The solar panel and electrical system installation team was simply great. They were well prepared, equipped, skilled and knowledgeable in their work. they worked steadily and always safety conscious a top of being friendly and professional and respectful.They completed the work in above average times.
Ms. Cassandra Gregory my customer service/activation representative, is nothing less than an exemplary employee for your company. She has a friendly greeting voice. She's caring, knowledgeable, takes action, communicates well and always answers or explains information that one is seeking. She'll always answers or return calls and text messages. Employees like these have reassured me I made the correct decision with Sun Run.

The whole process was very smooth from the “no pressure” sales pitch through the text letting me know that I was good to start it up. Any questions and/or concerns were answered quickly and respectfully.

I’ve been a solar customer for over 8 years, originally with Vivint then Sunrun took over roughly 3 years ago. Things were fine with Vivint where we saw a 20% savings. When Sunrun took over it became a living nightmare!
I wasn’t even aware of the transition for nearly a year. No calls, no emails—just mail I thought was junk. Then suddenly, Sunrun called demanding $1,000 with a threat of a $60,000 penalty and a lien on my home. I paid not wanting a lien on my home.
Months later, in June 2023, my solar panels stopped working. No update, no fix. I kept getting billed while my electricity costs jumped to $900/month. A rep finally promised repairs, paused billing, and reimbursement in April 2024—but NONE of that happened.
They canceled 3 appointments, and it took 10 months for anyone to show up. When a tech finally came, he said the panels had been down since June 2023 (it is now May of 2025), some destroyed by squirrels, and that Sunrun would try to charge me $3,000 for animal guards. He said that since I am an “add on customer through Vivint”, I am not a priority and am treated less than “true Sunrun customers”. He even admitted the company has a terrible reputation but “the pay is good.”
After nearly 2 years of a broken system, thousands paid in energy bills, and no accountability, I was told if I don’t pay $3,000, I’d be in breach of contract. UNACCEPTABLE!!!
I refuse to pay for a problem they’ve ignored and failed to fix. Sunrun: do better. Fix the system or cancel my contract without penalty.

Warning to Homeowners: Sunrun Denied Responsibility for Roof Damage
I am sharing my experience to help other homeowners considering Sunrun.
After having solar panels installed by Sunrun, a licensed independent contractor found significant roof damage caused by the installation, including cracked roof panels and improper penetrations. Despite clear evidence, Sunrun denied responsibility, closed my case without repairs, and left the damage unresolved.
I have since filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP).
Homeowners deserve companies that stand behind their work. In my experience, Sunrun failed to uphold their obligations under their own contract.
I encourage anyone considering Sunrun to proceed cautiously and thoroughly research customer reviews before signing any agreement.

Install went well but getting service after that is impossible. Shortest wait time for an appointment has been 4 weeks. Had a leak and needed panels moved for roof repair - told it would be four weeks. After two years the performance has gone down below what they promised but it has been two months and two visits and they have still not checked the panels because they haven't sent enough techs for the appointments and they keep rescheduling - going on 6 weeks now. Case workers will not answer your call, e-mail, or text - nor will they answer the support line assistants who can only tell you they tried but got no answer.
4/25/25 I have discussed the Sunrun issues with the support team and will reply with how it goes on this and other consumer report platforms.

I was quoted from several different solar companies trying to get me to do a loan for 75k+. SunRun came in and provided battery back up, panels and warranty with no upfront cost or loan. Now after a year and a half- had power during every outage and was able to store excess electricity and also sell back to the grid. Since then, 4 homes on our 2 trees also went with the program.
The Texas grid sucks and always lost power.

The install went great. The panels worked for about a year. Stopped working in June of 2024. Had a tech come out (after rescheduling 3 times) months ago after they'd already been broken for 6 months. He was here briefly and said he didn't have the part he needed and would have to order it. They contacted a month or so ago and told me to make an appt. I did. It was for this afternoon. I got probably 4 reminders of my upcoming appt. I get a message at 2:00 this afternoon from the technician that the part is still not in. Why have me make an appointment for a part that isn't there. I haven't produced electricity for nearly a year! Ridiculous!

If I could give Sunrun a 0 I would! We were told that we wouldn’t have to deal with RI Energy any more after installing 23 panels on our roof and we wouldn’t have an electric bill other than a fixed monthly bill from Sunrun. The things we were not told were that our monthly bill increases 3% every year for the 25 year contract, we can’t add panels or purchase the system at any time like we were told and of course the salesman doesn’t work for the company anymore. Now I have to call Sunrun directly and all of the people who I have spoken to, (with the exception of 1) have had a nasty attitude and said there is nothing they can do and that the system isn’t designed to cover the whole electric bill. I have actually added 7 more panels that I purchased outright from another company to cover what Sunrun didn’t and I wouldn’t recommend Sunrun for any solar installation or maintenance.

Edited to add: You will see that they continue to reply to people's reviews saying that they have updated via email and/or reached out. What you should not is that they don't actually resolve the issues. You can review all of the complaints at BBB as well.
Sales process went swimmingly. Of course, that is probably by design. Mussie, who no longer works there was kind and communicative. Fast forward to install. Seems to go well. Except, no, we start experiencing leaks in our bedroom ceiling and when our contractor looks at our roof, it's apparent that the installers drilled holes in the wrong spots, didn't correct the issue and just left our roof compromised. Tried to no avail to get it dealt with but SunRun does not care. It's never been fixed after years.
Fast forward again, we experienced a microburst in 2022 that sent trees and tree limbs flying. Solar panels were smashed. Called SunRun immediately after the adjuster left, sent them photos of the crushed panels, and their call center told us, "everything (data) looks fine for solar production so it's a non-issue." Oh, sure, because the photos of the smashed panels are just...not an issue? That was 2.5 years ago. I still don't have panel replacements, customer service is a joke, I have interior damage to my home.
Yesterday, techs showed up at our house without an appointment to replace our battery back up. That's been broken for over half a year. Apparently, calling us and making an appointment is too much to ask? We work from home and our child is home recovering from surgery. Again, is this good customer service? Spoiler alert: NO.
Their sales people reached out to me asking me to refer people to them for $1k. Absolutely not. You could not PAY ME ENOUGH MONEY to tell you something positive about this company and screw another human over. There isn't anything positive! If I could give zeroes across the board, I would. Do not walk, RUN from this company. It's the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. I am now dealing with them attempting to charge me to move the panels to fix the roof. They've been aware of this need for three years and have been in breach of their contract for THREE YEARS.

Terrible company, as a 20+ year electrician, I have been fixing their dangerous installs for a long time in this area. Their "electricians think they can just remove the limiters off of breakers so they can install tandem breakers on bussing spaces not rated for that. I never felt the urge to blast them online though, until some pimply faced kid interrupted my day by knocking and ring my door until I answered, then presented himself as if he was in partnership with PG&E, when I cut him off and said I didn't want to buy anything and to leave my property, he kept trying to go into his monologue. I told him louder to get off my property and then he started arguing with me. Would have been a bad day for him had he not left. I am now going to make it my mission in life to talk to every customer of mine about not using sunrun. Good move guys!

DO NOT CHOOSE SUN RUN- WORST DECISION EVER! The company makes you lease equipment that they don't properly monitor, and they make you pay a monthly service fee when they don’t provide professional or basic customer service. We went 5 months with our inverter being down, and no one even notified us until I contacted the company to complain about underproduction. The online portal made it appear that our system was fine, when in fact it wasn’t. I then had to speak to three different customer service reps to just schedule an appointment for a service tech to come because their 'appointment system was down' for three consecutive days! Each time, a rep guaranteed someone would call me back, and no one did. Then when I followed up for the third time, the only appt available was a month away! I then had to spend a month calling customer service reps, case managers and supervisors to resolve our issue and have someone fix the problem sooner than waiting another month. Reps and case managers said they would return calls and emails, but never did. Our case manager Amalia Aguirre actually hung up on us when we called her to complain that the service tech never showed up to fix the inverter; when we called her back, we only got a busy signal; she and her supervisor Jennifer McReynolds didn’t respond to either voicemail, text, or email for a week. I ended up having to call other customer service rep and try to get another case manager (this was promised and did not happen). I was repeatedly told that I could receive compensation for the 5 months of underproduction, but only ended up finding out that we didn't qualify for the performance guarantee reimbursement even with 5 months of our inverter being down. Every customer service rep read from a script and didn't even take the time to read the case notes or understand our concerns/issues as expressed, they just kept repeating the same lines. When Amalia Aguirre finally returned my calls/emails after a week, she didn’t even acknowledge her hanging up on us, and when I addressed it with her, she just said ‘Sorry, my phone system was down’. For a week? SunRun can’t resolve appointment scheduling or phone issues in this day and age? But they don’t have any issues of course taking payments or with their billing department or system. You end up paying monthly to lease solar products that don't work, aren't monitored, aren't serviced for months, and then have to speak with unprofessional staff that don't even have the professionalism and courtesy to respond to your concerns, calls, or outreaches, whether by phone or email. This lack of service was received by even the case managers and supervisors! Now we’re locked into a contract that we can't get out of unless we buy out the $20,000 of equipment. So basically you end up paying monthly for nothing, and there's nothing you can do about it. DO NOT GO WITH SUNRUN.

Sunrun has a non-cancelable 25-year contract unless you pay the remaining balance. Customer service often talks but does not take action. Additionally, you must pay SCE for electricity service.
