Went to Chippenham Motor Company for a new car and was met by Ethan Ramsey, he was polite and friendly and took us around the cars we were looking to buy. He was very knowledgeable on the cars and gave us good advice. He also plied us with hot drinks!!! It was nice to be spoken to openly and given good advice and leaving us to make our decision. We ended up going for a test drive and purchased a car and Ethan also guided us through all options in an open manner and we were able to choose what suited us. I would recommend trying this company when getting a car and remember to ask for Ethan!

Here we present the Pantomime of the Chippenham Motor Company (CMC). You will definitely get the pantomime vibe from being here. As a matter of fact, ahead of time...”Oh yes, you will”.

When the engine management light goes on, the car is in trouble. A inspection was carried out in the beginning of December 2023. They said they had to e-mail everything centrally and that I should hear back on Monday, December 11th, hopefully with more details. The good ol' "it will be this coming Monday" got me started chasing on the 15th and I got … “this coming Monday now”.

Between Christmas and New Year's, I had to pursue them again as I hadn't heard from them since. I was contacted on 3 Jan 24, via email asking me to come in - that day. Like every CMC Pantomime when they hit "send," they just send that information on to the customer's mind. Phones? Who needs them for things to be sorted that day (apparently)!

After I explained that I couldn't just abandon the wake and funeral I was attending, I made an appointment for January 8th.

It took eleven days before I started chasing them (AGAIN!) for a response.

They contacted me again on January 24th. Their diagnostic computer had to check more codes because of this, okay that happens. "We are experiencing issues with the internet and are unable to proceed with the tests," the Pantomime Comic finally says after what was several hours of sitting in their upstairs waiting room. After assuring me that the task would not be time-consuming or difficult, they said, "just pop in when you're next near and we will squeeze you in".

So, foolishly, I do exactly what they suggested. I went back a few days later. I had been patiently waiting for a few more hours when the Pantomime Comic returns. “It's not our servers that are down; the diagnostic cannot be conducted because Kia's central servers are down”.

They were “sorry” for my wasted journey, time, additional wear and tare, as well as wasted fuel…oh and time away from work.

Anyhow, I’m no further forward. We know what needed fixing after my first visit, the catalytic converter. The question is what associated parts need doing too. It’s that second part that has taken 4 trips and they still cannot identify which. They will also just sit their waiting for you to actively chase them.

UPDATE: after escalating to the Service Manager, it is clear why this pantomime is allowed to continue. Asked for a call back. He got another member of staff to call back. Upon receipt of my email to his staff asking for a communication every week and to book my car in for a service here is what happened. They waited 13 days, gave me a call with the IT issue remaining unfixed asking questions I could have answered back in December. They reply with “…so I will ensure you are contacted and ensure constant communication with what is happening and what is needed to be done” but did wait 13 days. And also, “… when you have dropped your vehicle off and waited with us on site, we wouldn't have necessarily known if the aspect of the KDS was down until it is plugged into the vehicle but I am sure our technicians would have been checking back with technical on the day it was in with us to see if there was anything else that could have been done”. They also let me know I was not the only person in this situation, with their garage.

So they book in work and don’t check their tools for the work they need to carry out that day. It’s not like they are a Kia garage with Kia cars on the forecourt able to check their diagnostic machines is functioning when they have a known issue and update customers before they waste their time. Oh wait, they do have that available to them.

Anyhow, I was able to call Kia Bath. They had no such issues with their IT. Booked me in, actually told me what they’d offer me on my car…I ended up buying a new car. I arranged all of that with Bath, in between the 13 days it took Chippenham to communicate.

When it comes to Service department, please stay well clear of Chippenham!

I have recently sold my car through Chippenham Motor Company & couldn’t be happier.
Even though there is more than 200 miles between us, the process was extremely smooth and professional.

I received confirmation of the collection by SMS and the driver was on time and very courteous.
Whilst the driver was with me, I received a call from Chippenham who processed the payment instantly before I released the car.

We have sold and purchased many cars over the years but never had such a pleasant experience.

Customer focused. I arrived without an appointment but was allowed to take a car out for a test drive. It was clean, well presented and I went on to purchase the vehicle. CMC completed a service prior to me picking up at no extra cost.
Juan explained all the options available and made the process very easy. My wife is chuffed to bits with her new car. I would certainly recommend Juan and CMC.

Needed a small warranty job carried out on our Ibiza, as usual very easy to make a booking, when I arrived I was met by Angela who was very helpful. Car repaired (and washed) in less than 2 hours. We've always had this car maintained at CMC and can thoroughly recommend them.

Very good at selling stage, seemingly not interested after that. We bought a used car on 14 October: when we got home with it there was no handbook with the car, 'phoned and was assured that they would order one for us and forward it. Since then nothing. Attempts to get through by 'phone all failed. Have used the chat system on the website and left two messages about the missing handbook - no response at all.

We brought a Kia Stonic in march Jack the salesman was brilliant perfect service very helpful..
But 2 weeks after picking it up we had trouble with the key sadly the service department has really let us down when dealing with our unusual problem & basically lied & didn't do what they said they would to try solve the problem..so I am now bitterly disappointed with the whole company maybe some one from management would like to contact me about this review.

Super quick and helpful. Lee was great - test drove the car we were after and drove away less than 24 hours later. Really clear about Kia warranty etc. Would come back!
