Ollygrin BG-710T Conical Burr Coffee Grinder
Nothing beats the smell and taste of coffee made from freshly ground coffee beans. This is a review of the Ollygrin model BG-710T conical burr coffee grinder. It was purchased from Amazon, it came well packaged and arrived quickly. With 30 grind settings not only will it grind you coffee beans from a coarse grind for cold brew and French press it will go fine enough to support use in a pressurized portafilter for espresso and everything in between. This grinder is mainly constructed of plastic but the grind chamber is stainless steel which will greatly reduce both retention and static which is a problem to some degree with all burr grinders. The use of RDT will eliminate the remainder of the static and retention issue. This grinder is extremely quiet. While grinding coffee beans is never a moment of silence this grinder is one of the quietest I have experienced at just 78 decibels while it is grinding. The controls are well back lit and are straight forward and easy to understand and use. If there is one area for improvement this would be the place, while easy to use the touch panel is not as sensitive as I would have liked. You can grind by time or by the cup. I have not used the cup setting for grinding so I can not attest to its accuracy. I mainly use this grinder for drip coffee batch brew grinding a single dose of 45 grams of coffee beans and the timer set to 45 seconds. I do not recommend leaving whole beans in the bean hopper as this will affect the freshness of the coffee beans. While some experimentation is needed to find the correct grind size for your equipment, I have found that a setting of 8 is perfect for a Cuisinart CPO 800/850 precision pour over brewer. It has both very good consistency, repeatability, and very low retention. At the time of purchase this grinder was $41.99 on a spring seasonal sale it is currently priced at $69.99 and still worth every penny. As far as its durability, I have not used it long enough to comment but so far it has ground 45 gram doses twice a day for two months and has performed flawlessly. This grinder comes as a pleasent surprize and is highly recommended
