Clayton Hotel, Cambridge - great visitor experience
Having had to cancel our eagerly anticipated overseas holiday for which we've been saving for a long time, we have had a couple of mini-breaks since hotels re-opened on 4th July. Having stayed at several other Clayton Hotels where everything is consistently good, we felt confident that the Clayton Hotel in Cambridge would meet expectations and, in the light of Covid-19, adhere to stringent health and safety measures. It did not disappoint. Simple online check in procedures were put in place, one could watch a short video online where the CEO welcomes patrons back and explains sanitisation processes. We received a warm welcome. Our room was inviting - crisp linen, huge comfortable bed, sparkling clean bathrooom with luxury Irish designer Paul Costelloe toiletries and plenty of fluffy towels and a power shower. All surfaces have been decluttered to minimise contamination. Crockery has been replaced by disposable cups and stirrers - a sensible, reassuring precautionary practice. Clients and staff all maintained social distancing and wore masks in public areas. Hand sanitisers were in the lobby and even inside the lift, which impressed us. Also, we saw hotel personnel cleaning in the common parts throughout our stay. There were notices indicating guidance on safety - prominent but without detracting from the lovely ambience of the hotel. We haven't been in Cambridge for a while. Ahead of our stay, we spoke with Megan who had very good knowledge of the area and gave helpful suggestions as did her colleagues on Reception after check in. A map and directions were readily provided. The central location (next to the mainline station) and ease of parking nearby make the Clayton, Cambridge an excellent visitor destination. It's a great walking city - within a short distance of the hotel; there is plenty to see and do despite some attractions obviously being closed at this time. Furthermore, if you're an Irish patron, you probably love the sport of the turf! The National Horse Racing Museum, Newmarket is just 30 minutes away. Fortified by a very substantial breakfast at The Clayton we had a great day there. (Nb: the menu offers a full English breakfast but with delicious black pudding and hash browns included, I'd say it could be re-branded as... a full Irish!) We plan to return to the Clayton, Cambridge in the not-too-distant future and will certainly use it as a base to stay when we visit for the award winning Christmas Market at City Hall and Market Square. In our opinion, there will never be a better time to visit - there are few tourists or students in the city. It's an opportunity to enjoy the environs of Cambridge in a leisurely way without crowds and the Clayton is a relaxing haven.
Very bad Cardiff Lane
Very bad food , burned toast , par cooked eggs , basic teas and coffee not worth the price.
Was staying 4 nights and we had breakfast once !
Orderd room service, ridiculous prices for a plate of chips and some veg which also wasn't cooked throughout.
Very bad view as we were waking up to a construction site every morning which was appalling for the money we paid noise of the workers waking us up each morn.
No shampoos no conditioners no soaps no fresh towels .
When we requested our room to be cleaned we expected fresh towels fresh bedding and fresh tea and coffee packets. When we returned ...NO towels NO clean bedding and NO tea or coffee. ..cleaner just made our bed which we already done !
Elevators are an absolute joke . Taking 10 mins for the lift to go to the correct floor ! You wouldn't want to be in a hurry !
Highly dissatisfied and will not be recommending the clayton to anybody and in result we checked out a day early without any refunds !
Great hotel
Great hotel, definitely recommend if you are flying from Manchester. The only disappointing thing is the Clayton hotel always ends up being better than where we stay on holiday!
Manchester Airport Clayton-Fantastic customer service
We stay at the Clayton the night before we fly every year,it takes the stress away and the holiday begins a day earlier. We were due to fly to Orlando in 3 weeks time and had booked our room back in March. We had to move our holiday to next year due to Covid19. I contacted the hotel to ask if we could change our dates and we were replied to by Ellie. She assured us it wasn't an issue and just to re-book when we had our new holiday dates. We had the new dates for the holiday confirmed this afternoon for June next year and I emailed Ellie to re-book. Within 10 minutes, she had replied to my email to confirm the booking and emailed our booking confirmation to us. The customer service has been fantastic and Ellie has been so efficient, helpful and friendly.I know why we stay at the Clayton every year-fantastic staff, great hotel, free transport to the terminal 24/7, fantastic location and customer service second to none. Thanks Ellie, you've been fantastic. Dave and Wendy.
Clayton Hotel...The Best
I just liked the customer experience at the hotel being that I was a foreigner...I applaud the staff...kudos. The food especially breakfast was very amazing.
Birmingham Clayton Hotel
Clayton Birmingham has such amazing people working there. I rang inquiring about some facilities in their suites and the kind gentleman said they will call me back with more information. To be honest, I didn’t expect that they would actually call me back but not long after an amazing sweet lady named Charlotte called me and was so helpful. She went out of her way to the top floor to send me pictures of the suite (via email) because I couldn’t visit the hotel to see the room for myself. I really appreciated that so much And booked the nice suite straight away
First class customer care!
I had non refundable reservation due on 29th June with a one night stay over and parking prior to flying to Skiathos.
I cancelled the holiday early in March due to the current circumstances and completely forgot all about the booking.
I have just received an email from the hotel at Manchester Airport to remind me about the reservation and offer me alternatives. They could have said nothing and kept my money!
So when we go to Skiathos in 2021 we can stay at the Clayton Hotel Manchester Airport overnight in a lovely deluxe room with parking included.
A massive thank you at this difficult time.
Stayed for 2x nights at clayton in…
Stayed for 2x nights at clayton in Belfast. This is my first ever stay at Clayton as I have a membership with others. The reason I stayed here:
location, facilities (swimming pool is a must for me) and price.
Pros: really good location, swimming pool, sauna and steam and gym were nice but the swimming pool area (mainly showers room) was really dirty and outdated. Also the water was very chlorinated, more than usual because after finishing swimming my eyes were hurting and itchy and you could smell it as well.
Bed was comfy and the room was nice and quiet.
The most important was really the staffs that I found really nice and friendly and listen to any concern and will help to resolve any issue
WiFi was fast.
Cons: a bit outdated. Cleaning the room was not good enough although I stayed for 2x nights. It did not bother me much but just for comparison with others.
Breakfast: average but delicious. I missed some of breakfast elements but not big deal as there was really enough stuff to choose from.
Food at resturant I found more expensive than usual with limited choices. So I ate outside.
I really enjoyed my stay here and will consider coming back next time and would recommend
Not happy.
Hi,
I stay at the clayton when visiting my daughter all the time nearly every month.
I stayed in room 131 double room ?
No bedside tables or lamps no plug sockets.
Lighting was shocking.
Mildew in wet room, hand soap didn't.
Found a dirty glass underneath bed so the domestic didn't look there.
Staff are approachable however still waiting for my receipt via email.
I have booked for the end of the month too with my work colleges ?
Clayton hotel belfast
When we got to the hotel the receptionist was acting weird. She said our 1 night stay was £128 when I got the deal on booking.com for £108 with breakfast included. So I don't know were she was getting the extra money from and when I said to her about it she was smiling creepy and saying to come back to her? We never did, she was creepy.
The room was nice and the bed was very comfortable. They also completed my special request for a surprise balloon of the gender of our baby to see as he didn't know what gender the baby was until valentines day.
However the shower didn't work so I couldn't wash my hair.
The pool was lovely and warm although the lockers are abit of a nuisance to use but the staff who worked at the pool area were very friendly and a great help.
Me and my husband both had a peaceful sleep although my husband didn't think the bed was comfortable but I did. The black out curtains really helped me get to sleep and I couldn't hear much sound from the main road outside which was good.
The breakfast in the morning was moderate and not nice to me but my husband liked it.
Overall I don't think I would come back to stay here again as the receptionist tried to get more money out of us than what the stay was worth on booking.com and I had this pre booked for valentines day for us a month before the actual day.
The place is too pricey for what it's worth to stay there. £5 just to deliver food to your room and the food on the menu was too pricey just for normal things like pizza or sandwiches, we just ended up ordering a take away to the reception.
**update**
Got a reply on here from the manager saying the balloon costed the extra money yet on booking.com i got a message saying i wont be charged for the balloon and that they will only welcome me back if i say sorry to their excellent staff service.
Sorry but i wont be back to a place were the management lies and wants me to apologise to the receptionist who wanted to charge me extra money for nothing.
Arrive at clayton hotel basking…
Arrive at clayton hotel basking lane, swords, cloghran Ireland, at 15:00 very nice and welcome place , at 19:00 went for dinner and I was shocked with the delay was for 1 h waiting on the table no one come to me and every time I ask the staff the answer was the same " we are busy some one will be whit you in few minutes was there over one hour so I can get served, I totally understand it is a busy place but over one hour was away too much .
Cardiff
Cardiff. Spent an enjoyable 3 nights at this place. Ideally situated for rail station and city centre. Excellent breakfast, clean and comfortable room.
Clayton hotel Manchester airport shuttle service
Used Clayton Hotel Manchester airport recently pre holiday. We used the free shuttle service that was provided. Our driver Chris was great he was so polite and happy in his work. It was a fab start to our holiday and when we returned he was just as friendly and efficient. Chris is a credit to your company 👍
Clayton Hotel Leeds
Clayton Hotel Leeds - Stayed for one night to attend a concert and found the hotel to be excellent. Just off the motorway junction, easily found the entrance to the car park (although it is a first come first served basis so be mindful). Walking distance to the city centre...ideal. We stayed in one of the executive rooms on the 8th floor which was perfect...surprisingly quiet (no noise above us) plus silent closing doors. Great blackout curtains, clean spacious room, really comfortable bed, nice pillows and we nearly overslept!! Breakfast was really nice, a lot of choice and I mean a variety of foods available. Had a lovely time in Leeds....thank you!!!
Dublin Clayton Airport Park and Ride
Dublin Clayton Airport Park and Ride
Frustrated I have to write a negative review as all was going brilliantly. Car drop off, perfect. Parking space found in underground, no problem. Swift transport to the airport, so all going well.
Returned from holiday having spent over 15hrs traveling trans Atlantic, got to the pick up spot. Waited an hour for return transport, during which time multiple calls were made by various clients enquiring where the transport was. When I initially arrived at pick up 8 people were waiting. When the bus arrived I wouldn’t be exaggerating by saying their were at least 60, 20+ couldn’t board as it was full.
Outrageous to have to wait an hour+ to travel 5km to the hotel. Finding car and getting out of car park was no problem. Passing 3 x parked up Clayton buses on the way out! Unfortunately I won’t be using again and will stick to the Blue, long stay car park in future. Disappointed.
ClubVitae Gym - Clayton Hotel Liffey Valley (Part of the Dalata Hotel Group) Review
I was a Member of ClubVitae - The Gym in Clayton Hotel Liffey Valley ( Part of the Dalata Hotel Group ) for 2 Years on full Membership - When I joined, the Full Time Membership Cost €365.00, and then on the second year I paid the same €365.00 . However, the third Year I got a phone call to say that my Membership was due for renewal, only this time it would be €399.00 a sneaky increase of €34.00 without any prior notification.
When I attempted to negotiate the price, I got a straight out NO, in other words take it or leave it that's all your getting! I was not informed as to what the sneaky increase of €34.00 was for. Considering in a number of previous Gyms I was in they rewarded loyalty - In fact in previous Gyms I was in they use to lower the price to keep Customers, but ClubVitae Highers the prices without prior notification, and have no incentives to retain loyal customers.
The funny part is since July 1st 2018 ClubVite Liffey Valley stopped giving Customers complementary towels, which is a step backwards. Basically your now paying more and getting less. Not exactly the type of service one should expect from a 4 Star Hotel!
On top of all that I even sent an E-Mail to the ClubVitae Liffey Valley Manager, giving her an opportunity to enlighten me as to why I should consider renewing my Membership and pay more and get less - the e-mail was not acknowledged or replied to, which speaks for itself!
UPDATE: She rang me back on Friday 12th October 2018 - And informed me that she's not responsible for the pricing itself, that's handled by another department.
The Gym itself is very small, everything is on one floor, some of the items in recent times like cable machines and chest press were broke for a number of weeks and left that way for a while. And it can easily become over crowded at peak times.
One experience that put me off a while back, I had pointed out to the Club Manager that the floor in the changing room was soaking and I asked her if there was a leak and she looked at me, and said in a very patronizing way while making a hand movement of patting something and said "Well you have to feel the floor before you stand on it and see if it's wet" . This comment was highly inappropriate in the context and way it was said and I was offended by it because it was disrespectful implying that it was my responsibility to do their job but I let it go at the time but have thought very little of the Manager ever since for saying that to me. UPDATE: When she rang me back on Friday the 12th October 2018 I mentioned this incident to her and did apologize for it.
I have been in contact with A Mr. MM Head of Ancillary Revenue at Dalata Hotel Group on Friday 12th October 2018 who is responsible for ClubVitae - He immediately defended the price and said "I think the price is very reasonable for the area the Gym is situated in" I wasn't sure what he meant by the comment and asked him if he meant there something wrong with the area it was in and he said that's not what he meant.
This man was polite but nothing more, he failed to reassure me. and was not open to any kind of negotiation what so ever, it did not bother him if I left the Gym or stayed. And I got the impression that he wasn't too interested. In my view he was not Customer focused.
UPDATE: After a number of correspondence(s) between me and Mr. MM he never once clarified what the extra unexpected increase in the membership was for, I raised my detailed concerns and in the end here's exactly what he said to me " I will have to stick with what I said in that I believe that the gym is good value. "
To reiterate he was polite, and was not rude to me at any stage, but from a consumer's perspective he demonstrated to me a level of arrogance, and was not customer focused. His belief that the Gym is good value does not represent the people having to fork out the high unreasonable prices they are charging, and again the main issue is here there is no willingness to negotiate or reason on any level, which speaks volumes for itself! They gladly take your hard earned cash but won't reason with you when it comes to renewing your membership!
Most other Gyms with common courtesy, and who value Customers will almost 100% go out of their way to retain customers, but my experience from ClubVitae is that your Not Valued, and it's it you Pay what they tell you to Pay or be on your way and find somewhere else.
In circumstances like these my advice is from a consumer's perspective if your shown no regard, show none. Take your custom somewhere else that Values you! There's a lot of competition in this particular market and other Gyms near by in around Clondalkin, Lucan and Ballyfermot etc, plenty to choose from. But I certainly would not recommend ClubVitae Liffey Valley - Part of The Dalata Hotel Group, based on my poor experience and the fact that they didn't value my loyal custom.
I hope my consumer review in which I am entitled to will help other people looking to find a Gym that will Value you, look elsewhere you won't get it here!! For a so called 4 Star Hotel, Extremely Disappointing and unsatisfactory! I suppose if the service is bad from the top down what can you expect.
UPDATE: Flyefit Gym is opening directly beside this gym which means you will be able to join this instead for half the price or less, it's much cheaper!!
Not good
This is such a shame to write because a couple years ago I gave an outstanding review of this exact hotel. I've now had to edit it because it's really gone down hill. We had 2 interconnected rooms & there was mould in the grout in both bathrooms. The breakfast was terrible, the dishes were not clean, its so loud when trying to sleep but I am a light sleeper. The beds are comfortable and staff are polite and helpful but they look to be under pressure with not enough help.
I enjoyed my stay for 2 nights in…
I enjoyed my stay for 2 nights in Dublin. Definitely will be back
Don't expect high expectations unless you're drunk in which case it won't matter!
Paid for a suite so expected high standards in the 4 star rated hotel in Birmingham.
Check in time was 3:00pm, we arrived at 3:30pm and the room wasn't ready. The nice receptionist asked us to wait a short period whilst the room was cleaned. 10 minuntes later we were called back to reception and given the key cards to our room. The lobby looks like it should clean and spacious and the hotel is high tech with touch pad entry with ur key cards. The suite was as described large. That's all the good bits!
We got to our room, relaxed a little before heading out. Our fault for not checking the entire suite. When we arrived back from our trip out, the room smelt damp. It's had turned a little cold so tried to heat the room using the a/c. Again all electrical, 30 mins of messing around trying to use it with no avail, so called down to reception to be told they lower the temperature for spring, but to put it on automatic and that they will increase the room temperature from reception. And hour later still cold. Just felt fobbed off by reception staff. Didn't have the energy to argue. Woke up in the morning to go shower to find long brown hair in the shower tray! It would explain how a suite was cleaned in 10 minutes. Shower is described as monsoon shower, felt more like a drizzle! My wife showered around 11:30am to find the water was luke warm! Tip shower early if you like it hot!
The website advises late checkout at extra cost..cost not a problem - but when you ask first time round you get told we don't do late checkout on a Sunday. Only after complaining that the room wasn't ready on checkin were we given the option for late checkout.
The website advises it has a private car park, it does, but get there early as it's very limited for space and is a gravel pit, so if you're worried about your paint work on your new car, park in Selfridges!
Night reception staff need training on customer service!
The best thing about the hotel - the quick checkout! Really disappointed with the hotel for putting a dampener on our late anniversary celebrations!
After reading more reviews, it's seems the same story over the night staff even though the General manager says she'll be dealing with the issues from previous clients complaints... obviously staff learn from the management on ways to fob off their guests.
So we got an automated email from Clayton Hotels, saying they were sorry for our experience and to contact their deputy manager - who replied saying he will look investigate the matter and be in touch. Over two weeks later and no response. This is where the night staff get their training from!
