives.
l am going to open another checking account for my direct payments with another institution.

Been on hold for over an hour waiting…

Been on hold for over an hour waiting for a CIBC Visa rep to pick-up the phone. The recording keeps telling me how important my call is... but certainly not important enough to actually answer.

Hopeless company...taking my business elsewhere.

Happy Client!

Went into a physical location to verify my identity for a service I applied for to do Business with this Bank. I had a very pleasant experience with the receptionist! She was very friendly and knowledgeable about the services the bank provided. I am a very happy client. I am heavily loyal to Square but this bank is certainly my second option now. Thanks!
