My children have been using French and Italian for a year or so. They really enjoy animated games, they also learned a lot of new words. The only thing is it would’ve been nice if they offered a discount for the second language. Other than that it’s really a great website and I would recommend it. Thank you

The courses are easy to understand and follow. I like the repetitive, correctional attention given to those exercises when you make mistakes.
There is a sense of accomplishment when you are cheered on by the funny and helpful pop ups!

I’m learning Portuguese on Duolingo but…
I’m learning Portuguese on Duolingo but after several months in and a purchased 1 year subscription I am told that it isn’t in fact Portuguese from Portugal I’m learning but Brazilian Portuguese.
No sign of European Portuguese available any time soon either.
Duolingo is very effective though. It makes practice fun.

Would have liked to have tried it
Would have liked to have tried it, but with kids learning multiple languages, I simply cannot afford to pay the subscription costs for each individual language (each language costing $15). There are many programs out there with one simple subscription amount and the ability to learn multiple languages or all available languages.

Childish Words Don't Build a Robust Vocabulary
The program is immersive, but their choice of words doesn't seem to set one up for success when speaking outside of the program. For instance, Dinolingo has the child learn the word for bird, as equivalent to using the word birdie. While adults speak to children this way, it's not how education systems teach native speakers in their institutions. Being that this is an educational program I would have expected a more academic choice of words.

The app fails to load from time to time…
The app fails to load from time to time and you need to delete it and reinstall it which is super annoying. They also stopped with the videos and songs after only a few lessons. The kids really enjoyed them and I was able to keep them focused longer when they mixed in videos. The coins have no value or purpose so the kids see how much coins they have but cannot use them to buy stickers or anything kids like. The dinos page sometimes doesn't load the dinos or is super slow because it cannot handle all the moving GIFs of the dinosaurs. Needs a lot of improvement.

Way better than Duolingo!
My family had been using Duolingo, but it just was so frustrating for our 8 year old trying to do the lessons and getting little things wrong. We searched for a more kid-friendly language app and found Dinolingo. In just the first few minutes of doing Dinolingo, she was engaged and having fun learning a new language! We had just signed up for a free trial and we loved it so we will be sticking with Dinolingo.
