Dreadful app. Almost as bad as relying on Royal Mail
Dreadful, dysfunctional app, presumably designed by unsupervised work experience children. Every use is a dangerous risk to my already high blood pressure. Confusing, badly written, poorly signposted, often unavailable.
Need to sack em all, employ some pros and start again.
Face to face with medical staff, NHS is excellent. Admin, tech, comms, as well as some waiting lists, undermine them.
NHS APP LOG IN ISSUES AND WHEN ABLE TO COULDN'T ACCESS ANY INFORMATION
I received an email advising that a referral appointment has been booked and I can get the details by logging into my NHS app. Using the link provided wouldn't allow me to log in. I went to the app on my I pad and again no luck. However when I pressed back, or home (can't remember) I discovered that I was logged in. However there was no point because attempts to look at any information provided nothing. When I am using the app I don't find it easy to navigate and not only is there the NHS app but we have Patients Know Best and Patches.
I can't understand why my email couldn't have displayed my appointment details.
UPDATE 23 APRIL 2026 2.28pm. An absolute disgrace. Still unable to access and if you want NHS technical support GOOD LUCK. It seems you can only get that by filling in an online form. I found a number for NHS England. Finally got to choose option 5. Then was offered another set of options. This time option 6.Spoke with a lovely advisor who explained the APP is DOWN. They do not do technical support but have had to endure complaints all morning. Given the government is desperate to have everything digital God help us. Considering the NHS app is now a vital support tool forced onto us surely it's important enough to have an alert system in place that send a message via email or text to advise of technical problems. I'm fed up and disgusted at the atrocious entire broken system.
Impossible to log in
Impossible to log in. The help button is anything but helpful. It just says access denied. Not good enough.

The new layout is awful does not let you assess some GP notes like the old layout did. Harder to use bring back the old layout please
I transfered to this because Patient Access went down. This is worse
I transfered to this because Patient Access went down. They now have me with the wrong christian name. I now have prescriptions in the wrong name. No record of hospital attendance or future referrals.
Completely frustrating
Completely frustrating. I expect many people will suffer in silence due to this ridiculous system. Yes it works for repeat prescriptions, mostly, but trying to book an appointment is difficult.
Waste of time never kept up to date…
Waste of time never kept up to date keeps buffeting and you can't get off and start again while it's buffeting nhs ripped off again as usual top people getting thousands for sitting on their fat ##### probably never use it (private cover) no 12 month wait for them for consultation then 12 more months for the
treatment
Lost all confidence in this App
Although I love the convenience of the NHS app. Its of no use if the GP's and Pharmacist don't use it correctly or they are not getting the information required to complete a simple repeat prescription. On numerous occasions both me and my family, have done a repeat prescription request only to arrive at the pharmacy two weeks later (not having received a text saying its ready) to be told there is no prescription ordered. We know we raised a request as the app will not allow us to order more. Then you have to start the whole process again and wait a week without heart medication because someone has not clicked the box. Notification are needed that the GP has authorised the request and the Pharmacist have received the request and the prescription will be ready for collection in 5 working days. SIMPLE. That is the only way you'll know when to visit the pharmacy to collect.
NHS App is useless!
I received a text saying that there's a new message for me in the NHS App.
1) I do NOT have / use the NHS !
2) I called my GP surgery who know absolutely nothing about any message
3) being able to have a quick look at the App - like most things in thi country - it's completely useless. It says on upcoming appointments ( 4 for next week!) Action needed.
That's nonsense: I use my hospital's EPR and have confirmed those appointments ages ago.
Another mess by the NHS - which will cause confusion and upset to many patients!!
This NHS app sucks
I always thought the Gov website was the worse ever until I tried to use this useless pile of crap, I think a child of 5 or less could have made a better app. It never let's you get an appointment, it only tells me to go waste the ER at 3 different hospitals. My local doctors surgery has had a massive upgrade on the building and now there are no doctors willing to do anything for the money they get paid.
Useless
Useless - have to keep signing in. Can find what information need easily. Ridiculously over complicated.
I have a data breach on my account…
I have a data breach on my account shared my personal information and also put somebody else’s medical record on my account . Contacted GP and NHS app nobody wants to deal with it .
This is serous and disgusting that nobody is concerned !!!!!!
Absolute waste of time and money
System can't even connect to GP to interact. Nothing works. Deep down in the NHS basement is a dark locked room. In that room is a very drunk baboon with a keyboard. Welcome to the NHS IT department.
The new update is useless the layout is…
The new update is useless the layout is rubbish and gp health records can’t be found and all data missing. Why can’t you leave things alone.
ABSOLUTELY USELESS!
Absolute rubbish! What’s the point of this app? Only very basic info from GP surgery is on it, which is often incorrect and/or incomplete. If referred to and/or seen by any other practitioner not in the surgery, you’ll never find any correspondence , notes or test results on it as the systems don’t “talk to each other”. The eye watering £££££s that must have been and continue to be wasted on this could have been far better spent on patient care and treatments.
USELESS
Garbage
Download it upload ID then another photo of me exactly the same and this crap says cant recongnise it.
Wont be using this rubbish again, not worth the hassle it a total joke and no doubt fake
No help
App is brilliant until there is a problem, my e mail was hacked is now frozen i can't close my old nhs account or change it to a new email as I can't access old email acc I have sent many emails explaining this to the laughabley called helpdesk........Nada. Come on ffs close my account so I can start again
NHS App update a huge step backwards
How an earth NHS can say the March update has made the App easier to use is beyond me . They need to fix what they’ve broken . Where current app users involved in the update / I suspect not .
This was such an easy to use intuitive App before they meddled with it . It’s practically useless now & a huge step backwards .
You NHS idiots ..
You NHS idiots ... app was wonderful before and now I can't find anything.... nhs idiots taking money from our tax and nin payment... why you need change it .... just laid off your main it manager ... he is complete imbecile .... terrible
Bureaucratic gatekeeping- wastes everyone’s time and stops you seeing a doctor
Clearly, the current NHS App/online system is designed to reduce GP appointments rather than genuinely help patients. It acts as an effective gatekeeper: if you persist long enough you might get what you need; many people simply give up, ignore symptoms, head to A&E, or stop treatment altogether.
My latest experience trying, to continuing a prescription, is typical and perfectly illustrates the problem:
I completed a long, largely irrelevant online questionnaire.
The next day, waiting by the phone for a call, I received an automatic email rejection: “No, you can’t have that.”
I tried to book a proper appointment on the app — blocked with the message “you cannot request prescriptions this way.”
I walked into the surgery. The receptionist told me “you should be able to do this on the app,” then submitted the request manually while making me feel in the wrong.
Now I have no idea whether a prescription has been approved or not. No notification will be given. If nothing appears at the pharmacy in 5 days (as I suspect), I get to walk back in and start the whole process again and see if I can actually see a doctor.
Ten years ago, this was simple: a quick phone call or word with the receptionist, a short appointment (often same or next day), the GP - who knew you - would check what was needed (quick exam if required), and the matter was sorted in minutes.
Today, what used to take 5–10 minutes of doctor time has turned into hours of patient and receptionist effort - questionnaires, dead-end messages, conflicting advice, repeated visits and phone calls - with no guarantee of success.
The system is highly inefficient, stressful, and confusing. It is actively driving patients away from routine care. (For anxious, elderly, less tech-savvy or time-poor people it is simply inaccessible.) The end result? More serious conditions downstream, more cost, more pressure on A&E, and an enormous waste of time for everyone.
This is not a teething problem with the app. It is a policy choice that has replaced a straightforward, human process with an over-engineered bureaucratic mess.
The digital-first approach is working brilliantly at one thing: reducing productive GP appointments. Unfortunately, it is doing so at the expense of timely, safe patients care.
