After getting very down about my developing hair loss through my early 40s, I had looked at hair transplants as an option. I was extremely wary of making a poor choice after looking at a few clinics until I visited the Maitland for a consultation. Every aspect reassured me that if I was going to go ahead with the procedure, then Dr Ball was the surgeon that I would have every confidence in. He was sympathetic and personable, gave a very thorough and well explained assessment of my situation, the possible options and realistic results. It was clear that his focus is on what is appropriate for each patient, and that any procedure is as natural as possible, and will remain so in the future.

I came to the decision to book a transplant at the Maitland, and as every other review says, Dr Ball and his team are top notch. I was really nervous about the day, but everyone there could not have made me more welcome and relaxed. They are all utterly professional, caring and attentive, and the whole experience was rather pleasant.

I'm now just over a year on from having an FUE of around 1800 grafts by Dr Ball, and can only say my life has changed! The results are unbelievably natural. The transplanted hairs follow exactly how the natural hairs grew, blending in perfectly with the rest of my hair. I truly never expected a result like this. I no longer spend hours worrying about my hair, my self confidence is back to where it was years ago, and instead of looking in the mirror and agonising over how many more hairs I've lost, I actually enjoy seeing my reflection again!

I'm glad there was parking and very easy to get to from the main road.
The staff were all really friendly and chatty and I was very surprised by how attentive they were and their willingness to make me feel welcome and comfortable. I felt like I was at a 5 star spa and hotel.
It was really nice of Dr Ball to see me out to the buildings reception at the end of the day and of the nurse to see me out to the car park, it finished off the day perfectly.
It was lovely of the staff to go out and get food for me and bring it back whilst I sat inside doing nothing.
Dr Ball's explanations were detailed and thorough but easy to understand. Dr Ball was very caring and clearly cares about the work that he does and is very passionate about high standards of every aspect of the operation. Dr Ball's attitude towards his work reminded my of my own attitude towards my work - understanding that there's a person your severing and someone's life you're dealing with.
I was glad that David was at the initial meeting, having been through operations himself, and although he works with The Mainland Clinic I felt like he was there to support me rather than the clinic.
Very simply, but I'm really glad to have had the list from the nurse which lists out what I needed to do each day after the opp! I'm glad the nurse messaged me the next day and asked for photos, and that I can email the nurse when ever if I need to.
I think a simple but powerful comment to make is that I would recommend The Maitland Clinic to friends and family and that I would attend The Mainland Clinic again!

First contact with the Maitland Clinic was with David Anderson on Zoom. He was very helpful and helped me realise what they could do...managed expectations.

Next a consultation with Dr Ball. He knew exactly how I felt and was so compassionate. I was able to explain my concerns freely and what I was hoping for. He was so understanding, knew just how I felt and told me I could have 3000 graft by FUT with a natural hairline for my age (66). He went through what would happen on the day, and reassured me as I am naturally very anxious.

Next the day itself...Dr Ball and the 6 others were absolutely brilliant, like a well oiled precision machine. A 7.30 am start going on till 9.30 pm! Plenty of snacks, drinks and proper meals. I was kept informed at all times as to how the surgery was progressing, constantly asked if I was comfortable. Very little pain.

Nurse Karen was especially helpful during and after surgery. Dr Ball always had time for me and at the end of surgery took many photos, and said surgery had gone exceedingly well. In the end I had 3209 grafts.

If you are serious about having this procedure you would be ill-advised to go anywhere other than the Maitland Clinic. The team are worth their weight in gold and made me a very happy and satisified customer. They all thoroughly deserved the many accolades the clinic has been given, most of Dr Ball.

I simply cannot recommend The Maitland Clinic enough. The whole experience was supremely professional, in both the lead up to the procedure, during and afterwards.

To give all a bit of background, I had been pondering for a number of years as to whether a hair transplant was appropriate. Naturally, going ahead with the unknown is a relatively daunting prospect, and after visiting various clinics on Harley St, which I might add were over priced and didn't fill me with much confidence, I felt that maybe it wasn't for me. I then fortunately stumbled across The Maitland Clinic and right away felt I'd met my match. First off was an online appointment with David Anderson (Senior Patient adviser) to assess my needs and to give an honest view of what was achievable in terms of the density, cost and long-term prospects. At no point was I overpromised, with David's explanation of how it all works and he was extremely precise and clear.

My appointment was initially scheduled for August 2021, but to my luck I managed to get a cancelation, which brought the procedure forward to June 21. I made the trip down to Portsmouth on the 7th June to meet with Dr Ball, stayed overnight locally and underwent my hair transplant on the 8th June. The evening before the procedure I met personally with both David and Dr Ball at their Portsmouth clinic. This proved invaluable, giving me total confidence and enabled Dr Ball to run through exactly what I should expect, including a rough idea on the number of hair grafts that could be harvested from the donor areas.

The method I underwent was FUE rather than FUT, a relatively painful process, bar the initial numbing injections and more importantly quick healing. The procedure itself lasted all day, and with a team of six it became apparent why transplants cost what they do. I was made extremely comfortable, and looked after impeccably by Dr Ball, Karen, Ildi, Mo, Gina and Craig throughout. The end result was 2039 grafts, 39 more than I had paid for and therefore anticipated.

I went home extremely happy and was guided by Karen as to the aftercare, receiving follow up phone calls to see how I was getting on.

The important bit.... The RESULTS. Well, all I can say is that I'm more than impressed and am so glad I went ahead, bit the bullet and did it. Within a couple of weeks post op it was almost impossible to see that I had even had a hair transplant. The shedding process was a minor worry, but I was told to expect this and that new hair would grow. This certainly happened and I would say reached it's full potential 9-12 months later. I am now 16 months post op and will be returning to fill in my crown at a later date.

The bottom line is, Yes, you can go to Turkey and receive a cheap hair transplant, but my gut feeling is that Dr Ball is league's above other surgeons and is extremely meticulous in his work. A hair transplant is for life, so it's worth going with the very best.

Every step of the process was carefully implemented and supervised. The staff at The Maitland Clinic, beginning with Dr. Ball, make sure that one is comfortable throughout. It is too soon for me to see the results, but things are looking good. I'm 100% satisfied.

Can't say a bad word about anything. All at the Maitland clinic were brilliant. Helpful, polite & professional. I had my hair transplant at the Maitland clinic just under 2 weeks ago. I spent several years watching my hair slowly but surely thinning before my eyes. I'm so pleased to have done something about it at last. Dr Ball and all his team are so helpful, and their expertise made me feel totally confident I had come to the right place. The day of the procedure I was so well looked after, and you really feel everyone involved goes out of their way to do their best work. In the first week post op, the hardest part is sleeping, because you have avoid contact with the newly planted grafts. However, The Maitland Clinic took great care to give clear instructions every step of the way, and it has been SO worth it!

I had my FUT transplant last week! The whole experience was amazing. I had a consult with Dr. Ball the evening before the procedure to discuss plan, expectations and what is involved. He made me feel comfortable with his level of knowledge and his design of my hairline.

The day of the procedure ran so smoothly. The staff were all sooooo lovely, and I was spoilt with drinks and snacks. It was all very sterile which was reassuring. I watched Netflix all day and drifted in and out of sleep. I didn’t experience any discomfort throughout the day. My donor site has been a little sore to lie on whilst sleeping since, but otherwise the first week of recovery has been super straight forward. Luckily having long hair I have been able to hide the donor and transplant sites easily so have still been able to leave the house. I can finally touch the transplant site and wash my hair, and as far as I can tell all the little hairs are still there! I can’t wait to see my results in the future!

I would thoroughly recommend The Maitland Clinic based on my experience. Why wait, your hair transplant could change your life!

After much deliberation I went ahead and had an FUE procedure at the Maitland Clinic a month ago tomorrow. I had met with both David Anderson and then later Dr Ball and it was that meeting in Portsmouth last year that convinced me I had made the right choice of clinic. The week or so leading up to the day I came into contact with karen Cobb the clinic nurse and she was fantastic and put me at ease with her manner and professionalism nothing was too much trouble.
The day itself was amazing as the team around Dr Ball are so friendly and reassuring, there was music and films and chat and banter. Plenty of fluids, lunch and snacks. Yes there is some discomfort, mainly the initial anaesthetic injections, but overall much less than I thought. Dr Ball is brilliant and his team a real pleasure to spend time with. It was a long day 12 hrs but these guys see it through to the end there is no rushing everything is meticulous. Post op I am really happy as again the attention you get is amazing. Fingers crossed it all works out but so far so good

I had a hair transplant at the Maitland Clinic on the 28th January, after just two and a half weeks I have a proper hairline and can't stop looking in the mirror, it feels incredible. The next stage for me is for the grafts to shed and the regrowth to begin which takes a few months but seeing now what it will eventually look like is a great feeling. I would say to anyone looking to have a transplant don't be anxious there's no need to be, my only regret is that I didn't do it earlier 5 years ago but like a lot of guys I was nervous about it and didn't know what to expect. All I can say is that in choosing the Maitland Clinic I made the right decision as they a certainly the best in the field, from the first consultation with David Anderson through to the surgery with DR Ball and his team they are meticulous in every aspect. Dr Ball is without doubt the best in class and his support technicians are excellent. I should also mention Karen the head nurse who looked after me so well on the day of surgery and has called me weekly to see how things are developing. If you are considering a transplant use the Maitland Clinic and you will have a fantastic experience and be delighted with the result as I am, I can not recommend this clinic highly enough.

I first noticed early signs of hair loss in my temple areas during my mid- to late-twenties, and started using minoxidil and finasteride as a result. This seemed to stem the tide and I noticed some partial regrowth, however, they didn't get me completely back to where I had been a few years ago. Subsequently, I explored the possibility of a hair transplant.

I met with Dr Ball and David Anderson after some online research. What attracted me to the Maitland Clinic was Dr Ball's internationally recognised accreditations, the quality of their transformations, and the tone of their website. They aim at offering a more conservative approach with a view to long-term satisfaction.
After discussing my family history of hair loss, Dr Ball made it clear there is every chance I could need at least 1 more HT after this one, and so it would be advisable to go for a subtle improvement to my hair line this time - leaving plenty of potential future donor grafts remaining.

After deciding to go ahead, I had my procedure this Wednesday (10th February). I was understandably apprehensive, but the entire team made me feel so at ease the entire day. In particular, the pre-op assessment with Dr Ball was very reassuring where we spent a good hour discussing and designing my hair line. The only discomfort I experienced was the anaesthetic injections but they were over very quickly. I was also given a couple of diazepam to help me relax during the day. I really appreciated being told what was happening the whole time, what I would feel (if anything), and what the team in the background would be doing. The whole team were very empathetic, sociable, and down to earth. It is a long day (11hrs) but I can tell you that the whole team is extremely meticulous with every part of the procedure.

I'm only a couple of days into recovery but overall I would say things have gone very well. I did have some painful swelling in the forehead region straight after my op but this only lasted a few hours. My face though has now swelled up like a balloon with 1 black eye! The sleep protocol isn't fun, but if it leads to the best results then of course it's worth it.

Overall I am extremely happy that I decided to get my treatment done with Dr Ball, they were honestly faultless in my eyes. If I do end up having to have a top-up in a few years time, I certainly won't be looking to get it done anywhere else. My only slight complaint would be that the clinic does get booked up months in advance (presumably for good reason) so you may have to wait a few months for a procedure date after deciding to go for it!

I’ve just had a procedure carried out by Dr Ball and his team. I am totally delighted with the result and I’m just amazed how in just 48 hours both the donor and the recipient areas of my head have recovered. I’m sure it is down to the care and attention that was given throughout the 12 hours or so that I was in their very capable hands. I would just like to say that I had been considering having a hair procedure for at least the last 15 years. I have met with a number of other clinics and also some eminent doctors in their field, but it was only Dr Ball that made me feel sufficiently comfortable and confident to go proceed. I found it a very difficult decision to make but as I’ve said, I am now so pleased I took the plunge. In February last year I had a hair transplant with Dr Ball in Portsmouth. The whole experience was amazing and I really can't say enough good things about Dr Ball and his team.

My consultation was with David and it was detailed and helpful. He was far more honest and realistic than other clinics I spoke to. I met Dr Ball a few weeks in advance of my procedure and again the day before. This guy is really particular about the detail. I mean he analysed my situation, took onboard everything I said and planned it out like a military operation. I feel like this guy is in the sweet spot in that he has a lot of experience under his belt but still early enough in his career that he is super passionate and obsessive about getting you the best possible result. It really feels like he enjoys this and takes the most enormous pride in his work. It made me feel so confident that I had the best man on the case.

The day of the procedure was easy and relaxing. I mean I actually quite enjoyed the day, which sounds nuts. Karen is the clinic manager and she is really lovely and calming. I don't remember all the technicians names but there was a woman called Ildi who was really cool and she seemed very focussed on the task at hand. As others have said, Dr Ball is a super nice guy. I especially liked how he managed his staff. He's so polite and respectful to everyone and it just feels like there is such a good vibe in that place.

My results are outstanding. There is good density and with a very natural hairline. He was very particular about getting those really fine hairs and popping them just off the hairline. Those little details have played out really well. So a big thankyou to Dr Ball and his team!

I had a transplant by FUT at the Maitland Clinic in Portsmouth in August (2020). I'm only 2 months on from that now - things have healed nicely and the grafts are in their rest phase. I expect to see some growth in the new year and into 2021. The scar at the back of my head is very neat and with a little hair growth around it is invisible to anyone looking, even from close up. You can still see it if you lift up the hair, but it's healing nicely and becoming way less obvious.
I have to say that the team at Maitland have been fantastic and the experience so far has been great. The information provided before and after the surgery was extremely comprehensive and helpful - all the post-op stuff was spelled out to help me remember what to do when. Dr Ball and his team were all (without exception) so friendly and welcoming on the day too, which really helps put your mind at ease as you're about to get started. Interestingly from chatting to Dr Ball on the day i discovered he has a perhaps unique blend of experience and skills from having been involved in dermatology and plastic surgery as well as hair restoration - these must be such complementary fields and I'm sure contribute to his reputation.
Post-op care as I mentioned above has been great. Karen the practice manager has been in touch lots, checking up on me, asking for photos at regular intervals to ensure everything is healing properly. It's reassuring to know that they do care and it's definitely not a case of 'fire and forget' :)
So now i wait for the regrowth and am glad that my shorn scalp is growing back steadily! I'll post some photos as things start to develop.
All in all very happy with the Maitland Clinic - I'd be very please to recommend them based on my experience so far.

I had an Fut procedure at the Maitland Clinic 08/10/2020 and I can't speak highly enough of the experience.

It was almost closer to a Spa day than a surgical procedure with unlimited drinks, snacks and Netflix to boot! As for the surgery then I was in the very capable hands of Dr Ball, who throughout the day would always explain what he was doing and was always happen to a answer any questions I had throughout the day regarding the procedure.

He has a very clam and reassuring manner and I could tell that he cared deeply about the care of his patients. I felt no pain whatsoever during the surgery and felt at complete ease at all times.

What came through was the teamwork and utter dedication to their work. You can sense that they all enjoy their work and are completely committed to giving the client the best possible result.

I would also like to mention Karen, as she is a simply wonderful lady who answered all my many questions leading up to the surgery and was always on hand during the day to offer advice and support if needed. She also provided the post op care guidelines to me which are very easy to follow and all written down for your convenience.

I had about 1600ngrafts to my crown and the whole day in my case lasted from 9am to 7pm.

The first night was a tiny bit uncomfortable due to my stitches at the back of my head. However it was just a little uncomfortable and I managed some sleep.

All in all I was delighted with how the day went and of course the initial result.

I hope you are keeping well. As you probably know I had my procedure (FUE 2008 grafts) done 3 days back on September 23rd at the Maitland clinic. I didn't get a chance to meet you then but I just wanted to express how very happy and extremely satisfied I am with my entire experience.
Over the last 8 years I have had direct consultations with Dr xxxxx, Dr xxxxxxx xxxxxx, Dr xxxxx xxxxx (I’ve omitted names for trustpilot but these are very well known doctors) and online consultations with a few other doctors but it is only after I consulted with both you and Dr Ball last summer, I knew, if I was ever going to have a hair transplant done it would be by Dr Ball.
His stellar reputation, the time and care given during the consultation, along with the detailed explanation of the type of treatment that would be in my best interest, invoked a feeling of trust and that convinced me.

There are many reviews of The Maitland Clinic here on Trustpilot, and virtually all are men who have sought transplants to address male pattern baldness. I believe there are some differences in the surgeon’s approach to reconstructing male, female & transgender hairlines that strongly affect the naturalness of the result, & this is the reason I chose Dr. Ball to do my surgery. I seldom write reviews, but felt compelled to do so in the hope that my positive experience might help reassure other women seeking to improve their hairlines and, in many instances, their self-esteem.

The initial consultation with David Anderson & Dr Ball has been covered extensively by other reviewers. My experience mirrored these - a lengthy & informative consultation, very attentive to my concerns, professional, objectively assessed scalp health & donor area for quality/quantity with magnified video, & discussion (not monologue!!) about options for designing a new hairline. As others have stated, Dr. Ball’s approach is 100% patient-centric & outcome-driven. At no stage did I feel like I was just another punter to be potentially separated from a large amount of money for the clinics benefit. There is a tremendous vulnerability in seeking a hair transplant - Dr. Ball & David Anderson have both undergone hair restoration surgery & so intuitively understand the emotional needs of their patients. I felt very comfortable with both of them at all times, & I’m by no means an open person or accustomed to feeling in any way vulnerable. I had previous consultations elsewhere as I was impressed by the Artas machine & the FUE technique in the hope that I could avoid a nasty FUT scar as my hair is quite fine & sometime worn short at the back, however no other surgeon I met could demonstrate the same degree of experience with female hairlines or their ability to recreate a natural appearance. With this in mind, I completely trusted Dr Ball’s opinion & ultimately went with FUT strip technique. I did a veritable 180 based on his results, & I’m so glad I did.

Based on my feeling of trust in his skill after the consultation, plus multiple YouTube videos showing close up comb-through results of donor (minimal scar) & recipient (very natural appearance) examples of Dr Ball’s work, it was an easy decision to book the surgery.

Surgery day was exactly as described by others - it’s a very long day & the entire team do everything feasible to take care of you physically & emotionally. The initial local anaesthesia stings a bit, but Dr Ball topped it up throughout the day & did everything possible to minimise pain. Crucially he makes all the recipient incisions - the surgeon’s skill here is imperative to create naturalness. Grouping & specific directionality of the incisions, plus location of 1, 2, & 3 follicle units is key. There is also the same level of attention & care over closure of the donor incision, & it’s a very large ear-to-ear incision. Dr Ball closes in multiple layers to reduce tension on the skin, which I don’t believe is typical of all surgeons, & so reduces the potential for a wide and unsightly scar. He also closes the superficial layer such that hair should grow through (or very close) to the scar. It takes more time, but these details really affect the long-term outcome & as I was very comfy face-down on the operating table, the duration of closure was irrelevant to me. I cared deeply that he took his time to improve the potential for a good cosmetic outcome.

Staying in a local hotel is strongly recommended after surgery, & driving is forbidden after intra-op diazepam. I didn’t enjoy this part & would far rather have been at home, but it is recommended for a reason. There’s no easy way to address this - the pain at the donor incision the first night as the local anaesthetic wore off was significant & the neck pillow was crucial. I like to think I’m fairly tough, but the first week of sleeping was a challenge as the incision was sensitive to even gentle pressure. I was cautioned about this by the clinic, I was ready for it, and I’m really glad I was as it made any pain far easier to bear.

I’m 3 weeks post-op & my grafted stubble is beginning to fall, leaving nice healthy viable
follicles behind. Karen (excellent nurse/manager) removed the suture from the incision last week & all is healing well. It’ll be 12-18mth before I’ll know whether or not I made the right decision to select Dr Ball to perform my surgery, but all I know at this stage is that I’m incredibly grateful to him for his expertise, precision, courtesy & compassion. I’m so glad I wasn’t sold on the Artas robot, a slick sales patter & inexperienced hands. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Maitland Clinic to another woman seeking help with their hairline - rest assured you’ll be in expert hands. You deserve to be.

Its 6 months since my FUE procedure. The experience at the Maitland clinic was first class, starting from the consultation where we agreed on a hairline that while conservative would still make a big difference and looked at the long term too. The day of the procedure was long but you are well looked after and reassured throughout the process and informed about what’s happening. The teams focus is on you for the day and the recovery period was made easier with helpful instructions and advice.

But the most important thing is the results and although there is more hopefully to come I am very satisfied with the results at the 6 month mark. I now have a proper fringe, more styling options and the hairline I wanted. You do need to be patient as it’s easy to think that’s it, or why is my hair not as good as the results on their website, but then you have another growth spurt and hair thickens and matures. You don’t see the final results until 12-18 months after the procedure. Looking back at old photos is fun..it’s when you realise what a difference it has made..

I chose the Maitland clinic because I wanted to stay in UK closer to home and the reviews and comments on forums were positive so now I’m sharing my experience to help others...

I had been contemplating the possibility of a hair transplant for some time, but hadn't been able to decide whether it was the right step. I was put off by all the salesy websites online promising miracles, or the dubious-sounding trips to Turkey giving you an 18-year old's hairline for pocket money...

The Maitland Clinic (as far as I could find) appear to be unique in being completely opposite to all that. Their is goal is singularly the best long-term, natural-looking result for you.

I attended a consultation at their clinic in Portsmouth. In this, Dr Ball and David Anderson will expertly explore your situation, answer all the questions you might possibly have, take a proper look at your scalp and hair under the microscope and make an honest assessment of what the best treatment for you is - whether that is a hair transplant, something else (there are many other options), or a combination.

In my case, we determined that a hair transplant is a possibility, but there are a few other options I could try first (or as well). This has really put my mind at rest as to the path to take.

For any one fretting about what to do about their hairloss, my advice would be - just book a consultation with the Maitland Clinic.

(And no, there's no incentive from them to post glowing reviews - they just are really nice guys, so you feel you want to!)
