Useless in Welwyn
Useless in Welwyn, happy to say they aren't JL but David Clulow, sky high prices and you don't feel you are dealing with JL. Why not then just brand as DC?
Absolutely useless
Absolutely useless, (Milton Keynes) been using this opticians for years but now I’d suggest avoiding them like the plague if you want your glasses to be ready before you need to renew your prescription! Ordered one pair of glasses and one pair of sunglasses in July (around £700 spent), finally received the glasses in September, sunglasses didn’t arrive and I was originally told I didn’t order them, even though I had the receipt in my hand. Another pair was ordered which finally arrived in October (great timing for sunglasses!). After complaining to John Lewis directly I was offered a complimentary pair of glasses, these were ordered at the beginning of September and still haven’t arrived. I’ve given up, won’t be a customer again!
Update as of January 2025, still waiting for the glasses ordered September 2024
Very mixed customer service
Eye test carried out by J Lewis Opticians (David Clulow) at Westfield Stratford just over a month ago. The eye test was completed competently by a very pleasant optician. Other staff were friendly and helped me choose frames and go through costings. I was told my glasses would take about two weeks to arrive which is standard and they would let me know. Unfortunately, after this I heard nothing. After three and a half weeks I phoned them. They had my glasses, and I suspect had had them for some time, but clearly no one had bothered to let me know. The optician still needed to check them and they would let me know as soon as this was done. Once again I heard nothing and phoned back after 36 hours. The glasses were ready for collection but once again no one had bothered to contact me. My impression is that J Lewis Opticians do well when it comes to face to face interaction with customers but fall down badly when it comes to basic follow up communication, something I found quite frustrating. Would I go there again? Maybe, but only with the assumption that I would be forced to chase and chivy to get updates. This is not a problem I have experienced with any other optician.
Good range of frames and attentive…
Good range of frames and attentive helpful staff.
Tucked away in a corner of the store but worth a visit.
Not interested in reglazing their own supplied frames
Really annoyed with JL opticians in Cheadle. Bought my frames from them 2 years ago. Got a new lens prescription from another optician and took glasses and prescription to them to replace the lenses. All they were interested in was trying to sell me new frames …..really hard sell and when they finally gave me a price for putting single vision lenses in to my frame … it was a ridiculous quote Deliberately priced to make new inferior frames look cheapest option. Walked out in disgust.
John Lewis, a brand you can trust?
I went to John Lewis opticians in Kingston, because John Lewis is what I regarded as a trusted brand. Every interaction I had resulted in poor or zero follow-up. Two weeks on, I requested a refund . Clearly, I should have read these reviews first. Very disappointing
Excellent in store team
I went to David Clulow opticians in John Lewis Oxford for an eye test and new glasses. I had a very thorough eye test which included an assessment of my eyewear needs. I had excellent service and help with choosing the best and most stylish glasses options for me. The best service I have had at an opticians. A great experience.
Poor service, withheld personal data about my eye test
Unable to obtain all of my prescription unless you bought glasses. This is a problem if you need additional glasses purchased elsewhere. Go to Boots or a more experienced provider otherwise your options to access personal data about your eye test are constrained and likely in breach of GDPR regulations. Any information held about my eyes belongs to me and should be available. I don't for a second accept they are concerned about what another service might do in selling glasses. Over priced, receives payment from the NHS for tests and unable to put the customer first. Give it a miss. Better deals to be had at Boots. Better glasses to be had at McGraths.
You don't get what you pay for!
If there were no stars I would use it as this would be the outcome from a recent experience at John Lewis Opticians in Oxford. They have made mistakes after mistakes since I ordered my glasses back in March 2024 and as of today this has still not been rectified. it turns out that I have not got the lenses I paid for but a cheaper option that could be classed as fraud as they sold one thing but delivered a cheaper option that I was not informed about. Do not be fooled by the John Lewis name, they are NOT John Lewis but some big faceless company. You have been warned.
Terrible customer service in Milton…
Terrible customer service in Milton Keynes. Ordered new lenses for my daughter. Waited over three weeks and called repeatedly with no answer. How is that acceptable to have no way to leave a message and the phone just rings endlessly? Finally reached someone that didn’t know where they were but said “we’ve just got an order in and they might be in the back waiting to be sorted.” Come to find out they’d been lost back there for the last couple weeks “waiting to be checked.” The manager said they have no system for follow-up on orders currently so they never saw they’d lost anything. How does a large high optical dept not have a system in place to review and complete orders?? It’s really astounding how terrible their CS is and sad thing is the prior employees were excellent but somehow in the last few months they replaced the entire team?? That should say a lot of what’s going on and to take your money elsewhere. It’s way too much money for such poor clueless CS.
A great team
A great team , from gathering information , eye examination to selecting of suitable frames and lenses . Very impressed with time given at every stage of process, with special mention to Sharon, Mohamed and Monica .
Appalling customer service at Oxford
Appalling customer service at John Lewis Opticians at Westgate (Oxford). I was served by two different people on 16 July and spoke with the manager on 17 July. The problems included: first and foremost, very rushed service (the place needs to shut down if people need to go for lunch rather than rushing a customer), all lindberg glasses on the shelves were unclean, one of the individuals telling me how my choice would violate lindberg policies (which he could not explain properly and I am sure it was wrong as I have never heard anything like this before), divergent estimations on when glasses will be ready(from 1 week to 6 weeks), all the three having their own interpretation whether John Lewis membership gives a discount on lenses, the provision of warranty document refused (after requesting this from the manager), the provision of returns policy refused (after requesting this from the manager). As a remedy to these, I asked the manager if she would ensure I receive my glasses in 2 weeks and she said she cannot.
I would avoid at all costs
I would avoid at all costs
- Was told on arrival that they give my appointment away because I was late. Challenge this and said, arrived on time. They then said someone had taken my appointment , challenged again as I was the only one in the shop . They just wanted to sit in the office and have a free break. t
- so I had to get my eyes tested by the optician that just lied to me, and I’ve been pulled up by the customer service manager to make sure I will see. Very quiet and uncomfortable situation.
- placed an order for three pairs of glasses on a 5 to 10 day turnaround. They knew this was a tight deadline for me as I was going on holiday and not having them would really be disappointing and frustrating. They committed to pull out all the stops and and advised it would be 10 days which I had time to wait.
- I had to follow up daily for an update.
- The day before holiday, with still no glasses I called them only to be told the order was placed a week late and I wouldn’t see my glasses . They blame this on me for not providing them with my prescription. My argument was they did my prescription so I didn’t accept this. Left the call and left for holiday with no glasses.
- 3 weeks back from holiday still no phone calls. Still no glasses still no escalation to the area manager still no confidence in John Lewis all their partners for a for my glasses.
- I’d be really concerned if I was John Lewis for this affecting my credibility.
Really disappointed
Really disappointed. Bought 2 pairs of glasses in December 23. Loved the selection of glasses. But the lenses have been awful. Had to have them replaced in March which to be fair they did FOC but now they need replacing again. Just not fit for purpose as they scratch and go murky so easily. I accept I didn’t pay the extra £200 plus for protection but they are seriously not good enough. I called today and was quoted over £400 for lense replacements. Don’t think I will be back John Lewis.
Having paid a significant sum for my…
Having paid a significant sum for my glasses it would seem this company are unwilling to sort out my glasses and are now withholding them. Strange as I paid for them. Just awful service with what appears to be a complete lack of interest in sorting my glasses. I could not recommend them as the test is when something goes wrong (in this case they fitted the wrong lenses) and they have failed miserably on every level. I’d just be extremely careful before parting with your money with this optician in John Lewis Milton Keynes.
Appalling customer service
Terrible, terrible customer service. I picked up a mark in a new set of glasses so went in to order a new pair. Good news; They reminded me that I had paid for their top lens package that covered me for a replacement and they kept the glasses in for replacements. 4 weeks later without the glasses and after two visits to check on progress I got the old ones back as they had no news on when the lesses would be available. Now 7 weeks with no communication and having been again in I’ve just been told that they still don’t have the lenses - with no further information. Manager would call later in the day; No call.
Terrible customer service
Terrible customer service at Oxford branch over the last 18 months. Used to be good. Now seem to use freelance opticians who work now and again not regular hours. The result has been multiple appointments cancelled at the last minute. The phone is not always manned in opening hours and there is no answer phone.
Absolutely terrible and untruthful opticians
I have to give 1 star as there is no stars less than 1 for the opticians in John Lewis, Glasgow.
My son went for an eye test and ordered Oliver Peoples glasses in size 47cm. He got a message 4 weeks after to say they were ready, this was after us chasing them up. They gave him 50cm and didn't even notify him of this change. We ordered 47cm for a reason.
We then had to wait another two weeks and whilst chasing them up again they eventually got the 47cm. However the screw for the glasses were forced in and now unable to change/adjust lens. This was only noticed after coming home, again they did not own up to this.
He felt the lens very strong and we decided to go to a different opticians to check his eyesight again.
The John Lewis prescription was completely different to the lens they gave him and in fact his eyesight test was completely different to theirs also.
Again we had to go back and this time they just gave us our money back.
We have been out of pocket having to go to the store numerous times, phone calls and they have had our money since 23rd March '24, it's now 13th May '24
I do not trust these opticians and they will never get our business again.
Thought it was a hard sell and poor technical service.
J Lewis Welwyn Garden City.
Thought it was a hard sell from the start.
They tried to push me towards frames that were £500 more expensive than the ones I was looking at.
Also told I have a cataract forming due to age but this was used to try and push me toward tinted lenses. Thought it was scare mongering!
I only wanted new frames but was told I needed a new prescription for reading and distance.
When I collected the new glasses they were very poor.
I was made to feel I was at fault because they didn't work.
Adjustment was made but still poor.
Asked for refund but had to insist quite strongly to get it.
5 visits in total.
Thought J Lewis would have been better than this.
Would not recommend them to anyone.
Went for eye test
Went for eye test, and was asked if I minded a student testing my eyes. Long story short this student totally messed it up and I'm told by one of their opticians that no one double checked my prescription. Was driving with the wrong prescription for months, headaches. Zero apologies, zero compensation when I complained, in fact a complete denial of the problem.
'John Lewis Opticians' is not actually a John Lewis owned company, it's actually owned by Luttoxica. Expensive and incompetent. I wish I had seen these reviews prior to purchase. Avoid, avoid, avoid!!!
