Horrible. Terrible. Never again.
In June 2024, I applied for store credit at Value City Furniture in Plainfield, and Linda, the finance associate, helped me out. Little did I know, she would later become the source of this whole ordeal.
I bought a mattress, a couch, and a loveseat, all set for delivery in July 2024 to my new place. The mattress arrived first, though a few days late, followed by the couch. However, the loveseat was on "back order" until August. I decided to swap the loveseat for a chair, but then they said the chair was also on back order until September. At this point, I was fed up and asked them to pick up everything because Linda and Laura at VCF finance had been inconsistent, confused, and dishonest, leading to more confusion as they failed to collaborate effectively.
In August, the VCF truck came to pick up the couch, but I never received the back-ordered items. Meanwhile, Acceptance Now Finance, which handled VCF, became Acima at Bob’s, adding even more confusion. Linda had quit, leaving multiple customers, including myself, in the dark about their orders. I had to drive 30 minutes to different VCF locations seeking help.
I ended up working with another associate who was doing her best to clean up the mess Linda left behind. After making payments, returning the furniture, and only keeping the mattress, I was shocked to learn I still had nearly $5,000 to pay. I refused to pay that much for just a mattress and demanded they come to pick it up. Yes, it had a warranty.
Finally, after waiting another month, a Rent-A-Center truck arrived. They took the plastic-wrapped mattress from my house, threw it off the truck onto the grass where dogs do their business, and said their manager told them they couldn't take a used mattress (even though it was still in plastic). I explained this had already been discussed with Acceptance Now, VCF, Bob’s, and Acima, but none of them seemed to communicate with each other. I asked why they threw it on the ground instead of leaning it against the truck. Chris, the RAC delivery guy, said he would just leave it in the grass, now dirty, and suggested a homeless person could take it. I was appalled.
The second driver had a calmer demeanor and explained the manager's decision. I called DeAndra at Bob’s, who I've been working with. Apparently, their records didn't show that I ever returned the living room set! She now has to coordinate with VCF, Acceptance, and a corporate contact named Nathaniel to figure out why the furniture hasn’t been removed from my account. On top of that, their records don’t even show that I bought a mattress, mattress pad, or warranty!
Today's date: Nov 12, 2024 and no resolution.

I spent almost $3000 for a dinning room set and it took six weeks to get which I was fine with and agreed to. it was to be delivered on my birthday. my birthday came and they lost my chairs and is currently making me wait another 6 weeks to get them. no consumer protection they didn't even offer me my deliver fee back nothing I'm forced to wait or pay to send it back. doesn't matter about my events smh

Update 10/25/24. Would be a 5, if not for the drama on Wednesday. They brought out the sectional today. It was a seemless delivery and we are, so far, happy with the furniture. Pretty decent effort to turn it around...and in an imperfect world, I am surprised and impressed that I have furniture in my living room before Nov 6th.
Original 10/23/24 Promised delivery of a 9 piece sectional for today, October 23rd 2024. Received a phone call yesterday saying it's out of stock and wouldn't be delivered until the first week of November. Okay. SO, obviously, I did not prepare the room by removing the furniture and shampooing the carpet. This morning received a text with a link showing Manuel would be delivering between 11:05 and 11:35 a.m. this morning. PANIC! Now what? Okay it's 7:30 rush to remove furniture; rush to shampoo carpet! Success! Check the link again, still says Manuel will be here between 11:05 and 11:35; great! About 5 minutes ago, I check the link again to see if there were any updates on times. WHAT! Order not found? Now I owe back 2 hours of time to work because I had to rush and prepare everything AND no furniture to sit on till November! No Bueno! Not good Value City! Maybe I should cancel?
VCF and Pure Promise blame each other
I bought a sectional which reclines on both ends. I bought the extended warranty and it was denied due to the reported timeframe being outside the window. I called them and told them it was a mistake and brought it up with the disputes department. They said because you submitted it as a mistake we are going to hold you to that mistake and will not/can not change the dates. The customer service rep didn't explain any of this. Saying if you accidently make a mistake on the dates, PURE Promise will hold you to it. Pure Promise OR VCF doesn't care about you. I wish corporations would stop thinking about billion dollar profits and help the little guy but that wont happen. VCF is just trying to sell you stuff to make money and then use a 3rd party for their warranty so no-one will recognize the blame. Its only the customer fault for incorrectly adding a date. I will never get another piece of furniture from VCF or any other company that uses Pure Promise.

Criminal predatory business Go anywhere else
What can I say, avoid them at all costs. I purchased an order but within seconds requested a cancellation. The cancellation was acknowledged immediately in writing. Then they proceeded to ship 1800 dollars worth of merchandise to my address. It suddenly became my problem to return it even though it was canceled and acknowledged as canceled in less than 24 hours of the order. I even followed up with a phone call and was told that they would reach out to the vendors to ensure it was canceled. Orders continued to ship up to 4-5 days after that. Yes I disputed it with the credit card company but since it is there credit card naturally I did not win the dispute. If I had a truck to return all of that furniture I wouldn't have paid for shipping to begin with. I'm not sure why I am responsible for paying for something that was canceled in writing. I've done everything I can including reporting to the better Business bureau and consumer affairs but it appears I am stuck paying for it. I wasn't even intending to submit the order I just wanted to see how much it would be with taxes but there was no warning that it submitted and no total was given prior to that. That's how I ended up in this mess so be careful when you were placing orders online. I've paid off the card since then but the charge is still pending which makes me nervous because now I'm worried that they will try to charge me again. I've reached out to them and the credit card company asking for the charge to be updated but both are referring to the other for a solution. To be honest I'm not sure why a charge that is showing pending is racking up interest on the credit card. I didn't think they could do that until the charge went through but apparently this card can do what they want. Synchrony and Value City Furniture I look forward to the day whenever you are no longer in business. It may not mean much but I'm going to make sure everyone hears about this and every possible platform.

I like Value City Furniture because I had an ocean couch from there it was good it was comfortable it was very nice and it lasted for a good long time until the day I had to move away and I gave it to a friend of mine upstairs where I lived however the drivers who bought it that day were very professional very courteous very nice never had a problem with them we'll gladly go back and do business with them again

Purs promise scam/fraud
Purchased sectional sofa 2/8/23 with the pure promise protection plan. On 6/28/24 noticed on 2 of the 5 cushions leather started cracking and peeling. We have no children and only use sofa when entertaining friends and family. Placed a claim and was denied was told protection plan did not cover this even though the pamphlet given out by vcf states it does. Contacted pure promise and was told that information pamphlet given by vcf does not reflect the warranty sold to me. This has been a horrible experience and will not do buisness with again.

Poor Quality Furniture
Customer service from the team in Charlotte/Matthews: 5 stars The customer service team kept sending me replacements because the furniture would arrive broken!
Quality of furniture: 0 stars. The bed I ordered arrived broken (on the truck) FOUR times before I finally got one that wasn't broken on delivery. It then didn't survive a single move I made. I'm not hard on my furniture and I take care of my things. A dresser I had from the Swedish store for literally 15 years was better quality.

Buying from VCF is easy, they are all nice but when we need assistance for furniture repairs everything is different. They do not answer the phone, give a date to come and do the work and no body show up....

When I go to Value City in Chesapeake I always ask for Jackie. She goes above and beyond trying to help you get what you want and making sure you are satisfied. She has helped me in the past and just recently was able to solve a difficult problem.
She always is smiling, friendly, helpful and it is always a pleasure doing business with her. She really cares and shows it!
EXTREMELY POOR SERVICE
Actually, based on phone call with Kat today, 3/11, I would have to say MINUS 10 star.
We made a purchase on 2/16. We had delivery set for 3/15 because having carpet installed 3/7. We were able to have delivery moved up a day to 3/14. The delivery store for Value City called me today, 3/11 and said would have to move delivery to 3/27, because of issues with bed?? I don't understand, the merchandise is paid for and now we have to wait additional time because Value City failed to make this information available at time of purchase. I have called Synchrony Bank to complain about there store and Synchrony Bank filed a dispute on the amount owed, which will actually resolve nothing on getting merchandise delivered. Now, I am suppose to receive merchandise on same day as payment is due and I have waited about 6 weeks for new bed?????
I talked with this Pat, a manager for the store and they did offer a pittance for compensation because of the delay. Pat then proceeded to say I was rude to her, but I was upset because of the issue with delivery. If a manager can't differentiate the difference between being rude and having an upset customer on the phone, then maybe they need to look for another line of work. I am not happy with Value City and we have made purchases there in the past and never been lied to or treated this way
Just an update: I received another call from Value City and was told delivery couldn't be made March 27 because of manufacuturer delays (second time) and couldn't be delivered until April 10th. Value City has been paid in full by Synchrony and I am under contractual obligation to pay Synchrony for merchandise I have ordered, but never received as originally promised by Value City. I guess Value City doesn't appreciate there customers.
I have no desire to contact Value City here and speak with a condensending and uncaring individual that likes to call customers names and call them rude.
I will never go back to Value City again nor will I deal with them again, once I receive my merchandise. My patience is wearing thin
I bought a recliner couch and it broke…
I bought a recliner couch and it broke 13 months after I bought it . The 12 month warranty had expired they said they would not fixed it because I didn’t buy the extended warranty that they tried to sell me for a couple hundred dollars more.
The furniture is cheaply made and it breaks in less than 13 months . Go to IKea they are cheaper and better quality or shop somewhere else. I will not buy anything at Value City again!!!

Did not use warranty and did not get gift card like promised
Purchased furniture and took warranty option. Was told if did not use a claim on the warranty that would get gift card for balance. Was supposed to get email 1-1-24 (never received) then told 2-1-24 still no email. Call the store and no one but one person can help you and was told to call pure promise for gift card. Called pure promise and they say to call store.

I don’t recommend buying any thing from value city furniture here in Toledo, Ohio the Monroe Street preferably. I purchased an item less than two years ago and it’s defective and the pure promise warranty will not honor it. They sell you those extended warranties, but they absolutely mean nothing when it comes time to use them, I would not buy a piece of lint from any value CITY ever again. Don’t believe any other sales persons when they tell you that they guarantee that the warranty will be good they’re not being honest.

Don't count on a quick delivery or confirmed date.
Purchased $10K worth of furniture on 12/23/23. We were told there was only one item that was back ordered and we should have everything by mid January. The furniture was scheduled for 1/23/24. On 1/19/24 they called to reschedule for 1/25/24. On 1/24/24 they called and wanted to reschedule again for 1/30/24. We had moved appointments around twice already. VCF really did not seem to care, so we cancelled the order. The assistant manger was not a lot of help and we are still waiting on a call from the actual manger.
