This company really needs to hire people that speak english. My card was lost, I tried to replace it, but in order to do that they needed my CVV code. If I don't have my card, how can I give you that code? So I had to call, and everyone speaks with such accents I could not unbderstand what they were saying. I sure hope I get my new card
Bad transition from Barclay to Citi
Horrible forced transition from AAdvantage (American Airlines) Barclay Bank to Citi.
Why did you do this American?
The worst credit card company PERIOD
The worst credit card company PERIOD! Customer service is incompetent and dysfunctional. Still cannot access my account online, exceedingly long hold times. Had Barclay until Citi took over. AVOID CITI at all costs!
Previously a AABarclays customer and…
Previously a AABarclays customer and card was transitioned to Citi. First billing cycle I paid OVER THE MINIMUM due and my card was promptly frozen with no alert, email, text or call and not only that but my account page listed my payment as processed/posted/complete and it subtracted the amount from my total owed and posted that I had 50% of my credit limit still available. If you pay your bill over the minumum due they will freeze your account for 8 days with no notice while they "verify payment." WTAF. I was a Barclays customer for 2 decades and have an excellent credit score. Reps could not explain to me why Citi does this and could not unfreeze my account and told me this could happen every month because I pay off my total balance. DO NOT EVER GET THIS CARD if you want a grown up professional credit card, if you travel a lot, if you are responsible and like to pay off your balance. If youwant your credit card declined for a week every month then go ahead.
IF I COULD GIVE THEM A 0 I WOULD
I have a Aadvantage American Airlines Citi card. I signed up for a offer to spend $3,500 in 4 months to get 80,000 miles. I got the card in the mail but didn't activate it. After signing up for that offer they told me I did not have that offer after all. It took awhile to find that out too. After arguing about it by phone they said theyll fix it call back a few days later to check if it was fixed. I called it was not fixed. 4-5 months later I got a letter in the mail I have the deal. I figured I better call to double check and sure enough they said my 4 months had started in January not in late May when I received the letter. If I had not made sure I called to speak with a human being I would've assumed the 4 months started when I got the letter and I wouldve been completely ripped off. Never even activated the card. This company is foul.

1 Star — Terrible Transition Experience
I was a longtime customer of Barclays Bank and had no idea my account had been sold to Citibank. With zero warning, my card was declined in a store — a completely humiliating experience. When I called to find out what happened, I was told I needed to activate a new card. On top of that, my automatic payments did not transfer over, which means I could have missed payments without even knowing it.
This level of communication is unacceptable. Customers deserve to be notified about major changes that directly affect their accounts. I am done with Citibank and moving to American Express. I would not recommend this bank to anyone.
Citi Mortgage horrible
Citi Mortgage was the underwriter of my mortgage. Sold it to Fay Servicing within 2 months. They sold it to Rushmore 4 months later. Truly horrible mortgage experience would never use for a mortgage again.
They do well with my Costco card. Expected better.
I do not recommend Citibank to anyone
I do not recommend Citibank to anyone. My experience with this bank has been extremely disappointing. It feels less like a professional bank and more like a company that does not care about its customers.
Whenever I contact customer service for help, nobody can provide a clear explanation. Instead of resolving problems, they give confusing answers and are unable to explain account balances or charges properly.
The most frustrating issue is that when I make payments to reduce my balance, the amount owed seems to increase instead of decrease. I have repeatedly asked for an explanation, but no one has been able to clearly explain what is happening.
The interest rates are extremely high, and customer support has been completely unhelpful. If I had known how difficult and frustrating this experience would be, I would never have opened an account with Citibank.
Never get a Citi card
Never, but never get a Citi card. I don't need to explain why. read everyone else review and you will understand.
I am current on my payments
I am current on my payments. They reduced my credit limit by 10%.
I'm extremely dissatisfied with citi
I would rate it 0 stars if allowed
I would rate it 0 stars if allowed. Do not get a Citi card under any circumstances.
The only reason I even gave one star…
The only reason I even gave one star is because their customer service reps were very nice, though one I could not understand at all.
Their process is absolutely horrific! I've been on the phone with them for over 2 days trying to do a simple task. They are constantly sending me from one department to another and back to the one that I was originally transferred from for the same information!! No consistency in information from representative to representative (from the same department)as to where to locate items, steps in the process and whether to use the mobile or browser versions!! The online buttons are not there in either the mobile or browser versions as they talk through steps. TERRIBLE PROCESSES!!! Very disappointed especially with the technology available to us today.

So putting aside that the citigroup and all other major credit card financial institutions design their interest rates so you will never ever get out of debt and shame on every single person that work for a company like this and this is what's wrong with our country. This company is in no way shape or form helping anyone with their insane interest rates and all the different fees they charge if you by chance forget to make a payment or you're a couple days late these are a true showcase of the devils that America let's run crazy just so they can steal all of our hard-earned money
If you travel DO NOT get this card
If you travel DO NOT get this card
Worst bank ever, slow, blocking cards for no reason, making impossible to unblock abroad.
Absolutely the worst experience
Absolutely the worst experience! Was a card holder with Barclays American Airlines Advantage for 22 years. The card was switched to Citi.com and that’s where it went totally south. I had at least 3 emails stating my card number wouldn’t change. Then I received late notices from Citi (even though I had been on auto pay all along). When I tried to log in to my new citi.com account it would allow my old card number account. When I tried to call Citi.com it was all automated and would just keep telling me my account was overdue. Then it would say a new card would be issued within 6-8 weeks. When I finally was able to talk to someone and tried to understand their accent, they offered me a 5000 reward point gift for all y troubles. This is after two weeks of trying to get this situation figured out. GOOD LUCK if you go with Citi.com. Now I am also seeing allllll the negative reviews for them. No one cares from their Customer Service staff.
Less than 1 star
Less than 1 star. It’s absolutely maddening that every time we pay our Citibank card we have to call to get the payment to post. It’s out of our bank account yet they won’t clear our account and make jump through hoops each time. Get it together Citibank it shouldn’t be this hard. Total waste of time and I’m ready for the class action lawsuit coming for incompetence and annoyance!!!!
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE…
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE IF I CAN WRITE HORRIBLE 100 MORE TIMES I WOULD!!! WORST I MEAN WORST BANK EVER! DO NOT BANK WITH THEM!!!!! THEY WILL DECLINE EVERY TRANSACTION YOU MAKE NO MATTER WHAT IT IS!!!!!!! ITS SO BAD THEY DONT EVEN TEXT YOU THEY MAKE YOU CALL FOR A $20 FOOD ORDER THINKING ITS FRAUD! HORRIBLE BANK ITS SO BAD. I NEVER WRITE REVIEW & THIS IS HOW UPSET THEYVE MADE ME
In the last 8 months I've paid off a…
In the last 8 months I've paid off a house (which I still own and have rented out), bought a brand new 2026 car (which is now paid off), purchased a new home (which has $120k+ in equity), AND paid off all my credit cards, including Citi card. These people then LOWERED my credit card limit from $5k to $500! The explanation they gave me makes ZERO sense! So after trying to get something done to rectify this, and getting nowhere, I'm going to close this account and NEVER do business with them again!
They did not ask specific questions about fraud immediately
They did not ask questions about a fraudulent merchant and transactions. Instead they said I should just wait until the transactions posted. I have low confidence that they understand or empathize. Now time has gone by and they spout off some script in a difficult to understand form of English, say thank you bye and hang up. I have low confidence that I can trust their fraud department. Who hangs up on a customer? Citi customer service.
Immediately canceled new account I was forced into
I just forced onto Citibank when AAdvantage moved to Citi. Their website wasn't up for many days. When it finally was it was a couple days after the payment due date. I previously had autopay set up, but it didn't go because of the move. I immediately paid the entire balance which I have always done every month for the last 7 years. A few days after I paid the entire balance I was notified that I had a balance of $5 even though I don't have a functional card yet. It was a charge for an interest on an account with a zero balance. I haven't received any information as to whether they are sending me a new card. My old card just stopped working, which was embarassing. I haven't had a card declined in 10 years.
I am going to remember this experience and make sure I never do business with Citi in any form. I am really sad, because I like traveling with American Airlines, but I guess I would rather pay a little more for travel than do business with this incompetent company.
