Feedback on Grey Knight Armor
I am writing to provide feedback on the Grey Knight Armor PDF I recently purchased. While I had high expectations for this product upon visiting your page, the quality of the armor instructions in the PDF fell below what I anticipated.
My primary disappointment stems from the color guide, which exclusively references Vallejo paints. As I primarily use Citadel paints, this significantly reduces the immediate usefulness of the instructions for me.
I did find the purchasing service to be satisfactory, with a quick response time. However, I am disappointed with the lack of Citadel paint equivalents in the PDF instructions.

With regard to your comments on the Grey Knight Armour PDF, I feel it’s important to clarify the purpose of our tutorials. These resources are designed to teach techniques, principles, and processes—not to cater to every specific paint range on the market. In this instance, Vallejo paints were used, but the colours are easily matched across all major ranges, including Citadel. Developing the ability to colour-match by eye is a fundamental skill for any miniature painter, and one we encourage as part of artistic growth and one that we encourage you to develop as a painter.
Your expectation that a general-purpose foundation tutorial should be tailored to your specific paint collection is, quite frankly, unrealistic. We cannot—and do not claim to—provide fully brand-customised instructions in our downloadable tutorials. As this is a foundation tutorial and clearly stated as one, the expectation of a tailored to your set up or paint range is again unrealistic. If you require a demonstration built entirely around your preferred range and personal setup, we do offer one-to-one tuition services that are designed for that level of bespoke support and these sessions are purchasable on our website.
Leaving a negative review because a general resource doesn’t cater to highly specific, personal preferences is not a fair reflection of the product or its intent. We stand by the quality and educational value of our tutorials, and believe they offer considerable benefit to painters who approach them with realistic expectations.
Nonetheless, thank you again for your feedback.

I took the Essentials 1 course in London a week ago, I went in as an almost complete beginner, only had 5 miniatures under my belt. The course was packed with useful informations, you can find a lot of stuff online but if you lack the knowledge to discern what's actual useful information and what isn't then you risk wasting a lot of time. James was great, very direct, straight to the point. Extremely recommended to anyone that's beginning their painting journey but also to more experienced painters, I think there's something to take away from the course for everyone. I'm definitely gonna do the Essentials 2 in November.

5-star painting course
Simply a fantastic experience. I took part in the 2-day Essentials Master Course, where we learned a wide range of fundamentals around miniature painting. James was an excellent instructor, finding a great balance between technique demonstration, hands-on painting, and Q&A. This has significatly improved my painting in a short space of time. Highly recommend.

This was hands down one of the best two day painting courses. If you’ve struggled to understand layering and glazing this course is for you.

The Siege Studios EMC2 (Essentials…
The Siege Studios EMC2 (Essentials Master Class 2) is designed as an intermediate-level follow-up to their EMC 1 course. It focuses on pushing painters beyond the fundamentals, covering a variety of advanced techniques through practical demonstrations and one-on-one guidance. Once again James led the class and took us on a journey expanding on what he had shown us on the emc 1 class earlier in the year using the same concepts used to paint the power sword he went through how to apply it to cloaks and shoulders leaving us with a better understanding of the process. James as a teacher is great you can feel his passion for miniature painting and wanting everyone to be the best as they can be.
The atmosphere over the two days was great luckily most of the class was on the emc 1 course with me so we had already got to know each other. James also taught us how to paint plasma guns and leather. If your stuck and not progressing the emc 1 and 2 are well worth the money and proves you don’t need to learn fancy techniques or use expensive products, focusing on the basics and brush control can get you to a high standard. Hopefully there is going to be a emc 3 course or some sort of refresher to get to the next level. Siege Studios has a great Discord community as well where all the previous students and the Siege team support each to improve.

My third commission from Siege Studios was, like the previous ones, a masterpiece. The collaboration went extremely well; I was always able to get answers to any questions I had about my commission and received equally good suggestions for further improvements. The finished miniature was a masterpiece; I'm sure this won't be my last commission from Siege Studios.

Not worth the money - just watch free tutorials instead.
I only bought an hour as I was unsure how useful this session was going to be. I think it should have been structured differently as more than half of the meeting was watching someone just show me how to glaze (which I didn't ask for when I took out the class and was money poorly spent as I can watch videos on how to glaze with better video). I appreciate the instructor's comments and expertise but it felt like a classroom video/lecture that just happened to be a one on one video. In retrospect money would have been better spent getting WIP comments and hints then a classroom like lecture on how to paint which I guess is what I paid for? I'll take some of the blame as I should have asked more questions on how these were structured before buying the session. Also I guess I could have spoken up when I saw the direction the session was taking and put it back on track for what I wanted out of it instead of just letting the instructor continue on with what he was doing.

Our tuition sessions are designed to be student-led — you are in control of the content, structure, and pace throughout. To support this, we provide a pre-session form to help tailor the experience to your specific needs. In your submission, you mentioned difficulties with wet blending — particularly the time it was taking, a loss of contrast during the process, and unexpected results once dry.
With this in mind, the tutor carefully structured the session to address these concerns. Techniques such as glazing were introduced, along with guidance on friction, brush handling, colour selection, and paint behaviour — all chosen to help resolve the exact issues you highlighted. These were not general demonstrations but a focused response to your goals.
Throughout the session, you were encouraged to ask questions, offer feedback, or adjust the direction of the lesson. At no point did you express any dissatisfaction or request changes. When alternative methods were discussed, your feedback indicated that they required more time than you were willing to invest, as your priority was maintaining a batch-painting workflow.
While we absolutely respect individual preferences and painting goals, it's worth noting that developing technique often involves trying new approaches — even if they’re not immediately suited to speed painting. Our aim is always to provide tools and understanding that lead to more consistent and satisfying results over time.
We would also like to highlight that our online tuition has received consistently positive feedback from many students, who have found real value in the personalised guidance and interactive format. Unlike pre-recorded content on platforms like YouTube, our sessions offer direct engagement with a tutor who is responding to your specific challenges in real-time. You’re able to ask questions as they arise, request clarification or demonstrations, and steer the session to suit your own pace and goals — something that simply isn't possible with static video tutorials.
We appreciate your acknowledgment of your role in how the session unfolded, and should you decide to book again, we’d be happy to work with you to create a more tailored experience — ideally with clear goals and a collaborative approach to the techniques discussed.
Discord based Airbrush
A really excellent session. My tutor (Simon) ensured I received a thorough grounding in the basics, along with some myth busting and tips and tricks that worked for him. The exercises to practice and retain skills were particularly useful. I was concerned that discord would not lend itself to an airbrush tutorial, but the whole system worked very well indeed.
