unprofessional even though we have been working with them for 3 years they backed out mid-audit saying they have more workload from other customers
The old adage that there are three…
The old adage that there are three components to a construction job: SPEED, PRICE and QUALITY - and you can only have two in a contract was very applicable to CertaPro’s recent job on the exterior of our house. They excelled in Speed and Price - Quality, not as expected by a professional painting contractor. Preparation work was minimal, paint was not fully scrapped and sanded, caulking was applied and painted over while still wet and many areas were painted over loose and peeling paint. All became evident the day after the job was ‘completed’, with a strong rain fall the next evening that literally washed off paint and trapped water behind paint. Not recommended for any job that requires careful pre-paint preparation work to be done - but they were fast and affordable.
Lack of quality and honesty
he crew completely rushed a high-ceiling drywall patch—spraying the texture and immediately rolling over it without waiting, creating a heavy, unfeathered circular ridge. I was told if i didn't paint the entire upstairs ceiling the patch would stand out. So I paid the additional money and it looks horrible. The crew abandoned the job without a walkthrough, and the office didn't even know they had left. After Memorial Day, the original project manager, Shane, inspected it and explicitly admitted it looked bad and promised a fix. Then he resigned. The new manager, John, refused to honor that promise. He twisted contract language to excuse the bad work, told me it would cost MORE money to have them fix their mistake, and then openly admitted that even if they did try to fix it, he wouldn't guarantee it wouldn't still look obvious! Terrible quality, non-existent internal communication, and zero accountability from the Western Chester County branch.
Certa Pro Painting is officially the…
Certa Pro Painting is officially the 2nd worst company I have EVER worked with. The crew they sent out decided it was ok to pee in my shower since the 2 toilets were already wrapped in plastic. I AM NOT EVEN KIDDING. Alfredo and his crew (all family) came out to start painting my entire upstairs from top to bottom. They failed to make repairs on my windowsills after I specifically asked for them to be fixed. They just painted over the chips and cracks. You can still clearly see the cracks, not one drop of caulking was used on the windows or anywhere, which was really needed in sections. Paint drips on my baseboards, walls and carpet. They used masking tape to tape off door handles before painting, which did not keep the paint from running behind the handle. 5 door handles/hinges have paint runs. (they refused to paint the top of the door and frame) After 2 days masking is very difficult to remove. Nail pops and countless other errors were missed even after multiple inspections. Zero prep sanding. Zero prepped at all was done including removing shelfing in closest which is now about 25% painted. Drop cloths and plastic were tapped to the lower half of the baseboards, with MASKING tape which came off within a few hours. The baseboards and carpet then had no protection from paint drips and splatter. Bathroom faucets were painted; curtain hardware was painted due to nothing being tapped off. Nothing was ever tapped off. If they did see they made a mistake and painted something like the hardware, they wiped it with their finger, no wet rag or anything was used. They even painted cabinets that were actually covered with plastic, how? There are countless other errors: The workers never used tape when painting most mounted items; they just tried to free-hand to cut around doors, fans and smoke detectors. They were not that good. The first crew even told me they would not remove my bathroom mirrors to paint behind them. I had to remove them myself. Now I am left cleaning up all the paint over runs, because they failed proper prep. Honestly, I think they were a crew who expected just to come in, paint, and collect money. They had zero interest in doing it correctly. I ended up firing this crew after 8 hours for all the errors and peeing in my shower. I had the supervisor of the crew come out, inspect the damage before we cleaned the pee and it smelled bad. It took a full day before they finally found a replacement crew, who came out for less than 30 min and then left. His wife was involved in a car wreck but was told she was ok, but he had to go help her, which was fine, we understood. But instead of coming back in a couple of hours, he said he would not be back that day and was not sure if he would come back the next day. We took off 4 days of vacation for this project that was scheduled 1 month in advance. So, I had to find another painting company to come out and basically start over. The first company I quoted, came back with an even better price to do the project for almost $500 less. BONUS. But the new company will have their work cut out for them fixing all the mistakes Certa Pro Painting caused. They failed the contract multiple times. They could not provide the service promised. The GM agreed to cancel the contract because of all the problems we experienced. The GM said we could call it a wash. I feel this would not have mattered because if they even attempted to collect, I would counter sue for creating a biohazard situation by peeing in my shower and failing to complete the contract. The GM even asked me to be respectful when leaving a negative review (he knew it would happen). They had a 3rd crew come out at the end of the 3rd day complete clean up.
So basically, if you want a painting sub-contractor to come out and pee in your shower and do a half a** job, call Cert Pro (they are all sub-contractors). But I would highly suggest finding another company. Lastly, the GM was supposed to send me a follow-up email stating they would cancel the contract and call it a wash; I have yet to see that email.
Homeowners Beware of CertaPro
Homeowners - BEWARE of CertaPro:
I wrote up a lengthy review but TrustPilot doesn't allow attachments or links so if you want me to send it to you please let me know at jasonkemail @gmail.com.
As a homeowner my experience with this company has been disastrous and you need to be aware of what you are getting into. I too looked at all of the good reviews and thought that I couldn't go wrong with such a reputable company. Maybe CertaPro was a good brand at one point but my experience will put a spotlight on who they are now.
I am sure that for many homeowner they did a good paint job and for that they were given their 4 and 5 star reviews. But a company is not defined by the times that they do good work, they are defined by the times when they mess up and you get to see their true colors. Are they going to help you, the homeowner? Or are they going to hurt you and leave you out of pocket for tens of thousands of dollars and months of frustration and anxiety that keeps you awake at night.
My experience covers who CertaPro is when things go upside down. When they should step up and do the right thing and they absolutely do not. I was floored to learn that the liability insurance they showed me is not actually applicable because all of their workers are subcontracted and those folks who you do not get the chance to vet are responsible for having their own insurance. This company is a glorified General Contractor taking advantage of low cost subcontracted labor posing as a company that actually is doing the work and insuring the work is done right ... THEY ARE NOT!!!
My experience covers the countless lies I was told like:
1) We have a carpentry division – THEY DON’T
2) CertaPro will be doing the work – THEY DON’T
3) CertaPro’s Insurance will protect me if things go wrong – IT WON’T
4) CertaPro’s Laborers are given specific instructions for each job – THEY’RE NOT
5) Spray Painting is the same as Rolling – IT IS NOT
6) We will do the right thing to make things better – THEY WILL NOT
If you read this review and still choose them God help you. I have never realized how shady a business could be until the last 3 months of dealing with CertaPro Painters of Greater Cincinnati.
EXCELLENT, TIMELY and PROFESSIONAL SERVICE from CertaPro of Shenandoah Valley (Northern Virginia)
We did read the Pros and Cons before booking. Our focus was our Entryway, high-traffic hallway and four rooms, of our Lake Frederick, Virginia home. Our Project Manager, KEVIN, with CertaPro of Shenandoah Valley (Northern Virginia), did a fantastic job coordinating everything from start to finish. Kevin F., is a professional and actively maintained communication, making the entire process seamless.
A personal shout-out goes to LANCE Lemon, our on-site supervisor. Lance was on-site early everyday, managing daily operations with incredible dedication, experience and knowledge. His recommendations were considered, changes were made and our contract amended. Our home was new construction, eight years ago - nail pops, tape cracks and contractor flat paint did not hold up to my cleaning.
I believe in giving credit, where credit is due.
It was Lance's attention to detail, experience and dedication that managed the timely and flawless finish - the final look PHENOMENAL!
Kevin and his team, took a short time-line, coordinated purchase of supplies, amendments and WORKED-IT to perfection!
I also believe OWNERS need to DO their Do-Diligence; ask the questions, do the research; ask why, and be PRESENT. I am a retired federal employee and not a painter; I know your accountability can be passed down but not your RESPONSIBILITY.
I highly and personally recommend this team!!!
I’ve worked for these guys for years…
I’ve worked for these guys for years they used the cheapest material possible paint fades within a year and when you call them back, they don’t want to warranty the work. It’s like pulling a tooth trying to get them to fix their screw ups. Trust me they are the last ones I would call plus their prices is very very expensive. Get quotes first then you will change your mind on Sertapro.
Met with Terry to get a quote.
Met with Terry, we did a walkabout and he was informative regarding what was best, adding the job would involve pressure washing, and quality paint, probably taking 3 days. The quote was reasonable and after getting 2 more quotes, decided to go with CertaPro Painters. The workers were on time, performed professionally, did quality work and were done in 3 days. Very happy with the job.
Unskilled, Unprofessional, Overpriced !!!
Do not trust these people with your project. First of all, the reviews on here are fake. It's not a real company! The "Owner" of the franchise is very unprofessional and works out of his house. I've attached photos of the "finished" product. The total job took over a month to finish due partially to rain. But if they would have used the correct paint to start with it would have taken the first weekend. They missed whole areas, and the areas they did paint, were slapped at and not acceptable for a so-called professional painting company. They got paint all over the siding of the house, the concrete patio underneath the deck, the fence, and even painted my furniture. Every time I brought up issues the "Owner" made excuses or even said he didn't see what I was talking about. On the last visit he told me that I damaged the paint, where they haven't even painted yet. When I tried to show him spots where they missed, he tried to blame the weather. When I explained it wasn't the weather it was missed, he kept telling me that I need to stay on topic "it was because of weather". He became very irritated and raised his voice and threatened to take me to court and I would have to pay more. At this point I asked him to leave. We now have to hire another company to actually finish the job
We scheduled them to come out and give…
We scheduled them to come out and give me and my wife & estimate on Wednesday April 15th to come out the next day the 16th at 4:00 p.m and we were at the home waiting and they call us at 4:30 to say they are not going to come because it's to far when we made appointment they knew the address so why would they schedule it in the first place terrible customer service!!! Waited here for nothing!
DO NOT USE THEM!
I had the interior of my home and kitchen cabinets painted and I am left absolutely devastated and out of 8k+. I wish I could post pics on here. I had to repaint all of my trim and literally every wall and my brand new cabinets are ruined. My brand new floors are also scratched and have random divots and there was paint EVERYWHERE. the staff is lovely I want to say. And I don't believe it to be their fault. I think if there is no one therw to teach you, put processes in place, and check your work on completion, then there is no way to be successful in this line of work. I would absolutely never do this again and just hope they don't rob someone else of their money under the assumption that there will be solid work done.
Absolutely no communication skills!
I advised this company I was to be out of the country and not to paint my front door till I was back home. Only to come home and found my door already painted with tape all over the place. My neighbor advised me they took my wreath off the door, placed it on the ground in the pouring rain, destroying the ornaments which I found laying in the dirt upon my arrival home. Reached out to the company and spoke to some guy named Luke who absolutley did nothing to rectify the problem and I am left with an incomplete paint job. Absolutely unacceptable! My home is on the market which makes this even more frustrating. My advice find another company.
I am very satisfied with the services…
I am very satisfied with the services provided by Randy from CertaPro Painting Co. The team was punctual, professional, communicative, and maintained a clean work environment throughout the project. They were extremely thorough and delivered high-quality results. In particular, they did an excellent job addressing extensive smoke damage in an apartment caused by an occupant smoking inside the unit. The workmanship met and exceeded expectations. I would not hesitate to use CertaPro Painting Co. again and would recommend their services to others.
Disappointing results and costly repairs after poor paint job by CertaPro Painters of North Orlando-Space Coast FL
I hired CertaPro Painters of North Orlando Space Coast, FL to prep and paint the trim and fascia on my barn right after having it re-roofed. I expected a professional, long lasting paint job but instead, the work was careless and poorly executed. The boards were barely covered in paint, the backs of the boards were not primed or painted, and the joints were not caulked. Less than four years later, the new trim and fascia rotted and had to be replaced and painted which resulted in an unexpected, significant cost. When I contacted the company (Barbara Coleman) about the failure, they refused to acknowledge their mistakes or offer any compensation. To make matters worse, one of the painters told me that the workers had to buy their own paint, which likely explains why the application was so thin and inadequate.
This company shows a complete lack of quality control, integrity, and accountability. I strongly recommend avoiding CertaPro Painters of North Orlando Space Coast, FL for any painting project. You will save yourself a lot of time, frustration and unnecessary expense.
CertaPro Painters of La Grange - Willowbrook, IL
I had a friend who used CertaPro and was happy with the results. He gave me Shawn’s business card, and Shawn came over to provide an estimate. I explained that I wanted the house repainted with the same color and paint type that was previously used — no color changes. About two-thirds of my home is brick with aluminum-clad soffits. The rest includes wooden casement windows. I recently had a new roof and gutters installed, so all I needed was for the house to be repainted exactly as it currently is. I also have double front doors that did not need painting. Shawn told me I’d be getting one of his best crews — the same crew that painted my friend’s house — and quoted a price of $4,139. However, instead of a crew, one person showed up to do the entire job. To his credit, he did an excellent job. That’s not the issue. The issue is that it took him a total of 10 hours over three days to complete the work. (I confirmed this using my security camera footage, which shows when his truck arrived and left each day.) Two other companies had quoted me similar jobs, estimating about 10 gallons of paint at roughly $80 per gallon — around $800 in materials. That leaves $3,339 for labor, meaning I effectively paid $333 per hour for one person to paint my house. For that rate, I should be hiring Vincent van Gogh, not a one-man crew. I understand that CertaPro has overhead, but the painter arrived in an unmarked, rusted Chevy van that appeared to be his own vehicle. It took him several minutes of yanking on the cord just to get his old power washer started. So, I can safely assume CertaPro isn’t pouring much investment into its “fleet” or equipment. The real kicker came when I noticed they refused to paint the wooden frame surrounding my patio door. It’s a standard sliding glass patio door — two large panes of glass, one fixed and one movable, each surrounded by about 1¾ inches of wood. It would have taken maybe 10 minutes to paint, yet I was told that "wasn't included". For a $4,139 paint job, that kind of nickel-and-diming is unacceptable. The proposal even includes photos clearly showing that patio door and fixed window as part of the areas to be painted. Yes, I can paint it myself in 15 minutes — that’s not the point. The point is being charged an exorbitant amount for 10 hours of labor by one person, only to have minor details like that left unfinished. Because of this experience, I can say with confidence that I will never recommend CertaPro to anyone. I hope the 15 minutes they saved by skipping that frame was worth the lost referral.
Lazy work
Lazy work. I have drips that have dried. They didn't tape anything off so I have paint on my outlets and wall sconce. Thank goodness I had already removed the outlet covers or I'd have paint on those too. When I pay a professional to do a job I expect them to DO a professional job. Very disappointed in the lack of professionalism.
EDIT: The company came out and fixed the issues. The new crew they sent did a great job fixing all the paint drips and cleaning up after the first crew. The room now looks nice.
Hiring SertaPro Painters was a hug mistake
Hiring SertaPro Painters was a huge mistake. They rushed the job from day one—my neighbors even saw them painting a second coat over a wet first coat just to finish faster. The interior of my one-car garage only got one coat, full of missed spots, and I still paid $1,000 for patchy, low-quality work.
The exterior is even worse. Within a year the paint bubbled, likely because they didn’t let it cure before it rained. Their “fix” was sanding and spot-painting, which left my aluminum siding with bare, textureless patches and obvious mismatched paint. After more rain, new bubbles appeared. They now blame “moisture behind the siding” and refuse to repaint properly—only offering more patch jobs.
Their warranty is worthless, and their communication is terrible. I’ve had to chase them down every single time; they never call back first. Most recently, they came on Sept. 23rd and said I’d hear from them in a day or two. It’s now Sept. 29th, and nothing.
The end result: a patchy, mismatched house, endless follow-ups, and no accountability. I’m now speaking with other painting companys and pursuing legal action to recover my money.
Do not hire SertaPro Painters. The warranty is a joke, the work is sloppy, and the customer service is nonexistent.
The team did a great job
The team did a great job! We hired them to paint the entire main floor, which also required a good amount of repairs on walls and ceiling of some rooms. They were very professional and quick, and communicated every step of the process.
