Isn't it frustrating when a company says it will call back for your review and you actually want to give a positive review but they don't call back? Well thank for Trustpilot.
After months of chasing around and around SSE's mulberry bush by email, I reluctantly decided to phone.
Not surprised to be told 'High volume' it will take an age, that's why I emailed and that took months!!!!
I was surprised to be answered almost immediately by Kate who skillfully stated by disarm my angry frustration, confirmed SSE already had all the necessary information they need on me, and gave me what I wanted.
Wow! After month of being palmed off and ghosted, I could have fallen in love on the phone. or at least felt I'd made a friend.
So credit were credit is due. Thank you Kate and I might even stay with SSE now. Al I need is a competitive fixed price annual contract

Utterly utterly useless. They keep sending letters to the wrong address. When I tried to change supplier they closed my account. Luckily its an empty building; but now its seems impossible to reenergise the building.
I deal with several other companies for electricity / water/gas; but SSE are in a league of their own for lack competence. Inevitably the online form they send is the wrong one; but there is no indication of what you are applying for; then you get refused for something you didnt want in the first place; and start again.

This Company is a Criminal Enterprise. The Government should step in to address how this Company has given the worst Customer service for an essential commodity and extorted money from consumers and behaved like ignorant thugs. All Shareholders should be aware they are supporting a criminal energy Company who for all their 'Green' lies are robbing the people with an air of being above the Law as the Ombudsman is in effective against them. In 3 years they couldn't even get my address right when I contacted them maybe 30 times over 3 years and have paid £1,000's for a very small amount of electricity because of their Deceit and Uselessness. Avoid af All costs. They are robbing Small Businesses.
The absolute worst energy provider in the UK
My experience with SSE has been nothing short of a bureaucratic nightmare, defined by gross financial overcharging and a startling lack of accountability. Over a three-year period, my company was exorbitantly overcharged. Despite our best efforts to rectify the situation, the company’s internal processes seem designed to obstruct resolution rather than facilitate it.
The most frustrating aspect was SSE’s active refusal to engage in meaningful dialogue. We made every possible effort to update the account name to ensure proper legal and administrative alignment. Instead of assisting with this routine transition, SSE used it as a shield to ignore our disputes, effectively silencing us while they continued to levy incorrect charges.
The escalation tactics used by SSE are predatory. While the billing dispute was ongoing, the company bypassed professional mediation and resorted to threatening me personally with a County Court Judgment (CCJ). This attempt to bypass corporate liability and intimidate an individual over a disputed business debt is a clear indicator of their ethical standards.
The "goodwill" gesture offered through the Energy Ombudsman was an insult. The proposed settlement was structured in such a way that our company would have still ended up paying SSE more money than was actually owed.
Furthermore, the Ombudsman proved to be entirely ineffective. Rather than acting as an impartial mediator, they appeared to facilitate SSE’s malpractices, failing to address the evidence of overcharging or the aggressive collection tactics employed against us.
Bottom Line: SSE has demonstrated a complete lack of corporate responsibility. They rely on administrative stonewalling and legal intimidation to maintain overcharged accounts. I would strongly advise any business to seek an alternative provider that values transparency and follows standard regulatory ethics.
Avoid at all cost
Avoid at all cost. They are thieves, we have 3 light bulbs in our common area, on timers. £300 for one quarter! we tried to understand why, apparently due to the pricing and nothing we could do about it. We've switched to Octopus, do the same ASAP!

Worked here a while a go, defended the company online and ad a thanks, got suspended for 2 weeks, but got 14 days of pay taken....glad its a dumster fire.
Awful company
Awful company! Don't care about their customers. They don't show for appointments, or even book them even though you spoke with them. They leave a family with a toddler in a house with no gas! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

poor communication. As executor of an estate they were the worst organization to deal with by far. uncompetitive pricing. Rarely follow through with what they say they will do - everything needs chasing and follow up. Many wasted hours dealing with them. useless.

Took three weeks at my old electricity providers undiscounted prices at the coldest time of the year for them to bother to switch my account. Cost me over 150. Why did they make me go down to the basement to get the reading on the switching date? As soon as my contract is up I won’t be back
SSE is a completely useless company
SSE is a completely useless company, IMHO. I am treasurer of a village hall in Wiltshire. The so-called "smart" meter hasn't been working for months. SSE keep sending estimated readings. I have phoned them repeatedly to ask them to replace the meter, but they do nothing and keep coming up with requirements for me to supply readings - utterly stupid, as the meter isn't working. It routinely takes me 30 minutes to gewt through to them and the person dealing with the complaint is lazy and useless.

Quite frankly these are probably the worse bunch of human beings around! Left our family including our disabled son without power so we couldn’t feed him and hoist him out of his wheelchair let alone get him in the house after digging up half of our driveway and blocking our front door just to do a simple joint connection!! They have left an absolute mess and are no interested whatsoever when you phone them!!
Still waiting for a response for incorrect billing/ debt collection after 2.5 years....
This is my third appalling review for SSE because I receive some partial communication from them (only in response to awful Trustpilot reviews) and when I email back with a specific question, I do not get a response. I have tried calling but after being on hold for over 20 minutes, here I am again attempting to get a response...
I recently wrote a review in December on behalf a friend who passed away in November 2025 and his widow about an issue that was ongoing for 2.5 years where SSE had continued taking money for a meter that had been removed and even though the ombudsman had ruled in favour of my friend, SSE had failed to make the appropriate repayments and he/ then his widow were being chased by SSE's debt collection partners. We have had a partial resolution - the year of incorrectly billed money has been returned with a goodwill payment for SSE's error however we have not had an response to the debt collection payments which were made (the debt collection were erroneously chasing/ hounding my friends widow in the aftermath of his death). It is shocking that once again I have needed to resort to Trustpilot in an attempt to get SSE to put right this issue. Can someone (there is a named person dealing with this complaint but I don't want to detail here for privacy purposes however this is a bit of a joke now) please look at this as a matter of urgency? Can this be escalated please? This is making a dreadful situation worse.
