I received a letter from Controlaccount…
I received a letter from Controlaccount for unpaid import duty for wines purchase online from Portugal. The information (I thought) from Fedex/TNT was for companies and not individuals. The information was not clear and trying to talk to someone was hard work.
So I learnt a valuable lesson re import duties etc.
The person I spoke to at Controlaccount was courteous and professional. She took the payment owed and answered a query I had....it was my error which led this company to my door!
Alot of the reviews online appear to be from disgruntled individuals and to be honest, I started out (on reading the letter) as an annoyed person. However, the fault is not with them. It is (a) my lack of understanding on duties owed when importing wine from Europe (b) less than clear information on Fedex/TNT paperwork (at one point, I was sure I was being scammed as the reference number was not recognised by one person (having to go online for a customer service number to call)...then another said "oh, that must be a TNT ref no - but FedEx and TNT are now the same company).
It's never fun having to pay extra, but this company merely recovers sums owed....anger or annoyance at them in most cases may probably be misdirected.

'Angela' at Control Finance was extremely helpful. I had paid a bill to FEDEX TRANSPORTATION in June 2025. My account had not been credited because apparently Fedex do not accept cheques! In fact their paperwork had given no details of methods to pay. In addition they had not contacted me or advised me. Instead they had referred me to a Debt Recovery Agency??? FEDEX should be ashamed of their customer service.I am very grateful to Angela who sorted everything quickly for me.

These People Need to be Closed Down
I have just been hung up on by a supposed control account operative who was rude and arrogant and actually told me they were on the toilet while they were speaking to me! I am a business owner and have been contacted by these people saying I must pay them money. From a no reply email address. There is no invoice to show what I owe or to whom unless I click on a link but how do I know this is legitimate - nobody clicks on unsolicited links. They don't apparently know my name or my business name as there is nothing in the email to show this. They said they had sent me a letter on the 8th but they have not. I have been given a reference number and told if I put it into their website with my postcode I will see information but this does not work - I tried it numerous times. I then phoned and gave the reference number and the rude, aggressive woman I spoke to said they would not tell me what I owed or to whom without me giving them all of my details. I refused saying I did not know who they were and that this could be a scam. They started screaming over me and then told me they were on the toilet and subsequently hung up on me! I've never known a company behave like this in my life! On my way to find out how I can make an official complaint about this - how do they expect people to pay money and give personal details when they have no idea what it is about? Will be screenshotting this as well as all other correspondence and will follow this through all the way to court if necessary because this behaviour cannot meet acceptable standards.
Absolutely Awful Experience – Rude, Predatory, and Unprofessional
Dealing with Control Account has been one of the most frustrating and unpleasant experiences I’ve ever had with a company. As a debt collection agency, you’d expect at least a minimum level of professionalism – unfortunately, that was completely absent here.
From the moment I engaged with them, their tone was aggressive and dismissive. They had no interest in reviewing any of the context I provided. Instead, they were quick to make outrageous demands for payment and used language that was shockingly unprofessional – including comments like “pay up,” which felt more like a threat than a discussion.
Rather than acting as a mediator or seeking to resolve the matter reasonably, they came across as predatory and rude, seemingly more interested in intimidation than resolution.
If you find yourself contacted by this company, be prepared for a deeply frustrating and one-sided interaction. I wouldn’t recommend Control Account to anyone – they’re unhelpful, disrespectful, and completely lacking in basic customer service skills.

Rip off Britain
I received a letter from these saying I owed x amount of money to fedex for a outstanding invoice which I never received. They had added 15 pound onto the original invoice which I have told them 4 times I have never received. When they sent me a copy of the invoice I knew what it was for but still had never been invoiced from fedex. I told the csd operative I will pay what the original invoice amount is which I might add is more than the item cost. They wasn't having that and wanted me to pay them as a debt collecting agency. I told them anyone can do that say an invoice was sent out and it wasn't and just collect money but I'm not having this rip off and will go to court if need be. Maybe rip off britain may be interested as well although I probably think they are aware of it.
Anyway I have paid my invoice for fedex and that is all I'm paying

Rude staff working at Control
Sean from Control called our Business , and asked a member of our Team who he needs to speak to about Debt Collection .. alarming our team thinking something wrong but We were incorrectly invoiced, not for our company but a British business and have explained this over phone and email this for over a year. So we are not paying an invoice not for our business Sean , kept interrupting, was rude and kept saying he was from Control, Control , repeating this and then asked the owner does have trex....
