Thank you for your honest feedback. I’m Stuart, the CEO of Twine, and I wanted to personally respond to your review. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had a frustrating experience with our free membership.

I completely understand how it can feel disheartening when job applications fill up quickly. One factor is that remote jobs are often the most popular, as they’re relevant to more freelancers across our global network. These roles can reach the free application limit faster than local projects, which can sometimes create the impression that free members rarely get to apply.

To clarify, Twine offers a free tier to provide opportunities for freelancers at all stages, with 15 applications per month. Twine Pro, our paid membership, allows for 50 applications, direct client contact details, and increased visibility in searches. This model will help you avoid high commission fees on freelancer earnings, something we know many freelancers value.

We’ve chosen this approach to keep communication between freelancers and clients smooth, without acting as a middleman in payments. Update to your update:

I assure you, none of this has been quick or easy. We've been working on this for years and even had a fully commission-based model in the past (pre October 2023). But it created the issues I mentioned, and an additional issue: it put off clients posting jobs on the platform. We were told this by clients and we've seen it in the data. We doubled the monthly jobs on Twine in 2024, and expect to be able to accelerate this trend in 2025. The more jobs, and of course high quality jobs, the better experience for all involved.

Thank you for taking the time to give this feedback, I truly appreciate it. However, we aren't going to change our model. There will undoubtedly be tweaks (perhaps increasing levels of the free tier as you mentioned) but I'm more convinced than ever this model will create a better experience for all our customers.

I want to personally assure you that Twine is a genuine platform connecting real businesses with talented freelancers. Since launching in 2016, we’ve grown to over 700,000 freelancers globally and have worked with clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies.

All jobs posted on Twine go through a vetting process to help minimise fake listings and scams. However, like many platforms, we occasionally face fraudulent postings. When these occur, we act quickly to remove them and continually improve our systems to detect and prevent such activity.

We strongly encourage freelancers to report any suspicious jobs, and we’re always here to help if you have concerns about the legitimacy of a listing. Our goal is to create a trusted space for freelancers to find meaningful work, and your feedback helps us refine that process.
