Van was ok but pickup experience and uber support sorely lacking
The van I booked was not there on time. I waited an hour while on chat support to find out where the hek the previous borrower had it. After leaving the pickup point eventually I got a note that the van looks like it's at the pickup point. This was 1.5 hours after I booked it. As I still needed to do my planned trip with the van I had no choice but to go back.
The communication was absolute rubbish and I was on hold for so long it's not funny.
Cmon you can do better. How much do you think 1.5 hours of my time is worth huh?

My experience with Uber CarShare has been nothing short of a nightmare. After my car was rented out through their platform, it was involved in a hit-and-run accident with a driver who was reportedly drink driving, leading to a prolonged and stressful police investigation. Here's what happened.
On a Thursday night, my car was driven into another vehicle and a tree before being abandoned on the side of the road. The police came to my door at 4:30 a.m. the following morning to inform me about the accident. I rushed to the police station at 8 a.m. to give a statement, spending hours explaining the details of my car rental through Uber CarShare.
The car was wrecked, and I had to take time off work to visit the police station, take photos for evidence, and try to understand what happened. Later that day, the renter, Darren, filed a report claiming my car was stolen from him, which didn't align with his earlier behavior, adding to the confusion and delaying the investigation.
Throughout the next few days, I was in constant contact with the police, dealing with a highly stressful and unpredictable situation. On Sunday night, a detective called me at 9 p.m. for more information, indicating the investigation was far from over. The following Monday, I returned to the police station to sign additional documents and submit a disturbing text message I received from Darren, involving a story about knives, which made me fear for my safety.
What's more alarming is that there was already a review on Darren's profile from a prior user, indicating he had caused an accident and lied to the police. Yet, Uber CarShare allowed him to rent my car, resulting in a similar nightmare for me. This could have been avoided if Uber CarShare had taken responsibility and not let someone with a history of reckless behavior rent again.
Despite the time and energy I invested in this ordeal, Uber CarShare has been painfully slow in responding and offering support. They took almost a week to send an assessor, and their compensation offer was laughable—just $3,350 for the total loss of my car, which is far below its value. They also paid me only for part of the booking period, even though the rental was extended. And they even took a $500 commission from my booking payout.
If you're considering using Uber CarShare, be aware that they are unresponsive and do not seem to take responsibility for the safety of their customers. The compensation policy might leave you in a tight spot, and they seem to ignore clear red flags from users. Think twice before trusting them with your property—you might end up spending hours at the police station with a wrecked car and little to no support from the company. I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone.
Avoid at all cost! SCAMMERS! EXTORTION!
Avoid at all cost! Extortion and scammers! Trying to blame me for a dead battery almost two weeks from when I rented the car through their app! (Rental date: 28th of April, 2024; Return date: 28th of April, 2024; Email to say Im at fault for dead battery 9th of May, 2024). I double checked that all lights and doors were closed before returning the vehicle according to the instructions. I even checked the dashboard through the closed window on the driver side to ensure that no lights or open doors were on and they have the nerve to send me a report to highlight the voltage of the battery is diminished? They have the nerve to tell me this could be due to a door not properly closed or lights still switched on despite me checking thoroughly! AVOID THESE GUYS AT ALL COST! They want to charge me an additional $100. Talk about extortion and money grabbing.
The system works pretty good except…
The system worked pretty good except the location for the lockbox is pretty vague, geolocation is only available after you find the lockbox which is difficult if located on the car which is a street or two away from the vague directions that are initially given for the lockbox.
Needs improvement
Car was difficult to find with photos that were not very useful.
Once found, the car was dirty inside and out, with a lot of trash everywhere.
I booked the car for a car trip with 6 people, and realized that one of the rear seatbelt does not anchor properly and wasn’t secure. Rear seats would sway front and back while the car is moving, which wasn’t very secure.
Car itself ran great, no issues with regards to mechanical aspects.

Worst customer service I have ever experienced
Genuinely some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced.
The issue originated with some damage to the car - which was fair enough. However, the issue arose when it came to getting this repaired.
In their documentation and help centre they state they will get at least 3 quotes and choose the cheapest. However, they didn't follow their own advice and when to the garage they always use which surprise surprise charged more than double the going rate.
I raised this once we got the initial quote, pointed them to their own documentation and asked for another quote. On the side I got my own quote and shared this with them. Radio silence for a week when they responded with "the car has been repaired, we've charged you, have a good week"
I raised this again - asking them to respond. Still no response other than "you have a UK phone number so we can't call you". I am still waiting for a proper response.
I definitely won't be using them again in the future. Use a proper car hire company - it's not worth the hassle.
Bad Experinece with Uber Carshare
I encountered difficulties signing up through the mobile app despite having previously registered via the web app. I had to contact the team to resolve issues.
Both the web and mobile apps presented challenges when attempting to upload photos, necessitating the use of email as an alternative method.
The inconsistency in accessing the lockbox code, both at the beginning and end of the trip, further underscores usability concerns. It delayed returning the key 15 minutes for which I was charged extra!
The car was old and dirty and smelly when I picked it up. It was clear from the pictures I sent to them. I returned the car as it was. They charged me 60$ for cleaning.
They should definitely do something, otherwise, the number of legal cases against them will increase and they will lose their business.
Lockbox on car did not function
Lockbox on car did not function. Spent a total of 45 minutes before and after trip negotiating with customer reps in the Philippines and India trying to get a code that would open the case. Did manage to get the case opened eventually, and the car was fine, but the whole experience was enraging. This service was great until Uber took it over. Will never use again.
Such an easy experience!
Such an easy experience compared to the generic hire care companies. This is easy, flexible and provides clear instructions for what you need to do, how insurance works and and what other charges are involved (if any). I’ll be using UberCarShare again!!!
