Free to paid subscription trap
Subscription trap which my teenage daughter fell foul of. Free subscription for 3 months, then hit with £25 charge without a reminder email or any other communication. Customer service told her she needed to pay more attention to the initial contract! It's a sad business practise and they lack decency. Breaks the consumer legislation coming into force sadly not quick enough (DMCC Act 2024) and I hope they remain lazy until this arrives as I would love to see them fined for their poor ethics.
Subscription renewal a nightmare
They advertise that you can cancel your auto-renewal at any time. But you can't online. So when it comes to your renewal they send you a new quote with a 1,000% increase from £29 to £269. You then have to call them, wait in a queue of 20 for over 30. minutes to get an answer, their call-back doesn't work, simply cuts you off. Then begins the process of the call-handler trying to make out you are such a valued customer they will get it down to just £49 a year, a mere 40% increase. You complain and they say, OK, we'll do it for £39 a year, again over 30%. It is so random, I just cancelled. I won't subscribe unless there is an easy and transparent way of handling and renewing my subscription. For a newspaper who holds others to account, the Telegraph's own standards could do with a serious overhaul.
So a day after cancelling, I get an email offering me the original price of £29. That was 4 different rates I was offered - £269, £49, £39, £29 for the same subscription. It's like haggling in a market, it demeans the client. It's not about the price itself, it's the lack of respect.
Dogs really welcome. Outside was warm. Service was lovely. Food was excellent

I have just noticed daily telegraph has been taking money out of my PayPal account for two months and I have never knowingly subscribed to their paper. I have never even wanted to so how on earth has this happened. Tried to go onto customer services to complain and ask for a refund and there is nowhere you can contact a person.
Telegraph free trial tricks
I signed up to this 1 year free trial offer on access to puzzles last year. I used it for a maximum of 1 hour and forgot about it until I received an email notifying me I will start getting charged next week. I logged in to cancel and found out I have to chat or call to cancel. The person online told me she can only cancel my subscription effective 2026 because I signed up for two years - 1 year free and 1 year paid for £17.99. I then called because I wasn't going to let anyone scam me and thankfully the guy on the phone eventually cancelled it effective immediately. I used to have the opinion that I would choose Telegraph if I were to sign up to a newspaper online, not anymore. I'm disgusted at their antics! I wonder how many elderly people they scam everyday by confusing them.

I got a free trial with the Telegraph, but they made it almost impossible to cancel.
I thought I had cancelled until I was charged £30 for 2 months of unused content.
I finally got through to a customer service agent, who was rude to me and argued with me instead of helping, and they refused to refund me.
Freedom of speech a joke!
As a subscriber, I enjoyed leaving comments in relation to many of the articles published in The Telegraph. However, they employ moderators who effectively run amok in their zeal to delete comments, especially in relation to anything to do with Islam. Freedom of speech on the Telegraph is a complete joke!

Con artists. Spoke to them prior to my subscription to confirm the renewal price. They have charged me 6 times the price and have failed to refund me when contacting them directly. They just constantly try to upsell you on the phone.

I Havel close-vision issues and have always expanded the text when reading the digital version. Just adjusting the font size is insufficient. I have contacted the Telegrsph at least 6 times without any response but eventually phoned, waited for ages, and was told that they know about the problem but they don’t know when it will be sorted.
