There are no words to explain exactly just how bad this company is. Anyone that is considering using them please for the love of god, do not.
Failure to repay credit. Don’t use
This company owes the development in which I live a refund. They have admitted that a refund is due and have confirmed that they would send it to us but they have failed to do so. I have raised a complaint to which they have not responded.
This has been going on for months. I don’t think we are the only ones in this situation. I’ve read of others. Think how much money they are making on our money.
Don’t use this company.
After months of frustration…a light at the end of the tunnel
After months of repeated billing errors, ignored meter readings, and overestimated bills across multiple SSE accounts, it has been an exhausting process to get accurate statements and refunds. However, today I spoke with Sameed from SSE’s billing team, and I want to highlight the difference he made. Sameed took the time to listen, understood the details, and managed to resolve most of the outstanding issues, including correcting incorrect bills and arranging refunds. His professionalism and persistence stood out, and I genuinely appreciate his help. I only wish SSE employed more people like him — it would have saved our organisation many months of unnecessary frustration.

I am a director of the Freehold company to a Property and I was concerned that we we were not up to date with our payments. I had asked our Propery Managment Agent to look into things, and they said it was difficult with these big companies.
However within minutes I was through to Mysara who could help me, and within say 15 minutes and me providing the meter reading, we had established that our building owed SSE about £8K, but for some reason the Billing had been stopped in Jan 2024 - so after I had confirmed the billing address, we found a way to send the Invoice to the Property Manager. I shall be chasing up to see that our outstanding amount is paid.
Good outcome for SSE to have the £8K they are owed, and good for our Freehold company to have our Accounts updated before the Y/E.
Well done Mysara - you even got your calculator out and gave me an estimated figure! I couldn't be more delighted with the logical and calm assistance I received for him. I cannot believe that one phonecall can sort out £8K!

Watch out, this Company are a bunch of ...! Avoid at all costs. They double billed for every unit we used, sent a number of threatening legal letters, despite our genuine attempts to engage with them; told us we owed over £4800, and now, finally after months of stress and hassle, accept that actually the right bill is £840. The shame is the regulators let them get away with this. As if running a small business in England is not hard enough, we have this crooked and apparently unregulated energy supplier harassing and threatening us, when the error is all theirs. Cannot say how much I hope to never deal with SSE again.

Another instance of SSE significantly overbilling by over £2000 taking the money by direct debit and then making the client jump through hoops to get the money refunded.
Atrocious customer service even though I remained polite and respectful throughout.

AVOID SSE AT ALL COSTS, DREADFUL COMPANY
I am extremely annoyed and frustrated at the harassment and complete lack of customer service received from SSE, especially when I don’t have a contract with them in the first place!
My details were passed to them without my knowledge or permission when I bought land on 20/5/2025 with a battered falling down workshop containing 1 plug socket and ever since then I’ve only ever received invoices and threatening letters/texts with a totally hyped up and inflated standing charge.
Sales Department have NEVER contacted me to send a welcome letter or negotiate a contract or rates. I am now with Octopus who are amazing by the way, and I’ve phoned SSE 4 times to get this resolved saying that I’m happy to pay the business rates that Octopus are charging, but not the made up ones I had no idea of, but instead they send me a threatening text saying debt collectors will be involved and my credit rating effected if I don’t pay the made up amount charged. Utterly disgusting and wrong!
I have 2 complaint case numbers regarding this and was informed that someone would contact me after 2 days to discuss further. Instead I just get the threatening text and no phone call, so it’s obvious that making complaints makes no difference and is a complete waste of time and effort. I should be charging them for the time that I’ve wasted trying to resolve this, when I don’t even have a contract to begin with!
I will call again today after I've sent this and make the payment of what I believe is a fair amount (exactly the same as Octopus business rates) for the duration the electric supply has been with them and hope this resolves the matter once and for all, especially as I have NO CONTRACT with them and never been contacted by Sales Dept to create one.
Threatening me with debt collectors for something that has been paid in full is ridiculous and petty and will no doubt cost more money than what is being debated.
I believe that paying for the electric I’ve used at the exact rates that Octopus are charging me is completely fair and resolves this matter in full.
I just want to add that staff on the phone have tried to be helpful so I’m not faulting them, it’s SSE that are acting in an overhand and bullying way and should not be allowed to carry on trading when you look at how appalling their rating is on Trust Pilot. I would never have agreed to sign up if given the choice and Octopus are literally a 100% better company.
I refuse to have any further contact with SSE after today as my bill will be PAID IN FULL and I am now an Octopus customer.
Please anyone reading this, AVOID SSE AT ALL COSTS AND USE OCTOPUS INSTEAD. SSE ARE A BUNCH OF THUGS WITH NO ETHICS OR PERSONAL CARE!

Took 5 months to have the local community hall electricity reconnected where a smart meter was installed.
Received bills for standing charges when there was no electric being supplied to the premises as it was disconnected.
From the new connection I received a letter stating I was the new tennant and I was on the Variable base rate which was a lot higher than contracts available. They advised me to contact them to arrange cheaper rates.
I contacted them on multiple occasions being advised that someone would contact me to discuss the account but never heard back.
As time progressed I continued calling always being asked for my last bill (which I never received) and every time contacted the company was asked for a meter reading (although a new smart meter had been installed) and informed a bill would be generated and would be sent in the next few days. Also a contracts manager would be in touch.
No bill ever arrived as promised.
December 21st 2024 arrived and the old treasure who is an oap telephoned me in tears saying she was being persued for electricity supplied to the hall although SSE had been made aware she had no connection from the hall and I had a letter stating that I was the new account holder. I was then threatened I was liable for those costs which included standing charges for when there was no electricity being supplied.
I was lied to on multiple occasions and upon receiving multiple official complaints I received no update.
I spoke to contract managers on several occasions informing them of my concerns of not being able to sign up to a lower rate. I was informed several times that there was a problem on the system and someone would contact me shortly which again never happened,
After many more calls I finally spoke to an adviser who informed me my account had been frozen and that is why I received no bills. The adviser stated he unfrozen it and I would receive bills. He wasn't lying I received 13 bills 2 days later for the same date range with all different amounts ranging from £18000 to £0.
Upon speaking to a contracts adviser I was informed the bills could not be backdate to the more favourable rates unless I signed up for another years contract.
I spoke to the collections team who agreed this was unfair and they would be backdated.
When I contacted them they informed me there was no record of that call and made out I was a liar.
To cut it short they are totally incompetent verging on criminal. Through no fault of my own I was unable to sign up to a lower contract rate from the beginning and I was threatened through entrapment and coercseion to sign a new contract.
Avoid at all costs.

SSE plc direct debited us £19,428.46 for an empty building for which they had been taking £198.74. The staff genuinely try their best, but SSE boss “Sir” John Manzoni has previous form. Just Google “John Manzoni 15 dead and 170 injured at BP plant” - Better still, just Google “Calum’s List” to see the start of the removal of SSE plc assets via the Land Reform Act and Community Empowerment Act. It is obvious by this Trustpilot page and the terrible rating plus distressing reviews that Manzoni et al., have little interest in the reputation of SSE plc. It appears that the hard work done by OFGEM and resultant £33,000,000 FINES imposed on SSE plc are just the “cost of doing (greedy) business” to Manzoni. Witness his conduct when he complained about losing a day of his holiday having to go and see about the 15 dead people his previous company, BP had killed. Callous behaviour that dishonours a knighthood. Manzoni should resign and hand back that knighthood. As for SSE plc, the company has done serious harm and that triggers a Community Purchase statute. SSE plc CEO Alastair Phillips-Davies has already bailed out after scr*wing SSE plc bill-payers for a £4,500,000 golden pay cheque. Nope, enough is enough. Please take time to register your complaint here on Trustpilot. Or if you want to support chunks of SSE plc assets being removed from that company and run PROPERLY and without corporate greed as the North Star, then Google the “Calum’s List” website. It is being rebuilt just now, but the charity registration documents and CIC pack have arrived. Let some fairness apply to this 1.5 Trustpilot star company (SSE plc). P.S. Childish Behaviour
Just had a call from this company, explaining they’re not calling to sell me something, but just need 30 seconds of my time. Told the man I was unfortunately at work, and cannot talk at this moment, but he’s free to call me later on today. He then abruptly put down the phone. Clearly on commission from sales on phone calls, and not getting anything from me. No longer willing to give them the time of day!! Childish behaviour.

I was in hospital for eight days. I kept topping up the electricity on my phone from hospital and I thought that if I wasn't accurate the company would let me build up a little debt as they had in the past.
WRONG.
While I was away these scumbags turned off my electricity. No notifications, nothing. So I've come back from the hospital to no power and a fridge full of rotten food.
SSE, YOUR GREED HAS ABSOLUTELY CROSSED A LINE. THIS IS NOT HOW YOU TREAT PEOPLE.

Inside information - Tbh, I cant be bothered to tell the story but in a nutshell, the problems are all due to a system migration in 2023 and it's still not resolved.

Vile people. Absolute scam and scums! Although our business paid sum of thousnds of pound, they want to bill us another £500 for a week after paying them £3300 !!!) again for (no reason (we use the smallest amount of electrics ONLY 2 hours a day for 5 days a week and it includes lights in 4 room and fans during the hotbseasin...THAT IS IT. They would NOT accept any of our readings nor would they let us switch to another supplier. They need to be seriously shut down or prosecuted.

Following a call to SSE customer service on 7th July '25... a Big thank you for support and assistance from Ariba Shaikh. We had an issue with our quarterly bill and the huge amount of money in the bill we received, we know this is an error. The first person we spoke to at SSE was not helpful at all and only created more anxiety and stress for us. However on 2nd time of calling we got through to Ariba Shaikh, and after Ariba listened to our issue, she then assessed and provided very helpful feedback on our situation, which also gave reassurance and peace of mind. Ariba also reached our to her partner teams in SSE Energy on our behalf, explaining our situation, and providing references numbers for when we have to follow up. For now we have a case pending and waiting for SSE to indicate next steps. Thank you again to Ariba Shaikh for advising us and we hope your exemplary customer service at this initial stage of our
enquiries will lead to good outcome..... where we and SSE are both good with the outcome.
Unefficient customer service staff
Four times I called to customer service new contract department team always either they hung up me or picked the call and didnt talk to me instead were speaking to each other what waste of time despite i was looking to become tveir customer but now too disappointed I hope the owner of this company make some investigations and find out himself and improve the customer service otherwise they will get bankrupt.

When are companies going to take feedback seriously? I just had a letter threatening disconnection for the sum of £65.66. Why? Because SSE cancelled our direct debit! We didn't notice because for years SSE has simply taken the payment. They didn't. Suddenly it's our fault. Pasted from SSE's email:

Thank you for your email. I have checked your account and can see that due to technical error your Direct Debit was deactivated.
I have rectified this for you going forward; however, I have noted that you have sent a payment over to us via Cheque in reference to the current outstanding balance of £69.40.
That should offset against this value however if you do notice anything unusual in the interim, please do get in touch so we can investigate this further for you.
I would like to apologise for any inconvenience that this has caused.

Horrible people
Absolutely disgusting..my business opened a genuine dispute over a bill, they would not accept readings and refused to send someone to check meter....now they have turned up unannounced, gained entry without a warrant and cut off the supply, the only access is through an electric shutter which we can't open so now can't get in....they wouldn't let us set up a payment plan as stated on their own website...so my business is now closed and 10 people are out of work...after spending all afternoon on the phone to sse they are simply not interested

Although it has been tough dealing with SSE since the rollout of their new CRM, Evolve, I dealt with a lovely and, more importantly, efficient young lady named Ritika Nakra. You are an asset to SSE, thanks for your help.
APPALLING SERVICE.
Brand new contract with SSE. Within weeks they changed the prices for standng charge from 39p to £1.39p PER DAY and I told them *** and went elsewhere. Every bill is estimated and they refused my meter reading and now are suing me for £150 they claim I owe and yet they have NEVER accepted meter readings and is all estimated. THEY BROKE THE CONTRACT and then offer a disgraceful service with giving you phone numbers ti ring that do not exist, leaving you on hld for 20 minutes and then cutting you off, and never once accepting meter readings and everything is estimated.
GO ELSEWHERE.
