I purchased my garden building from Johnsons about 8 years ago from the Thurrock branch and recently decided to change the paint colour to maintain the building, can we just say thank you to the lovely ladies at the branch who have help us getting new paint, we are still in love with our little summer house and are so please with it after all these years, we have now recommended our daughter to get one for her teenage son as a den. Thank you again Johnsons.

We have a very expensive garden room that is slowly rotting as it is constructed with wood which is not really fit for purpose. It is not pressure treated or dip treated like even most basic sheds. It warps with changes in temperature. Despite being externally treated at installation and topped up with good quality paint as suggested by Johnsons themselves it still leaks through knots (of which there are many) and at the corners. Asking them for advice on repairing the building, they are asking for £200 to have a look. I would not recommend this company or their products.

I had a garden building installed by Johnsons Garden Buildings in 2022, and sadly, the experience has been frustrating and disappointing from the start. While I was understanding of the initial delay, things happen, but the issues that followed were unacceptable.

The first team that arrived seemed professional and assured me all was going well. However, the following day, a completely different team showed up and revealed the first team had botched the base entirely. They had to start over, which I accepted as mistakes happen. What I could not accept was discovering later (on security camera footage) that instead of properly disposing of the concrete from the first attempt, they hid it under the new base.

I raised this with customer services, and while they sent a team to address it, they only removed a few handfuls of concrete, leaving most of it under the structure and scattered around my garden. Further complaints resulted in more visits but no proper resolution. When I escalated to an area manager, I was told that removing all the concrete would require lifting the flooring, which they refused to do. The justification? “They’re builders; that’s just what they do.” This response was incredibly unprofessional, especially given Johnsons’ claims that proper airflow under the cabins is crucial for longevity.

The fittings used for the cabin also appear to be of poor quality. The door handle rusted within a few months, and the latches provided (but not installed) were so cheaply made that the screw heads snapped as I tried to fix them by hand. Johnsons chalks a lot of stuff down to "normal maintenance".

The electrician subcontracted by Johnsons had been instructed to install a lower-consumption electrical supply than what I had paid for. Thankfully, I questioned this and had it corrected, but this felt like yet another corner they tried to cut, perhaps hoping I wouldn’t notice.

Shortly after installation, I noticed water pooling inside the cabin, dangerously close to an electrical socket. There was also a wonky window arch that the "resolution guy" admitted had no support behind it. While he attempted to fix these issues by applying silicone around the windows and roof, water ingress persisted. I later noticed that all the display models at Johnsons’ centers had silicone applied, leading me to believe this was another overlooked step during my installation.

The roofing felt was also poorly installed, with visible cut marks and gaps along the edges. While a few tiles were replaced, the resolution team admitted the installers had likely used a circular saw improperly, leading to the poor finish. I was told it was normal to chop the edges instead of cutting a nice flush edge (like the showroom sheds).

Two years later, I’ve paid off the cabin, but issues persist. Water continues to pool inside, even when it hasn’t rained, not sure if this is due to rising damp with a the concrete they dumped underneath. The laminate flooring is perpetually cold and damp, and the cabin constantly has high humidity levels, even with a dehumidifier running.

I love the cabin itself, but every time I use it, I’m left with a bitterness due to the ongoing damp issues and poor workmanship. I know that it's just not going to last as long as it should with these issues. The sales team have always been friendly and helpful to their credit. The whole installation process though was unprofessional, despite Johnsons’ website claims that they use approved professional builders. Between the hidden concrete, damage to my garden, cheap materials, and botched repairs, this experience has fallen far short of expectations for a premium price! I still have concrete under my cabin, which is perhaps contributing to the ongoing damp issues!

If you’re considering a cabin from Johnsons, I’d strongly recommend being extremely vigilant during the installation and following up on every detail. Sadly, I can’t recommend them whatsoever based on my experience.

The initial customer service via the Colchester branch was excellent, however the subsequent fitting and aftercare has
terrible.
We had two fitters and they completed the garden room in two days. It was clearly too much to get done in the timescale and they were with us until well into the evening on both days which meant the sign off was made in reduced visibility. The next day we noticed that the laminate floor was bouncy. We also realised that the patio doors don’t close properly and the lock won’t engage.
We contacted customer services twice but still haven’t heard back which is very disappointing.
On the basis of our experience, I definitely won’t recommend this company

We’re absolutely delighted with our new garden office build from the Thurrock branch. Lewis and Micky were fantastic from start to finish — professional, friendly, and incredibly hardworking. The quality of the workmanship is excellent, and the whole process was smooth and stress-free. They paid great attention to detail and delivered exactly what we wanted. Michelle was also extremely helpful throughout the process, always keeping us informed and making everything easy to manage. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Thurrock team to anyone looking for a high-quality garden office.

I am not sure what I can say about the staff at Johnson's that will do them justice. Ever since we started looking for a garden room their office staff have been there throughout. They helped us understand the process and worked with us to find the right room at the right price. Then we had a visit from one of their surveyors who was absolutely brilliant. He let us know when he would arrive and was prompt, polite and not at all pushy!

I haven't had my room installed yet (3 more weeks to wait) but I just needed to give a huge thanks to the office team (Natalie, Suzanne, Michelle and Henry). They are truly awesome 😎

The place is really clean and tidy. And the customer service was on point. Polite and very helpful. The name of the sales representative was Michelle who literally helped through the whole process. I’m extremely satisfied. The branch is the Thurrock branch. Keep up the good work!!!

The build was efficiently completed in a matter of days and of excellent quality. Joe and Graham (the team from Johnson's) were very personable and considerate.

Highly recommended! This company were just great, from start to finish. Their customer service was excellent, communication was frequent, and the installation was slick and expertly handled. The garden room itself, is to such a high standard, my friend actually called it ‘the Rolls Royce of garden rooms!’ We visited a lot of suppliers, and Johnsons were, hands down, the best quality for the best price. Their aftercare was excellent too. After we had a little accident with the wood stain, they couldn’t do enough to help. 5 stars 🌟

We spent a week looking at options for garden buildings until we came across Johnsons Garden Buildings. We visited the Thurrock Branch and knew we wanted to go with them straight away. Being able to see their garden buildings on site was great to give us a clear picture of what we wanted and the quality of their buildings. Michelle was so lovely and incredibly helpful, she accommodated all our needs and helped us design our bespoke garden building through every step of the way. We were able to design and confirm our bespoke order really quickly with Michelle's help. Henry also did a home visit to confirm measurements and made really helpful recommendations too. Really appreciated all their support and would highly recommend them. Location, staff and service was great. Thanks so much Michelle and Henry :)

I have written a view on Johnson’s Garden Buildings before, first time happy customer with the purchase and the construction. We were told to paint the protection on to the wood asap which we did with their sealant and paint. Then the leaks started I posted a comment and I was told to spend more money with them to put the problem right, I posted the experience and they did repair with no charge. Each year we have painted but still the leaks are there and today we had a professional painter and decorator in and told us the wood is only good for inside use NOT outside and all the bottom panels are rotten. I am left deeply upset and I really don’t want anyone else to have this experience, total waste of our hard earned cash, appalling quality.

If you’re looking for a company to buy your garden cabin from - look no further! Johnsons offer high quality products with first class customer service, this is my second experience having purchased a cabin for a previous property, it’s no wonder they are still going strong 8 years later, the Thurrock show room is well stocked and the help I received from Michelle in the office went beyond my expectations, thank you! Looking forward to using my new space 🏡

From the outset Zac at the Gosport site was really great with a very positive attitude and claimed me down when he visited. The communication. Throughout was exceptional from him to. The lads that erected the building were brilliant and worked so fast as did the electrician. The eye for detail was amazing. The final painting took some time due to bad weather but over a week we had painted it to the required standard. We love our new chill out room now it is full of furniture etc.

I was passing by and the so called owner of ‘Johnson’s Garden Rooms’ on the premises of Alver Valley Garden Centre in Gosport, was very rude and condescending over a personal conversation that he’d overheard, so there’s no way I’m shopping there.

From start to finish the service, product and build was excellent, thoroughly impressed with Zak (who couldn’t do enough to help) and the build crew were superb, would highly recommend a 1st class product from a first class company.

We purchased a Vancouver Compact, back in October 2024. We delayed the build of the structure to be sure of better weather in Spring 2025. We visited the dealership several times from the time of purchase to delivery, to ask questions as we didn’t feel that we were given all the information we needed. The information we were given, is that the whole process will take 2 days, but his is not the case. The build took more than two weeks to be completed.
There were three other trades involved, in addition to the initial build: plasterers, electricians and climate control. All on different dates, with a need to allow gaps between them (3 days between plasterer and electrician). We knew nothing of this prior to the start of the build. We had three different companies phoning for dates, all lof which had to be in a specific order.
We had a painter pre-booked to paint the structure, but had to re-book him for a week later, due to the additional trades we knew nothing about.
We also had issues over the quality of the build. After a few weeks, a gap appeared at the back of the structure, so sunlight was shining through where the joists meet the roof. We complained and although this was fixed (apparently temporarily) a bigger gap appeared a few months later which required a more permanent fixing, with additional wood being added to close the gap that had appeared. We have also had problems with the doors not closing. We received instruction on how to adjust the doors but this was not easy, and we ended up paying an independent carpenter to adjust the doors, so we could close them fully.
In summary; the information given by the sales team was incorrect. Regardless of how many times questions were asked, we still received the same information, that the build would be completed in two days. We would not recommend Johnsons to friends or family.

Constructive and solution focused site evaluation. Harlow site easy to get to and staff on site to discuss any questions arising.

We have just ordered our garden building. Michelle and the team at Thurrock have been really helpful. Henry was really good with advice on the site survey and other choices. Looking forward to the project completion.

We’ve been really impressed with the whole process so far. Natalie has been incredibly helpful and endlessly patient — especially while my husband and I debated every last detail! Henry came out for a site visit in very wet conditions, was knowledgeable, practical, and helped us focus on the decisions that really mattered. We’re very happy with how everything’s been handled by the Thurrock branch and are really looking forward to the installation.
