Disappointing quality – website photos do not match reality (and customer service agrees)
I ordered wood samples based on the beautiful, warm, character-rich shelves shown on the website. Unfortunately, the samples received look nothing like the marketing photos. Even the "Natural" oiled sample is incredibly pale and flat-looking more like a cheap piece of fresh pine.
When I contacted customer service, their response was incredibly disappointing. They admitted to "massive variations" and explicitly told me they "wouldn't recommend ordering any further samples" because they cannot guarantee the colour.
In a follow-up, they explained that because they use Danish oils, the final shade is entirely dependent on the random board you happen to get, sending me photos of two completely different-coloured boards that supposedly had the exact same finish.
If a company knows their items arrive in completely different shades and tones, they should be using proper wood stains to match what is advertised on their website, rather than leaving it to luck.
To check if I was being unreasonable, I ordered samples from Still & Bloom, who also sell reclaimed board shelving. Their samples matched their website photography perfectly, proving that you can provide accurate representations of reclaimed timber if you care about quality control.
If a company openly admits they cannot control the appearance of their stock to match their own advertising, and tells customers to finish the product themselves, I cannot recommend buying from them. Total gamble. Avoid.
