Gastroenterology consultant/secretary QEQM failed to respond to phone calls, voice mails and e mails. Also no reply to web form sent. All a waste of time and hardly inspiring for a Private Hospital!

Overnight & rotator cuff repair
All staff whether surgeon or kitchen staff were excellent. Five stars here but
Sleep was impossible due to noise of the bed.
Breakfast was poor quality - bread and cereal.
The price for this operation was expensive.

At one time I had four people in my…
At one time I had four people in my room asking questions. As I partially deaf I found it very difficult to understand, when they were speaking over each other.
I wasn’t made aware of the lift to first floor on admission. My wife discovered it when she visited.
Very helpful Senior Nurse who looked at my wound that had been bleeding a lot when my wife was worried about changing the dressing.

The whole booking procedure was a mess
The whole booking procedure was a mess. at every stage given the wrong information and was final admitted to Day Surgery. I never was given the Room reserved for me and paid for by me. I was told Spencer had no bed for me and wasasked to stay at QEQM on a busy noisy ward. I would like to complain and need to speak to the Manager of Spencer,

Fantastic, thank you Mr Slack for my new hip.
My treatment from my consultant Mr Slack and his secretary Janet were top class and helped me emmensley through my painful time. Once through the system it was quick and easy, giving instructions via phone calls and emails. Nothing was too much trouble for Janet and Mr Slack. The Spencer wing staff and Maxine were brilliant, Nothing was too much trouble. Physio experience excellent, as well as the Ot they explained it well. So much so I only was there for 2 evenings. Thank you for giving me my life back after having a New Total Hip replacement. I'm now walking without any bone pain, it's marvellous, should have done this 2 years ago.

I feel very grateful for having this procedure undertaken during the current difficult times. Staff have to deal with all the usual work issues and the consequences of Covid. They did it well.

Fantastic service and staff
Fantastic service and staff, I felt totally looked after. Should be 5 stars, however the ward is uncontactable by phone (even my consultant couldn't get anyone to answer) and the discharge process took about 3 hours longer than it needed to.

my pre-op assessment was carried out in a friendly and professional manner.
Very good service
I didnt know what to expect going in to a private hospital and I have to say I was very impressed. I was referred by my GP as a NHS patient and was able to go online and book my appointment date and time. The waiting time from my first appointment to the surgery was a little longer than I thougt it might be but the service provided overall was very good from both the admin side and the medical side. Would choose again if I had to.

I contacted the Spencer Private…
I contacted the Spencer Private Hospital at the William Harvey site in Ashford about a private appointment they said they could not tell me the name of the consultant until they had seen my referral. I Said at the time this seemed an odd request up front but I duly sent this PII classified material to there reception email address. They said I would have a response in 24hours. A week later with no acknowledgement or response I called the main reception who said they had my request then put me through to the same booking agent. He remembered speaking with me but said they had no way of checking who picked up my personal information or who was dealing with it. The only option was to send it again but I asked if there was any way to check it had been processed and they have no way to check what they recieved. They are an absolute shambles and are handling personal information. I have taken my business elsewhere and still have no idea who has my personal Information. Please stay clear of this place. Who knows what the treatments would be like if they are this disorganised.

Spencer ward don't answer the phone…
Spencer ward don't answer the phone when you call to check on a patient staying there. I called the switchboard at QEQM and was put through to Spencer Ward for the phone to ring for an hour before I gave up. The same thing happened later the same day.

Appreciate the professional care
I had a procedure today and cannot fault the staff one little bit. From the moment I arrived I was spoken too with respect and reassured I was going to be okay. The 2 nurses and consultant Papadopoulos were amazing and professional throughout. I reacted badly to the procedure for personal reasons but I was comforted throughout and looked after extremely well.

Appointment with surgeon
Appointment with surgeon. I was advised after checking-in that he was running a little late. I was however called through almost immediately.
Received follow up telephone calls from Spencer Hospital concerning current situation re. COVID and a further call from surgeon's private secretary advising revised date for operation.
Excellent telephone communication between surgeon's private secretary/myself keeping me up to date with situation.

A bad experience
I chose the Spencer hospital as I thought this was a private hospital at the back of the William Harvey Hospital Ashford but it is just a 4 bed unit in the middle of William Harvey Hospital. A small room with a tiny en-suite that you had to empty of a clinical waste bin and ordinary waste bin to get in and wash. No toiletries provided just a few facial wipes and an old NHS hand towel, unlike the lovely fluffy blue towels in their advertising. I found hairs in the wash basin plug hole. Food awful NHS food. No reading light over bed. A dreadful experience.
The consultant was excellent and very caring, but wish I had gone to the One Hospital which was close by.
A very expensive experience and I would not recommend it.
A stress free experience
All the staff were very nice, from the cleaners, porters, nurses and surgeons etc very clean facilities and a helpful team that regularly checked up to make sure I was comfortable. I had one cooked meal that was delicious and a constant supply of water and tea (and biscuits!!!). The experience was as nice as it could have been and I certainly didn't feel stressed or anxious at all. The only thing I wasn't so sure on was the communication of aftercare regarding how to look after my care for my surgery, stitches, dressing while waiting for the stitches to be removed (I was given a spare dressing but nothing mentioned about how long to wear it, or extra gauze for underneath for when I did change it. I bought more off Amazon as there was a long space between leaving hospital and having stitches removed) etc and how to continue with my existing medication. But I may not have worded my queries accurately enough in fairness.
