Siege Studios master class
Although only attending the second Master Class, the sessions were great insight into painting at a commission/professional based level. The tutor for both days was great. Even gave me valuable critiques at the level I'm at in my miniature painting journey. I feel like I learnt a lot from those 2 days and where I require to improve as a miniature painter. It was great to have a face to face tutor rather than just relying on youtube tutorials. Also gave me tips on how to improve on my brush control and wasn't afraid to mention where to improve on what I'm currently capable of.
I cannot thank Siege and the tutor's wisdom and experience to put together these courses to help improve upon my journey going forward! Thank you Siege Studios for having this kind of course available!

Brilliant experience!
James took me through a lot in the 2 hours we had, he dived into helping me understand where I was as a painter and then from that helped me identify areas to improve and fundamentals to work on. I found it incredibly useful and have continue with the exercises he suggested. Fully recommend to anyone who is unsure of where they are, what’s next etc. the session gave me the confidence to try new things and I will definitely be arranging future follow ups!

On our contact form upon requesting a quote we do stress to complete information and select the right level options for your commission so that we can quote you as accurately as possible for your requirements. Unfortunately as no levels were filled in on the contact form you completed, we quoted at our minimum levels for the miniatures you asked for in the studios box art style.
Although only 32 miniatures, your quote included multiple characters which as per our website clearly stating we only paint to our Silver level display quality as a minimum. The remaining 30 high detail infantry were at our Bronze premium gaming level which is the lowest level for the box art style which we execute as a studio. We do have our Warrior Workshop level which is our tabletop alternative, had we been given the opportunity and request on the initial contact form for this level, we would have quoted you for this. As our contact form was part completed we made the best quote we could given the information provided and requested.
If you’re looking for a different price point, we completely understand, and there are many other options available in the market to suit various budgets and situations. However, as with any other premium brand or hand crafted artisan services in other industries outside of wargaming and miniatures, quality and cost go hand in hand and we do not compromise on quality as a company for a cheaper cost.
We wish you all the best in finding a service that aligns with your expectations and budget. Should you ever wish to explore premium painting again in the future, we’d be happy to assist you with a quote.

I expected more of the pdf
I expected more of the pdf, honestly any YouTube tutorial is at least as helpful.
But t does not cover all the miniature details to a highest quality standard, in my opinion.

Great course for all levels
This is my fourth course with Siege Studios, and they continue to provide excellent and essential tuition for miniature painting hobbyists. This basing course really helped build upon my existing knowledge and helped push me beyond what I was previously doing, which amounted to little more than putting on basing paste, drybrushing and putting on some grass tufts. This course had me building rubble strewn bases, a realistic looking woodland scene, and an industrial themed base with cheap and readily available materials. I really felt my confidence boosted as a result. The tutor was also great, very welcoming and provided excellent support.
I heartily recommend this course!

Great company!
I have had a really good experience with my purchase from Siege Studios. The customer service has been excellent and responses have been timely. I have attended a beginners masterclass court last year at Element Games in Stockport and it was such a good experience. I learnt loads and Simon (our instructor) was very helpful. Hoping to attend more classes and I would highly recommend this company.

Good but room for improvement
I really liked the following:
1) Course content (intro to airbrush, blending/glazing/tinting, decals, power weapons, weathering of metal, faces).
2) Instructor - friendly, excellent knowledge, communication and teaching skills.
3) Venue large space, great shop, clean toilets, friendly and helpful staff. They provide food and drink but I didn’t have any.
What I liked less:
1) Number of people on the course (25). I feel that even though the instructor tried hard by asking if there were any questions and getting around the class regularly, I had expected a smaller group setting with more one to one feedback. I also felt under pressure to not ask questions as there were other people asking questions (some helpful), plus in order to get through the content within the time. There was a Q&A at the end of each day after we had finished at 5 and 5.30, but I had to leave due to travel commitments.
3 of us had our seats facing away from the instructor when painting due to the numbers / lack of space. I felt we were on top of each other and there was a lack of space.
Also, after the instructor completed some painting and passed it around the class for people to see, it would take c. 10mins to get round the 25 so the people at the end would have 5-10 mins less painting time as they waited after each step.
Suggestion - fewer attendees / less passing round after one or two steps - maybe do 3 to 4 steps or get us painting at the same time as the instructor? A camera with close ups would help (see below).
2) inability to see the instructor’s technique when demonstrating. Suggestion - One or more TVs showing close ups of the instructor painting through a camera.
3) inability to hear the instructor well. Suggestion - Have the instructor use a microphone. Also do not have the session on at the same time as an event (there were around 100 other people in the same room). Maybe use screens to absorb some of the noise from other users of the room.
4) the amount of cost of equipment to bring, specifically :
* paints - even though I have quite a good collection for a beginner (around 20 paints) I had to buy a lot more (another 12?) , but I didn’t use them all.
*in the pre course material explain or highlight that Microset and microsol are for decals (as a beginner I didn’t know this and thought it was something to do with airbrushing so didn’t buy it)
* Good brushes and lamp - I needed these so didn’t mind Tbf
* travel hairdryer - essential for the course and probably will use it if not batch painting, but not essential post course.
* airbrush set - very good piece of kit that I will get one day but I only had about 30secs using the instructor’s. I think everyone should have access to one on the course supplied by the deliverer or just remove airbrushing from this course and have it as a separate course.
5) Venue:
The entrance stairwell needs a good clean and the main room needs better ventilation.
In conclusion, still good value for money and a good course but with room for a few fundamental improvements. I would rather pay a bit more money (£10?) to fund the course providing the technical equipment set up for the demos and / or a different venue.

Regarding class size, we carefully balance creating an engaging and focused learning environment with ensuring the course remains accessible and affordable. While larger classes naturally limit the extent of one-to-one instruction, our instructor made every effort to provide individual guidance throughout, as you acknowledged. For those seeking a more tailored experience, we do offer private tuition, which is available to book through our website.
On the subject of demonstrations, passing completed steps around the class is a key part of our teaching method, allowing attendees to see fine details up close and gain a better understanding of each technique. While the idea of a camera and TV setup is an interesting suggestion, implementing such equipment would significantly increase costs. The additional £10 you proposed would not sufficiently cover this, along with the other refinements you suggested, without substantially raising ticket prices—something we strive to avoid to keep the course accessible.
In terms of equipment, we provide a comprehensive materials list ahead of time so participants can prepare accordingly. The additional paints you mention were suggested, but alternative versions could have been used without issue. Our recommendations are based on the properties and performance of specific paints, as many attendees find them beneficial beyond the course itself.
The use of a hairdryer was highlighted during the course as an essential tool, not just for speeding up drying times but also for achieving optimal paint finishes. This remains our recommendation post-course. As for airbrushing, providing 20+ airbrush setups for students would not be logistically or financially viable. The course pack clearly states that while airbrushing is covered, those without a setup will have certain steps done for them, with a brief opportunity to try an instructor’s airbrush. While we’ll review our pre-course materials for clarity, airbrushing is an advanced technique best suited to those prepared to bring their own equipment.
Regarding the venue, we have been hosting courses at Element Games Stockport for over seven years due to its accessibility and suitability for our needs. While we do not manage the venue, we will pass on your comments about cleanliness and ventilation to their team.
It’s unfortunate that you had to leave before the scheduled Q&A sessions, as this is the best opportunity to raise any outstanding questions. Our instructors ensure that all queries are addressed throughout the course, and we make attendees aware of these dedicated sessions to help them plan ahead.
We always welcome constructive feedback and continually strive to enhance our courses. That said, some of the concerns you raised suggest that a smaller, more personalised learning experience—such as one-to-one tuition—may have been a better fit for your expectations. We encourage all potential attendees to carefully review course details before booking to ensure it aligns with their needs.

Beginners course, brilliant course
Hats off to Simon who ran the two day event. He explained each area of the course well, and took time to answer questions should you have any whilst he was walking the floor. I felt the airbrush morning was worth the money alone :)
The area allocated to the course did feel a little cramped, but everyone did seem to work round this. I think the course would benefit massively with a projector and camera set up so everyone would be able to see close up what is happening.

Had an amazing time over 2 days on the EMC1 course! Simon was an excellent teacher and too the time to explain everything clearly and demonstrate exactly what needed to be done.
