Rude staff…
My partner and I wanted to participate in the murder mystery experience. We had tried getting dates/times online but it was difficult to confirm. We called the Birmingham branch and the staff was so rude and unfriendly, I was so confused because WE HAVE NEVER MET THIS PERSON EVER. like why be so rude.
I will never recommend here to anybody.

⭐ 1 Star
⭐ 1 Star – Terrible Customer Service. Proceed With Caution Before Booking.
I visited Six by Nico Bristol on 15th October for their Murder Mystery evening, spending approximately £160. Unfortunately, the experience wasn’t particularly impressive. We left still feeling quite hungry, although I’ll give credit where it’s due — the food itself wasn’t bad.
We were also charged for four drinks despite only ordering three. At the time, I decided not to raise it as I couldn’t be bothered arguing over the price of one drink.
I’d actually booked the Murder Mystery evening by mistake, as the menu I originally wanted to experience was on 20th October. So, despite the first experience, I’d made a second booking.
Unfortunately, tonight’s experience was considerably worse.
We were running late for our reservation, so between myself and my partner, we attempted to call the restaurant nearly 20 times to let them know we were still coming. Nobody answered.
When we were approximately 10 minutes away, I received an attempted charge of £88 on my card, which I blocked.
Interestingly, they apparently had time to attempt to take payment but couldn’t find the time to answer a telephone.
I immediately called again and finally managed to speak to somebody, only to be told that our table had already been given away.
At this point, we were approximately five minutes from the restaurant.
Yes, we were running late, and I fully accept that. We would have arrived approximately 45 minutes after our reservation time. However, that’s precisely why we’d been repeatedly trying to contact them.
Not once did the restaurant attempt to call us before giving our table away or attempting to charge £88.
A simple phone call, or even answering one of our numerous attempts to contact them, would have allowed us to explain the situation and find out whether our booking could still be accommodated.
Instead, they apparently decided it was easier to give our table away and attempt to charge us regardless.
I completely understand that restaurants have policies regarding late arrivals and no-shows. However, there is a considerable difference between somebody who simply doesn’t turn up and somebody who is actively trying to contact the restaurant to explain they’re running late.
If you’re going to enforce strict cancellation policies and charge customers significant amounts of money, surely the absolute minimum you should provide is a functioning method of communication.
Two bookings in the space of five days, approximately £160 already spent, an incorrect drinks charge, nearly 20 unanswered calls, a wasted journey and an attempted £88 charge.
It’s a shame because the food itself has potential, but the customer service has completely put me off returning.
Proceed with caution before booking. If anything goes wrong or you’re running late, don’t expect anyone to answer the phone — but they may still attempt to charge your card.
Slow, cold and dirty
Terrible service from a recent visit to the Bristol restaurant. Most of the food was cold, plates and cutlery dirty. Plus when I discovered an insect floating in my wine I was not given an apology just a roll of the eyes from our server. Shocking experience!
FUN AND DELICIOUS FOOD
I’m not sure why this restaurant has so many bad reviews. Maybe people are dead inside and can’t find any joy through the innovative food and whimsical themes. I took my mom and aunt here and absolutely loved it. I thought every dish was very good if not excellent. Obviously some were better than others but i didn’t have a bad bite. the wine was cold and delicious and paired nicely with each dish. We had the circus theme and i really truly enjoyed it. My mom and aunt also thought i was a unique experience. Service was also attentive and quick.
Canary Wharf branch
Canary Wharf branch - Diabolical Communication Skills.
I made a booking in error last night online, booked the wrong date.
The website doesn't allow you to cancel a booking online without calling.
I have tried calling 7 times now - left two voices mails over 5 hours and sent two emails to try and cancel!
If not enough notice is given to cancelling SixbyNico will charge me for non-attendence but it is impossible to talk to someone let alone cancel.
I did ultimately wish to be rebook as my partner is a big fan but this experience is making me very conflicted.
Please reach out to resolve.
Slightly Disappointed
Used a voucher we had been given at Six by Nico in Edinburgh. First impressions were not great - the planter outside was very unkempt and full of cigarette butts and the reception could only accommodate 2 people at a time so you had to stand out on the street.
The food was reasonable but you did feel you were on a conveyer belt and we had to ask them to slow down. We took the wine pairing and these were reasonable for the price but relatively average in quality.
Overall, quality and, in particular, ambience were below what we were expecting.
Would not recommend.
Don’t recommend Gift Voucher
I have ordered a Gift Voucher for a friend’s birthday to be sent to their phone number. Couple days pass and my friend had nothing delivered. I have started a chain on emails with them and no answer in 7 days! For a chain like this, their customer service is awful. All they give you is an email address. Might have to discuss this with my bank to get my money back.
Visited on Sunday for the Circus menu
Visited on Sunday for the Circus menu. We go regularly to Six by Nico but this time I was a bit apprehensive with regard to the menu. There was nothing to worry about, the meal was fantastic, my favourites were the tomato tartar and the corn lollipops. We had the cocktails and they were amazing, especially the apple ones.
The only negative was that it was a little time between the courses to start with but it was understandable as they were fully booked. We stayed longer at the bar and had another couple of cocktails.
Looking forward to the next menu.
Avoid, you will be let down by poor standards
We were very excited and had reasonably high expectations about our visit to this establishment for our anniversary.
Having experience with other restaurants in the area offering tasting menus (Gorse, Heaney's, Home in Penarth, Thomas by Tom Simmons, etc) we had a benchmark for our overall experience expectations including food, service and ambiance.
We tried The Circus Tasting Menu.
The food was good, just good though. Some parts of the tasting menu were bland at best - such as the corn dog, the so called 'churros' and some of the garnishes. The taste or consistency of churros had nothing to do with churros. There is no association with churros.
The environment was very noisy, chaotic and cramped (with guests and staff). The rest rooms were not up to standards either. They were messy and not clean. If you are after a relaxing and special occasion environment, you won't get it here. There is no sense of joy or feeling welcomed, just rush, running back and forth of the staff and chaos. It feels like fast food style of tasting menus.
The quality of the service is worse than the environment and its atmosphere. There is no attention to detail, just pragmaticism. No effort was shown to make you feel comfortable. Our waitress offered us a drink menu at the beginning but we made clear that we would rather have a cocktail at the end of the dinner. We didn't feel for wine, we don't like to adulterate the taste of the tasting menu (or lunch and dinner in general) with soft drinks either. It was a tasting menu and we wanted to enjoy it our way. When we reached the Forth Course, she asked again if we were ready to order a cocktail. It came out of nowhere and our answer was the same: 'No, we will have a cocktail at the end'. She was obviously annoyed (maybe on commission??) saying that if we don't order drinks now, we may not have time to finish them! That was jaw dropping! What?! We asked when do they need the table back and she said that there is no limit but there are other bookings! ???? What?! At no point we were made aware that there is a time limit and not even in our worst dreams we could have imagined that we wouldn't be allowed to finish our drinks. She brought the Drinks menu again but at that point our experience was ruined and we decided NOT to have any cocktails at all. When she came back, she was even more obviously annoyed. Matching our disappointment! The rest of the dinner was just a necessary ordeal because all we wanted was to be gone from there.
It seems like you need to pay extra for good manners and a welcoming demeanour. The service standards are way below the expected one, without caring, she didn't even attempt to pretend to be nice. They ruined our evening.
We had cocktails across the road in the Nightshade Bar (part of Pasture and Parallel) and they were fantastic! The staff there is fantastic, attentive, a smile is not an extra you need to pay for and they know how to treat guests.
Our experience wasn't only disappointing but unpleasant.
It was an obvious chain tasting menu conveyor belt experience without depth and care.
Choose different venue if you are looking for a pleasant experience.
LEEDS
LEEDS - BEWARE OF RESERVATIONS! I absolutely understand a cancellation charge for not turning up. However charged the full price of meals for booking seems a bit extreme, particularly when we booked on the day and called multiple times (never picked up just an answering machine) and left messages to explain a sudden serious illness which would prevent us attending later that afternoon (2:45pm weekday reservation). Not even the courtesy of a return call as requested to confirm they had had our message. Customer service is a vital part of fine dining, as Six By Nico consider themselves. The lack of contact is truly unacceptable and off-putting.
Not the Amalfi coast - more Paddington station in rush hour!
Rather disappointing experience at Six by Nico in Leeds. Most of the dishes arrived cold or lukewarm at best. The dishes were not greatly inspiring and the whole experience felt very rushed. The serving staff had learnt their presentation well but it was delivered with such speed it was difficult to understand. Whilst they had learnt their lines they were unable to answer any supplementary questions on the food or wine. When I gave feedback the response from the waiter was "Well it's the last time we are serving this menu so it doesn't matter".
Great experience
We want to shout out Francis at the Manchester branch. He was very professional and informative. Good price point. We shared the wine pairing and add on dishes which helped to keep the cost down without missing out on the dishes. Great experience, we also got a complimentary glass of Prosecco as we were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary.
A very disappointed Nico
We went to the Leeds branch and boy were we disappointed. The scripted background stories to each dish didn't work from an 18 year old member of staff. The dishes were ok flavour wise but the portion size wou literally feed a mouse. Get ready to pay a lot of money for not much. With a couple of drinks the bill came to £75 each and you need to factor in a take away when you leave to fill you up. No wonder Nico lives in Dubai, this place was daylight robbery.
Superb restaurant and would highly recommend.
I don’t know what people are complaining about but I think six by Nico is a brilliant restaurant and I have never had a single bad experience, even when we’ve been fifteen minutes late to our table they still greet us with open arms. The staff are super friendly and have even give us free cocktails and wines on some occasions, the pacing of the courses are perfect and every single one taste brilliant and never fails to meet your demands. I have only ever been to the Manchester branches but like I say they never fail to surprise and satisfy me. Would highly recommend and would tell you to give it a go or another go if you’ve had one bad experience.
Bristol Six by Nico
Bristol Six by Nico
I Know they need a cancellation policy but people cannot help being ill. Not only had they already been paid in vouchers which ran out in day of booking , they then put through charge of £78 .
My husband and daughter both left messages on answer machine and nobody rang back - totally rubbish customer service.
Dublin - avoid
Dublin - I bought gift vouchers in the Cyber Monday sale. No notification that they were short dated on ad (that I noticed) or receipt. Recipients did not notice they were short dated (just over three months) and they were useless. Food and drink was disappointing and manager though apologetic and seemingly used to this issue was powerless to do anything.
Terrible Booking Experience
This would have been our first time in Six By Nico but due the really bad booking experience, we will not be going.
Made a booking last week using their online booking system but received no confirmation email so I tried calling the branch. It went to voicemail so I left a message.
Having had no reply, I called them again yesterday and left another voicemail and also sent an email to their customer experience email address.
Still no reply to either the voicemail or the email.
Only problem I see is that they have now stored my payment details, which I'm not happy with.
Definitely would not recommend based on the terrible booking experience.
Absolutely terrible service
Absolutely terrible service. They say you have the table for 2 hours, but there was a 30-45 minute wait between courses! over 3.5 hours to get the meal!
The first course was mush, you'd to lick it off a bit of paper..... and it got worse from then. Staff were obtuse to say the least & it was difficult to even get a drink between the long wait for food....they then added a £10 per person service. Avoid!
Manchester Deansgate
Manchester Deansgate - The food was generally very good but we were seated near the toilets and the unsavoury smell was unpleasant. We asked to be moved but the best they could do was a couple of tables away so it was still a bit unpleasant. The service was lacking as they were slow with drinks and 3 of the courses were presented with no cutlery. We were told it would be a 20 minute wait for the final course and when we objected it arrived immediately. The bill was reduced because we were unhappy but it was still £300 for a sub-standard birthday celebration for 4.
