So far I've just had the consultation at the Matland Clinic with Dr Ball and with David Anderson, their Senior Patient Advisor. Along with their team of staff, both were very knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and a pleasure to deal with. I brought along photos of myself documenting my hair loss over the years as well as my father's. David also asked about hair loss in both Grandfathers and any other male relatives so I wish I was able to bring photos of them. I would definitely recommend bringing photos of as many male family members as possible as this helps the Maitland Clinic to guage how your hair loss may progress if it is still progressing.

Dr Ball emphasised the importance of keeping the future in mind. In my case, my hairline is still receding and all of the hair on top of my head is thinning so I may well end up with a full on 'cul de sac'. Due to the nature of my hair, I have a relatively small donor area. Although I wanted to transplant hairs to fill in the temples of my receding hairline, Dr Ball pointed out that, if the hairline recedes and thins further and I do get the 'cul-de-sac', I may be left with odd patches at the front of my head and that we would need to fill in the gaps and run the risk of running out of donor hairs, leaving me looking very odd indeed. These are all factors I hadn't considered and am glad that, even though it's not the news I wanted, Dr Ball kept the long term plans in mind rather than trying to make a quick buck from a transplant procedure.

I was instead advised to start using non-surgical treatments to try and halt and potentially improve the state of my thinning and receding hair with a view to a transplant if these look to be successful.

Overall, very happy with the experience so far. Highly recommended.

I drove from Wolverhampton to Portsmouth for my consultation with David. I'd done loads of research and decided that Maitland clinic was the best place to have a potential transplant. The clinic is in a very smart building and everyone is really nice. I'd guessed I may need about 3000 grafts but David gave me a really thorough review and said it'd be nearer 1000. David was very kind and professional and answered all of my questions. He told me it was best I didn't have a transplant yet and to wait until I'd taken propecia for about 12 months and to consider PRP too. The whole consultation was very reassuring and worth every penny. I understand so much more about my hair, the transplant process and the other options I have. I visited the maitland clinic 1 year ago as my hair was thinning on the crown and I had serious worries. I had a consultation with David Anderson, who was absolutely honest with me and recommended I take propecia (finisteride). I say he was honest as he didn't try and sell me expensive options from the maitland clinic, he just told me what I'd truthfully need. Well one year later my hair has drastically changed - no more thins, just normal thick hair. Thank god I took his sound advice! My hair now is evenly thick and back to what it was years ago.
The tablets started working after about 3-4 months for me. I'd highly recommend this place if you have hair worries - it's amazing! Thank you so much David!

I have had 2 previous FUT surgeries in 2010 and 2014 in the UK which were terrible, with unsatisfactory results and a poor level of care, this from so called "top" clinics.I had almost given up on any further surgery in the UK as in my opinion it is a minefield of polished salesmen and often incompetent and indifferent surgeons. After much research and consultations with the prominent clinics in the UK I came across Dr Ball at the Maitland Clinic.

Dr Ball from the Maitland Clinic is an exceptional surgeon, i found him to be caring, competent and highly ethical, he has lead his team to have the same ethos and frankly they left no stone unturned to try to achieve the best possible outcome for me.
I had a consultation some time ago and Dr Ball was not happy to go ahead due to my poor scalp health and he felt this needed to be treated before surgery could be considered. This was never picked up by any of the previous consultations, which generally involved the surgeons running their hands through my hair and being aloof when asked questions.

Dr Ball used a magnified camera to assess my scalp and likely graft yield and provided a detailed appraisal talking about alternatives to surgery, and strategies to improve my scalp health for optimal results.

I found him to be a very caring and ethical individual who is not financially driven and puts patient’s interest first, it was apparent to me that he wanted the best possible result for me.

His team David Anderson and Jana Shafer (clinical director) are exceptional in their field. After the consultation I bombarded David (who is an exceptional patient advisor ) with a barrage of questions and queries which were responded to immediately and without ever making me feel that it was too much trouble.

I had another consultation after measures were taken to improve my scalp health and I had a FUT procedure in july 2019.
The whole team were so caring and professional throughout the day. The sectioning of the grafts under microscope is an essential part of the procedure and the technicians were focused and tireless in their work, Jana is a world class clinical director. There was no rush in any part of the day and it seemed the focus of the whole team was to achieve the best possible result regardless how long it took. Dr Ball only treats one patient a day and hence i was the full focus of the team.
In my opinion Dr Ball is a caring, ethical and highly skilled surgeon with a real passion for his profession.Truly world class.

I met with Dr Ball and David Anderson for an initial consultation in Southampton following my concern of thinning hair. Over the past twelve months I’d become increasingly preoccupied with checking my hair after a gradual thinning and hair on the pillow etc. I already have thin hair so this process (at least to mind) made the hair loss feel and look pronounced seeing more scalp when hair was wet etc.

Despite friends saying they couldn’t see what I was worrying about, it was causing me anxiety and worry. Therefore I went to the consultation with the aim of understanding the nature of my hair loss and even though I have good general coverage, to understand whether I would be a viable candidate for surgery in the future. I had been using minoxidil and propecia for over the past year (and probably been checking my hair daily for the past year).

After an initial confidential questionnaire to understand my general health and concerns around hair loss, I met with David to discuss these concerns. David was warm and approachable, taking an initial look at my hair and running through my concerns and current medication plan. David (in a non-pushy and transparent way) showed me some of the options (non surgical) that could be taken forward given that the initial impression was I would not be a suitable candidate for surgery and it was better to maintain my current hair.

Dr Ball then joined the conversation after being debriefed by David and asked some questions regarding my concerns. He then examined using a high-zoom camera to show a broadly healthy head of hair albeit quite fine hair. He talked about why surgery would not be suitable option for me at the moment, explaining that my scalp had too much coverage and If further hair loss ensued then it would be a bad choice to insert hair before this process had slowed down. The manner that Dr Ball spoke about this set me at ease and instilled an air of confidence in the clinic. I left the consultation feeling much better about myself having received some professional and quality advice (which isn’t always easy to come by / access). I’m glad I made the trip to the clinic and thank the team for dealing with my concerns in a professional manner.

I recently attended the Maitland Clinic for a consultation with David Anderson and Dr Edward Ball. Initially, I met with David and went through my medical background and my family background in terms of hair loss. We also discussed my expectations re hair surgery/use of medication etc and those of David. I also asked David about any questions/concerns etc that I had. David also used mirrors to show/explain some of the hair loss I had/would continue to have and what treatments might be used to combat this.

About halfway through the consultation, Dr Ball joined us - from surgery it looked like! He put a microscopic camera to my head and I was able to view the feed from the laptop. I was able to see my scalp way up close, and both Dr Ball and David examined and explained about the different types of hair and checked for availability/suitability for transplant. Dr Ball then drew on my head and used mirrors to show me where the transplant would take effect, which was most helpful. We further discussed the use of/ importance of medication for hair retention/regrowth. And also other treatments such as PRP.

During the consultation, both David and Dr Ball were very professional, friendly and honest about hair transplantation and the various treatments that go alongside this. I felt relaxed and comfortable, and able to chat freely with them about any concerns or questions I had. I would highly recommend The Maitland Clinic if you are considering having a consultation, or just want some more information/assurance about the process.

Amazing Experience from world class surgical team.
I had my fut procedure with Maitland clinic on Wednesday 12th June 2019.

The procedure started around 7:30 am.
Yidi(i hope i wrote the name correctly) and Morgan took my blood pressure test and Lunch order.
Then they explain gently how the procedure will go.
The way they talked with me and explained everything it was soooo caring and made me feel i am the most important person to them.

After that they took me to Surgical room where Dr Ball getting prepared for my procedure he introduced me to rest of the team members.
They all very professional,all in full surgical clothing.
Very clean and tidy surgical room same time relaxing atmosphere.

First step antibacterial hair wash then Dr Ball carefully trim the donor area which is after the stitching completely invisible.

Local anesthetic was the most scary part to me but Dr Ball and his team made it sooo comfort for me.
It was little painful but bearable.
Then the fut strip carefully taken out by Dr Ball and stitching done by Dr Ball.

What can i say about Dr Ball in a simple way,He is Master Of Perfection and Patient Caring.
He will not let you go out from his procedure room untill he feels it's done most perfectly and his team follow same ideology.
The amount of time he spent with me for pre operation consultation most doctor don't even spent that amount time for procedure.
I have sooooo much respect for him and his team.
Everyone is very polite,welcoming ,comforting and making sure am i ok and am i feeling any discomfort.

After the incisions it was time for lunch.
Thank you Morgan for the lovely lunch it was refreshing.
Throughout whole day there was more then plenty of snacks and drinks but I wasn't that interested on eating I don't know why .

I also needed minor mustache repair,i say minor but this is when I came to realise how Amazing Dr Ball is.
He was carefully extracting graft from my beard one at a time and placing it to my mustache area for repair.
Making sure the graft is on right place,right direction,and hair shaft is perfect position for that place.
That took Dr Ball more than hour and i can see and feel how he is planning and thinking which graft to go where,i am sooo Amazed.

After that grafts placement time on my scalp.
It was done by every single member of the surgical team including Dr Ball and Janna Shafer.

Janna Shafer she is the clinic director of the Maitland clinic and whole day she was tiredlessly making sure my surgery goes smoothly.
At one point i wasn't feeling well and needed a break they stopped everything and made sure that i ok.
Mo made me tea it was perfect cup of tea,thanks for your hospitality.
Because of I wasn't feeling well they had to stop everything it took till 10 pm to finish the grafts placement.
And not a single member of that entire team showed any sign of tiredness and I felt they want to do more for me.
At the end of surgery i wasn't feeling well again so Dr Ball,Janna Shafer and Mo stayed till late to comfort me.i cant thank you guys enough.
Janna and Dr ball personally drop me of to my hotel room and made sure i am ok.

I had x2 FUT with Dr Ball when he was at Ziering Medical. Another FUE when he had opened up his own operation in Southampton.
All of which had brilliant results.
I guess I have enough donor for one more procedure and will return to Dr Ball when and if needed.
Thank you Janna as well for lending your skills over on two of those three procedures and apologies if I drove you both a bit nuts with my questions and hair greed!
One thing is clear however. His FUE technique and results were superior for me than the FUT’s received at Ziering. Just seem thicker, stronger with added coverage.

I met with Senior Patient Advisor, David Anderson, and hair restoration surgeon, Dr. Edward Ball at the Maitland Clinic to discuss a FUE procedure to lower a genetically high hairline. They looked through my scalp with a digital microscope and were able to determine the density of my hair, and therefore how suitable I would be as a candidate. Dr. Ball then spent some time drawing a detailed new hairline on my head, which looked so natural and impressive - we had to take some photos. I could tell this was his field. He really understood the artistry of a hairline, and how it differs from the rest of the head. They explained everything perfectly: the light scarring to the donor area, the FUE punch size, recovery times.. the amount of grafts estimated. I felt very comfortable in this initial consultation. They were friendly, had first hand experience of hair transplants and weren't in the slightest bit pushy or sales focused. They were more concerned with the natural results. I consider them top for UK.

It was great to be able to meet the surgeon and have a review and opinion from the surgeon Dr Ball himself, I would recommend the consultation to anyone that is seriously considering their options as I'm fairly sceptical of simply sending photos of one's hairline to get an accurate assessment. When you are considering a treatment that can permanently change your appearance and the cost overall I think £100 is nothing

I recently traveled to London to meet with Senior Patient Advisor, David Anderson, and Dr Ball to discuss my hair loss. Both Mr Anderson and Dr Ball were professional and genial.

I was quite impressed by the thoroughness of the consultation. Dr Ball used a camera to examine my donor area at the back of my head and I could see video of my scalp on a laptop. Dr Ball was keen to explain how each follicle has one, two, or three individual hairs growing from them and that quality transplants require smart placement to build a realistic hairline. Singles go at the front of the hairline; doubles and triples build density further back.

I was keen to ask about the surgery day itself, and was glad to hear that Dr Ball and his team work full time in hair restoration. This is crucial to me as I would rather put my trust in a team who work together with each other every day.

I am transgender and I was pleased to hear that Dr Ball has done hair restoration work with several trans people in the past. He is clearly at ease around trans people and I have no hesitation in recommending a visit to his clinic.

having seen 3 other reputable consultants for a hair transplant local to harley street- consultant David Anderson and Dr Ball were by far the outstanding persons who i'd want to have my transplant with.

on our first consultation David made me feel at ease, took by far the most amount of time to discuss my feelings about hair loss and what I felt was wrong, and then what he felt they could do with no bs. He was also the only consultant to take care examining what i felt was thining and the only one to use a microscope to examine and show me what was strong and where was thinning.

No sales tactics just honest feedback and information which is what was needed, even so, organizing a second visit with Dr Ball just to confirm David's thoughts on what they felt needed doing.

Not even had my surgery yet but after doing my homework with other surgeons and looking at clear results photo's of hairlines and naturalness, along with customer care already had, i have literally zero concerns going with the Maitland clinic.

I went for a consultation with the Maitland Clinic in Portsmouth after having a hair transplant elsewhere that I was unhappy with. After meeting with David and Dr Ball I have been given a lot of helpful advice and they were very thorough in assessing my situation and offering a solution that is realistic and suits what I need.

I attended a consultation with David Anderson, Senior Patient Advisor, who was very informative and gave me what I consider to be excellent advice. There was no evidence of hard-sell whatsoever.

I came to the Maitland clinc and Dr Edward Ball via a glowing recommendation.

I then experienced a superb experience form start to finish. Incredibly professional clinic and can not fault their knowledge or advice about treatment options, products and future planning for my hair. So I then decided to take the plunge this year with a transplant.

Initially David Anderson was my first point of contact who is 'Senior Patient Advisor' and he absolutely on the pulse of current knowledge and treatments (as of course is Ed Ball once I met him) protocols.

I travelled to Portsmouth for both my initial consultation (as I preferred to meet both David & Edward) and of course for my procedure later on. Just 2 hours for me. Although you might think of London or Harley Street as an indicator of getting the best, I would say a recommendation sits much higher for me and it was a pleasure to visit and stay in Portsmouth actually, the clinic is currently in a large new build business complex and overlooks a super lake and forest vista - super relaxing.

The whole team and the after care was first class and they even refunded me some of my payment as Doctor Ball used less grafts - what other company would do that?

I have stayed as a patient and have opted for PRP therapy as part of my maintenance.

I met with Senior Patient Advisor, David Anderson and Dr Ball on Tuesday 4th September 2018. The consultation was really helpful. I'd been doing my own research around hair transplant companies and the Maitland Clinic stood out for me as one of the best in the UK.

David was very knowledgeable and was happy to answer all of my questions. He didn't rush me nor was he keen to get me out the door. There was no hard sale and it was a pleasure speaking to him. I think he had sensed how serious I was about improving the hair around my temples and crown and talked me through various options that would be available to me. PRP was a key talking point and not something I knew much about.

Dr Ball was on hand to examine my hair and show me areas of my scalp which needed addressing. I was also advised that my supply of donor hair could potentially be an issue too. Though I wasn't jumping for joy at this point, I appreciated that he was able to point these things out. It's going to help me with any decisions I make going forwards.

Can't thank them enough. A great consultation, just a shame to hear that my donor hair may stop me from achieving the type of results I'd ideally like. I'm going to keep in contact with them and hopefully meet with them both again in the next few months.
