Horrible experience!
We rented an old van from Uber Carshare a year ago with my friends. The vehicle was not in great condition. After returning it, they held us accountable for damages that were already there. Although we contested the charges, we ended up paying part of the amount and closed the case. Now, a year later, they've started billing me again! I've been trying to get in touch with them, but there's been no reply.
The worse experience ever
The worse experience ever. The fist day my car was renting out it was damaged. Ubershare picked it up and keep it for more than 5 months with no explanation. The comunication with them was ok the fist 2 months after that nobody answer the phone or emails. Also the car wasn't advertising but Ubershare still was charging the membership fee. The experience with this company has been a huge nightmare
Beware, their Bluetooth device causes damage to your car and they refuse to take responsibility for it!
Like all the other reviews UBER Carshare is the worst company I have ever had to deal with.
After they installed their new Bluetooth device on my car I had 3 bookings unable to start the car.
UBER made me take the car to the mechanic all 3 times to which the mechanic could not find anything wrong with the vehicle, so I asked them to replace the fuel pump and filter to see if this would fix the problem and it didn't.
I refunded the 3 customers and spent over $300 on repairs losing $500 in total and 3 months of bookings trying to get this resolved. So decided to delist the car and have the Bluetooth device removed.
Guess what? The car now has no problems starting however UBER refuse to take responsibilty as I can not prove the Bluetooth device was the problem.
Maybe it is because their call centre is in the Philippines and their staff are uneducated, but a 3rd grade child could work out if something was installed on a car and it stopped working and then it was removed and the car started working again that the problem is with that part!
So, after almost 3 months I am now told, sorry, here's a $100 voucher for your time.
The dumbest solution to them losing 3 months of business and now me as a customer.
Absolute clown show. What makes matters worse is when the man came to remove the Bluetooth device I asked if they had issues with them, he told me he wasn't allowed to say anything but they have had many issues, including cars stopping while driving along the road.
BUYER BEWARE, UBER Carshare is an incredibly dodgy service with terrible support and they also take 40% of your booking fee, don't waste your time, it's a ripoff and they ruin your car and take no responsibilty for it because they are UBER and think we are all beneath them. I hope this review costs them thousands in lost business as that is what it has cost me to deal with their stupidity.
UBER are dangerous to Children
Booked Car Rental, and booked with a Child Seat. Turned up and they didnt have a child seat. They wouldn't refund me as the child seat is subject to availability - even though I pre-ordered and paid for it. They implied that I should just drive the car with my child not being secured (a legal requirement).

Beware: You WILL get charged for damage at some point.
Be very careful renting from Uber Car Share. There seems to be a type of insurance scheme going on. You can rent cars that are completely covered in scratches and dents, and depending on how detailed your photos of the vehicle are, they will blame you for damage despite having no clear evidence. Because you agree to the terms when you sign up, they make all the calls on determining fault, and will automatically charge your payment method without your consent for the full deductible. Beware, and if you must use this service, take lots and lots of photos both at pick-up and drop-off to avoid this scam. (and even with this, if someone else damages your rental, you are still on the hook for the full deductible).
Awful company
Needed a cab at 6pm Saturday evening. They quoted £17.50 for a 2.3 mile journey as classed as a 'high demand' time. Disgusting - avoid!!!
They have lost a good customer due to their bad policies
I have been a good customer over the years with the car rental company even when it was initially Car Next Door before Uber Carshare bought it out. Since it has become Uber Carshare it's become worse. I have been renting from the platform for the past 4 months due to my car being in for work at the mechanics. Recently I was charged the $500 distance fee for kms and I had no issue paying it, but because they weren't able to deduct it from my account straight away, they decided to refer it to debt collection instantly then proceed to charge me an extra $146.98 service fee. I would understand if I hadnt paid the fee after a while, but after a day? WOW. When I attempted to dispute the charge, they continued to tell me the charge is valid. What a greedy money hungry company. You have now lost a good customer. I ended my booking early purposely because of how unjustified this situation was. Bring back Car Next Door. Uber Carshare has turned bad. After many years, I will never use your car rental service ever again. If this is how you treat good paying customers, I am happy to use other options and give them my money. I will not be recommending your service to others anymore. Thanks. Bye.

Worst decision ever to borrow a car from Uber.
So much difference in what they are saying about the charges and what you will be charged. Renting a luxury car from other renters will be much cheaper than renting from them. If you are a first time borrower please make sure you take a screenshot or get a proof for their policy as when they will scam you they will change their policy in the app and then ask for the proof… Stop and try to ban them…

Learn from my mistakes
Pros: Decent car selection. Was able to find a car that was slightly less expensive than a traditional rental and appreciated being able to choose the vehicle unlike a traditional rental service. Seems to be a lot of last minute availability. My account was approved quickly.
Cons: Initial rental was cancelled 1 week prior to my trip with no reason given. They gave me a $20 credit. This was the only car within walking distance of my home, so I had to take an Uber to and from the pickup/drop off location for the new car, which was inconvenient.
Half way through my two day trip I learned my Carshare account had been revoked and I wouldn’t be able to rent cars again in the future. Turns out I had been driving too fast on the highway in Canada. They sent me a notification to warn me that if I didn’t drive slower this would happen, but it was a long distance trip and I was driving safely not looking at my phone so I didn’t see this warning until it was too late. I was driving over the speed limit but on Canadian highways this is fairly standard. I was going with the flow of the other cars. Not driving recklessly at all. I’m not sure how fast was too fast but be careful of this if you rent with them.
Gas is supposed to be reimbursed if you provide a tax invoice. I didn’t read the requirements of this carefully and my receipt from the gas station was ripped at the bottom (happens often from the machines). I guess the ripped part included some details they needed so I couldn’t be reimbursed. So not only was I charged for my kilometres driven but also wasn’t reimbursed for gas.
Finally, the pickup and drop off spot for the car I rented was in an underground parking lot that was rarely used. During pickup and drop off you need to spend a decent amount of time taking photos of the car in its current condition and uploading them to the app, which is slow. I didn’t feel safe spending 20 minutes standing outside a car in an abandoned parking garage. Make sure you allow ample time for this process.
Overall I’m not allowed to rent from Uber Carshare again but I don’t know if I would anyway…

Understandably, there are a few steps to work through for collection and return. Unexpectedly was 2 conflicting pickup locations on the same street more then 50 houses apart, and return wasn’t to the same location. Best to have plenty of battery life, allow time and read instructions before you arrive at the first booking. But overall well worth the learning experience.
Empty tank at pickup and not good for moving stuff
The car tank was empty and it waisted 20 min of my time to get fuel where my trip was very short and normally I woudn't need it if it was half
The car did not have any strap or fastener to help moving stuff.
The car has a big box at the back which made it hard to move long objects like door which I needed and did scratch my brand new doors.
There’s a reason they call it a “Protection Policy” and not Insurance. You are uninsured.
I wouldn’t normally bother writing a review of a product I haven’t follow through on using, but this needs to be called out.
Read the “insurance” PDS before deciding. If you hire an Uber Carshare you are as good as uninsured.
I was a bit confused why some reviews refer to being thousands out if pocket, so I read the protection/insurance policy.
This is not an “Insurance”, it’s a discretionary fund you contribute to where money is pooled, and they get to decide what they pay out even though Uber indicates certain things are covered.
Part of that decisioning process is to determine if a claim is in the funds best interest.
This is an unregulated product where a bunch of faceless people get to pick and choose whether you’re covered in an accident, and you have zero consumer protections. This is the definition of Junk Insurance and is predatory.
From their Product disclosure statement:
“We refer to our benefits as 'protection' to highlight the fact that the product we offer is not insurance”.
“To qualify as discretionary protection, it is important for the Board to have the absolute discretion to accept or reject a Member’s claim. Otherwise, there is a risk that the product would be considered an insurance product and the Mutual would be required to be authorised under the Insurance Act 1973 (Cth) (Insurance Act) to conduct an insurance business.”
“At its discretion, the Board may make a decision not to pay any claims resulting from an Event, or to make a
reduced payment, in the interests of all Members.”
