I had a very poor experience with Butter Insurance.

My Jetstar flight JQ8 from Singapore to Melbourne was cancelled on 28 February 2026 due to engineering requirements. Jetstar could not rebook me until 3 March 2026, so I had to buy replacement flights costing AUD 1,090.28 to get home in a reasonable time. Jetstar’s cancellation email clearly stated the cancellation was due to engineering requirements.

I made a claim under my Butter travel insurance policy, expecting support for a major airline disruption outside my control. Instead, the claim was declined. Butter’s position was that engineering cancellation is not one of the listed cancellation events, and that the Travel Delay section only covers accommodation, meals, transport to and from temporary accommodation, and luggage storage — not replacement flights. They maintained this position even after reassessment and Internal Dispute Resolution.

In my opinion, this policy leaves a major gap in cover for real-world airline disruptions. A flight can be completely cancelled by the airline, you can be stranded for days, and you can still be left with nothing for replacement airfare. That is not what most ordinary travellers would expect when buying travel insurance.

The customer service was polite, but the outcome was extremely disappointing. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Butter Insurance if you want meaningful protection for airline disruption.

I recently bought travel insurance with Butter for a boys trip to Bali and it was exactly what I was looking for. The whole process was simple, quick and completely stress free. I could sort everything out online in just a few minutes and the cover options were clear and easy to understand.
It felt like the product was designed for travellers who just want to get their insurance sorted and get on with enjoying the trip. Everything worked smoothly and I had the peace of mind knowing I was covered without dealing with complicated forms or confusing options.
I’ve already recommended Butter to a few mates and even received a referral reward after they signed up, which was a nice bonus. I’ll definitely be using Butter again for my next trip. Great experience all around.

I have used Butter insurance for multiple international trips to various locations over the last couple of years. Each time they have been priced competitively (or better) than all major carriers. The reason I continue to come back, is the customer service and ease of use in setting up my insurance policy. It is clear, concise, easy to navigate and adjust and if needing to make changes whilst abroad, the customer support team is always prompt in attending to my needs. I am yet to need them for making a claim, but based on multiple experiences of dealing with Butter, I have no doubt the quality of service would be just as solid if so. Would highly recommend using.

Super easy and genuinely customer-first

I had a great experience with Butter Insurance. The whole process was quick and simple,  It feels like a modern brand that actually cares about the customer experience. Highly recommend.

Butter Insurance made travel insurance ridiculously easy. The quote took a couple of minutes, the cover was clear and the price was solid compared to the bigger brands.

I had a question before buying and the team replied fast and genuinely helpful.  

If you want a simple, modern insurer that actually feels customer-first, Butter is the one.

Straightforward and no-nonsense. Used for a recent trip. I didn’t need to use the insurance so can’t speak to the Follow through experience, but sign up online was smooth and offered a comparable service to many of the big hitters.

Easy and simple. I book everything on my phone and often websites aren't designed for that experience. Butter's layout is very easy to use and lays out the need-to-kmow information in an easily understandable way. Bada Bing Bada Butter!

I used Butter for my trip to Vietnam, it was a really simple to use product and I liked the refer a friend feature for my parents as well.

Second time buying and it was a easy process. We needed to update our trip dates and team finalised within the hour on a weekend.

I thought these guys were good/different, but they cancelled my policy because they "discontinued a product". What's the point in even getting insurance anymore these days?

I used Butter for my trip to Italy. With a change of plans I needed to add another destination onto my plan and the team made it easy and communication was friendly and prompt. Highly recommend:)
