Rare to be able to speak to someone direct
Speaking to someone directly who had an understanding of the issue so didn’t need to repeat earlier conversations. Very quick to sanction further treatment required while on the call and both empathetic and efficient throughout.

Unexpected health issues
When health issues unexpectedly hit me the response of The Exeter team was reassuring and prompt.
They are easy to contact and made sure I understood the scope of my policy and how and when to update them on appointments and treatments as my health issues progressed and improved.
In my experience they are providing a very good service.

I am leaving this review because…Unacceptable email response times and ongoing communication delays
I am leaving this review because getting written updates on an active claim has become an exhausting process. Emails routinely take well over a month to receive a reply, if they are answered at all. leaving monthly benefit updates and calculations sitting in limbo.
Because past phone conversations with advisers have resulted in conflicting and misleading information, I require all communication regarding my claim to be kept strictly in writing so there is a clear, reliable paper trail. However, relying on email shouldn't mean waiting weeks on end for a simple response while trying to manage an active injuries off work.
I don't expect instant replies, but taking over a month to handle basic written claim updates is unreasonable. I simply need my outstanding September benefit calculated, my claim status confirmed in writing, and emails addressed in a timely manner.
UPDATE - 5th October 2026 (In response to The Exeter's reply):
This is not a resolution. Telling me to email the exact same inbox that you ignore is meaningless.
It is funny how you can reply to a public review, yet my emails regarding my policy and outstanding payments have been left completely unanswered for over a month.
My emails are already sitting in your inbox. Have a someone reply to my emails

Avoid, someone else's review sums them up perfectly.... Unfortunately The Exeter totally miscalculated the claim pay-outs for Income Protection Policy.... I wish I had read the negative reviews first.

I have had my health insurance for 5…
I have had my health insurance for 5 years with The Exeter. Never made one claim. Not even any advice sought from them. I was 54 years old when I started my cover. I’m ultra healthy and exercise. They gradually raised the premiums then when I have hit 59. They have raised the costs of my cover so significantly that I can not afford it. No rationale for this other than they quoted ‘my age’. This is ageism at its best. We are an aging society and the population is living longer healthier lives.
If these are the morals of this company then I strongly recommend people avoid it.
I have got better health cover elsewhere, cheaper Thanks a lot Exeter.

Our Private Medical Insurance premiums are reviewed annually and may increase due to a number of factors, including age-related risk, rising healthcare and treatment costs (medical inflation), and the overall claims experience across our membership. We understand that affordability is important, and we appreciate that premium increases can be disappointing.
I appreciate that you have now found cover elsewhere, however, if you are currently within your renewal period, there may be options available to help reduce your premium, such as adjusting certain aspects of your cover. I cannot rate The Exeter enough, just Fantastic!
I cannot rate The Exeter enough, I hold an income protection policy with them and having been diagnosed with a medical condition that meant I could not work for a long period of time, I received a huge amount of support and kindness from my assessor Kirsty along with the whole assessment team. I could not have managed or got through this difficult period without their continuous help and support. I highly recommend choosing the Exeter for Income protection policies and any other products as I doubt any other company can offer the genuine support and kindness The Exeter showed me. Not just by supporting me financially and elevating stress and worry but supporting me with my ongoing illness, recovery and mental wellbeing. First class service and will continue to keep my policy with them going forward as I know I have complete peace of mind they will continue to look after and support me.
