do not waste your money and time on getting sunrun. they showed us a plan and design that we will having 13 solar panels BUT they only installed 12 panels. When we reported it to them, they didn't even want to provide the missing panel and the case manager keeps on gaslighting us that its okay that they did not follow the design and plan that they promised. they even said that on their system it is showing 13 panels BUT only 12 is working (because they did not installed 13), given that said they don't want even to take responsibility.

Four years in, I’m dealing with a failed inverter, two months of downtime, higher utility bills, and a refund rate ($0.110/kWh) that’s far less valuable than promised (by Freedom Forever)—turns out they touted a $0.100/kWh cost but buried the refund terms. The contract is heavily weighted in Sunrun’s favor, and I’ve regretted it ever since.

Send false documents about a house we considered buying, after we bought and transferred service we had issues getting service turned on. Then come to find out they sent false docs and instead of 18k system saving $50 per month, it was a 14k system that would lose $50;a month if working optimally, but as it turns out by their numbers it only makes half what they say, and 1/4 what electric company says. Spent 2 months trying to work it out with them, now paying $5k for lawyer to handle it. Avoid them at all costs, liars and fraudsters

If you are thinking of using this company don’t. Their customer service consists of them giving you estimates to fix the problems that there panels create. The installation at is on my home is an eye sore. Then comes the pigeons. They install the panels then when your home becomes infested with birds their solution is for you to pay to correct the problem. This company is a scam. I would stay as far away from them as possible.

Sunrun is THE worst company to do business with! From the moment the sales person, Taylor, left our home, it has been one problem after the other.
1. After the initial assessment was completed to determine where the battery would be installed, NO ONE contacted us to inform us that it could not be installed where Taylor said it would be.
2. The NIGHT before (7pm) the install (7am) I received a text with a photo of our shed area and instructions that ALL of the stored items we have back there needed to be moved BEFORE the team arrived the next morning. THIS was our notification that the batter could not be installed in the indiscreet, convenient location we were promised.
3.On the day of the install the team lead let me know that the conduit would be installed up the southwest wall, across the length of the house to the panels, over the east side of house and back down the east wall. Whereas we were told that NOTHING would be visible from the front or sides of the house. I refused to go forward with the install. Upon which, the lead called Taylor who had promised to be on sight during install to insure everything would be done according to plan. Obviously, he was not. Then they said it could be installed through the attic, but upon inspection, they could not fit equipment through certain sections of the attic. FINALLY, the lead determined another location that would minimize the amount of conduit required and allow for it not to be seen from the front of the house.
4. I had to insist that the conduit be painted to better camouflage into the roof. (THE TEAM WAS KIND AND GRACIOUS about this.) They had no paint so they used all that I had on hand, then left to buy more. I did the bulk of the spray painting to save time.
5. Toward the end of the very long install, I noticed where the person who installed the control box had left a gaping space in the stucco all around the box. And he just left it that way! I asked the lead about it and he said he'd take care of it. Next, I was asked for rags, to which I asked what they were for so I knew which rags to grab. He said they were to stuff into the wall where they cut the hole. What?! That's what you might do to your own drywall patch job, but NOT A MULTI-M/BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY! The lead said that is what they always do and did not have proper materials to fix it PROFESSIONALLY. I refused to allow that patch job to be done. So he said someone would have to come back to fix properly.
6. I had to run an errand. The team had left for the day when I returned. As I pulled in the driveway, I saw a long section CONDUIT running across the top ridge of my roof and along the northeast side!
7. I had to take up another day to wait for them to come back and reroute and paint new conduit. BUT it was not rerouted to not be visible from the northeast side. And the connectors and hardware for conduit was not painted, which made everything look even more unsightly.
8. And sill another day taken out for the stucco repair.
9. I was told by the stucco repair person (NICE/HELPFUL GUY) that someone would call to schedule inspection. NO CALL/NO SCHEDULE!
10. With no prior notice, someone came for the inspection but I was not available and had to wait for them to contact me to reschedule. By this time I had given THREE separate Sunrun staff the correct contact information. Each one stated they updated it in the system. YET SUNRUN KEPT using the incorrect number they had from the salesperson.
11. Once the city came out with Sunrun, they found that the BATTERY WAS NOT BRACKETED/SECURED to the wall properly. It took THREE tries for Sunrun and the city to get the inspection completed.
12. NO ONE GAVE US ANY GUIDANCE, INSTRUCTIONS OR INFORMATION ABOUT INSTALLING AN APP until the last inspection staff person happened to say as he was leaving, "yeah you can check it in your app." WHAT APP?! Not even an email with instructions about how to monitor the system -- NOTHING.
13. THEN FIVE MONTHS LATER we get a random text from Taylor (salesperson) do something on our Tesla app. WHAT TESLA APP?! NO ONE TOLD US ABOUT A TESLA APP! So I text him that we did not have the app. He sent a link to the app. I installed it and IT DOES NOT CONNECT TO OUR BATTERY.
14. After 2 texts and a voicemail to Taylor NOT REPLIED TO, I called Sunrun's sham of a "customer service" department today. After 3 DISCONNECTION and 3 PASSING THE BUCK phone calls, I was told I must CALL TESLA to resolve the issue.
15. I DESPISE SUNRUN AS A BUSINESS PROVIDER AND DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE USE THEM FOR SOLAR.

My mother is going through it with them, they charged her like 29k for installation of some crappy panels.
This is a company that has no ethics.
Do not get anything they offer.
Now she is paying this loan for something that does not work and she is also paying regular electricity. I’m taking legal action soon.

Ever since we installed solar panels on our house with SUNRUN we have had major roof leaks with the yearly rain. We have had the panels for about 6 years now and there has not been any year where we had roof issues at least 2 times each year. Every leak is directly related to one of the panels. They are not taking responsibility for the install nor for the leaks that ensued. We have since spent at least another $15K out of our own pockets to repair the roof each time (at least 6+ separate incidents). We are now dealing with the 7th one. SUNRUN has continuously refused to help, saying it has nothing to do with them, even though all the sites of the leaks are directly caused by their install. I would never recommend this company to anyone else. Our experience has been shockingly terrible and I'm so disappointed that COSTCO is still partnering with them. If you are thinking about solar panels, please do your research. I would not recommend SUNRUN at all.
**Update 2/10/2025:
Sunrun reached out to us regarding my honest review. We gave them information and invoices/receipts on how much we've paid for panel removal, roof leakage repair (due to install), etc. It was close to $30K. I asked they reimburse at least $11K of the most recent repair costs- which happened in 2024. SUNRUN themselves charged us $2900 in 11/2024 (yes, just last year - still having issues since 2019) to remove panels so the roofer could inspect the roof/leakage (again, RELATED to panel install). We had to pay SUNRUN just to remove so we could inspect. Then pay SUNRUN to put panels back on.
After reviewing all this information, they could not bring themselves to even cover their own charge. They have offered $1000 to close this case. No thanks.
SUNRUN and Costco have ended their 10+ year partnership, as of 12/31/24. Now Sunrun will try to sell through LOWE's. Beware of sales reps at Lowe's trying to sell this to you.
If you have an additional $30K lying around that you don't mind throwing away, or if you don't mind paying for a service then having little support provided even if your product is still under warranty, then you could take a chance on Sunrun.
We have now spent $60K on a $30K solar panel installation and dealt with several leaks in our children's bedrooms, and multiple trips from the roofer trying to pinpoint problems, since 2019.
I believe you can get a better install, better pricing, better service from others. Please do your research.

Sunrun is an unethical company that preys upon the elderly. A door to door salesperson visited my 82 and 89 year old parents three times. The third time, the salesperson came with an aggressive male who convinced my parents to sign a 25 year contract for solar panels they did not need.
My mom understood that everything would be free and that her electricity bill would go down. Installation was free and her bill did go down, but my mom was blindsided when she started getting a $166 monthly bill that will continue for 25 years. She was paying $80-$100 month prior and the salesperson knew that. My mom would not have agreed to paying double for electricity if she had fully understood what she was signing.
When I filed a complaint to sunrun, they said they have a recording of my mom agreeing to the terms of the contract so there is nothing we can do.
The attorney general of CT has just filed a lawsuit against Sunrun for this very thing. I am urging the AG of CA to do the same.

Just had a knock on my door by a person who claimed he was 'working in the area and that there is a problem with my electric meter'. He then demanded access to my meter claiming he was with PG&E. I informed him that PG&E employees do not wear Sunrun shirts. I then asked to see his REQUIRED soliciting permit my town requires. He claimed he didn't need one and that Sunrun has a 'partnership' with PG&E. They do not. None of the solar companies have any partnership with PG&E. He again claimed that he needed access to my meter and I told him to get the hell off my property and that he ILLEGALLY is knocking on doors without a permit AND also violated the law that bans knocking on doors with no soliciting signs. He then proceeded to go harass my neighbors. I called the police to ticket him. Sunrun will lose any ability to knock on doors in this town with these actions. If you are this crooked just trying to sell your stuff I feel sorry for any sucker who actually buys anything from Sunrun. You never will have me as a customer by disrespecting the law, truth, facts, and prospective customers with dishonesty and ignoring our request for privacy in our own homes like this. Stop telling your sales people to ignore no soliciting signs!!

I want to share my experience with Sunrun to warn potential customers about the significant issues I’ve faced with their solar system purchase process.
My experience with Sunrun has been extremely frustrating, especially regarding the Fair Market Value (FMV) appraisal for the solar system I purchased. Despite repeated requests for clarity, Sunrun has provided zero transparency. Here’s a breakdown of my issues:
Vague and Ambiguous Contract Terms:
The contract I signed with Sunrun lacks essential details, particularly around the FMV appraisal process. There is no clear explanation of how they determine the FMV of the system, nor does the contract identify the independent appraiser or explain the methodology used. This left me with no way to assess whether I was being charged a fair price.
Failure to Follow Through on Contractual Obligations:
Sunrun is supposed to hire an independent appraiser to establish the FMV, but after several attempts to contact them, I still haven’t received any information about the appraiser or when the process would start. Sunrun also failed to provide any details on how they determine FMV or when I can expect to get the appraisal report.
Poor Communication and Delays:
Sunrun’s communication has been poor from the start. The delays in providing necessary information have made it difficult for me to make an informed decision about the purchase. It’s been weeks without answers.
Lack of Compliance with Consumer Protection Laws:
Their lack of transparency and failure to provide clear, accurate information raises concerns about whether they are adhering to California’s consumer protection laws, which require businesses to be transparent and fair in their dealings.
Final Thoughts:
I’m extremely disappointed with Sunrun’s handling of this process and would caution anyone considering their services. Their lack of transparency, failure to follow through on their contractual obligations, and poor communication make it difficult to trust them. If you’re looking for a reliable and transparent solar provider, I suggest looking elsewhere.
Do your research and beware before signing anything with Sunrun.

What a terrible company and experience. They prey on elderly customers who don’t understand solar nor the terribly written contracts. While they collect state and federal tax incentives they charge heavily inflated prices for low quality and poorly designed and installed solar systems. Want any support, good luck you will have to speak with multiple employees, many of whom barely speak English. You will get different stories and excuses along the way. Solar not providing the power promised in contract? Well they are going to keep charging you money and you can wait months for them to send someone out. If they show up you will just get an excuse of well I have to get authorization to fix then I can order parts. As their name implies, RUN AWAY!

Pushy, predatory, rude. Sunrun is pushy to get an appointment with you. They are supposed to be giving you an estimate. They don't let you know in advance that they are going to start assigning you tasks. When you tell them that you have to work and you don't have time to jump through their hoops of fire, they start berating you, pushing you to do what they want, and then start asking you if there are other people you know who might want solar. They are evasive about asking questions when scheduling the appointment. They show all the signs of being predatory and trying to railroad you into their "program".

Customer service is the worst. They tell you someone will get back to you later in the day or call you back in 10 minutes and the don't. Try to get someone out to fix the WiFi and Sunrun wants me to sign a document wanting me to pay them $500+ to troubleshoot the system. It's got a 25 year parts/labor warranty so why do they want me to pay???
I would suggest that you look for a different company for solar.

I am following up on multiple inquiries made through Sunrun Customer care email. My system was malfunctioning back in August. At that time my air conditioner went out. The air conditioner technician notified me that the breaker in the subpanel installed by sunrun did not have the correct breaker. This may had led to the failure. I contacted sunrun and they sent out a technician approximately 1 month after the initial call. In the intern I had to replace the air-conditioning system as well as pay an electrician to place the correct breaker. I also had to pay the electrical company because my electrical bill was high because the system was not working correctly. I had the same problem back in May and I had to have the technician return and replace the breaker after the initial thought by the electrician was the freezer in the garage was tripping the system. I removed the freezer, yet I still had the problem. The technician had given me his number to call if I continued to have the problem. The problem continued, so came and replaced the main breaker that was tripping. Then in August the same problem happened. Now in September when the technician came, he had to get assistance on the phone from his colleague because he believed there was a problem with the Tesla system, and they had left him on the phone for over an hour. He was about to leave my home with the issue unresolved because he stated he timed out. I not sure what he did but he caused the electricity to complete go out in the home. Therefore, he stayed and after some assistance on the phone with his colleague he ultimately changed the same breaker Gabe had changed. At that point the power went back on. He would be back to change the breaker to the same one the system has but it should work for now. He stated sunrun would call me to schedule that. That call never happened. I also received a call the following day (9/20/24) and I was informed that sunrun would call me on tuesday which would have been 9/24/2024 to tell me how the system is working. I did not receive a call on 9/24/24 and It's been 4 weeks since I was supposed to get that call and I never have. I also called case representative office and let you know how I was feeling about the whole situation but never got a response.
This has been extremely frustrating to work with a company who has no regard for the customer. I am paying into a system that has caused me multiple problems and damaged my home. The system was only installed a year ago and it continues to cause electrical issues which I never had in the past. I have sent all the receipts and pictures requested for my case that should be in my file case number. I really do not know what else to do but to seek legal action. I do not have confidence in sunrun anymore.

They are the worst. They have caused massive delays. My system was installed June 2023 and is still not operating. They provided inaccurate paperwork, they had a faulty knowledge of the city requirements and are unresponsive. All of these issues caused delays. I installed a system at a vacation house and used a different company. No problems with them Do NOT use Sunrun

My experience with SUNRUN has been very costly, time consuming and disappointing.
SUNRUN installed my system 2019. Said they would come back and review system and make sure it was working correctly.
I never heard back from them.
I have called them several times regarding my production. I pay estimated $3,000 per year for my power on top of solar bill. Example 2024 I have only had one month that is produced more than I have used.
Communication part went out is 2022. Cost me $300. not under warranty.
Have called several times last couple of days-finally spoke with case manager and customer service. They do not guarantee production. They will not compensate for their system not producing enough.
I went thru Costco and hope they can help.

Sunrun started installing my system in March of this year, bit it is still not operational 6 months later after multiple installation visits to fix parts of the system and two failed county inspections followed by repairs. Beyond this technical incompetence customer support is non-existent, consisting of web chat with people who know nothing and can do nothing. Avoid at all costs is my advice.

Let's just add one more dissatisfied customer to the ever-growing number of complaints. In 2022 I was advised by one of their third party contractors that two panels were inoperative. Every year they send out techs to test the system, and they agree to this fact. When they showed up this year, on or about July 2024, they again sent out their tester, and he too agreed, two panels are not operating. My latest bills for June, July, and A$148, $213, and $232. Where is their compassion for Seniors living on a fixed income? They Attorney General of NYS should stop them from doing business in New York.
