I picked a plan that would work for my Australian Shepherd because I know in the past dogs can get really expensive when the time comes. It’s very worth it you get the plan to include wellness not just emergencies because you get some money back and that is always better than nothing.

The pet insurance has paid promptly and covers what I expected the insurance to cover. It is very easily to upload documents and file a claim in the website.

Absolutely terrible company, do not use them! There are far better pet insurance companies out there that actually pay on claims versus deny every single one you put in. We were with them for 2 months and they would pay on a single claim and just outright deny everyone you put in for bogus reasons that they make up.

I received the 30 day free insurance coverage after registering my puppy. I ended up filing a claim after my puppy became sick, and nothing was covered by the insurance. I was actually going to purchase insurance though AKC I’m glad I didn’t, since nothing was covered on my claim. I will go with Nationwide Pet Insurance instead.

My family and I decided to bring a new little puppy into our family at the end of 2020. When we got him he came with a 30day trial for pet insurance (different company). I never had pet insurance on past pets and I went back and forth on if I should have pet insurance on our new puppy. I started doing research on different pet insurance companies and came across AKC Pet Insurance. I went ahead and bit the bullet and committed to purchasing a policy with AKC. Best decision I have ever made, they have been a lifesaver for me!

A few months after purchasing a policy with AKC our new little puppy started having some issues. We took him to vet multiple times, vet ran several different blood test with no firm result and then eventually sent us to a specialist for more testing. I have submitted 4 different claims to AKC and they have processed and covered each claim within days of submission. They have taken away the financial stress of going through these issues with our baby. I highly recommend AKC Pet Insurance to anyone and if you are on the fence about having pet insurance at all, I say go for it. You may not need it, and that is great if you don't, but if you do, you will be grateful you have it. Thank you AKC!!

I’ve had AKC Pet insurance for 5 years...ever since we brought our Cooper home from the breeder. Cooper is a beautiful Welsh Springer Spaniel who is the joy of our lives. Sadly about 4 months ago he was diagnosed with Autoimmune Encephalitis which is not curable . This was determined after an MRI and Spinal Tap. The best you can hope for is a remission after suppressing the immune system. This is done with immunosuppressants and Chemotherapy. Cooper has shown signs of stabilizing quite a bit...but as you can imaging...this is incredibly expensive, and without this insurance I don’t think Cooper would be with us today. AKC has been a remarkable God send for us, and their customer service is first rate...and rapid reimbursements. I thank God every day for their support and feel they are by our side though this heartbreaking time.

I would definitely look for other companies than this one. I took my dog to been seen for a swollen eye, she was treated for infection 2 different times. Then she continued to have trouble and was diagnosed with Entropion that requires surgery. The policy states you pay 20% for surgery and they pay the 80%. That is false, they only pay up to your per pet incident which my per incident was $500. Her surgery was $1800 they paid 120.22 because they said that they had already paid out $377.78 when she was treated for the swollen eye. So don't fall for the surgery being covered. They are very deceiving and I would stay away!

What is Covered
After satisfying the annual Deductible indicated on the Declarations Page, We will reimburse You in accordance with Your plan, less
any limitations and exclusions, the amount after Coinsurance for eligible Covered Expenses that are Medically Necessary to treat or
diagnose a current covered Incident showing Symptoms during the Policy period but after the Waiting Period, including but not limited
to:
a. Laboratory tests, x-rays, ultrasound, MRI and CT scans;
b. Surgery;
c. Hospitalization
d. Prescription Medication that is prescribed by a Veterinarian;
e. Extractions to permanent broken teeth due to an Accident;
f. Chemotherapy;
g. Hydrotherapy and Physical Therapy;
h. Emergency ground Pet Ambulance transportation up to the maximum benefit for this coverage as specified on the
Declarations Page; and
i. Euthanasia (when advised by a Veterinarian to alleviate suffering).

We have a 4-month old Old English Sheepdog, and the free insurance was pretty basic. Consequently, our initial well puppy visit/meds was not covered, but our next one was, (we added the well dog insurance) and the process was seamless.

Terrible insurance coverage. Would definitely look elsewhere for pet insurance. I got the 30 day certificate after registering my pet with the AKC. The first claim was denied because the coverage started a day after - fine, I understand that one. The problem cleared up completely, but came back a couple weeks later. I took my pet back to the vet and the problem fell into the “recheck” window. They don’t make you pay full price for an illness check if it’s within a certain amount of time. The claim was denied this time due to “pre-existing” condition, even though the problem was resolved after the first vet visit. It seems like this insurance is going to find any reason to not reimburse. The price of insurance is very high compared to other places (and a lot of companies offer pet insurance now) and considering I haven’t had a good experience, I won’t be renewing it. For the price they charge, I would expect better coverage. I would personally recommend finding another company.

We found out that our puppy had congenital flaws. They deemed this a pre-existing condition and have covered absolutely nothing. And now they list everything as pre-existing. Scam.

We signed up for this when we registered our new puppy! Every claim we submitted came back with a code "D4"
Pre-existing condition! 4 month old puppy! how could you have so many pre-existing conditions! Great way of refusing the claims! Go get a real insurance! do not be fooled by this!

Update as of 12/22/20 ... it took over a month to appeal the decision on the original decline and the adjuster still declined payment. The tests were run to ensure our dog had not ingested a toxin. The vet updated the records stating that they were screening to ensure no organ damage was showing. The tests showed no organ damage so that was great, but because the vet noted our dog was teething at the time- the AKC insurance adjuster said THAT was the cause of the excessive drooling and declined payment. Great way to dodge payment since Ortho issues are not covered. The issue resolved in 48 hours, but the dog was still teething so that was not the cause of the drooling.
We also had the wellness plan for our cats- it has been a month since I submitted the claim for that and still no completion. It is unfortunate that they are so under-staffed that claims take a month to review, and set the customer up for an even longer reimbursement process if/when they want more documents from your vet. I know we have begun looking at other options. Financially, it doesn’t make sense to pay thousands in premiums to have $177 bill declined for payment.

Original post: So we have been with AKC Pet Insurance for approximately 4 years now, and I honestly could have made a commercial for them. Unfortunately my last claims experience was a bit unsettling. We had a $177 claim that was reimbursed $0. The explanation of benefits said that they did not cover my dog’s diagnosis- but that is alarming as it was an emergent visit. Specifically, our dog began drooling EXCESSIVELY.... I am used to slobber as I favor wrinkly pups, but our puppy was soaking through a full sized towel while trying to sleep, and the drool was pouring out of his mouth when he stood- his neck, chest and paws were soaked. The vet said to bring him in because she feared dehydration could set in, and that perhaps it was some chemical exposure so they wanted to run tests! We got him in, and the tests run indicated that his organs were all functioning properly, and there was no known cause for the excess drooling. They told us to watch him over the weekend and if it continued more tests would be run to check for salivary gland issues. Thankfully it subsided, but the insurance paid nothing on the claim because the only thing the vet could positively note was that he was “shedding” multiple teeth. There was no conclusive diagnosis as to what caused the drooling, so they paid nothing. My concern is that it seems they would encourage owners to wait to seek treatment unless there is some certainty of what is causing a symptom! That is no way to care for a pet! I am shocked at the philosophy so I cannot recommend the product any more. I can say that if you are considering pet insurance, you may want to ask if testing is covered even if results are negative and cannot confirm an immediate diagnosis.

I called this evening to ask questions about my policy. Chelsea was so very helpful and nice. I wish more people had such wonderful customer service skills. She helped me pick out a better policy and was able to answer all of my questions.

Do NOT buy this insurance for your PUPPY! I paid 94$ a month for my 3 month old puppy and the first time I used it they denied my 700$ cardiac assessment! What a waste of my money! Do not waste yours!

No complaints at all! Great and quick communication and follow up on our claim. It’s been great to be part of them. Definitely recommend them.

Our 6 month old puppy swallowed part of a Nylabone and began to vomit throughout the day. An expensive trip to an emergency vet hospital followed. Our pup received an exam, x-rays, and medication and was fine within a couple of days. We filed a claim, which was easy to do, and received information about our coverage within days. Our insurance covered a large part of the expenses. Very happy with our insurance and their customer service.
